Clocktower, Night
Oliver found himself thinking about the night of his mother's death, he imagined freeing himself from Slade's restraints somehow. In that instant, he would stop Slade from killing his mother with his sword and repeatedly slugged him in the face. After getting off Slade, Oliver would've hugged her in comfort and relief. Then as Slade would start to get to his feet, Oliver would grab Slade's gun, which he had dropped when Oliver had tackled him. Grabbing it, Oliver shot Slade on the ground over and over again until he was dead.
"Oliver?" Dig said snapping Oliver out of his thoughts. "Oliver, man, you okay?"
Turning around, Oliver saw Felicity, Diggle, and Roy; who was still unconscious after being injected with the Mirakuru cure. "The cure's not working," Oliver noted in disappointment.
"We don't know that," Felicity said turning to him. "He still has a lot of animal tranquilizer in his system." She mentioned, immediately an alerting sound caught their attention forcing them into action.
"What's that?" Dig asked.
"Proximity alarm," Felicity answered. "I rigged the tower with sensors in case Slade's goons came here to kill us." After explaining she looked at her computer tablet, checking the building's schematics, and thermal imaging saw multiple thugs on the staircase. "Slade's goons are here to kill us." She told them as the Mirakuru soldiers began quickly running up the staircase.
"Talk to me, Felicity," Oliver asked urgently as he grabbed his bow.
"They're inside. They're right underneath us." Felicity explained.
"Urgh." Oliver and Dig heard the grunt and saw that it was Roy, back on his feet. "Where am I?" He asked.
But before they could answer, a soldier had appeared from under the floor. Seeing the soldier wear a mask just like Slade's, Roy punched him in the face. But his punch did nothing to the soldier, in fact, it had hurt Roy himself; his strength was gone. Quickly, the soldier had swept Roy off his feet with his arm but Oliver rushed the grunt and kicked him in the face and immediately shut the door to the staircase. However, another soldier grabbed Felicity's leg from a hole under the floor causing her to scream in terror.
"Felicity!" Dig said then shot the soldier to get him off her.
Firing a grappling arrow, outside the clocktower, Oliver addressed his team. "Down the cable. Go!" He ordered.
Roy sled down first and Dig who grabbed the S.T.A.R. Labs briefcase with the cure went second. As Felicity was about to go next, the soldier from before appeared again. Striking the soldier in his throat with his bow, Oliver then grabbed Felicity, and the two sled down together. However, once the team landed on the ground they saw a helicopter flying above the clocktower. Turning its attention to the soldiers still inside, a missile that was then fired which destroyed the clocktower and the soldiers still inside it. It was Lyla Michaels holding a bazooka and Dig smiled as he saw his girlfriend/ex-wife offering them a ride to safety.
Arrowcave Bunker
As Star City's streets were becoming more chaotic and blood-ridden, Lyla had brought the team to the foundry. Where she, Oliver, Dig, Felicity, and Roy saw their base completely trashed. "Oh, my god." Felicity gasped.
"What the hell happened?" Roy asked bewildered.
"Slade's army. You were right, this place is compromised." Dig filled everyone in.
"Lyla your boss is gonna bomb the city at dawn." Oliver turned to address Lyla.
"Why do you think I'm here?" Lyla brought up.
"Wait, you knew Waller was looking to level the city and you came here anyway?" Dig asked.
"You're here." She replied and Dig was touch despite the incredibly dire circumstances.
"You need to go back to ARGUS. You need to stop Waller or buy us enough time to stop Slade." Oliver ordered her.
"Yeah, Waller's never seen a problem she didn't think couldn't be solved with a drone strike," Dig remarked.
"On it." She agreed.
"Yeah, not without me." Dig commented. "Til death do us part, right."
"This time it might." She noted.
"Guys?" Oliver said catching Felicity and Roy's attention. "I need you to scrounge as many weapons as you can, especially injection arrows. We're gonna fill them with the cure, which clearly works." He said referring to Roy's current condition. "And this ends tonight, without killing. There's been enough death already." He said wryly and his mind flashed back to the night of his mother's murder.
Train Station
As Thea had shot Malcolm, he had dropped dead. Leaving Thea horrified and crying, as she dropped the gun. Still in shock, she began slowly walking away whimpering but heard his voice once more that brought her to a halt. "Thea." Getting up, Malcolm walked towards her clutching his chest. "It's called Kevlar," Malcolm said sarcastically as he showed her the bullet before dropping it.
"If you're gonna kill me, just get it over with," Thea said tiredly.
"Kill you? Why? Because you shot me? I'm glad you did." He revealed.
"You're sick." She remarked in surprise.
"Perhaps. How else to explain the fact that not a year ago your brother held a gun to my face as well?" He recalled.
"Tommy?" She muttered.
"He lacked the conviction ... the strength to pull the trigger, but not you, Thea. You are made of iron. You are truly my daughter, and I could not be more proud." He acknowledged.
"No." She shrugged walking away from him, as he looked on.
SCPD HQ
"Remember you're training. You be smart, you take clean shots, and you don't miss the-" Quentin addressed his men as he started handing out firearms to them but was interrupted by what he had heard on the police radio. From what they were hearing, SWAT was being decimated by the masked psychos at City Hall and Quentin noticed the dreaded silence his officers were giving off. "Okay, listen, I know you're scared. You wouldn't be human if you weren't. But tonight, this city, our city ... it's counting on each and every one of you ... so you go out there and be the heroes I know you all to be. Go." He ordered and the cops scattered to protect their falling city.
"So that's where she got her way with words." Sin replied as she was listening to his speech the whole time.
"Where's Laurel?" Quentin asked her.
"Detective?" An officer addressed him getting his attention. "I've got one PP on the line with Lieutenant Pike in the field. You're the ranking officer." She told him.
"I'll go find Laurel." Sin told.
"Okay. Hey! Don't step a foot outside this precinct, you got it?" He told her.
"This might be the first time I'll actually listen to a cop." Sin remarked as she left Quentin to deal with the situation. Walking out of the room, she saw Laurel on a bench with a laptop. "Your Dad's looking for you." She told her. "What are you doing?"
"Reviewing surveillance footage," Laurel answered.
"Since when do you know how to hack?" Sin asked surprised.
"My friend Felicity gave me a few tips," Laurel answered. "So that's where you've been hiding." She said under her breath then immediately beeped her phone. It was a text from Felicity telling her that "We have the cure. It works. Get here ASAP." "I've got to go. Tell my dad, I'm going to meet the Green Arrow." She said giving her a quick hug goodbye.
Arrowcave Bunker
Felicity was working on placing the cure in the injection arrows that she had prepared as Roy was helping her out. "Well, it seems like I missed a lot," Roy noted.
"Well, what do you remember?" Felicity asked cautiously.
"Leaving town and heading to Bludhaven." He answered. "Was I out cold the whole? Felicity."
"You were out. The whole time." She lied thinking now is not the time for him to hear everything he did under the Mirakuru's influence as she gave him the injection arrow.
Laurel came down the staircase when the sparks began flying, shaking her slightly. "Ollie!" She spoke up getting his attention.
"Laurel," Oliver said and walked over to hug her, but soon part once she saw Roy wide awake.
"Roy? You okay?" Laurel asked.
"I think so?" Roy answered still rather unsure.
"In case you haven't guessed, the cure works," Oliver said drawing her attention back to him. "Now we just need to find Slade's base of operations."
"Slade Wilson is using Queen Consolidated as his base of operations," Laurel told him.
"How do you know that?" Lyla asked her.
"I checked Sebastian's itinerary. For the last month, he's made a couple of trips to QC to visit Isabel Rochev who also works with Slade." Laurel explained. "Slade's there. But that solves only one of our problems."
"Laurel's right. Slade has a least 50 human weapons." Dig agreed that Slade had them outnumbered.
"SCPD can't help us. They're too focused on damage control, and what's left of SWAT isn't much." Laurel informed them.
"We need a whole army if we plan on hitting them with the cure." Dig agreed as told everyone.
"Or," Oliver said pausing for a moment, an idea occurred to Oliver but with the city on the brink of destruction at either Slade or Amanda's hands; he was that desperate enough. "We need a squad." He finished and both Diggle and Lyla looked at Oliver knowing exactly what he was suggesting.
At ARGUS HQ, Waller waited for the drone to arrive in Star City. Immediately her phone rang and knew it was Oliver. "If you're calling to change my mind, you should better than that Oliver," Waller said coldly.
"Oh, I do Amanda," Oliver replied angrily as he began to pace around the remains of his bunker as his team watched on. "I just tested the cure. It works, no trace of the Mirakuru."
"That's good news, sadly it doesn't change anything." She told him.
"I'd figured it wouldn't. I don't have enough manpower to use the cure on Slade's forces. But you do. I need the Suicide Squad." He requested.
"I see Mr. Diggle isn't above sharing top-secret security information with you." She noted almost sarcastically. "And why should I give them to you?"
"Because they're expendable to you just like everyone else. The only difference is that you can justify it on paper." He reminded her. "Task Force X has Ben Turner, whose good enough to hold his on against me. And, Floyd Lawton is one of the best sharpshooters I've ever seen. I need them and anyone else armed with weapons built for carrying sedatives immediately."
"That still doesn't mean-"
"Amanda!" He cut her off in a hostile tone. "You are going to give them to me to command, otherwise I will use everything that I know about you to make sure that if you survive tomorrow that not only will not be the director of ARGUS, you will be thrown in the darkest cell the US government can find for you." He threatened her and let the information sit for a moment, it unnerved her slightly over the phone. "Now give me the Suicide Squad!"
"They'll be outside your sister's nightclub in less than an hour." She agreed. "We have some new members too, including one you're very familiar with. But this doesn't change anything Oliver, you have until 6 am before the drone destroys Star City." She informed him as he then hung up.
Outside Verdant
Less than an hour a heavily armored van arrived in front of Verdant and in front of Dig, Laurel, and Oliver; with the latter two still in their respective vigilante attire. The driver exited the van and walked over to the Green Arrow. "From Amanda Waller." The driver said giving the vigilante a remote control device. "This is to set off the bombs inside there spines in case they get out of line."
"Never thought I'd work for the guy who sent me prison." Ben Turner, the Bronze Tiger, expressed as he got out of the van. "Twice."
"Did 'ya miss me, John?" Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot said following behind Turner up to Diggle.
"We both know the answer to that question," Dig said sardonically to his brother's killer.
Four other men followed as well none that Oliver was familiar with but fifth, a woman, he familiar with on an intimate level. "Gotta say, it's gonna be fun working with you again, Arrow." Helena Bertinelli, the Huntress, stated dressed in her outfit with her crossbow in hand.
The others were a little surprised to her, Oliver particularly. "So Waller offered a position on the squad?" Oliver guessed.
"I complete enough missions, I'll earn myself a pardon," Helena told them.
"That is if you don't get killed first." Turner joked grimly.
"Wouldn't want that." Laurel sassed and caught Helena's eye. Going up to the masked blonde away from others' hearing, Helena heard that Oliver had a new "partner" and had an idea of who this was. "The Black Canary, right? Are you who I think you are?"
"If you're asking if I'm the woman who sent your ass to prison, then yes, yes I am." Laurel snarked not bothering to deny her identity.
"Oliver sure likes to dress up his girls," Helena commented with a smirk, low enough so no one else could hear.
"Alright, listen up!" Oliver shouted loudly with his modulated voice. "The men that terrorizing this city are on something that makes them stronger, faster, and more difficult to kill than you have ever seen. Your weapons are now armed with a cure to their abilities. Tonight you follow my orders, which means we do this my way. No killing."
"Yeah, sure, take the fun out of it." Lawton joked.
"Waller, gave me this device so that I could use to keep you in line," Oliver told Deadshot getting up in his face, showing him the said device. "But that won't matter because Waller has authorized a drone strike on this city that'll kill everyone before daybreak to stop the threat." He revealed.
"Well, that's overkill. And coming from me, that's saying something." Helena mentioned.
"We need to stop them before that happens. No one else dies tonight!" Oliver reaffirmed as he left to get one more soldier.
Arrowcave Bunker
Meeting Roy down in the bunker, Oliver grabbed what he had been keeping for him at a shelf next to Roy. "How are you feeling?" Oliver asked as he got next to him.
"Ready to serve up some payback," Roy answered putting an arrow down.
"Then remember your training," Oliver said handing out a box for him. "Remember everything that you've learned."
Taking the box, Roy saw that it was a red domino mask inside it. "Are you for real?" He asked Oliver.
"Someone ... a friend ... once told me if you survive a crucible, you grow the stronger for it." Oliver said quoting Sebastian. "This is to remind you of that."
"What happened to Thea? Is she okay?" Roy asked as Oliver turned around.
"She's fine. She was headed out of the city before this started." Oliver reassured him and left for the assault on his family's company. Wanting to make sure Thea was out of the city, Roy decided to call her.
Train Station
"Thea, it's dangerous out there," Malcolm told her as she was walking in front of him.
"Better than here with my psycho-villain dad who's happy I tried to kill him." Thea snarked still surprised by that when her cell phone began ringing, pulling it out of her jacket she saw that it was Roy and immediately answered. "Roy?"
"Yeah, it's me. I just wanted to make sure you were all right." He explained.
"Uh ... I'm fine." She said reluctantly. "I'm at the train station."
"Thea, listen to me. You're not safe there." He told her. "Can you please meet me at my place?"
"I'll be there. As soon as I can." She answered after a brief pause.
"Okay. Be safe." He said as she then hung up.
"Who was that?" Malcolm asked standing next to her. "Roy?" He said and Thea wondered how he could have known about him. "You're my daughter. There's not much I don't know about you. Interesting how you'd run back to him after resolving to run away to escape all the lies and half-truths." He reminded her as she breathed deeply. "He's no different Thea. No different from your mother or Oliver. If you don't believe me ... then you should go to him." He suggested.
"I will." She agreed. "And if you try to follow me, I'll shoot you again." She threatened as she walked away.
"Hmm." He said to himself with a smirk. "When you need me, I'll be there." He told her as she continued walking.
Queen Consolidated
As a Mirakuru soldier was on patrol, the elevator door opened up and he saw two of his fellow soldiers out cold with arrows in them. Walking closer to the door, Laurel dropped down and stabbed the soldier with an injection arrow in his leg which immediately depowered him and rendered him unconscious. Getting to her feet, Laurel looked around and saw nothing. "Elevator bank's clear." She said on comms.
In the conference room, Oliver fired an arrow into the soldier taking him out with the cure while he engaged two others in combat. Blocking their strikes with his bow, Oliver then used the arrow in his other hand to inject the cure into them which ended the fight. "Conference room's clear." Oliver addressed them on comms. Walking forward, Oliver then saw Slade and Isabel in their armor, along with several other Mirakuru soldiers. Laurel soon followed, pulling out her tonfa.
"You must have quite a bit of faith in this cure if you've come alone," Slade noted.
"We didn't come alone." Oliver corrected him.
With that Turner, Helena, and Lawton burst through the outside windows and immediately began dealing with Slade's soldiers. While Turner engaged the soldiers in close combat with the injection arrows that were given to him, Helena and Lawton fired at them with their crossbow and wrist-mounted gun, respectively, each loaded with the cure. With his soldiers out of his way, Oliver fired three arrows at Slade. Two of which bounced off his armor and the third deflected by his katana. At the same time, Isabel engaged Laurel in battle, pulling out her twin swords to attack while Laurel defended herself with her tonfa. As Lawton finished taking care of the others, Slade went to stab him with his sword but was blocked by Turner using his blade claws. Using his claws, Turner blocked one sword strike after another from Slade, forcing Oliver to intervene.
Her tonfa now a bo-staff, Laurel was having a hard time holding off Isabel because unlike the other Mirakuru soldiers she had fought; Isabel actually had combat skills. Their weapons deadlock against each other, Helena decided to cut into the fight, kicking Isabel right in her side with her foot. Pulling a cross-bolt with the cure in it, Helena moved to use it against Isabel but couldn't because she was evading her swords strikes. But while Isabel was focused on Helena, she neglected Laurel, who struck her in the gut with her staff and quickly tripped with her's staff's handle. Seeing an opportunity, as Isabel got up, Helena stabbed Isabel in her ribcage with the cure and kicked the depowered CEO on her knees. After ripping off her mask, Laurel saw Oliver having trouble with Slade and went to help. "Watch her." She told Helena.
As Turner and Oliver worked in conjunction to inject Slade with the cure, Slade grabbed Oliver and throw him over his shoulder against the back. Turner went to stab him with his claws but Slade just allowed the claw to go through his hand. Clutching his fist, Slade bent it backward, causing Turner agony as he fell to his knees. Just as Slade was about to impale him, Laurel blocked his sword with her tonfa. Pulling out injection arrow, Laurel went to stab Slade but he grabbed her wrist and twisted it, causing her weapon to drop. Knocking her out with a headbutt to her face, Slade then grabbed Laurel and put her over his shoulder. Oliver then watched as Slade exited the building through a window and got up to see him slide down a cable line with Laurel.
Frustrated by this recent event, Oliver looked in front of him and saw Isabel on her knees with Helena standing behind her. Looking at Oliver, Isabel still maintained her smugness. "Kill me. Don't kill me. Doesn't matter. I beat you. I took away the one-" But her sentence was cut short as Helena snapped her neck with her hands. Angered, Oliver aimed an arrow at her, just as Lawton aimed his gun at him.
"I said no killing!" Oliver reminded her.
"She needed to die and you know that. You know despite all your so-called restraint back then, at least you were willing to what was necessary back then. Maybe the fact that your no longer willing is why your city burns." Helena stated and walked away, as Oliver lowered his weapon huffing that she was probably right.
"I shot him twice, so did you, his armor's too strong," Lawton told the Green Arrow as he walked to him. "And neither you nor Tiger got the chance to stab him."
"I can't get him from a distance or up-close. I can't figure out how to give him the cure." Oliver stated.
"Well you need to figure out something, otherwise your canary isn't gonna be singing for much longer," Lawton told him grimly.
ARGUS HQ
"Drone's locked on target. Star City." The ARGUS agent told Amanda Waller. As the drone flew over the ocean with the city in its sights.
Queen Consolidated
Quentin arrived at Queen Consolidated with Felicity escorting him to, she had also informed him that Slade took Laurel during the fight. "So, Laurel was still alive when Slade took her?" Quentin asked as they paced.
"Yeah, Oliver believes that Slade will keep her alive for now if that helps." Felicity tried poorly to comfort him.
"It doesn't," Quentin said flatly. As Felicity escorted him to the office, Quentin saw Deadshot and the Huntress and pulled out his gun aiming it at them. "What the hell are they doing here!" He said angrily.
"They're here to help, believe it or not," Felicity told him getting in his way trying to stop him.
"Yeah, tonight we're the good guys." Lawton joked.
"I guess today I'll have to work with anybody who can help get my daughter back," Quentin remarked holstering his weapon.
"The Black Canary's your daughter?" Lawton asked with interest.
"Uh, crap," Quentin said pissed at himself.
"Oops," Helena remarked.
"Ooh, we have a new big problem ... which, considering our problems, is saying something." Felicity said looking at her tablet. "I hacked a satellite and tasked it for thermographic imaging. All of Slade's men are at the Giordano Tunnel." She showed them on the tablet.
"I thought these guys were trying to destroy the city." Quentin
"ARGUS is gonna level the city to stop them from getting out," Oliver said catching Quentin off guard. "It's what Slade's planning on. He knows Waller's tactics."
"Fortunately, with Slade's men attempting to leave via the tunnel all our targets will be grouped in a single place. It'll be like shooting fish in a barrel." Lawton commented.
"We need to take it. Gather the others." Oliver ordered them as Helena and Lawton left the office.
"What about Laurel?" Quentin asked worriedly. "Wilson took her for a reason."
"I know what it is. But the city comes first." Oliver said looking outside. "She would say the same thing.
"This is my daughter. This is the woman you love. You can't just leave her like this!" Quentin expressed erratically.
"I know Quentin!" Oliver snapped at him, as he worried for Laurel too.
"Do you? According to you, according to Laurel, Slade killed Sara. He took one daughter away from me ... no matter what don't let him take another." Quentin desperately pleaded as Oliver and Felicity listened on. "Look, I know you said you were trying another way, and I respect that ... but Slade Wilson, his men, they're monsters. And monsters, they need to be destroyed. You've killed before. Tonight I suggest you get back in the habit." He left the office to go to the tunnel as Oliver contemplated everything he had said.
"He's wrong," Felicity spoke up.
"He's right." Oliver acknowledged. "I've lost everything because I'm fighting Slade Wilson with one hand tied behind my back. The man murdered my mother. I have to kill him."
"You told me you had a choice," Felicity said getting up close to him. "That you could've cured Slade, but you chose to kill him. This isn't happening because you're not willing to be a killer. It's happening because you were one."
"You're right. That's how this started. It's how it has to end." He told her. "The only move that's he left me is to kill him. I can't cure him, can't capture him. I can't even outthink him." He expressed his desperation and frustration all too obvious.
"Then don't. Don't." She began to stutter and then looked for a moment. "Just make him outthink you." She suggested and gradually an Oliver started to form in Oliver's mind.
Roy Harper's Home
Roy watched the news on his tv, when just then Thea walked into his house. Turning the tv off, the two young lovers gazed at each other like they hadn't seen one another in ages. "I'm sorry." Roy just brought up. "I'm sorry for everything. I -" He tried to say but Thea just backed away from him still a little scared from the last incident. "No, it's okay. I know, I know I haven't been exactly been myself for the past few months ... but I was, I was injected."
"With some drug." Thea finished for him. "I know. Sin told me. But are you okay now?"
"Yeah. I'm fine." He answered. "I woke up here. I'd lost a lot of time, but ..."
"And what about the Green Arrow? He ... he said he was gonna take care of you?" She asked nervously.
"I don't know anything about the Green Arrow." He lied. "I'm done with all of that, I ... You're the only person that I've ever cared about." Causing her to hug him tightly, as they parted he noticed something was off with her. "Are you okay? Did something happen to you?"
"It doesn't matter. Look, let's just, let's just get out of here. Let's start over. We can be whoever we want to without anyone getting in our way." She basically begged from him.
"I'm never losing you again." He said as the two then kissed, immediately after Roy's phone buzzed it was a text from Felicity telling him that they need him. "Uh, there's just ... there's just one thing I need to take care of before we go, okay?" He said reluctantly and sat her down on the couch. "Stay here, get some stuff packed, and I'll be right back."
"No, Roy. It's dangerous out there." She reminded him.
"I know. But I have to do this. I wouldn't feel right if I left without trying." He told her. "Do you trust me?"
"Yes." She nodded.
"Then when I get back, we're getting out of her forever. I love you." He told her and kissed her goodbye as he left to go help save the city.
Queen Mansion
"Oliver, what are we doing here?" Felicity asked as they walked into his mansion. "The whole city's falling apart."
"I know." He said after shutting the door and they walked a little further into the mansion. "You need to stay here."
"What?" She said stunned. "Why? You can't just ask me -"
"I'm not asking." He said cutting her off. "I will come get you when this over."
"No." She refused as he was about to leave.
"Felicity."
"No, not unless you tell me why." She said following him.
"Because I need you to be safe." He explained in a strong tone.
"I don't want to be safe. I want to be with you, and the others, unsafe." He stated softly.
"I can't let that happen." He refused her.
"Oliver ... you're not making any sense." She said touching his arm.
Pausing for a moment, Oliver eventually spoke. "Slade took Laurel because he wants to kill the woman I love." He explained.
"I know, so-"
"So he chose the wrong woman." He cut her off, and slowly but suddenly it dawned on her.
"Oh?" She could only mutter as Felicity began to understand what he meant.
"Felicity ... I love you." He told her. In one of the few moments of her life, Felicity Smoak was speechless. Slowly, Oliver got closer to her face and gave her a slow but deep kiss; which she enjoyed and felt his hand grasp her's tight. "Do you understand?" He asked of her hoping she got the message.
"Yes." She said slowly, as Oliver left her alone in the mansion.
Slade's Location
Slowly, Laurel started coming too. Regaining consciousness, Laurel struggled but found herself chained handcuffed around a metal object; judging from her surroundings Laurel was in some kind of factory, and on her face, she felt her mask and wig were still on. "You're awake." A raspy voice said and Laurel that it was Slade with his back turn against her. "Good ... I wanted you to be for what comes next." He facing her.
Struggling with cuffs, Laurel was stuck where she was and began breathing heavily in anger. "What comes next ... is your death. Cause if Oliver doesn't kill you I will. For what you've done to this city ... to Moira ... to my sister!" Laurel said furiously.
"Oliver is just as responsible for her death as I am. Even more so. Just as he is for Shado." He told her, then crouched down looking her in the eyes. "Tell me ... did he reveal to you just how "close" he Shado and were? Or did he keep that a secret from you as well."
Laurel did know about Oliver and Shado, something she had mixed feelings about but that didn't matter right now; she couldn't let Slade mess with her head right now. "You know Oliver told me you were friends once. That the Mirakuru made you into this ... this monster." She said ignoring his previous statement.
"Perhaps, but even before the Mirakuru. I was not the kind of man who tolerated those who betrayed me." He told her remembering Billy Wintergreen.
"Ever hear of forgiveness?" She said with some sass.
"Yes, and he does not deserve it." He replied. "Not from me ... or from you. I imagined he never told you how Sara died, did he?" He asked and Laurel's silence confirmed his suspicions. "The water dragged Sara from the AMAZO, the ship we were all on." He clarified and walked around as he recounted the tale. "Drowning ... is quite frightening, to be so deep in the water and in darkness, to gasp for breath but never able to. I imagine Sara was quite terrified in her final moments." He stated and Laurel jerked trying to get to him in anger and grief. "And ... after that, you still forgave for his betrayal. I wonder, can you do it a second time?"
"What do you mean by that?" She asked and Slade's mouth crooked into a smug grin.
ARGUS HQ
Outside her workplace, Lyla and Dig jogged up to the entry point. "Johnny," Lyla said.
"Yeah," Dig said.
"Never mind," Lyla said with a smile, thinking she can tell me later.
"Hey, Lyla. I love you. You know that, right?" He asked her.
"I do, actually." She replied. "It's good to hear it." Finishing their chat, Lyla swiped her security card and two entered the building.
In the mission control room, Waller asked for an update. "Time to impact?"
"Drone is 52 minutes from the target." The agent answered.
"Get me, Sergeant Gomez," Waller asked.
"Uh ... Easy Company's not responding." The agent realized on her station, as the comm system was down.
"I need a visual," Waller said urgently.
"They're in a tunnel, I can't get a visual." The agent answered.
"What the hell is going on in that tunnel? Waller said angrily.
Giordano Tunnel
"Sergeant Gomez? Come in, Sergeant Gomez." Waller said over the radio not knowing that Gomez and his men were already killed by Slade's army.
Just as Lawton said all of Slade's forces were gathered into a small location, as Oliver, Roy, Helena, Turner, Lawton, and other members of the Squad speed-walked together to end Slade's army. "No kill shots. Let the cure do its work." Oliver ordered them and the Mirakuru soldiers caught them in their sights and charged at them. "Ready!" He yelled as they were getting closer. "Ready!" Roy took a brief look at Helena, as he was nervous. "Ready! Fire." He ordered and fired the first arrow as his group charged. Lawton stayed behind as he fired from his long-range dart rifle from the top of a car. Helena decided to cover him with her crossbow, while Roy and Oliver charged into the swarm of soldiers; Turner followed them as he and Oliver stabbed the soldiers with injection arrows.
As the fight continued, a masked Roy Harper dealt with Mirakuru soldiers on his own. Dodging the attack from one, he push kicked another out his way. Oliver was busy, stabbing one soldier with an injection arrow after another. Turner dropped low and performed a sweep kick on one soldier then injected him with the cure, while Lawton covered for Turner, shooting in the coming soldier with cure dart. Just as Helena hit another with a cross-bolt, a soldier grabbed her in front but so did she. Immediately gripping his shoulders, she put her right leg behind his and threw him to the ground then shot him with her crossbow. Getting a feeling for this, Roy stabbed a soldier with an arrow and spin around him to fire another one into his new target.
Eventually, a soldier grabbed Helena from behind in a bear hug; something Oliver took notice of. "Helena!" Oliver shouted but she was saved by Quentin who stabbed the soldier with the cure. Both Helena and Quentin gave each other a nod, despite the fact she had kidnapped his daughter a few months ago. Returning to fight Oliver stabbed his current target, and kicked him off of him to move to the next.
ARGUS HQ
Dig and Lyla walked to the cell room where the Suicide Squad was kept and a group of 5 agents had waited for them. "This is all of you?" Lyla asked.
"Yes ma'am." A male agent said.
"You sure we can trust these guys Lyla?" Dig asked.
"You're not the only one who has a problem with Amanda Waller, Johnny," Lyla said handing out weapons to each of them. "Let's move."
Roy's House
Packing for their leave, Thea went through Roy's drawers and basically emptied it completely. As she went through another, she dropped a piece of clothing. But as she dropped to get it, she found something under Roy's bed. Getting it she found a rolled-up piece of cloth and as she unfolded it on the bed, she saw there was a red recurve bow and green-tipped arrows; exactly the same ones that the Green Arrow used. Malcolm was right, just like her mother, her brother; Roy had been lying to her as well.
ARGUS HQ
"Prep the drone to fire," Waller ordered her soldier from the control room.
"Weapons hot was set for 0600." The agent turned to reminded her superior.
"Prep the drone to fire," Waller repeated in a more hostile tone.
Suddenly, gunshots were heard as agents were taken down non-fatally. "Down, now!" An agent said as he, Dig, Lyla, and the others entered in. With the unarmed agents doing as they're told.
"Everybody get down! Down, down!" Dig yelled and Waller did just that only to pull out two guns of her own aimed at both Dig and Lyla. "Waller, call that drone off." He ordered as he and Lyla aimed their weapons at her.
"This is treason, Agent Michaels." Waller looked at her ignoring Dig. "Treason that risks hundreds of thousands of lives. Have you thought about that? Have you thought about how you're going to explain that to your son?" Lyla was stunned that she knew. "Or is it your daughter? Did the doctor specify or did you want to keep it a surprise? Congratulations, Mr. Diggle, you're going to be a father." She told a stunned Dig, surprised by Lyla's pregnancy.
Tunnel
With Quentin's arrival, Oliver, the Suicide Squad, and the remainder of SCPD's SWAT unit were able to deal with the last of the soldiers as they began collapsing on the ground stripped of their abilities. On the roof of a car, Oliver pressed the commlink on his suit hoping to speak to Dig. "Go."
"You've been busy, kid." Slade acknowledged aware of the events.
"It's over, Slade. Your army is broken." Oliver told him.
"And I pity them. But once again, you missed the point." Slade walked around in another location. "I have the one you love. You're going to meet me where I say. Otherwise, I am going to kill her."
"No, I've had enough of this! I'm done playing your games!" Oliver said fed up with everything.
"You're done when I say you're done!" Slade viciously told him. "I was surprised. I thought you had a thing for stronger women. But now that I've met her ... I can see the appeal. She is quite lovely ... your Felicity." He said unsheathing his sword and turned around as a Mirakuru had Felicity by her arms as Oliver grew afraid.
Abandon Factory
Not knowing the drone had arrived at Star City, Oliver notching an arrow ready to fire as he cautiously moved around the location that Slade told him about. "Twitch and I will open your throat." Slade's voice echoed through the factory as he knew Oliver had arrived. "My first words to you. Do you remember?" He asked as Oliver followed the sound of his voice. "I do. I remember the exact moment. My blade against your neck just like my blade is against the neck of your beloved." He revealed trying to throw Oliver off his game. "If only I'd killed you then everything would be different." Oliver raised his notched bow and pointed it at Slade, holding Felicity with his sword against her neck just as he said.
"Drop the bow, kid," Slade ordered him as Oliver moved slowly. "Do it." He asked pressing the blade harder against Felicity's throat. Reluctantly, Oliver obeyed and slowly placed his bow on the ground. Soon after, Oliver heard Laurel grunting as another soldier dragged her next to Felicity and Slade; holding her with his enhanced strength. Once again, Slade had recreated the same horrific situation that Ivo had created. "Yes, countless nights dreaming ... of taking from you all that you took from me." He said reaching his end goal.
"By killing the woman I love?" Oliver asked rhetorically.
"Yes," Slade answered.
"Like you loved Shado," Oliver stated.
"Yes," Slade said lowly.
"You see her ... don't you?" Oliver asked as he finally realized that Slade has been hallucinating Shado this whole time. "Well, what does she look like in your madness, Slade?" He pressed and as Slade considered his grip loosened on Felicity as fell to her knees terrified, Slade's sword moving around her neck. "What does she say to you? I remember her being beautiful, young, kind. She would be horrified by what you've done in her name." He stated.
"What I have done? What I have done ... is what you lack the courage to do ... to fight for her!" Slade said bitterly and furiously as he got up to Oliver. "So ... when her body lies at your feet ... her blood wet against your skin ... then you will know how I feel!" He shouted heartbrokenly.
"I already know how you feel." Oliver countered. "I know what it's like to hate. To want revenge. And now I know how it feels ... to see my enemy so distracted ... that he doesn't see the real danger is right in front of him."
As Slade pulled Felicity back up again, she reached into her pocket to grab a syringe of the cure and jammed it into Slade's exposed neck. Watching Slade lose his abilities, Oliver recalled how before he went to meet Slade at the docks he had noticed the hidden audio and visual camera at his mansion's fireplace and realized that Slade was watching him the whole time since he came to the mansion the first time. Needing to get ahead of Slade, Oliver staged his "love confession" to Felicity as he gave her a syringe as he kissed her; knowing that Slade was watching them the entire time.
"Kill her!" Slade ordered his soldier to kill Laurel but immediately a dart filled with the cure was fired at the soldier by Quentin who snuck up behind them having arrived with Oliver. Free from her captor, Laurel elbowed the soldier in the face knocking him out.
"Get them out of here!" Oliver told Quentin and three left the factory, leaving Oliver and Slade to finish a blood feud that started 5 years ago. Grabbing his bow, Slade got to his feet and leaped into the air thrusting his sword which Oliver deflected with his bow. Trading blows as they moved, Oliver side kicked Slade through a glass window. Pressing on, Slade got up and swung his blade as Oliver spun around to dodge it and blocked the following sword strike with his bow. Seeing an opening, Slade kicked Oliver in his damaged knee causing the archer to hit the ground, blocking the sword with his bow once more, Slade then kicked Oliver hard in his chest.
Gradually, Oliver and Slade's fight dragged them outside to the roof. "The Mirakuru isn't what made me hate you!" Slade told Oliver as he pulled off his mask and hood. Swinging his sword, Oliver ducked his attack but Slade then grabbed him by the throat. Hearing the drone, Slade turned to see it fly above them. "The end is near. But maybe I'll be merciful enough to let you live and see your city burn!" Slade roared sadistically as Oliver began choking up. Eventually, escaping him, the two traded blows once again as they landed some solid hits on the other. Spinning around their weapons clashed, as Oliver push kicked Slade in the chest.
Their blows sending both on their backs, Oliver grunted in pain as they struggled to get up. "We both know there's only one way ... that this can end," Slade told him. "To beat me, kid, you're gonna have to kill me. But in the moment of my death ... you'll prove one thing." He continued as they were back on their feet. "That you are ... a murderer." He said as both he and Oliver yelled as they charged one another.
Oliver and knocked Slade off the roof and then leaped down to finish the fight. But by now they were both injured from the blows to their faces and both showing signs of fatigue. Slade from the effects of the sedative in the cure and Oliver from tonight's event. Crouching their backs the two waited to see who would make the first move and it was Oliver. Swinging his fist wildly, Slade ducked it and got around him. Punching Oliver hard in the face with a left hook, Slade followed through again causing Oliver to hit the support pillar behind him. Making the third attempt, Slade took a stab his sword but Oliver deflected it with his bow and got around him using his bow to hit him in his lower back. Now against the pillar, Oliver then notched and fired an ensnarement arrow that bound Slade; he then fired another ensnarement arrow that bound him to the pillar he was against.
As Oliver was tired and about to collapse, Slade spoke up. "You can kill me or not. Either way, I win." Slade said knowing the drone was still going to destroy the city.
ARGUS HQ
Still, in a standoff with Diggle and Lyla, Waller heard a message from an incoming comm link and reluctantly answered it. "Amanda it's over." Oliver told her. "Slade's down. His army's been taken out. Call back the drones." Dig moved slightly, forcing her to cooperate. "Amanda, it's over!" Oliver shouted. Believing Oliver, Waller laid her pistols down and deactivated the drone, sending it on a return path to home.
Abandon Factory
"So what now, kid?" Slade asked Oliver, who contemplated whether to kill him or not.
ARGUS HQ
With Slade's Siege over, the members of Task Force X went back into their cells. "Well, tonight was fun," Helena remarked as she walked into her cell back in her prison suit. "Exactly, how many years did we work off for saving an entire city?"
"Technically, none," Lyla answered her. "The mission was a demand from the Green Arrow, not an official ARGUS mission. Sorry."
"Great, I got a broken wrist for nothing," Turner said as his cell door was shut.
"Have to say, you don't look that disappointed Helena," Lyla said noting the expression on her face she looked, content.
"Guess not," Helena replied. "Maybe prison's making me soft. Funny I thought it did the opposite."
Closing her cell door, Lyla went to Lawton's next. "So, when should I expect to see you for our next suicide mission?" Lawton asked.
"Not for a while," Lyla answered. "I suspect at least nine months."
Roy's Home
"Thea?" Roy said entering his place. "Thea." He said again looking around for her but Roy looked on his bed and saw that she had found his bow and arrows from Oliver. He then saw a note that she had left for him and sat on the bed as he read it.
"Roy, I'm sorry. I made a mistake. I thought I could still be with you. I thought I could still be Thea Queen. But Thea Queen was trusting. And I don't trust you. Or anyone. Not anymore. Thea Queen was also weak, and no matter what it takes, I will be strong. Don't try to find me. You won't. Even I don't know where I'm going. I only know one thing. I am never coming back. Goodbye. Thea."
Roy then cried as he finished the letter and pulled out the mask in his pocket, looking at it he realized he still had something to hold on to and live for.
At daybreak, Thea walked towards a limo and got inside it as the driver held the door open for her. Across from her sat Malcolm, smiling that he now could have a relationship with his daughter.
Slade Wilson's cell, Daytime
Shuddering in pain, Slade came too. He noticed he was still alive, wearing prison clothes, and in a prison cell. "Where am I?" He said to himself but then turned around to see Oliver outside the cell setting on a stool.
"As far away from the world as I could get you," Oliver told him. "Where you can't hurt anyone ever again."
"That's your weakness, kid," Slade grunted in pain as he off his bed and on his feet. "You don't have the guts to kill me."
"No. I have the strength to let you live." Oliver corrected him.
"Oh, you're a killer," Slade remarked slowly moving around his cell. "I know. I created you. You've killed plenty."
"Yes, I have." Oliver agreed lowly. "You helped turn me into a killer when I needed to be one. And I'm alive today because of you. I made it home because of you." He said but slowly started to smile. "And I got to see my family again. To see Laurel again. But over the past year, I've needed to be more ... and I faltered. But then I stopped you ... without killing." Getting off the stool, Oliver got up to Slade's face. "You helped me become a hero, Slade. Thank you." He said then took his leave.
"You think I won't get out of here?" Slade told him shaking the bars of his cage as Oliver opened the door revealing they were in an AGRUS prison. "You think I won't kill those you care for?"
"No, I don't, because you're in purgatory," Oliver revealed to him, the one place he and Slade both equally hated and shut the door behind him for good.
"Well, I keep my promises, kid," Slade spoke loudly hoping Oliver could still hear him. "I keep my promises. I keep my promises."
Oliver tried and eventually succeeded in ignoring him. Climbing the ladder, Oliver exited the entry point of Slade's location and closed it shut.
As he looked ahead he saw Felicity and Diggle watching him from afar, with Laurel even further away next to their airplane.
"Last time I didn't notice it's actually kind of beautiful here," Felicity remarked as the three walked on the shores of the island. "Don't get me wrong. I'm counting down the seconds until we shove off Minefield Island."
"You think that'll be enough to hold him?" Dig asked Oliver. "ARGUS supermax?"
"Him and anyone else we send here," Oliver answered. "This battle may be over, but there will be others. Starting with getting my family's company back."
"That's not gonna be easy since you're poor now," Felicity mentioned. "You're gonna have to get a job. If Slade doesn't scare you, that's got to." She joked as she and Diggle smiled at it.
"Do you know anyone hiring ex-billionaires with superior archery skills?" Oliver quipped with a deep sigh.
"Hey, why don't I give you two a second?" Dig said as he moved ahead as things between the two have been different he noticed.
"Well, you did it." She mentioned once they were alone.
"I had help." He said.
"Yeah. It was really smart, the way you outfoxed him. Talk about unthinkable." She chuckled. "You and me, I mean ... when you told me you loved me, you had me fooled. For a second I thought maybe you might have meant it. What you said"
"I did mean it, Felicity." He told her and she looked stunned. "I do love you. Like family." He added at the last second and her stunned expression slowly faded, though a tiny part of her was disappointed. "And believe me ... there are times ... times were that's more important than the other kind of love."
"Yeah ... yeah, I guess so." She chuckled nervously. Looking over her shoulder, Oliver saw Laurel walking towards them.
"Uh, I gotta go." He told her and went to talk to her. "Hey." He said to her.
"Hey yourself," Laurel replied. "Just got off the phone with my dad. He's happy to know that Slade's behind bars, for good hopefully."
"Good." He said and Felicity past them to go to Dig's location.
"So, not to sound like a jealous bird ... or anything ... but do I have to worry about you too?" She asked a little worried.
"Uh, no, definitely not." He chuckled in amusement.
"You sure? Cause Felicity is pretty and smart, and funny. I could see why any guy could fall for her." She listened off. "Plus, you did kiss her. Did you have to kiss her?
"Probably not but ... I needed to sell it, to Slade I mean. He wanted to kill the woman I love, I needed to convince him that that he had wrong one when he had the right one from the start." He revealed and then moved to wrap his arms around her lower back. "But, um, considering our history and just so there's no confusion. Laurel ... you are the woman I love." He smiled which she returned with her own. "And next to Thea ... next to my sister, there is no one, no one I love more than you."
"Well, it never hurts to hear it." She chuckled feeling a little silly but that feeling quickly faded away as the two went into a long and deep kiss. "Let's go home." She said as they eventually parted, flashing her beautiful smile.
"Dig, what was the news about you and Lyla?" Oliver asked as the soldier who took a knee next to their plane as the archer and his songbird approached him.
"It can wait," Dig replied as he got up and Felicity who sat next to him followed.
"I'm flying," Oliver told him as he got upfront.
"Be my guest." Dig not arguing.
"I got one more question," Felicity asked.
"Wouldn't be you if you didn't," Oliver said with a smile.
"If you spent five years on this island, when did you learn how to fly?" She asked and both her, Dig and Laurel were curious about that too. Causing Oliver, to think back to when he first met Amanda Waller, in Hong Kong.
Author's Notes: When I began this story I realized that without Sara, the League of Assassins would not be able to help Oliver during the Siege so I started to wonder how would Oliver be able to beat Slade's army without a small army of his own. Enter the Suicide Squad who have individual skills that would be useful to Oliver at the time. As for Helena being a member of the Squad, this version of her would be a perfect fit for them and would be a tool for her to gain not only her freedom but her redemption as well. I added some of the deleted scenes from Season 2, such as Oliver imagining killing Slade to save his mom which I felt added to his struggle to maintain a no-kill policy during the finale. I also added the kiss scene between Oliver and Felicity, again to convince Slade not to cause drama between him and Laurel. PS: in retrospect, that scene was the beginning of the end for Arrow, or at the very least, it was what started a divide between fans of the show.
For future notice, I intend to do a rewritten version of Season 3 but I ask that you not expect it to appear anytime soon. This is because I feel like I would need a lot of time to do some major revisions of Season 3 for a different storyline and fit the changes to the show. Additionally, I have other projects I need and want to do outside Fanfiction, so far now I'll just focusing on one-shot stories for now. For those who are wondering, the revision will reintroduce Sara Lance as a member of the League of Assassins; with Ra's al Ghul the main antagonist. Also, I've been asked repeatedly if Laurel will get metahuman powers in this story as I showed her in Central City during the Dark Matter explosion in Chapter 9. My answer is yes she will get powers in the rewritten version of Season 3 and probably very early in the story.
I hope you enjoyed my rewrite of Arrow Season, thank you for reading, and please leave reviews.
