It's Imagination Island, Charlie Brown

Chapter 1: A Great Book

It was nighttime, and all was quiet in the town. At Tosha's house, she, Min, Heather, Peppermint Patty, Marcie and Sally were having a sleepover. It was nearing bedtime and everyone was gathered around to hear a story. The book was 'Imagination Island' and they were thrilled to be reading it.

"And every child in the whole town knew that this was the beginning of a new adventure, and so all the little children climbed into a beautiful ship with sails that went up to the sky. A wonderful ship that would sail clear across the ocean and take the children to Imagination Island, with all of its wonderful surprises." Began the voice of Tosha's mom as the girls listened in awe, relaxing in their sleeping bags. "But there was one thing the children didn't know about the island, and that was-" she tried to continue, but was cut off by Kevin and Kyle's crying.

"And that was what?" asked Sally eagerly.

"Uh oh. The twins are crying. I better go check on them." Said Tosha's mom, putting the book down.

"Oh, mom." Tosha sighed, sitting up.

"We were just getting to the good part." Min sighed.

"I was actually liking that book." Peppermint Patty huffed.

"It IS addictive." Heather giggled.

"Phooey." Sulked Sally.

"Sorry, girls." Tosha's mom sighed.

"Don't worry, hun. I'll take care of the twins." Tosha's dad suggested from the hallway.

"Oh. Thanks."

"See mom. You can read some more." Tosha suggested.

"Yes, please." Min, Sally and Heather smiled.

"I don't think so." Tosha's mom denied.

"Why not?!" Peppermint Patty demanded boldly.

"You invited the girls for a sleepover visit, remember?" asked Tosha's mom. "So I think it's time you girls get ready for bed. Your friend Marcie's already sleeping too."

Defeated, the five girls decided to get in their sleeping bags. "Okay." Min said as an idea hit Tosha.

"Mom, before we go to bed, may I show Min, Patty, Heather and Sally my new necklace?" asked Tosha.

"Alright." Her mom replied, helping her get the necklace on.

"You got a new necklace?" Sally asked in eagerness.

"Wait until you see it." Tosha beamed.

"Now be sure to take it off BEFORE you get into bed." Tosha's mom reminded.

"I will." Tosha smiled.

"You can play for five more minutes, and then I'll check to be sure you're all in bed. Okay?"

"Okay."

"Goodnight, girls."

"Goodnight."

"Oooh!" Sally awed.

"Doesn't my necklace look beautiful?" Tosha asked.

"I don't know, let me see it." Min suggested.

"I still can't believe you got a new necklace." Peppermint Patty said.

"Oh. It's pretty." Heather smiled.

"My parents gave it to me for helping take care of my baby brothers, and I'm supposed to be VERY careful with it." Tosha said.

"Good idea, Tosh!" Peppermint Patty exclaimed as she and Min hit her with pillows. Almost instantly, a pillow fight broke out among the girls-Tosha, Min and Heather on one side and Sally and Peppermint Patty on the other. Patty was using the Barney doll as a barricade. Suddenly, a pillow knocked both girl and dinosaur over.

"Oops! Sorry, Patty." Tosha apologized. "Sorry, Barney."

"It's okay, Tosha. I'm fine." Peppermint Patty said, imitating Barney's voice as the rest of the girls giggled.

"I think it's your bedtime, Barney." Min thought, scooping up the doll and placing him in the bed. "There you go."

Peppermint Patty smiled as she picked up the book. "Wanna read some more of the story before we go to bed?" she asked as the girls stared at her.

"You? Read to us?" Sally asked in shock.

"Why not? Marcie's sound asleep." Peppermint Patty stated. "So, do you guys want me to read the book? Do you?"

"I sure do." Heather said.

"I wanna know what the surprises are on Imagination Island." Tosha agreed.

"The beautiful ship sailed across the ocean, pushed by a warm and wonderful wind." Peppermint Patty read aloud, ruffling the bespectacled girl's hair as she slept. "But just as the ship got to Imagination Island, the sky turned dark and spooky! 'Oh no!' cried the children 'It's a storm!'."

Sally screamed as she clutched Fluffy, as did Heather with Caramel and Velvet. "It's just a book." Peppermint Patty promised, putting down the book and grabbing Cupcake. Just then, lightning crackled and the Barney doll in the bed came to life.

"WHOA!" exclaimed Barney.

"Barney?" the five girls asked.

"That's me." Barney replied.

"BARNEY!" the five kids exclaimed, running towards him.

"Better make up the bed…hi Tosha, hi Min, hi Peppermint Patty, hi Sally, hi Heather." Barney greeted.

"Barney, you're NOT afraid of thunder, are you?" asked Tosha.

"Not me." Barney said.

"Not me either." Peppermint Patty smirked.

"Then why are your toes shaking?" asked a giggly Sally.

"Our toes?" the tomboy asked.

"Maybe I got just a little scared-in a fun way-listening to that wonderful story Peppermint Patty was reading." Barney said.

"And NOTHING scares Patricia Reichardt!" Peppermint Patty said boastfully as a loud snore caught everyone's attentions. Patty's response? "RUN FOR COVER!"

"What was that?" Barney asked.

"That was the 'brave' Peppermint Patty, afraid of a little snoring from Marcie, Barney." Heather laughed.

"Nothing, huh?" asked a giggling Sally as she grabbed the book. "See? This is the book we were reading."

"Pretty rad, huh?" Peppermint Patty asked, calming down from her panic attack.

"Oh, just think about it. Tall ships, the open sea and an island adventure." Barney smiled. "WOW!"

"I'd LOVE to sail on a big ship." Min smiled.

"Same here!" Heather said. "I'd be first mate Heather G. Wold!"

"I'd read the map and help us find the treasure!" Sally squealed.

"And I'd fight off scary pirates!" Peppermint Patty said, swinging Cupcake around, accidentally hitting Marcie in the face as it woke her.

"I'm up…" grumbled a very sleepy Marcie, rubbing her eyes. "Is it morning yet?"

"No, we were reading." Min giggled. "And talking about sailing big ships!"

"That sounds…fun?" Marcie shrugged.

"Well, you could do those things, you know." Barney reminded.

"We could?" the six girls asked.

"Sure. You could do anything, if you just imagine." Barney said.

Barney:

Just imagine, just imagine

Just imagine all the things that we could be

Imagine all the places we could go and see

Imagination's fun for you and me

Tosha:

We could go to the moon in a great big balloon

Min:

Build a castle by playing pretend

Sally and Heather:

We might even explore with a big dinosaur

Barney:

Or make rainbows that never end

Barney, Tosha, Min, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Heather and Sally:

Just imagine, just imagine

Just imagine all the things that we could be

Imagine all the places we could go and see

Imagination's fun for you and me

Peppermint Patty:

We could go anywhere

Marcie:

We can be anyone

Barney:

We can do it quite easily, too

We just play let's pretend and we know in the end

That it's so much fun to do

Barney, Tosha, Min, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Heather and Sally:

Just imagine, just imagine

Just imagine all the things that we could be

Imagine all the places we could go and see

Imagination's fun for you and me.

Barney:

Imagination's fun for you and me.

"Okay, first things first, hi Barney!" Marcie smiled, hugging the dinosaur. "Second, is the story over yet?"

"Not yet, Little Friend." Peppermint Patty replied cheerily. "You woke up just in time for the best part and-what're you doing, gals?"

"I'm using my imagination." Tosha said.

"Me too." Min added.

"Us three and four." Sally giggled.

"Room for two more?" inquired Peppermint Patty.

"Sure." Min replied.

"Good. I'm ALSO using my imagination." Peppermint Patty smiled.

"Same here." Marcie added.

"Then something fun is bound to happen." Barney commented as a glow of magic leaped from the book and into Tosha's closet.

"What's that?" Heather wondered.

"What's happening?" Sally wondered.

"I'm imagining something wonderful!" Barney explained as a flight of stairs greeted everyone.

"That's it?" Sally asked in slight disgust.

"Nope." Peppermint Patty explained.

"Twinkle, twinkle, little stairs. Up you go to who knows where." Barney giggled. "So, who wants to go first?"

"After you." Min insisted.

"Oh, no. after you." Tosha denied as she, Min, Heather, Sally and Peppermint Patty argued over who should go first. They then had an idea.

"After you, Barney." The five girls said in unison.

"Alright, here I go." Barney said, wandering up the stairs. The girls then heard ship bells and sea waves, along with birds. "Oh boy! Oh boy! You have got to see this!" he exclaimed.

"I'll go if you will." Min told Tosha.

"Okay!" Tosha exclaimed.

"What're we waiting for?" Sally asked as she ran up the stairs.

"No running!" Heather called out as she, Min and Tosha chased her.

"Marcie? You coming?" Peppermint Patty called out. "Marcie? Where'd she go?"

"Over here!" Marcie cried out from the top step. "What're you waiting for, slow poke?"

Meanwhile, at day camp, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Woodstock, Schroeder, Linus, and Franklin came back to their cabin, ready to call it a night. Especially on their last night at day camp. Tomorrow they'll get to go home. "Man, this week has been exhausting." Charlie Brown complained.

"Yeah, a lot of games, exercises, and too much chow!" Schroeder agreed.

"At least we'll all get to go home tomorrow." Linus smiled.

"I can't wait to show Marcie the picture I painted." Franklin said, yawning.

"Snoopy, would you and Woodstock like to sleep with me tonight?" Charlie Brown offered. The beagle and bird smiled and nodded. "Good. Go grab your pajamas from your tent and come to bed."

Snoopy and Woodstock went to their tent to fetch their pajamas. They then spotted a sparkle of light coming from the camp storm shelter. They both smiled, wanting to see more. They walked over to the shelter and opened the door.

"Ooo..." Snoopy and Woodstock smiled. They then slipped inside to see what they could find.

Franklin, Schroeder, and Linus were already dressed in their pajamas, ready to sleep. "I'm more than ready for bed, guys." Schroeder yawned. "I can't wait to go home tomorrow."

"I wonder what it would be like to ride in a balloon." Linus said.

"And go to the moon?" Franklin asked with a smile.

"How did you know?" Linus smiled. Before Franklin could even answer, Charlie Brown approached his friends.

"Where's Snoopy? He and Woodstock were supposed to meet me back here for bedtime." Charlie Brown said.

"Maybe they're still in their tent." Schroeder said. They went out to check, but couldn't find them. Before anyone could say another word, they saw the magic sparkly light coming from the shelter.

"What is that?" Franklin asked. The boys went to check it out. As they studied it further, they smiled as they knew who it could only be.

"Barney?" all four boys asked with smiles.

"Only one way to find out." Charlie Brown smiled as they stepped in to see if Barney and Snoopy were in there.

Lucy was asleep in her bedroom when the same sparkle of light that the girls, Snoopy, Woodstock, and the boys saw earlier shine from her closet. "It's not even a school day!" Lucy whined, thinking it was her parents trying to wake her up. After she heard nothing, she sat up straight and saw the light coming from her closet. "What in the world..." Lucy was curious, so she got up out of bed, went over to the closet, and opened the door. "Barney?"

She then walked into her closet, wondering if it she could fine her dinosaur friend. Rerun tiptoed towards the closet and crawled after her.

"Barney…" smiled Rerun in awe as he followed Lucy.

Once the girls had made it to the top, they were shocked. "WHOA!"

"Welcome aboard, yo ho!" Barney exclaimed as he waved. He was dressed as a pirate.

"Oh dear. We're not dressed for the occasion." Sally worried before realizing something. "What're we all wearing?"

"Pirate clothing from a long time ago." Marcie explained, giggling. "You look silly with that bandanna, Sir."

"So do you with the eye patch, Marce." Teased Peppermint Patty.

"What eye patch?"

"The one on your glasses."

"Oh."

"I have one too. Don't tell me my lazy eye is back." Sally blinked.

"Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!" Barney cheered. "Are you ready for a sailing adventure?"

Marcie gulped, turning green whilst Heather and Sally cheered, jumping for joy and chanting 'pirates'.

"Arrr!" Peppermint Patty agreed.

"Yes." Min smiled.

"Me too!" Tosha said before realizing something. "Right after I put my necklace back."

"I'll come with you." Marcie said, wanting to get out of this adventure as soon as possible. The two ran to the small door and headed inside. Something was very off. "You know what, this ISN'T the way to your bedroom anymore."

"It sure isn't." Tosha replied as they went back on deck.

"Welcome back." Barney chanted as the two went back on deck.

"I thought you were gonna put your new necklace away." Peppermint Patty recalled.

"I guess I'll just be VERY CAREFUL with my necklace." Tosha explained.

"Good idea." Heather said.

"Now, as long as our ship's at sea, let's see our ship." Barney suggested.

Barney:

Sailing, sailing,

Over the bounding main,

For many a stormy wind shall blow

'Til we come home again.

Sailing, sailing,

Until the winds are gone,

And who's inside, along for the ride?

Curious, Peppermint Patty lifted the lid to one of the barrels, only to find Shawn, Linus and Charlie Brown in the barrel.

Peppermint Patty:

It's Linus, Chuck and Shawn.

Shawn, Linus and Charlie Brown:

Row, row, row your boat

Gently down the stream

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily

Life is but a dream

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

Row, row, row your boat

Gently down the stream

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily

Life is but a dream

Row, row, row your boat

Gently down the stream

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily

Life is but a dream

Sailing, sailing,

Over the bounding main,

For many a stormy wind shall blow

'Til we come home again.

Charlie Brown:

Sailing, sailing,

It's really sink or swim,

Barney:

And on our trip, steering the ship,

It's Derek and Franklin

Derek:

I'll sing you a song

A good song of the sea

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

With a way, hey!

Blow the men down!

Franklin:

And trust that you'll join in

The chorus with me

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

Give me some time

To blow the men down!

Sally:

Sailing, sailing,

I hope we never stop,

They all reached a little door on the deck.

Linus:

The door is closed, but not for long,

He then opened the door as a familiar three-year-old crawled out of the hiding space.

'Cause here is Baby Bop.

"Hi." Baby Bop waved as she and Linus preformed a little dance. Sally smiled and closed the door, though she swore she saw a hand try to stop her from doing so.

Baby Bop:

My blankey lies over the ocean

Linus:

My blanket lies over the sea

Baby Bop and Linus:

My blankey/blanket lies over the ocean

Oh bring back my blankey/blanket to me

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

Bring back, bring back

Baby Bop and Linus:

Oh bring back my blankey/blanket to me

To me

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

Bring back, bring back

Baby Bop and Linus:

Oh bring back my blankey/blanket to me

Charlie Brown:

Sailing, sailing,

With the ones we love

Barney:

Now look up high, up in the sky!

It's BJ up above!

Coming down from the crow's nest was BJ. Same with Woodstock and Snoopy.

BJ:

A sailor went to sea, sea, sea

To see what he could see, see, see,

But all that he could see, see, see,

Was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea.

Barney, Baby Bop, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

A sailor went to sea, sea, sea

To see what he could see, see, see,

But all that he could see, see, see,

BJ:

Was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea.

"HEY!" Snoopy exclaimed as he and Woodstock hugged their friends.

"WHAT'S GOING ON NOW?!" Lucy's voice yelled out as she now came onto the deck wearing pirate clothes like the rest of her friends. Rerun followed her, wearing a pirate vest over his baseball onesie.

"Looks like our last crew members have finally arrived." Barney chuckled. "Hi Lucy. Hi Rerun"

"Hi Barney, hi Baby Bop, hi BJ, hi everybody." Lucy smiled before yelling again. "WHAT'S GOING ON NOW?!"

"Barney magic, Lucy!" The rest of the kids smiled.

"I knew that when I saw the magic light coming from my closet. But what are we doing on this ship and wearing these..." Lucy said.

"Pirate clothes?" Peppermint Patty finished.

"EXACTLY!" Lucy yelled.

"Good question, Lucy! We're all sailing on the open seas to Imagination Island!" Barney smiled. Lucy blinked.

"Don't you mean Treasure Island, Barney?" Lucy asked.

"No. Imagination Island! Where there will be lots of fun surprises!" Barney chuckled.

"Well why didn't you say so?!" Lucy smiled. "Come on, crew!"

"ARRR!" Rerun giggled.

Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:

Sailing, sailing,

Over the bounding main,

For many a stormy wind shall blow

Till we come home again.

Sailing, sailing,

It looks so nice and clear,

We really know we're ready to go,

Cause now we-

"WAIT, WAIT, WAIT! STOP THE MUSIC!" Linus beckoned as a needle scratched a record.

"What's wrong?" Barney asked as Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, and Franklin realized that someone was missing.

"Where's Schroeder, Barney?" Charlie Brown asked.

"Oh, Schroeder?" Barney realized before "I didn't even know he was with you guys."

"What if my sweetheart is missing?" Lucy cried. "BOY OVERBOARD!"

"We'll find him." Linus said. "Maybe he stayed behind when we followed the staircase, or even chickened out and went back to sleep in the tent." He added as they all heard knocking on the door that Baby Bop crawled out of earlier.

"What was that?" Lucy asked as Sally gasped.

"Hey! Someone open the door! I can't see anything!" Schroeder called out as Barney opened the door and let him out.

Peppermint Patty:

Sailing, sailing,

To the island or bust!

Linus:

I can't believe we nearly forgot,

That Schroeder's here with us.

"Hi Barney!" Schroeder waved. "That was a tight fit."

"Hi! Now we're a complete crew!" Barney smiled. Schroeder picked up his piano and carried it onto the deck. Most of the kids realized he too, like Rerun, was in pajamas and giggled. Linus then smiled as a thought hit him.

"This feels like we're on the Mayflower! The ship that sailed the pilgrims to the New World." Linus said.

"Where can I put my piano, Barney?" Schroeder asked.

"Anywhere on the deck, Schroeder. I can't wait to sing some more songs." Barney smiled.

"We probably don't have room on the deck for a piano." Linus said, making Schroeder glare at him.

"Really? Well, if we're short of room, maybe we don't need to take along your blanket." Schroeder shot back.

"Oh, don't be a flippity-boot, Schroeder!" Baby Bop said, causing most of her friends to giggle, and BJ and Lucy to roll their eyes.

"Oh good grief!" Lucy said.

"Just put the piano on the deck." Linus smiled, making Schroeder smile back.

"It's so good to see all of my friends now!" Barney smiled as Schroeder propped the piano and began to play it.

Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

Sailing, sailing,

Over the bounding main,

For many a stormy wind shall blow

Till we come home again.

Sailing, sailing,

It looks so nice and clear

We really know we're ready to go

Cause now we ALL are here
