Alright, so I haven't posted on Fanfiction in years, but I've been stuck inside with this coronavirus going around and figured, why not? I don't have a set plan on where this story is going. I did originally plan on this being a Klaus/OC romance, but we will see what happens I suppose. I'm just having fun with it right now, but I would love to get some suggestions from anyone who reads this.
I'm a huge Vampire Diaries/Originals fan. Although I understand why it ended the way it did, I hate that Elijah and Klaus never seemed to hang on to even a moment of happiness. That being said, I think it might be possible to have my OC Kiara change their storyline in this fanfic. Maybe even give them a happy ending, who knows.
I am currently working on a manuscript that I hope to eventually get published so this is something I am working on when I need a break from that. I don't know how often I will be able to update this story. I have about four chapters written already that I am editing now. The more encouraging reviews I get, the more likely I am to stay motivated to write chapters for this. So if you like this story, please let me know.
Prologue
Living in Mystic Falls was peaceful until the Salvatore brothers came back into town. The town's events were boring. The school dances were predictable. And the most dramatic thing to happen at the grill was Vicki Donovan trying to use a fake I.D. at the bar, while already drunk. Although the descendants of the founding families were aware of things that went bump in the night, they weren't aware of all of them.
Unlike the other students at Mystic Falls High, Kiara wasn't raised in the small town. She and her guardian Holly came from out of state only three years before the car accident that nearly took Elena Gilbert's life. Kiara managed to go unnoticed by most and that was just fine with her. In fact, just thinking people were looking at her caused her anxiety. She went out of her way to hide under oversized sweatshirts and jeans. She kept her strawberry blonde curls under beanies and hoodies. And avoided talking in class at all costs. The fewer boys looked at her, the fewer problems she would have with girls like Caroline Forbes. But once her 16th birthday passed, everything changed.
Kiara found herself standing in front of the mirror, like Tobey Maguire in Spiderman, trying to understand how she looked so different and fighting a hunger she couldn't explain. Her red hair suddenly required no product to calm it, her light green eyes sparkled without the sun, and her body had generously filled out overnight. She looked just like her mother, or rather the photos she had seen of her mother. If it weren't for the couple of photos she had of her mother, Kiara wouldn't even remember what she looked like.
Kiara's father was a difficult man. Dangerous even. He kept Kiara's mother under his careful control and when she got sick, it only got worse. Kiara couldn't remember a time when her mother wasn't sick and so she never knew a time when her father was happy. Even worse, he seemed to blame her for her mother's illness. Everything Kiara did upset him and when her mother passed away, his hate for her took a violent turn.
Holly James, once her mother's closest friend, helped Kiara escape. Kiara didn't remember her mother ever mentioning her, but she didn't spend much time with her mother when she was growing up. Her father didn't let her. Although Kiara and Holly didn't meet until Mirebelle Carter passed away, they grew close in the four years they had lived together. Their first year together, they moved all over the United States. Neither of them felt safe enough to settle down anywhere. The fear that her father was around every corner never seemed to leave their minds. Finally, they settled in Mystic Falls after Holly met a witch named Sheila Bennett who performed a cloaking spell for them.
It's possible that Kiara may have remained unnoticed by the supernatural creatures in town if she hadn't run into Elijah Mikaelson while she was on a walk one fateful night. But something told her she would have met the vampire at some point no matter what.
No one can fight destiny.
