Pikatwig: Well… Digimon Adventure is getting a reboot. And, uh, it's certainly… having an interesting premise. Retelling the iconic story in the modern-day and with new looks for our heroes.

KKD: That can lead to one of two options… I'm hesitant yet optimistic based on what I'm seeing. Regardless… the designs look… ok?

Pikatwig: I'll admit that I like the colors on Kari's new outfit.

KKD: Overalls don't work that well for me. Fav… hard to say. The worst of the bunch goes to Matt. I mean, purple dude? Really?

Pikatwig: Yeah, that color does not suit Matt's design.

Muk: Agreed. Just… that does not fit him at all. He's starting to look like Gary now.

KKD: I guess my favorite would be Tai… mainly because he took the least amount of changes to the original design.

Muk: Would have to say Sora is my favorite. I honestly like the new shirt, and the little butterfly logo is a neat touch.

KKD: That is a nice touch. Rest in peace, Koji Wada.

Pikatwig: Huh? *looks again* Oh wow, I didn't see that was a butterfly before you pointed it out. Cute.

Muk: Yep, honestly the main reason why I like her design.

Pikatwig: Alrighty. Oh, and for us Taiora shippers, you'll be happy to know that Tai and Sora are longtime friends in the reboot, while Sora has never met Matt prior to the Digital World in the reboot.

KKD: YES! YES! I'm hardcore Taiora shipper, so this makes things more promising this time around. HOWEVER! ...if they pull the stupid ending they did in Adventure 02, I'm not bothering to review the reboot. ...at all. Sure, I'm making exceptions to Tri for other reasons, but if the reboot goes 02 ending, you can say farewell, Adventure Reboot review.

Muk: I swear if they go there, it's all ruined. They have a chance to fix what I consider a huge mistake in the original, and they better take it!

Pikatwig: Blame the original writer of Adventure. He said that the ship "doesn't exist" and was "too clichéd" to have the main male and main female hook up.

Muk: Dumbest. Explanation. Ever.

KKD: Well if that's the case, you can at least INFORM YOUR AUDIENCE INSTEAD OF DROPPING THAT JUNK OUT OF NOWHERE! Sure, the original didn't make it clear in dialogue, but everyone thought they'd get together. We don't need you pulling any Game of Thrones before Game of Thrones became a thing!

Pikatwig: Not even the writers were told about that. The head writer of Our War Games was as shocked as the rest of us when that finale aired.

KKD: YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN?! If you really want to avoid the cliché, INFORM EVERYONE THAT THAT IS THE CASE!

*Hinata then gave a whack to the three with a broom*

KKD: Hey! What was that for?!

Hinata: You're off the point.

Pikatwig: Right. Anyway, with the idea of a reboot coming, I thought it would be fun to try our own hand at retelling Adventure's story.

KKD: Will we have Taiora?

Pikatwig: Yes.

KKD: I'm already on board with this one!

Muk: Count me in too.

Pikatwig: Alrighty. And allow me to give you, the audience, a fair warning about this… expect the unexpected with this fic. We may retell some of Adventure, but things will be different from what you remember.

KKD: We try and mix things up a lot, but you'll need to figure it out along with our leads… likely.

Muk: It's no fun if we just straight up tell you everything. Oh no, you have to read into the hints we plant down.

Pikatwig: With that out of the way, let's go ahead and get started.

It was a calm, sunny, summer afternoon in Japan in the year 2018. The focus went down to a camp alongside a beach where a group of kids were in the middle of a game of volleyball.

"This was going to be a summer unlike any we had before… in more ways than one as we were to find out. We were just having a fun time at our summer camp like any other kids our age…" a boy's voice narrated.

The focus then went to a young boy with spiky brown hair, wearing a set of blue goggles, along with a blue shirt, brown shorts with orange highlights, and white and black sneakers. He juggled the volleyball in the air for a bit before he kicked it like a soccer ball.

"Oh, by the way. That's me, Yagami Taichi. Though most just call me Tai," the boy continued narrating.

The camera then focused on a girl with a blue cap over her head of orange-red hair, a yellow top with a pink butterfly on it, red pants, and grey and red shoes, "Tai, why'd you kick it?! That's not how you play volleyball!"

"Sorry, force of habit," Tai apologized.

"That's my friend, Takenouchi Sora, one of my friends since I was really young. She's lived next to me for many years now and we went to the same school together for as long as I could remember."

The scene focused on a boy with reddish brown hair looking something up on his laptop, with a phone recording data, wearing an orange shirt, green shorts, and purple and black shoes with a thunderbolt logo on them.

"As to be expected of you, Tai. Always one to be in the heat of the moment," the boy noted.

"Izzy! Don't say stuff like that!" Tai shouted back.

"This tech geek is Izumi Koushiro, aka Izzy, another friend of mine for as long as I can remember. He's almost always on his tech stuff. Has been that way for as long as I've known him," Tai narrated.

"Honestly, Tai, try to stay focused on what's happening," another boy said as the focus was now on a boy with spiky blond hair the same age as Tai wearing a green sleeveless shirt and gloves, blue jeans, and brown shoes while picking up the kicked volleyball and flinging it back over to him, "Try not to kick it this time, goggle boy…"

"Ishida Yamato is always a bit of a pain. I'm not completely sure why he's in my circle of friends, but Matt was seen as cool by some and annoying by others. ...such as yours truly. Eh, at the end of the day, he tends to have my back, so I can't complain too much."

Meanwhile, back over at the cabin, there were a handful of others at the door.

"You're going to have to come out of that building at some point, Mei!" a boy complained, this one having blue hair and wearing a pale blue buttoned shirt with a beige vest, brown pants, and blue knee-high socks followed by a pair of red and white shoes, and a pair of large black glasses.

"No way! I'm never comin' out! Nobody likes me!" a girl shouted, the girl having a white top, black colored vest, a blue skirt, black leggings that stopped just at her feet, and was wearing a pair of black sandals that had white straps and a small moon shaped accessory on it.

"That's Kido Joe and his younger cousin, Mochizuki Meiko. Joe's a little paranoid about everything, but is responsible with others since he's one of the oldest ones here, while Mei tends to be the most timid of us and hardly comes out of the cabin. I've spoken with her a little and I can't tell if she's afraid of the outside world or what. Also, because of where she lived, Mei has a bit of a southern accent. Not too thick, but it is there."

"Oh dear… why'd I come here without my sunscreen? It's boiling…" another girl, this one having a kind of pale pink shade of hair, a red dress with a cowgirl look at the edges, a pink sunhat, and white and brown boots.

"That's Tachikawa Mimi, the fashionista of the group and regular whiner about… a lot of things. I bet you could guess her favorite color on the first try. Although, she is pretty good with kids, so you can depend on her for that…" Tai mentioned.

"Mimi-chan!" a voice called as a young boy with dirty blond hair wearing a green hat that had a gold 'TK' on the edge of it and a pale green sweater, brown shorts, and teal and white sneakers, ran over to Mimi with a smile.

"Oh! TK-chan," Mimi beamed, lowering down to the younger boy's eye-level, "Are you alright? You look a little pale right now…"

"I'm fine," he assured her, "I just wanted to let you know where me and Kari were."

"See what I mean? Oh, the kid there is Takaishi Takeru, but he prefers TK. Believe it or not, he's Matt's little brother, and he's the one who came up with all of our short nicknames. He's a nice kid, but I keep an eye on him because he tends to get a bit close to my little sister…"

As if on cue, a young girl near T.K's age joined him. This girl having brown hair, and wore a pale yellow dress with magenta leggings, orange socks, and yellow and white sneakers.

"Mimi-chan? Should I wear the scarf or the whistle?" the young girl asked, holding up a pink scarf and a small whistle.

"Hmm… I'd say try both," Mimi suggested

"Speaking of, that girl there is my little sister, Hikari. She's a nice kid at heart, but she has a bit of an odd obsession with monsters, the supernatural, mythology, aliens, that kind of stuff. On a side note, my parents have banned Kari from ever watching monster movies. Again, sweet kid, but a little too crazed about monsters," Tai explained

Amidst all the chaos with the kids, another spiky brown haired by was in the midst of studying some plant life while doing a few push-ups, having on what looked to be a red vest, a white shirt with silver highlights, brown pants, and a pair of grey and purple shoes with silver straps.

"Oh, and this is Akiyama Ryo. Second oldest of the bunch, but he's weird, always talking about survival and research for some odd reason. He has a bad habit of feeding into Kari's overactive imagination and monster obsession, so my parents have told me to keep him away from her while we're here."

"Hey, Ryo-kun," Kari called out as she approached; now wearing both the pink scarf and whistle, "What were you reading about earlier today?"

"Oh, hi Kari-chan," Ryo greeted, stopping his push-ups to turn his attention to her, "I was just looking at my books about some mythological monsters. Pretty neat stuff."

"Wow~. What did it show this time? Massive youkai that could control the elements? The Lochness Monster? Bigfoot? Some kind of aliens? Something new completely?!" Kari gleefully asked, jumping up and down in her excitement.

"Always eager for this kind of stuff," Ryo smiled, "I'll happily tell you about it, Kari."

"Maybe another time, Ryo," Tai said as he walked over to them, "C'mon, Kari, we don't have time for this."

"Nii-san~! I wanna hear about the cool creatures that he read about~!" Kari whined, "They're so cool and interesting!"

"Kari, you know our parents don't want you getting into that stuff again. It's not good for you," Tai sternly told his younger sister.

"Lighten up a little, Taichi. We're on vacation. What your parents don't know can't hurt Kari," Ryo responded in a nearly dismissive tone, "Besides, it's nothing that can seriously hurt her."

Tai just glared at Ryo, not happy that he was basically discarding the concern he was showing, "I'm younger than you and I know better right now."

An annoyed Kari then walked off towards the cabin without another word to either of them. Before she went inside, she turned towards Tai and stuck her tongue out at him before slamming the door.

"Well, mission accomplished, Taichi. You kept your sister from having any fun," Ryo remarked in an annoyed tone.

"She has been obsessed with monsters for as long as she could talk and my parents want it to stop before it becomes even more unhealthy for her," Tai reminded him, "And you aren't helping matters, Ryo. You're only making things worse."

"At that time, my only concern was trying to keep Kari out of trouble and then enjoy my summer break as much as I could. Little did I know that those two things would be some of the farthest concerns I would have going forward…" Tai narrated.

It was a bit later and Tai and Sora were playing soccer against some other kids at the camp and both had gotten a score of 25 to zero against the other kids. Tai kicked the ball around a few times before passing it to Sora, who scored the winning goal.

Meanwhile, Kari and the others were watching the game being played. Kari had a bit of a grumpy look on her face, which was soon noticed by Mimi and Joe.

"Everything ok, Kari?" Joe asked.

"Nii-san's being a huge jerk," Kari explained, "He won't let Ryo talk to me about cool monsters."

"...what is it with your obsession with monsters anyway?" Mimi inquired.

"I remember some orange dinosaur fighting this giant green bird years ago in Hikarigaoka where we used to live… but Nii-san thinks it's nothing but a dream or some movie I saw when I was younger," Kari explained, "I know it was real. I just know it!"

Joe and Mimi just stared at the younger girl with a hint of concern, both being unsure of what to make of what she had just told them.

"Well… there are far worse things she could be obsessed with…" Mimi stated in a very simple tone.

"True…" Joe muttered.

Tai and Sora then approached the group, both smiling after the game, although Tai's grin was the biggest.

"26 to nothing! We smoke 'em!" Tai cheered.

"Yea! Nice one, Tai," Sora smiled.

"Hey, you made the winning goal, Sora. You were really impressive," Tai told her.

Sora just smiled some more, a very faint blush forming on her face, before they heard what sounded like thunder. Everybody turned to see storm clouds had formed in the sky and it was looking like it would start to rain.

"Everybody, back to the cabins!" an adult shouted out, "We'll wait out this storm and then see what happens."

"Okay, Damon-san," Tai responded.

"Storm clouds… but… nothing indicated a storm system was going to form…" Izzy remarked, typing away at a tablet, checking all weather apps before and after while making sure his connection was stable.

"Sounds like Raiden-sama is getting angry with his followers," Kari remarked without thinking.

"Kari, enough of that monster talk, please?!" Tai exclaimed annoyingly.

"Fine, but if you get blasted by thunder and/or lightning, don't say I didn't warn you," Kari bluntly told her brother before walking away.

"...does that girl not fear anything?" Matt questioned.

"I wonder sometimes… I honestly do…" Tai admitted.

"Tai, she's just a kid… lighten up a little," Mimi told Tai, "It's normal for them to think about things like that."

The power in the cabin began to flicker a little bit, causing Meiko to go running towards her cousin in a panic.

"J-Joe… p-p-please tell me when the storm's over. It's scary," Meiko whispered, clinging onto her cousin in fear.

"...there, there…" Joe muttered, "Everything's gonna be alright."

Ryo, meanwhile, was simply reading a survival book about what to do in the event of a power outage. He just nodded as he read the book before seeing the scared TK approach him.

"Aki, what are we gonna do if we lose power?" TK asked in a concerned tone.

"It's Ryo, first off, Takeru. Secondly, we'll need to ensure we have protection from the storm like our current shelter, a source of heat, like a fire, and some water that is safe to drink," Ryo explained.

"...it's TK…"

Ryo didn't pay that any mind as he walked over to the others, "Alright, listen up, everyone. I already have everything planned in case the power goes out. You all have your roles, so just listen closely as I explain them."

He then noticed Sora was standing by the window, "Hey, Sora. Are you listening?"

"Uh… guys…?" Sora called out to the others, the thunder and lightning having ceased, "You're gonna wanna look outside…"

Everybody gathered by the window and saw that instead of raining… it was snowing. This confused everybody as they stepped out into the cold white outside area.

"...no way…" Tai gawked.

"This is just crazy. Never expected it to snow at the beach," Sora added.

"That's not possible!" Joe shouted, "It's the middle of July! It shouldn't be cold enough for snow!

"Wow~! That's pretty!" Mimi smiled as she walked out with the younger kids in tow, "Look at it!"

"It's so cool!" TK shouted as he jumped into a pile.

"Yay, snow!" Kari exclaimed as she jumped in with TK.

"TK, Kari, you'll catch a cold going out like that," Matt shouted as he ran after them. He grabbed them by the collar to stop them from getting in more snow, much to their disappointment.

"Hands off my sister, Matt!" Tai shouted as he ran outside.

Meiko meekly poked out of the door frame, "...I've… never seen snow before… so…"

She then slowly walked outside and took a clump of snow into her hand. She had an amazed look at the snow as she rolled it around in her hands, "It's so pretty."

"...well… good thing I have a section on what to do if it suddenly snows," Ryo muttered, walking out while reading his book.

"Darn it. Looks like the snow is having an effect on my equipment somehow..." Izzy groaned, deciding to follow the others out as well.

"Meiko, be careful out there," Joe shouted as he headed out.

Sora stepped out with a bit of a confident air around her, "Well, this just gives me a chance to show off my skills with snowballs…"

Tai and Izzy both paled at the thought, both of them getting flashbacks of the last time they had a snowball fight. It did not go well for the both of them. They only stepped back as Sora grabbed some snow.

"Make way for the snowball fighting queen," Sora smirked as she ran out and threw a snowball at Joe and then Matt.

"What was that for?!" Matt shouted.

"You need to stay out of her way, Matt. She gets crazy with snowballs!" Izzy called out.

"Yeah I do!" Sora shamelessly admitted, grabbing snowballs with both hands, "As crazy as Kari gets with monsters!"

This caused most of the others to pale with fear as they all realized just how much of a threat Sora was now. Some of them didn't have the time to get away as they got pelted by snowballs while others ducked behind some of the snow piles and began making their own snowballs to throw back.

Ryo just sighed at the sight unfolding before him, deciding instead to walk away from the fight and look over his book before he heard the screams of the others from the snowball fight. He just kept his back turned and read over the section of what to do if it suddenly snowed.

"...got any plans?" Izzy asked.

"About the snow, certainly. About Sora…?" Ryo began to speak, turning to see Sora laughing maniacally as she pelted Matt with snowballs, "...I'm just gonna let her get that out of her system."

"As somebody who values their safety should do…" Tai whispered to him.

The kids continued to play for a while before Kari looked up into the sky.

"Everybody, look!" she called out, making everyone look to see what appeared to be a daytime aurora.

"...is that the northern lights?" Meiko questioned.

"That's impossible. It can't be the aurora borealis. You can only see that at night and in much colder climates," Izzy pointed out, "We're much too far south."

"It's pretty…" TK gawked, taking a camera out of his pocket and snapping a picture of it, "What is it?"

"The aurora borealis…" Izzy stated.

"No, what is that supposed to be?" TK clarified.

"Oh. The short of it, they're special lights that appear only when the Earth and the sky are both in sync with each other."

"Did we all fall asleep and are having one shared dream?" Meiko suggested.

"Doubt it. If we were sharing a dream with Kari, then there'd be at least half a dozen monsters roaming around," Tai stated in a somewhat annoyed tone.

"He's not wrong," Kari remarked.

Ryo continued to look at his book, "Alright… I got nothing on what to do about the light show above us. All the book says about it relates to where it actually is supposed to be. This is all just too weird…"

"I say we go back inside to avoid catching a cold," Joe advised.

"And get away from the snowball menace…" Matt added on.

"Snowball queen, thank you very much," Sora reminded with a bit of a glare.

"Is she always like this with snow?" Mimi inquired.

"You have no idea," both Tai and Izzy answered in unison.

However, a light soon seemed to break through the clouds and seemed to shine about the ten of them.

"Uh… does everyone see THAT?" Tai checked.

"Yeah," the others all responded.

Tai then stood defensively in front of Kari, Matt soon doing the same with TK, and they all kept their eyes at the sky. Suddenly, ten lights shot down from the clouds and landed in front of the group, knocking them all down from the impact.

"Everyone! Are you alright? Is anybody injured?" Sora checked.

"I'm alright," Tai assured her.

"All good here," Matt added.

"Yeah, somehow…" Joe responded, proceeding to help Meiko out, "You good?"

"I'm scared… but I'm uninjured…" Meiko stated.

"Are you both ok?" Mimi asked the younger ones.

"I'm alright, I promise," TK told her.

"What was that…?" Kari wondered as Izzy and Ryo approached the holes made by the light.

"Not sure," Izzy muttered before lights floated up from each of the ten holes by the kids as they all stared, "What is this…?"

Tai looked at the light before him and grabbed it. It then faded as he opened his hand to see a small device in a powder blue with one antenna, a small square screen, and three buttons with two on the left and one on the right.

The others then followed suit, each grabbing their own. They all looked the exact same as the one Tai had, each one of them taking a moment to look it over.

"...meteorites?" Izzy guessed.

"Doubt it, Izzy," Ryo stated, "I've seen meteorites before…"

"Wow~..." Kari gawked, "We just found some alien technology!"

All Tai could do was sigh at his younger sister.

"I hate to say it, but Kari's got a bit of a point. What else could this be?" Sora stated.

"A strange apparatus developed by the government, perhaps?" Izzy guessed.

Tai just stared at the device in his hand without saying much of anything, something about the small device starting to ring a very faint bell in his mind, yet he didn't have any time to react as it suddenly started to glow brightly.

"Is this supposed to happen?" Matt asked.

"How are any of us supposed to know that?!" Ryo shouted back, "Even I don't know what this is!"

Suddenly, they looked up to see a tidal wave form in front of them. None of them were able to move at all from their spot as the wave swept them up and they all screamed as they disappeared...

Bouken 01: The Adventure Begins...

"Tai~? Tai~. Wake up…" a voice called out to Tai.

"Ugh… just a bit longer…" he groaned, slowly opening his eyes, before seeing something off.

It was a pink blob about the size of his head that had no nose, long ears, and two eyes with a very large mouth with spikey teeth. Tai stared at it for a moment longer before he flung it off of him and backed away in fear.

"Wh-wh-WHAT THE HECK?!" Tai shouted as the blob bounced gleefully.

"Yay, you're awake, you're awake, you're awake!" the blob cheered.

"...that is the last time that I eat camp food…" Tai muttered.

"Tai! I'm so happy that you finally made it!" the blob cheered as it bounced into Tai's hands, "I'm your friend, I'm your friend!"

"...so… you're not going to hurt me…?" Tai asked.

"Why would I want to do that at all? We're partners, after all!"

"P-Partners? Uh… ok… uh… what are you?" Tai inquired.

"I'm Koromon!"

"...Koromon… and we're partners…" Tai muttered.

"That's right," Koromon responded with a smile.

Tai could only stare at the blob that was in his hands for a moment before he started to look around the area. He saw that it was a lot more tropical than what he saw back at the campsite, "Where am I? And… how did you know my name?"

"Tai!" he heard a familiar voice call out, turning to see-

"Oh! Izzy! You're here, too?" Tai smiled before he noticed something, "Wait… you have one too?!"

"It hasn't stopped following me since I woke up," Izzy explained.

Near Izzy was a small pink blob with arms, shuffling around on a stump of sorts, a small mouth, and two red eyes

"Hello there, it's nice to meet you," the blob greeted.

"Hey, Tai, hey, Tai, hold up your Digivice in front of it!" Koromon told him.

"Digi-what?" Tai blinked.

"I think he may be talking about the blue device we found at the camp…" Izzy guessed.

Tai gave a small shrug of his shoulders and held the device up in the other blob's direction, the device suddenly lighting up and revealing the creature's name.

"Motimon?" Tai questioned, seeing the description, "Uh… this stuff is going a bit over my head right now…"

Izzy then looked over Tai's Digivice to see that the description of Motimon was limited, but it had some details that gave it a level, some attack descriptions, and other minor details.

"I'm starting to believe that these creatures aren't a hallucination…" Izzy admitted.

"...which would mean Kari was right about there being other life forms out there…" Tai stated before he heavily exhaled, "I'm never gonna hear the end of it from her."

"Which would only happen after we find her…" Izzy stated simply, "Which would mean we need to explore whatever this place is…"

"You're on File Island right now," Motimon informed.

"Yea yea! File Island is this big place where we live," Koromon added, Tai looking around, yet the vantage he had was obscured by all of the plant life.

"I need to get a better look around. Good thing Mimi gave me the telescope her folks sent with her," Tai replied, climbing up to a higher part of a tree, pulling out said telescope to get a good look, "Hmm… let's see… lots of forests and a mountain? Wait, how can that be? We were by the beach before and nowhere near any mountains!"

Koromon then bounced up to Tai's side, "Hey, Tai, whatcha looking at?"

"The area…" Tai told him simply.

"Be sure to watch out for birds," Koromon warned him, "I hate birds…"

"...your tone tells me there's a long story there…" Tai responded without looking at the blob.

He continued looking before spotting a red figure in the distance. Whatever the figure was, it was clearly searching for something and looking pretty angry as it looked around.

"Wow. That thing looks pretty nasty," he noticed as the red figure started flying towards him, revealing more bug-like features, "A... kuwagata (Stag Beetle)? And it's getting closer?"

Tai put down the telescope and gasped as he saw it getting a lot closer. Koromon used the feelers on his head to move Tai out of the stag beetle's way before it could attack him.

"Motimon, Kuwagamon's back!" Koromon shouted.

"Oh no!" Motimon panicked, "We need to get out of here now!"

Tai managed to scan the large beetle and saw its data read that it was at a higher level than both Koromon and Motimon, although he didn't understand what it meant completely.

"We need to run, come on!" Koromon shouted, "Our leader couldn't beat it, so it's really really powerful!"

"Who is your leader?" Izzy asked.

"Is now really the time to be bringing that up, Izzy! C'mon!" Tai shouted as the group made a run for it.

Kuwagamon growled as it chased after the group of four, toppling down tree after tree along its path.

"Why did your leader pick a fight with this guy?!" Izzy demanded to know.

"She was trying to protect us," Motimon explained.

"It went badly," Koromon added.

"Quick! Inside this tree!" Motimon shouted, ducking into a rather solid looking tree like it was fluid.

"Oh what new spawn of madness is this…?" Izzy muttered.

Tai then wordlessly dragged both him and Koromon into the tree as well. The four remained silent as Kuwagamon searched the area a bit, keeping down until the area fell silent after ten minutes had passed, the quartet keeping the silence as if expecting the beetle to return. After another minute or so…

"Guys, it's safe to come out," a girl's voice called out.

The boys gasped before they poked their heads out to see…

"Sora!" they gasped.

"It's fine. That big bug's gone," Sora assured.

Tai then walked over and briefly hugged her. Sora was a bit taken aback by this, but Tai stopped before she could say anything at what he did. Koromon, Motimon, and Izzy all walked out and Tai chuckled just a bit out of nervousness.

"So… you guys have those things too?" Sora asked upon noticing Koromon and Motimon.

"Wait… you do too?"

"Yeah," Sora nodded as she motioned for someone to walk over.

The thing in question was another pink creature, this one looking like a walking plant bulb with a blue flower on its head, and blue eyes.

"I am enchanted to meet you, friends of Sora. Welcome," the bulb greeted as the boys scanned the feminine sounding creature to find it was called Yokomon.

"Well… this one is kind of… cute," Tai remarked with a bit of an uncertain look on his face.

"Aw, thank you," Yokomon told Tai before turning over to Sora, "He's nice, isn't he?"

"Y-Yea, well… I guess…" Sora responded with a bit of uncertainty in her tone.

"So… we have a head, a blob, and a plant that can all walk and talk…" Izzy commented.

"And that giant beetle that nearly got us," Tai added, "What's next?"

The group then heard a voice gasp and then giggle in amazement nearby them.

"I know who that is already…" Tai muttered as he walked towards the voice, "Hi Kari."

"Tai, Tai, Tai, look!" Kari gawked, holding up what looked to be a small yellow cat looking blob with pink eyes and purple stripes along a tail, "I found this little monster following me. I told you monsters were real, Nii-san! I knew it the whole time!"

"I had a feeling you'd react like that…" Tai stated before sighing heavily, Izzy scanning this one to get its name of Nyaromon.

"She's so cute!" Kari beamed before she noticed Koromon, Motimon, and Yokomon, "There's more of them! They all look so cute!"

Sora nervously giggled at Kari's excitement, not sure how to take this sight.

"She seems excited," Koromon remarked.

"You have no idea…" Tai stated with a sigh as a white creature on four legs with black eyes, two long feelers like Koromon's, and a seemingly tiny mouth ran over, "ANOTHER one?!"

"Hiya," the white blob greeted before yawning, showing its many many spikey teeth.

Tai, Sora, and Izzy all nervously backed away from the blob.

"That's so cool!" Kari gawked, excited to see the little blob on legs.

"Over here, Takeru~!" the white blob the kids learned was called Tokomon called out as TK came running.

"It's TK…" he reminded.

"Yours is so cool!" Kari gawked before showing off Nyaromon, "Look at mine! She's so cute, right?"

"Salamon, are you ok?" Tokomon asked.

"I'm alright, Tokomon. Kuwagamon was a tougher foe than I thought and forced me back into this form…" Nyaromon explained, "And I'm called Nyaromon while I'm like this…"

"Oh, sorry. I've just… never seen you like this before," Tokomon apologized.

"I'm glad to see you're alright," Koromon told Nyaromon before turning to Tai and the others, "This is our leader."

"...this cat thing?" Tai blinked.

"I found their leader?" Kari inquired in shock, "Does that also make me a leader?"

"I doubt that highly…" Matt's voice added as he walked over.

"You got one, too, Matt?" Tai checked.

"Yea. T.K.'s been insisting on the white one…" Matt remarked.

"NO! The furry one with the horn under your arm!"

"Oh. This guy?" Matt realized as he looked to the figure in question.

"H-Hello," the creature greeted nervously.

"The Digivice says this one's called Tsunomon," Izzy noted.

"Digivice?" Matt questioned.

"This thing," Tai informed, showing the device they had all grabbed back at the camp.

Matt simply nodded as he set Tsunomon down so he could talk to the others before they heard some rustling nearby them.

"Be careful, we don't know what that is," Nyaromon advised.

The others all nodded… only for Kari to walk over to the source of the noise.

"Kari!" Tai shouted.

"Hiya," Kari greeted the source of the noise.

"Oh, hey Kari," Ryo's voice responded.

"Oh, it's just Ryo," Matt remarked.

"I don't know if I'd rather have had it been one of those monsters…" Tai muttered, only to get lightly smacked by Sora, "Hey!"

"Be nice, Tai," she reprimanded.

Ryo walked out holding a small pointy purple creature with golden yellow designs all over, and fins coming out of its sides.

"Hey guys. What'd I miss?" Ryo asked.

"Us running from another strange creature…" Izzy informed Ryo.

"What kind of creature?" Kari asked in excitement.

Izzy quickly covered up his mouth as he realized that saying that out loud in front of Kari was a bad idea. Tai's glare at Izzy made this point clear before he turned to Ryo with a look that simply asked him to distract Kari.

"Uh… hey, Kari. Why don't I introduce you to my little buddy here?" Ryo suggested, showing his partner off, "His name's Hopmon."

"He's so cute~!" Kari beamed, scooping Hopmon into her arms, "Look at his little fins!"

"Hehe, I like this girl," Hopmon said, enjoying the attention he was receiving from Kari.

"Thanks…" Tai whispered to Ryo.

"This is getting a little crazy," Sora sighed.

"That makes seven of us now, right?" TK asked.

"Yeah," Sora nodded, "We're just missing Mei, Mimi, and-"

They suddenly heard a loud panicked screaming as Joe came running through the trees followed by a floating gray creature with two flippers, a tuft of orange on its head, and large blue eyes.

"JOE?! Tai gawked as the eldest of the group ran past them.

"Tai! Ryo! Help! Stop this crazy beast! I-It-It won't leave me alone!" Joe shouted in fear.

"...I'd sooner expect a reaction like that out of Mei, not him…" Matt muttered, earning himself a light smack from Sora, "Shutting up."

"C'mon, Joe. Don't be so uptight. Name's Bukamon, nice to meet you," the small fellow, Bukamon, greeted.

"They're all so cute~!" Kari gushed, "I hope I'm not dreaming right now, cause I don't wanna wake up!"

"Wait… all?!" Joe shouted before seeing the other creatures and then hiding behind Ryo, "WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF THESE THINGS?!"

"I don't know, but chances are that both Mimi and Meiko have one too if they're here with us," Ryo figured.

"Let's go find them then!" Kari cheered before she ran off.

"Kari, get back here!" Tai shouted as he followed after her.

The group followed the young girl, attempting to keep her from doing something even more crazy than what had been happening. However, they heard a whimper, looking to see Meiko in a clearing and curled up like a ball in what looked to be panic. Nearby her was a tear-drop shaped creature in a pale blue color, Mimi, and a four legged creature with leaves sprouting from its head.

"Come on, Mei-chan. Everything's gonna be ok," Mimi assured, placing a comforting hand on Meiko's shoulder.

"Yeah, we're not going to hurt you," the pale blue creature assured her in a comforting tone.

"Yeah, we're your friends," the plant creature added.

"They're so cute~!" Kari cheered as she ran over and tackle-hugged both of the creatures with the other girls.

"Kari-chan?" Mimi blinked before she realized Kari was really there, "Now's not the best time to be saying things like that… even if I agree they are cute…"

"Meiko!" Joe shouted.

"Joe?" Meiko asked before looking up and seeing her cousin, "Joe!"

She immediately rushed over to him and trapped him in a tight, scared hug.

"It's ok. I'm here, Mei," Joe comforted.

"Well… that's all of us," Tai muttered.

Kari continued to cuddle the two other creatures with a large, beaming, smile wider than anything ever.

"Can you let us go, please?" the leaf-headed one asked, the Digivices naming her Tanemon.

"Can't… breathe," the teardrop named Moonmon whimpered.

"Kari… they need to breathe…" TK told her in a bit of a worried tone.

"Ok…" Kari sighed as she put the two down, "Sorry. If this is a dream, I don't want to wake up, but if it isn't, then please give me a sign that it isn't!"

Tai then walked over and, against his better judgement, lightly pinched his younger sister. She winced in response, but looked around and beamed with a smile wider than ever before.

"Okay… what are you all?" Matt inquired.

"Oh, you don't know?" Koromon realized before he and the other nine creatures all lined up.

"We're Digimon. Digital Monsters!" the ten creatures declared in unison.

After Meiko had a moment to calm down, the group lined up to exchange introductions, each of the Digimon giving an introduction first despite some knowing the names through their Digivices.

"Nice to meet you all. My name's Tai, and these are my friends," Tai started as he listed off everyone one by one, "This is Sora and she's in the same grade and class as me."

"It's nice to meet all of you," Sora greeted.

"This is our other friend, Izzy, a bit of a tech geek and a year younger than me and Sora," Tai introduced.

"Does this island have internet access?" Izzy questioned.

"We'll figure that out later, Izzy. The dude with the green sweater is Matt, and he's our quote-on-quote, 'cool one'."

"No autographs, please," Matt joked.

"The tall kid with the glasses is Joe, and he's the oldest one out of all of us here," Tai continued.

"I'd offer to shake hands, but… none of you have any…" Joe remarked.

"The girl behind him is his younger cousin Meiko, who's the same age as me, Matt, and Sora," Tai introduced.

"H-H-Hello," Meiko greeted nervously.

"The girl with the sunhat is Mimi. Great singer, good with kids, but a little spoiled…" Tai added on.

"It's nice to meet you all a- what do you mean by spoiled?!" Mimi exclaimed with a glare towards Tai.

"Over here is Ryo, the second oldest, and is prepared for almost any situation," Tai moved on.

"Well… this will be an interesting experience, documenting something never seen before by human eyes," Ryo admitted.

"Next are the younger ones. This is TK, Matt's brother and a nice kid overall." Tai continued

"It's nice to meet all of you," TK greeted politely.

"And, finally, is my younger sister Kari. If you couldn't already tell, she's kind of a fan of creatures like yourselves…" Tai concluded.

"Do you guys have anything here like a royal family or somebody that's in charge? Do you have any powers, what's your history, tell me everything about you!" Kari asked in a very cheerful tone.

"...she scares me…" Moonmon whispered.

"I like her," Hopmon smiled.

"There now. Is that everyone?" Tai checked.

"Yeah, that's all of us," Ryo told him, "Our next order of business should be finding a way to any kind of civilization. Anything to make sure we can survive. Is there a leader amongst you ten or…?"

"That would be me," Nyaromon informed.

"Excellent. Where's the nearest town, city, or village?" Ryo inquired.

"I have no idea. We've never really traveled outside of this region," Nyaromon admitted.

"Oh, that's just great," Ryo sighed as Koromon hopped to the front of the group.

"In our defense, there are some really tough and dangerous Digimon that block us from traveling…" Koromon informed, "Like Kuwagamon."

"What's that?" Kari asked, a small gleam appearing in her eyes.

All Tai could do was bury his face into his palms at the sight of Kari going monster crazy yet again.

"Oh… should I have not said that?" Koromon asked.

"Yea…" Tai sighed before they all heard a loud roar, "...you really should not have said that!"

"There he comes again!" Yokomon gasped.

Kuwagamon let out another loud roar as it flew towards the group.

"We need to get out of here, now!" Nyaromon told everyone.

"Do we have to?" Kari asked.

"YES!" all ten Digimon shouted.

"Ok," Kari sighed.

The group all ran through the trees, ducking and weaving through the foliage before they ended up at a cliff.

"Just peachy…" Tai sighed.

"We're in a lot of trouble…" Izzy muttered.

Kuwagamon let out a roar as it managed to reach the group before the ten Digimon all stood in the path of the larger one.

"Let's show him our Digitude!" Koromon shouted.

"Charge!" Nyaromon shouted out.

All ten of them leapt towards the giant Digimon, with half of them physically ramming into it and the others blowing bubbles at it. However, they did nothing to Kuwagamon as it simply swatted them all away. The ten all simply charged in again to keep up the attack.

"What are you all doing?" Tai shouted.

"Keeping you safe!" Koromon shouted back, "BUBBLE!"

He launched a massive burst of pink bubbles at the large beetle, but they just popped and it seemed to give an annoyed glare at the group in spite of not having any visible eyes.

"No effect!" Yokomon pointed out.

"Keep trying! We need to keep them all safe!" Hopmon declared to the others.

The Digimon all made various attempts to strike the bug down from bubbles, to tackling, and even headbutting it.

"You guys…" Tai whispered.

"Keep it up! Don't be scared!" Kari shouted towards the ten, leaving the other kids shocked by her proclamation.

"Don't give up!" Ryo shouted out.

"You guys got this!" Matt added on.

"We're counting on you!" Mimi declared.

"You can do this!" Izzy exclaimed.

"Don't stop trying!" TK shouted.

"Be careful!" Mei pleaded.

"You little guys… give it your best shot!" Joe pleaded.

"Do your best!" Sora exclaimed.

"Go get that giant bug!" Tai shouted as loudly as he could.

Suddenly, what sounded like a sharp whistling pierced through the air as ten pillars of rainbow colored light came down on the Digimon, making them glow with the Digivices the kids had, making them start to change.

(Insert Song: Brave Heart)

"Koromon Digivolve to~, AGUMON!"

"Tsunomon Digivolve to~, GABUMON!"

"Yokomon Digivolve to~, BIYOMON!"

"Motimon Digivolve to~, TENTOMON!"

"Tanemon Digivolve to~, PALMON!"

"Bukamon Digivolve to~, GOMAMON!"

"Tokomon Digivolve to~, PATAMON!"

"Nyaromon Digivolve to~, SALAMON!"

"Moonmon Digivolve to~, LUNAMON!"

"Hopmon Digivolve to~, MONODRAMON!"

Each of the lights faded, revealing their new forms. Koromon now stood as an orange, green eyed, dinosaur-like creature just short of Tai's height. Tsunomon turned into a yellow bipedal lizard creature with a blue and pink belly pattern, green eyes, a single yellow horn, and he was covered in a blue and pale blue pelt of fur. Yokomon now stood as a pink bird with yellow talons with a silver chain on one of them, some blue accents on her feathers, a red beak, and blue eyes. Motimon was now a small red, yellow, and black beetle creature with green bug eyes, with small red legs. Tanemon stood as a humanoid plant of sorts with a pink flower on her head and purple thorn colored fingers. Tokomon was still on all fours, but had blue eyes with a beige underbelly, orange top, and wings for ears. Nyaromon stood as a beige colored puppy with teal eyes, and a golden yellow ring around her neck. Moonmon stood as a pink rabbit with purple accents on her rabbit-like ears, yellow lunar markings, and pink ribbons around her torso held by a silver moon medallion. And finally, Hopmon stood as a purple draconic/dinosaur digimon with golden patterns and red lines on his chest with silver drill claws.

Tai and most of the others stared in shock at the sight before them, although Kari had more of an awestruck look on her face, every one of the kids simply didn't know what to say in response to what happened before their eyes.

"Agumon. You're the battle leader. You got the shots unless I say so," Salamon informed quickly.

"Got it, Salamon. Let's get 'em!" Agumon shouted.

The ten Digimon all rushed in and tried their own methods to attack. Kuwagamon managed to slap them back, but they all recovered a lot faster than they did in their previous form.

"Hold him down!" Agumon told the others.

"Poison Ivy~!" Palmon called out, launching her vine fingers and yanked the beetle down to the ground.

"Boom Bubble! PAH!" Patamon shouted, launching a puff of air from his inflated body that forced the beetle down.

"Super Shocker!" Tentomon added, launching a burst of lightning.

"Beat Knuckle!" Monodramon roared, punching the beetle in the face with enough force to leave some sort of a visible dent on Kuwagamon's back, revealing what looked to be some kind of a black gear on its back.

"That gear! Agumon, we need to destroy it as quickly as possible!" Salamon advised.

"Right! Palmon! Give us a clear shot at that gear!" Agumon added, Palmon yanking the beetle down, the dino preparing a fireball and firing it off, "Pepper Breath! PAH!"

"Blue Blaster!" Gabumon added, launching blue fire from his mouth.

"Spiral Twister!" Biyomon added, firing a green spiral of flames from her beak.

"Tear Shot!" Lunamon called, sending out a water orb from her forehead that followed the other blasts.

"Petit Punch!" Salamon shouted, leaping up and punching the gear before the blasts hit it as well, managing to shatter the gear.

The ten Digimon then took a moment to catch their breath as Kuwagamon grew limp and motionless.

(End Insert Song)

"That... was… AMAZING!" Kari shouted out, rushing over and scooping Salamon into her arms, "You're all so cool!"

Suddenly, Kuwagamon's body began to move. The group all moved back before Kuwagamon's body fell right onto the ground and the force of the tumble managed to crack the ground. The group all gasped as the cliff side they were on fell off from the main body of the cliff and sent them all tumbling down towards the water below…

Pikatwig: And that ends chapter one.

KKD: Very cool idea, even if the cast was larger than before.

Muk: Really enjoyed working on this one, cannot wait to work on other chapters.

Pikatwig: It was fun to work on a story with both of you at the same time again. Last time we did it… reception wasn't all that positive. But, that was then, this is now.

KKD: Right. As long as we have something that we can enjoy working on as a team.

Muk: Agreed, I don't care what others have to say. So long as we can still write together, that's good enough for me!

Pikatwig: I'll go ahead and answer a few questions that I get the impression some of you are wondering. First off, Ryo is actually originally from the Digimon Adventure universe and not the Tamers universe. He made a cameo appearance in Our War Games and was in Ken's flashbacks to the Digital World in 02. The Wonderswan Digimon games cover how he jumped from one universe to the other.

Muk: The games are canon?

Pikatwig: Yeah. Even though there are a few continuity hiccups in them because the writers of the games had no communication with the writers of the anime.

KKD: I made a joke that Ryo's kind of the "Where's Waldo?" of Digimon, but the fact he never left Tamers and that revelation blew that theory/joke out of the water.

Pikatwig: Next is Kari being with the group. Originally, Kari was not meant to be a DigiDestined, just someone who knew of the Digital World. That got scrapped and she was made into their eighth member after production wanted to change things up a little. In the reboot, Kari won't be with the group when they initially go into the Digital World, but Gatomon will be hanging around the DigiDestined regardless of that.

KKD: That is going to leave things confusing in the show I think, but here's hoping they do something good with it.

Pikatwig: As for Kari's new personality… I hate to say it, but she was a little… lacking in personality in the original. Just a little. Then I read that she would have some mysterious connection to the Digital World in the reboot and recalled some of her dialogue in the episode where Tai and Koromon ended up back in the real world and decided to go with "obsessed with monsters and such". I've had fun writing that characterization.

KKD: As much as I have fond memories of the original show, I gotta say I enjoy the new angle you're taking with this one for Kari, Pika.

Muk: Definitely, this new concept for Kari is honestly a lot of fun to write.

KKD: But now I think we need to look at the elephant in the room… or the one connected to the rabbit. *looks to Mei*

Pikatwig: Right. Originally, when I was making the concept for the story, Meiko was originally going to be added into the group just to try to do something with her character that Tri didn't do. Then I decided to throw Ryo into the group so we'd still have a nice number of characters for a later storyline. Meiko was made into Joe's cousin because I honestly kind of think they do look like they could be relatives. We all agreed to scrap Meicoomon from the story and give her a new partner for the sake of diversity and new story-telling. Plus, there's the fact Meicoomon is somehow Apocalymon reincarnated… and that makes no sense.

KKD: Yea, that has to be scrapped for our story. Not liking that route at all. The rest though… makes sense.

Hinata: Was Lunamon originally a placeholder and you all just agreed to pick her for something unique?

Pikatwig: Yup.

KKD: Yea, kinda makes sense. Forgoing the Digimon that shares Mei's name, we needed something different to avoid the joke. And honestly, I like Lunamon and her line from a design standpoint alone, and I can see us doing a lot with her.

Muk: I have never seen Tri so I can't really say anything about Meicoomon. I just agreed with Lunamon cause, like KKD, I like the design and I think it goes well with Mei.

Pikatwig: Glad to hear that my placeholder ended up being liked so much.

KKD: Yea. Good call. Though I can't help but wonder if, knowing you, you'll make a Sailor Moon reference.

Pikatwig: *blinks and then facepalms* That never even occurred to me! Thank you for giving me the idea.

KKD: *chuckles* Shoulda seen that coming.

Pikatwig: Oh, and Meiko is said to have a bit of a southern accent. It's said in Tri that she's from Osaka and even her English VA gave her a bit of a hint of a southern accent in the dub.

KKD: That's something I never got. How is it that an accent from a certain city in Japan translates to American Southern accents?

Pikatwig: Osaka is basically the equivalent to the south in Japan.

KKD: ...I still don't get it regardless. Cultural differences, mainly.

Pikatwig: Anyway, overall thoughts on this? Cause I honestly had a fun time retelling the beginning of this iconic story.

Muk: Yeah this was really a lot of fun to do. From the characters, to the interactions, really I enjoyed everything. I cannot wait to work on the next chapters.

KKD: I really did enjoy the original show, and while the changes here were subtle, it was enough to keep things interesting, and I can't wait to see how this retelling will go from here.

Pikatwig: What was your favorite part? Mine has to be the scene with the snowball fight. I don't know why I thought it up, but I just randomly decided to put it in and we all had fun with it. Plus, the scenes with monster-obsessed Kari were really fun.

Muk: For me it's a tie between the snowball fight and the battle. Like you said, the snow ball fight was fun, and the battle with the Digivolutions was just epic. Also yes, monster-obsessed Kari is great.

KKD: Really tough for me to figure it out. There's a lot of similarities to the show that help establish our leads more, but for favs… yea, I'm in agreement with you both. Snowball fight, battle, and Kari being monster-obsessed.

Pikatwig: I'll admit I'm a wee bit worried about the reception to our reimagining of Kari, but only time will tell how people will react. As will for all of the other changes. Oh, and as for Kuwagamon having a black gear in him… I think a novelization ended up establishing that as a plot point in it, but I can't quite recall if that was the case or if I just imagined that. Either way, it does make sense with how it acted in the show.

KKD: Yea. Though speaking of Kari, all this kinda makes me wonder what would happen later in the series like how would things occur if Tai came home without the others like the show. Would other people be there to see him? Is that gonna hint at newer DigiDestined? Well, too soon to say, but that's food for thought, I guess.

Pikatwig: Uh… we'll get to that when we cross that bridge.

KKD: Like I said, food for thought.

Pikatwig: Well, I hope you all enjoyed this first chapter. I hope you'll be around for the next one. Just Live More.

KKD: *salutes* Jaa ne.

Muk: Sain'ofu.
