"Other than that, if someone shows you a skill, and guide you through it, then it will appear on your card, you can learn it, but… since your class is so specialized, you might not even get the chance to learn it, or the cost might be too high, or there might be some changes to the skill you want to learn from another person to fit your class, a lot of things can happen."

The explanation that the young Arch-Wizard gave was simple enough, but still, an elusive, inside-of-you skill tree. How did that work? Kazuma didn't know.

He knew of skill trees in RPG games, in fact he played them a lot, but there was no inherent explanation of why there was a path for your power.

Since he chose his top-tier job as a Sword Saint, he thought he was locked with the skills from that class, but it might be worth a try to find some magic for him.

"Meaning if I got you to show me how to do it, Megumin, I could, hypothetically, perhaps even learn Explosion?"

"N—No, unfortunately, the only class other than Arch-Wizard who can learn the explosion spell is the Adventurer since it's the most basic class." she looked dejected, so as the master, he grabbed her by the collar like a kitten and put her on his lap.

Aqua explained by his side with that annoying explaining pose and high and mighty expression, Kazuma twitched his eyebrows a little.

No flashy skills in other classes, just simple ones, the real hard-hitter skills need to come from the skill tree of the class you chose, that was the gist of it. So Kazuma's deadly skills needed to come from sword-saint instead of magical classes, damn his own magic stat, it was abysmally low, even lower than the average joe.

"Hey, Aqua. You must know all kinds of useful skills, right? Teach me something easy. Something that won't take too many points but will still be helpful. I'm looking for a good deal here."

Aqua held her water glass thoughtfully and was quiet for a moment. "…Well, all right. But just so you know, my skills are serious stuff. I don't go around teaching them to just anybody, got it Kazuma?"

Kazuma entered a deep thinking position, trying to find the so-called skill tree, after a few seconds pondering, he finally found it, it was hard to describe, it was like he was looking at a trail of marbles that went forever, each marble representing a skill, the trail branched out infinitely.

The first marble was already shining which meant it was his starting ability, it was something called [Sword Saint's presence—passive].

It gave a lot of bonuses to attack with swords, sensing enemies, boosting agility and strength, it had a lot more useful perks, but explaining it was not Kazuma's strong suit, he was lazy, suffice to say it was a nifty passive indeed, a good starting point to a high skill ceiling advanced class with many different skills, surely! His own gamer spirit was up for the challenge!

Looking at the branching paths, there were three skills that he could get, the first one was something called:

[True Damage—passive]

It transforms all sword damage you deal into true damage that ignores every defense, armor, resistance and nullification or reflection skills and any defensive passives the opponent might have.

'What is this overpowered skill? T—This sword saint class is no joke…' Kazuma dripped a bit of sweat as he learned the true nature of this passive skill, true damage, ignores everything? It passes through every defense? What is this? And it was only 1 point!

The next skill who was on the list cost 1 point, it was:

[Heroic Charge—passive]

The user will turn temporarily invulnerable and rush to any perceived opponent, with speeds greater than the target can react, in the moment the Sword Saint decides to make an attack stunning the opponent.

If the opponent is father than 2 meters from you, you will charge again, making them vulnerable, and the charge will repeat itself during combat if the enemy tries to separate themselves from the Sword Saint.

The passive will end only when the Sword Saint desires, or the target is dead.

Another skill, even more overpowered than the last, if everything in the text was true then that meant no ranged attacker could ever escape Kazuma's range, he will always charge and stun them as long as they try to get away, and be temporarily invulnerable, invulnerable it says!

'If this is true, can't I jump back farther than 2 meters and charge again when I want to stun them, what is this? An exploit? Kuhaha,' Kazuma was overjoyed, but still the passive had some problems with it, he just wasn't seeing the cons yet.

'But still, another passive? Where are the active skills that use mana?! I don't want to be an auto-attack boring class! I want a class with a high skill ceiling! What is this shitty game?'

The next skill, the only one left worth a point was:

[Saint Strike—passive]

Every third attack on an enemy unleashes a second automatic strike, devastating the enemy with the strike of the Sword Saint.

'Where are the cool active skills?!' Kazuma despaired.

And this Saint Strike, what was it, this devastating attack? It was too obscure and ambiguous! He looked at the list, but was unwilling to go further, the list only contained skills with 3 points or above, and skimming through the names of the skills, they were all passive, he was done for!

His fun adventures as a caster were far away, even warrior classes had cooldowns, all he had was passives, there was no activation skill in the skill tree, no cooldowns, no resource management, he only had to hit and attack the enemy.

"Hey Kazuma, Kazuma" Aqua waved in front of him.

"Hi, I'm Kazuma." He said dejected.

Chris was certainly disappointed by his inability to learn her other skills, but this one might work.

If luck really affected every facet of his life, then he wished he could learn this, at least one active ability for his build, he implored Astarte for this small wish

Also as a side-note, the skill Aqua showed him was there, the party skill wonders of nature, this one wasn't mutated or changed, but it cost more than 35 points to learn, of course, since his class was specialized, it obviously cost way more, since it involved actual conjuring magic, something that the sword saint sucked at with his magic being below 10.

He was somewhat intrigued by the skill, but in the end, it was a parlor trick, it didn't beat his skills with a trump deck, he didn't spend 1,000 hours learning deck magic while glued to tutorial videos for nothing!

Well, returning to the present, he spent his last points getting [Usurper], and the skill imprinted itself in his DNA, and seared itself on his soul.

Then they saw the female knight grabbing Kazuma, with Kazuma also grabbing Darkness, they didn't see the crusader's or the sword saint's faces, but they knew that this was love, they were sure the female knight was being comforted by the sword saint. But they didn't see the reality.

She paused. "That's why Megumin and Kazuma are impressive. Kazuma mowed down thousands of them and Megumin's the one who brought down in one magnificent explosion all those cabbages. You both sure took all the adventurers there by surprise!"

"Heh-heh-heh. None can stand against my Explosion spell." Megumin took a breath. "Really, though, Kazuma was remarkable. After I'd collapsed from my spell, he rushed out, collected me, and brought me back."

Kazuma had a gloating look as they continued to praise him.

"True," Darkness said. "When I was surrounded by cabbages all making me their punching bag, it was Kazuma who appeared. You saved me and even used my body as a bat to kill the cabbages, Kazuma. I thank you."

Kazuma was now blushing over their praise, ah it wasn't much, just an expert use of his passive abilities, his gamer mind worked hard to see the exploits that could be used.

"I saw him use the Usurper skill on many of those cabbages, how many did he even collect?" asked Megumin. "It was like watching a dark hero at work."

Kazuma's head was so big it might explode by this point.

Aqua finished her cabbages and loudly placed her plates down, the useless goddess who chased all the cabbages without any plans, and was only good at doing that 'wonders of nature' thing and healing the downed adventurers, wiped her mouth and said. "Kazuma… By my name, I hereby give you the title 'Elegant Cabbage Thief.'"

Kazuma slapped Aqua's cheeks hard, she sat down with a crying face, Darkness was certainly jealous. "That's ridiculous! If anyone ever calls me that title, I'll pop 'em right in the mouth! Arrrrgh, how did things come to this…?"

"Kazuma, you are pretty brutal sometimes..." said Megumin. Darkness praised how much of a sadist he was becoming. With Aqua crying for a little bit. The night continued with Kazuma and the others ordering more food and more booze and alcohol, truly they were addicted to the substance. All four were getting wasted on the beer.

Aqua, who recovered from the slap thirty minutes ago, gulped her glass full of beer in one shot and said with a happy-go-lucky face. "Hee-hee! Our group is starting to look impressive, huh? There's me, the Arch-Priest who specializes in healing. Megumin, the Arch-Wizard who specializes in high area damage. Darkness, the Holy Crusader who specializes in frontline defense. Kazuma, the Sword Saint who specializes in close quarters. How many parties are there, where all the four members are from advanced classes, huh, Kazuma? True, he knew how it worked, but there wasn't an extensive inner-working explanation about it, all he knew that he could throw any blade within 5 seconds of each other, that was the cooldown, however Heroic blink, the second part of the ability made him pause, that meant that even if the sword didn't accurately hit an enemy, he would still be able to teleport to the blade.

This was his second activatable ability, and he had a feeling it would be a long while until he found another cooldown ability. The rest of his points would be spent trying to get the rest of his skill tree as a sword saint, that meant more passives on top of passives.

As for any magic it seemed like a lost cause, even after a week full of sex between three female partners, his magic was still in the 9, even when he powered up, sometimes a point wasn't even added after a level up.

He had no talent for magic, proof of it that the stat was still one point below 10, the average that the world had.

For great talents that could choose top-tier jobs right from the beginning, it wasn't strange for them to start with dozens or more skill points. "Don't be stupid—I think you forgotten that I am a goddess Kazuma! This Hagoromo is a holy relic. It can defend against all abnormal statuses and has great durability, it's enchanted with all sorts of magic, a precious artifact worthy of being wielded by me! There is no better equipment than this!"

Then again, it was maybe to look badass in the battlefield, a sword saint with no armor that was a sight. A shield was a no-go, the sword-saint class wouldn't allow to use anything else but blades.

Of course he was then made fun of by Aqua and Darkness for some reason or another, and the Arch-Wizard was still drooling over her new staff. Now that the new equipment was sorted, he was looking for another quest, one that he could laze about.

"Now is the mating season for the Giant Toads and they have been showing up near town, how about—" said Darkness.

"No toads!" both Megumin and Aqua retorted.

"...Why not? Toads fear blades and are easy to take down, their sole mode of attack is grabbing prey with their tongues. The toad meat could be sold for easy money. I heard you might get eaten if your equipment is too weak, but since Kazuma has blades here, there shouldn't be a problem, toads hate metal, and he, as the sword saint can protect you both."

"Hrm...The two of them were eaten by toads before, so they have some trauma from that. They were eaten head-first and covered in slime, so it can't be helped. Let's find another quest."

"Let's give up on the demon king..."

'Well, it was worth a try' thought Kazuma as he led the complaining goddess to the board. "Having said that, the best enemies for clerics and other healers are undead. Undeads are a race that goes against the gods, so most priests become their greatest predators since their powers are so damaging to the undead."

Since Kazuma and the others increased their stats while leveling, shouldn't Aqua increase hers too? There is an argument to be made that if she gets to a higher level, maybe she won't be so dumb.

"Yes, that seems fine and all. But don't forget that Darkness' armor isn't ready..." anounced Megumin. Darkness crossed her arms. "I am fine with it, my full set of endurances and defensive skills are not for show. Even without my armor, my body is harder than even adamantite, and it feels better without armor when I get hit."

Kazuma sighed. "Listen, isn't your armor made of adamantite?"

"Yes, what of it?" asked Darkness who was confused.

"Then what's the point of your armor when your body is harder and more durable than it!?" asked Kazuma with rage in his eyes at her airheadedness.

"Oh..." as she realized, Kazuma kicked her in the ass again.

Part 7

On a hill 500 metres away from town there was a public cemetery for those unfortunate in the financial aspect of their lives, summarizing it was the cemetery of the poor and homeless. It was of note that the dead were buried on this world, he had to confirm it because new worlds, new set of rules.

It was good that Kazuma with his [Sword Saint's presence], one of its benefits was the ability to sense enemies.

Aqua's words were ominous but nothing like that would happen, right? He hoped so, as strong as they might be, against a really tough enemy it might be hard. "Wait, how many…? There are dozens… I'm sensing dozens of enemies" there was a lightshow in the middle of the cemetery, blue lights rising to the sky, all evil and fantasy-like. "What the- There's something really powerful here! Like really powerful…!" At the center of the lights there was a magic circle and a lone figure with black robes.

"Hrmmm… I don't think that's a zombie maker, what...what do you think?" asked Megumin who didn't sound confident. It was noted there were several floating shadows near the robed fellow.

"Even if it isn't the Zombie Maker… I'll try to subdue it, at this time there aren't going to be any homeless trying to pray for their dead daughter or son, so it's probably an undead doing a shady business, you guys follow up with me, remember, Aqua is the one that needs to kill them so she can gain a few levels." discussed Kazuma as he formulated their plan.

That serene smile pissed him off, why did those dirt poor old men that died on the side of the street look like they achieved nirvana? Fuck them! Those were his basic thoughts as an asshole.

But there were some children too, their spirits were crying, somehow this hit Kazuma in his black heart, even he could be compassionate sometimes, you know?

"Huh!? A lich performing this benevolent job, don't joke with me! Only priests like me can do such benevolent acts! So shoo away, I hope Kazuma rapes you, he seems the the to like necro!" said Aqua kicking the held female lich in the face.

"Hey!" retorted Kazuma at the necro part.

Aqua ignored the lich's protests. "Turn undead-!" A white light flooded the cemetery, all zombies, spirits and everything were being purified by that light.

"Hyaa~ My b-body is fading? Stop, my body is disappearing, I don't want to die."

So, the little lich in his arms still didn't want to die, he might be an asshole, but when it came for sentient beings, he was such a sap still.

Kazuma's low voice rang out. "Stop Aqua."

"Hahaha! Foolish lich! Your existence goes against the laws of nature, an undead which defies the will of the gods! Disappear, be vanquished by my holy power!"

"I ordered you to stop Aqua." Kazuma glared harshly, the tattoo in Aqua's womb shined pink and the spell was over, she was stopped in her tracks as she felt the full weight of the power he had over her, she was his slave.

"B-But Kazuma! W-why did you stop me!?" she complained, the goddess had no shred of compassion at all huh?

"She is here for a reason Aqua, let's hear it. What's your name?" he released her and her hood fell down, wavy brown hair, gorgeous face, black eyes, with the appearance of a 20-year-old. "T-thank, for sparing me, You are all correct, I'm a lich, my name is Wiz."

"W-why are you trying to get close to her Kazuma? she'll corrupt you! Let me cast turn undead on her!" Aqua became agitated, but with Wiz hiding behind her would-be rapist, Kazuma's stern look also halted Aqua.

Wiz had a troubled and terrified expression, she had a very submissive and shy personality. "Because I'm the no-life king, I can hear the cries of wandering souls. This is a communal graveyard. Most of the people here were too poor to receive a proper burial. Now they drift among the graves every night, unable to reach Heaven. Since they are under my authority, I come here regularly to help all the children who wish to ascend to Heaven."

Kazuma's eyes had waterfalls, he hugged her closely, not minding how cold her face was.

"It must be difficult, shouldering all that! What a good person." Kazuma yelled as he rested on her shoulder, the lich Wiz had no idea what to do, a hand came to pet her hair, and then she was petted with a speed of 70 km/h, that almost broke her neck and left her dizzy and unbalanced, she almost fainted.

"Hey, Kazuma..." Darkness tried to ask, but was too stunned at the display of empathy, the other two almost fainted, the humongous asshole Kazuma was crying for someone else…?

"You didn't see that." Kazuma stopped the hug and turned so no one could see his face. "Seeing the spirits of the children who never had a chance to properly live made me have a moment of weakness is all." He scratched his nose as he faced them with red eyes, as a snot ran from his nose.

"Kazuma..." all three girls muttered his name as they got newfound respect for him, he wasn't completely evil, that was nice to know.

"That's really admirable, but…isn't that something you should leave for the town's Priests to take care of?" asked Megumin as she approached, not sure how to handle the whole situation. Wiz glanced uncomfortably. "Well, you see…the Priests in this town, they…they really care only about money. The poor go forgotten…"

No wonder she looked uncomfortable, with an Arch priest, Aqua, at that. Standing right there. "Followers of the almighty Eris, eh? Priest in the town who only worship money. This cemetery with poor and homeless people goes unattended and left to rot, right?" asked Kazuma.

"We-Well, that's how it is..."

'I knew it, the only goddess worthy of my worship is lady Astarte' thought Kazuma as he stared at another priest who worshipped money, the blue-haired arch priest, he wasn't the only one as Darkness and even Megumin stared at her, she averted her eyes.

"Well, no changing that, I guess," Kazuma went on. "But do you think you could stop summoning all these zombies? We came here thinking we were on the trail of a Zombie Maker, you know."

Wiz seemed uneasy at the sword saint's words. "Oh…I see… But I don't exactly summon them. when I came here, the spirits who still have bodies simply react to my magical power and come out on their own. If I knew someone was helping the lost souls, though, I wouldn't need to keep coming here…"

Part 8

The misfits were on their way home from the cemetery. "I cannot accept this!" Aqua was still angry. The sky was already brightening, it was dawn.

"She was so sweet. How could you want to destroy her?" Kazuma yelled at Aqua.

Kazuma decided to let the Lich go, Megumin and Darkness readily agreed, not wanting to kill Wiz, but the blue-haired Goddess still had some issues with it. They agreed that Aqua, the Arch Priest, who had plenty of time on her hands anyway, would go to the graveyard every so often to help along its wandering spirits.

Aqua might have been a pretty rotten goddess, but even she seemed to understand that helping lost souls and the undead was her duty. Even if she complained about not being able to sleep in anymore.

Darkness and Megumin, who'd at first were indecisive, relented when they learned that Wiz had never actually attacked anyone, also they didn't want to go against Kazuma on topics like this, the fact he cried for Wiz was still a shock to their core.

Kazuma looked at the piece of paper Wiz had given him. "A Lich just makes her home in this town and nobody minds? I don't mind her but this town has trash levels of security." The piece of paper gave her address. It turned out she was living in Axel, just like they were.

In fact, she was running a little shop that specializes in magic items, how convenient, almost like it was his luck acting again.

'I always pictured Liches living in the deepest depths of some dungeon, but then Wiz said it was awfully inconvenient and there was no sane reason to live in one' Kazuma thought as he reasoned, living in a dungeon is painful, you don't have convenience stores, you don't have bars and pubs, you don't have beautiful women to bang, living in a dungeon sucks. 'I get what she's saying. Liches were human once too. But you know, inconveniences or not, this world is crushing my fantasy expectations, I'm strangely sad… The sex is great though, thank Astarte.' Kazuma was someone who could live solely on the pleasures of sex and never get tired of it.

"All the same, I am glad things ended peacefully. We may have had Aqua on our side, but we were still facing a Lich. If it had come to a fight, people might have been hurt." Megumin said casually.

"Huh!? Are Liches really that dangerous? I mean they are endgame bosses and all..."

"Liches have extremely high Magic Defense, and only enchanted weapons can harm them. They can inflict a variety of status conditions merely by touching you, or they can absorb your HP and MP. Truly, they are legendary foes. Indeed, what I find perplexing is that Aqua's Turn Undead spell worked on her at all."

Kazuma was now more guarded, but as a Sword saint he had some tricks up his sleeve, having deadly magic by skin touch was a really good hamper to his plans of rapin—corrupting Wiz.

Kazuma hoped she was easy to deceive, or atleast submissive enough that a bit of forceful flirting might get him somewhere.

"Kazuma, gimme that business card. I'm gonna get to her house before she does and place a holy barrier around it. That'll show her!"

"Enough! Lay off it, would you…? Why do you care so much about the undead!"

"T—That's because— "

Darkness interrupted Aqua's explanations with a question: "Where does this leave our Zombie Maker quest?"

With a sigh, all of them said at once: "Oh."

Quest Failed.

Kazuma slumped as his completionist self took a massive blow. 'Quest failed. The first of the group. I mean technically there was never a Zombie maker in the first place and what's more- It doesn't count okay!'

Kazuma is beyond salvation, and his new skills and power will inflate his pride even more, with his morally corrupt placement in the scale, is he even a hero anymore at this point? It doesnt help that he's surrounded by clinically insane party members around him.

From this point on Kazuma and the others will become more and more OOC, I wanted to create a story where their canonical bad points are exacerbated to the highest degree and see where it takes the story and how it starts changing their character.

I'll be a bit busy in the coming weeks as work keeps piling on, however I am now working on the third chapter for this and I am on fire on my new persona 5 chapter… Ambition of a god is still being blocked by my mind, every time I open the document my mind shuts down… I hope I get over it and just write it.
