You know how this is going, a world where almost everyone had powers, from the strongest, to the most versatile and those that remain a spectacle to see even if they don't have much use in various situations. Quirk is the name of these skills. The villains and the vigilant emerged, who, after a long time would become heroes, thus beginning the race of heroism. Gradually the heroes began to be acclaimed throughout the world, they were seen as celebrities and admired as great figures of justice.
Therefore, many children wanted to become heroes someday, some came to achieve it, others changed their minds and chose another career.
A few simply couldn't. Remember when I said that almost everyone had powers? There are a percentage of people who don't have such ability, they are called quirkless, they were the norm at first, but today they are very rare to see. Sadly they are frowned upon, some believe that it's a disease that could infect their children, others as a curse given by the gods, some compare it to being invalid but even these had a quirk.
Our focus lies on a small quirkless who longed to be one of these so-called justices he admired.
"It's fine now. Why?"
One able to save with a smile while fighting without fear.
"Because I'm here!"
Just like him. The number one hero.
Unfortunately, at almost six years old, an age that was already enough to awaken his own power, he did not present such a thing, his parents took him to many doctors as they could, the result was the same.
"I'm sorry to inform your child don't possess quirk."
"I'm sorry, but your son is quirkless."
"Just give up."
The first two were normal. What else could they say? But the last one went deep into the little boy who saw his dream collapse, the mother could only see her son sadly while the father glared at the doctor with a fury that showed he wouldn't show mercy in reducing the doctor to ashes with his breath.
Now, in the darkness of his room, the boy repeated again and again the video of his idol on his computer, of him rescuing several people with a smile, while his parents watched from the door with no idea what to do in the face of the situation. The video started again. "He's great... always smiles... no matter what..." Such an amount of sadness in the voice of someone this young should be impossible, it broke the hearts of both parents, but what pulverized their souls was his face when he turned to them, an attempt to smile that at any moment was going to crumble was embodied in his lips and eyes were on the verge of crying. "Even... Even without a quirk... Can I be a hero?"
She wanted to go, hug him, cry and tell him how much she regretted that it had happened, as if it was her fault for her son's condition, but before she dared to take a step she was held by her husband which had a very serious face but his eyes had a flash of determination. Without saying something he walked to his son, knelt down to see him in the eyes, all this before the attentive gaze of his wife. Hisashi's voice was somewhat shaky from the emotions of today but stood firm.
He has to be firm, for his son.
"Izuku... son, you are a good boy, a very intelligent one, I... I've read those notebooks that you have and am surprised that you do those analyzes at your age and for yourself! Without any help, it's not as if I could provide much..."
He gave a small laugh trying to soften the atmosphere, put his hands on Izuku's shoulders and squeezed them a little, showed him a small but warm and affectionate smile.
"What I'm trying to say is... son, do you want to be a hero?
"I think you can be what you want."
"It will be difficult, like everything in life, but you don't have to fear. Why?"
He turned to look at his wife, Inko, and signal her to come, something she did, tears came from her green eyes, mostly out of sorrow knowing she thought about doing the opposite of what her husband was doing. Their son needed support right now.
"He is right, honey, I'm sure we'll find a way for you to be a hero, because..."
Already both in front of his son, who cried, not of sadness, but of relief and joy knowing that the most important people for him supported him. The family of three started a big hug and the parents said in unison:
"Because we are here, for you, Izuku."
On that night it didn't stop raining even when the sky was clear.
[Years later]
"So... Do you want to be a hero? A quirkless nobody?"
"Not this again..." It was Izuku's thought seeing that five boys, dressed in the same uniform as him, cornered him at the entrance of the tunnel that he was starting to use as a shortcut to home, they were taller than him and he didn't recognize them for some of his classmates, maybe they were from second or third year. Although one of them, with circular lenses and shaved hair, looked everywhere very nervous.
"Yin... this isn't a good idea. If someone discovers us?" His voice denoted concern. The newly named Yin, with long black hair held in a low ponytail and blue eyes, simply made a sound with his tongue that noted his irritation.
"Stop crying Sakami, nobody passes by, and it's not like someone is going to care what we do with our little quirkless friend here." He said the last thing with a mocking tone which Izuku had been already very used to this point. "Reiyi, Milo, holds him and Tsunotori, take his backpack, I want to see what he has." Before the green haired boy could protest his backpack was taken, his arms held and he was put against the wall with enough force for his back to hurt until tomorrow. His left was grabbed by a brown haired guy that only had one eye and his right by a boy whose skin was practically covered by electric blue tattoos. Who had his backpack had characteristics of a bull and was the most muscular and tall of the group. Yin began to rummage inside.
At this point Izuku just watched the ground as the most interesting thing in the world.
"Let's see... books, lunch, wallet... uh? What is this?" He asked curiously when he pulled out a gray notebook. "'Analysis of heroes for the future'?" He read the first pages and those were about some professional heroes, some that he had heard more than others, but what the quirkless wrote about them caught his attention, a small smile appeared on his face at his good idea. "We have a little genius here... so, Deku, if I remember correctly." Mentioning that nickname made him gain Izuku's attention again but this time he frowned a lot. Yin approached Izuku and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Deku, don't give me that look." That damn nickname again. "I propose this to you, Deku: you 'help' us to improve our qualifications and quirks and we will not harm you, it's more, you can be with us and nobody will put a finger on y-"
"Fuck you."
That stopped Yin for a moment, a silence fell on everyone, processing what the first year had said. Yin's smile was erased and replaced by a grimace of annoyance. Izuku didn't knew why he said that, perhaps because his classmates already forced him to did their homework or because he was tired of that stupid name. He chosed a bad time to be angry.
"…Can you repeat that? I think I didn't hear you."
"I said, fuck-" His sentence was interrupted by Yin's fist that hit his stomach and took the air from his lungs, followed by two others, on the right cheek and left eye. A small moan of pain went up his throat, but he pushed it back where it came from, he wouldn't give them that.
"I tried to be good, Deku." Shut up your damn mouth. "But apparently you need to learn what your place is." A more grim smile was reflected on his lips while a coppery orange covered his hands and arms. He grabbed Izuku's hair so his head was lifted a little. "Last opportunity, Deku. You just have to say 'I'm sorry' and we can finish with this." But he let out a sigh when he saw the only thing he received from him was silence and the angry look of the younger. "Shame." And, without guilt, he started beating Izuku in the stomach, chest and face, he didn't use much force to break some bone but he would make sure there were bruises. But Sakami's shout stoped him.
"Yin!" He was out of the tunnel and was looking up.
"What do you want?! I'm bus-" Suddenly something, no, someone fell into the tunnel entrance from above, was on their knees to cushion the fall, got up and they could see him better. Almost as tall as Tsunotori, with long silver hair that spikes upwards in two large prongs, golden eyes, wrinkled forehead and sharp features, was thin but had remarkable muscles, wore a simple black sleeveless shirt and loose white pants, he kept his hands in his pants pockets. "Who the hell are you and what do you want?" Yin wanted to avoid it but couldn't hide the fear this guy generated. Izuku was no better, even with the blows he could keep conscience and see the mysterious guy with a mixture of relief and terror. In the best case he would save him from the bullies, at worst he would join with Yin to grind him to death. Reiyi and Milo released Izuku by dropping him against the wall and putting themselves in fighting position just like Tsunotori. The young man spoke with a casual tone, but denoted a little menacingly.
"Me? I just passed by the place and I find a band of bastards who have nothing better to do than assault a brat."
"So? What are you going to do to help this shitty quirkless?"
The mention of the boy's lack of quirk seems to had caught the attention of the newcomer. "So is quirkless, that changes... a little the things." He said as he approached the four. The aura of fear suddenly disappeared. "Let me give you a hand." This eased Yin and filled the boy with fear.
"O-oh, okay dude, you can keep his money and lunch, just let me end-" He was interrupted by a blow to the left cheek that sent him against the Cyclops to everyone's surprise.
"I was talking with the brat, you idiot."
"Damn you!" The tattooed boy shouted, who concentrated electricity in his right fist with the intention of hitting, but before he reached his target he was hit in the nose, breaking it and received a kick in the right side of his chest with enough force to get him out of the tunnel for Sakami's terror. He turned to meet the bull boy's fist millimeters from the left side of his face, he received it completely which made his body turn. Using that same twist, the man struck him in the jaw, but didn't end there, he moved his hands in the most fluid way Izuku ever saw, the index and ring fingers stretched while the rest flexed, and say.
"Water stream rock smashing fist."
The following could only be described as a storm of merciless blows to the entire torso and then ended with a hook to the chin that sent Tsunotori to the other side of the tunnel, unconscious. The man, apparently without reacting to the blow they gave him, stood firm seeing that it ended. He turned to see a beaten, but surprised Midoriya who was starting to get up despite the pain. "Hey, brat are you-" He was interrupted by the boy's scream.
"WATCH OUT!"
From the corner of his eye, he could see how a pink flash appeared, he quickly backed down to dodge a laser that was fired from the eye of the cyclops.
"Shit..." It was Reiyi's complaint to see his attack failed, and if he wanted to do another one he would had to wait another two minutes. Yin was at his side holding the cheek that was hit. A growl of frustration escaped from him.
"Who the fuck are you? Why do you care so much about that quirkless loss-" He stifled a shout when he saw that for one second to another the guy was already in front of them, no, in front of him since Reiyi was unconscious by the blow he received and sent him a meter further.
"My name doesn't matter to you, but you can call me Garou, a monster." His tone was cold and the look he was throwing whispered 'you are next', his body was filled with fear due to the intimidating aura Garou emanated, his instincts told him to go away, some tears began to appear in his eyes.
"...I need an adult."
"..." A big, sinister smile appeared on the monster's face. "I'm an adult."
He wanted to run, run until his legs did not give more, whatever it was to get away from this guy, but someone from behind take him by the shoulder, made him turn around and the last thing he saw before the lights went out was Izuku's fist that hit it full in his face. Yin's unconscious body wobbled a little and fell to the ground like a dead weight and his nose bleeding at the Garou's somewhat surprised look, the boy was still in pain from the blows, but was able to walk and throw a fist. His forehead furrowed, how he clenched his teeth and his pupils were smaller than normal, showing how angry he was. He was breathing a little agitated. "Fuck... you"
"Good blow, brat, do you feel... okay?" He raised an eyebrow, not sure if he should ask something like that for the obvious answer.
"I had worse days... by the way, thanks mister..."
"Meika, that's my name and don't call me mister... Wasn't there someone with glasses outside?" Just noticed that someone was missing.
"He must leave to see how his... friends were beaten." He inhaled and exhaled a few times, calming down.
"Mm." It was the only thing he said, he looked back at the boy he just saved, black hair with green tips that gave him the appearance of a bush, green eyes, four freckles on each cheek with a diamond pattern and his face began to show signs of bruises. "Can you walk, brat?"
A small groan came out of his throat as he tried to take a step. "I don't think so… everything hurts… Uh?" He watched as the young man walked to where his backpack was, lifted it along with the rest that was left out and returned with Izuku, knelt down with his back towards the boy obviously telling him to climb up.
"I'm going to take you to your house, just indicate the way."
"Uh... o-okay." Doubtful, he climbed on the back of Meika, who held his legs and began to walk toward the exit of the tunnel, not caring he just left three teenagers unconscious. "A-again, thank you very much for helping me..."
"Not mention it, brat."
"My name is Izuku Midoriya, by the way."
"Nice to meet you, I guess..." He really wasn't sure how to start a talk with the boy, he would use what caught his attention. "So… you're quirkless." For a moment the boy thought he would receive an insult or mockery for his condition. "The world is smaller than I thought..."
This aroused the curiosity of the child. "What you mean?"
"...Brat, I'm also quirkless."
This greatly surprised Izuku. Anyone else like him who don't possess a power? Although they said twenty percent of the population was quirkless, many of them were already elderly, someone young without quirk was virtually nonexistent. "I-e-seriously?"
"Yep, I haven't other eye, nor can I see the future and much less launch a laser from my ass." The last one took a little laugh at the boy, more than anything because once he saw someone with that quirk, it was a rare combination between disgust and amazement. "I will guess, they all don't stop bothering you or trying to beat the shit out of you and the adults don't give a damn." The sigh he heard was enough proof that he was right. "Your parents left you in an orphanage?"
"Wha-what? They never did that, they raised me without caring that I didn't have a quirk... Meika-san... you..." He didn't want to finish the question for fear of upsetting him.
"Yes... It doesn't matter, someone adopted me time later... Anyway, what do you want to do? You know, for the future." He turned down a street as directed by Izuku, good luck for them didn't meet anyone yet.
"...Do you promise not to laugh?" He saw Meika noding, indicating a yes. "I want to be a hero..."
"…Why?"
"In part because I want to help people, save them while smiling without fear, like All Might... on the other..." He thought a little about what he was going to say, he never mentioned it out loud, always in his thoughts. "I want to prove myself..."
"...Show everyone you're worth." He completed the sentence for him, he knew that feeling very well.
"E-exactly... but I don't know what to do. I mean, I know I must become stronger, but I can't find a way. I wanted to learn martial art but all the dojos refused to teach a quirkless, those who accepted are far away and expensive and nothing guarantees the other students will accept me..." A sigh full of frustration came from his lips, the fact that he wanted to get everything out of himself with someone who could understand was why he was doing it right now, tears were starting to come out. "I have tried to learn karate for myself, but I don't achieve anything no matter how I train, it's like my body refuses to learn and it's difficult without someone to help me..."
Meika was practically muted, he didn't know what to say or do about the child's situation, he let out a heavy sigh. "Brat, I wouldn't lie to you. I have no idea what to say to help you, but... you will surely find the way, there is always one." It is the only thing that was more encouraging he has for the moment. An idea came to Izuku.
"That you did before... the water stream rock smashing fist... i wish you could teach me..."
Before even contemplating the possibility, he noticed they arrived at the apartment complex where Izuku lived. "We arrived brat do you think you-" His question was interrupted when he heard how the door of the building opened and a couple were out, a woman of medium stature, long green hair and eyes of the same color and next to her a man of almost the same height as Meika, black hair, freckles and eyes also green but darker. "I haven't seen so much green since my last salad..."
"Izuku?! Oh my god baby! What happened to you?!" Exclaimed a very disturbed Inko to see how her son seemed to have been beaten by someone. From one second to another she was already in front of them to see his status better.
"You were the bastard who did this to my son?!" Shouted a very angry Hisashi, who was already prepared to start a fight with Meika but stopped when he listened to Izuku.
"Dad! He don't, if more, he saved me from being worse..." This surprised Hisashi by making him blink twice.
"...What?" His attention returned to Meika who cleared his throat.
"Sir, I think the best thing is that we enter thus I can explain what happened."
The couple, a bit perplexed, decided to listen to him and take the talk to their apartment. Now inside Izuku went to his room to change with the help of his father, and the mother excused herself to go to the kitchen so she can make tea, Meika took the time to see the home from the couch, the walls were of a light blue pastel and had some occasional painting or family photo or only of Izuku in his childhood, the kitchen was not far from the living room, the same with the dining room, he could see there was a corridor where he supposed the rooms and the bathroom would be. Within everything it was small but enough for three people and the familiar atmosphere the place transmitted filled the silver haired man, something that he had not felt for a couple of years. He heard how the door of a room opened and closed, when he turned his head, he saw that father and son had already left the boy's room, the latter with a white shirt with the word "shirt" on his chest and short black pants. At the same time the mother left the kitchen with a tray with four cups of tea that she left on the table and each one took one, Izuku sat next to him while the couple on the couch in front of them. The minor was the first to speak.
"I-I guess I should start." He inhaled and exhaled to calm down.
Then he told what happened, how Yin tried to make him do his homework for them, that he refused and even insulted him, which his mother disapproved but his father said otherwise, that he was being beaten until Meika arrived, now it was his turn to say why he was there and that his intention was only to scare the idiots to leave him alone but when he heard about the "shitty quirkless" made him angry and left the three unconscious, thing that Hisashi did not let out.
"Wait, three? There weren't four? Not counting that Sakami boy." He noticed how his son swallowed and laughed nervously.
"Maybe or not maybe I hit Yin in the face and broke his nose...?"
"…That's my son."
"Hisashi!"
"What? He deserved it." That made him won the annoying look of his wife. The attention of both parents returned to Meika and both bowed. "From the depths of our hearts, we thank you for helping our son."
This made the young man a bit uncomfortable, he was better in the language of fists and didn't know what to say, so he just clicked his tongue. "Don't mention it." He left the empty cup on the table and got up, ready to leave. "I think I should go now... I'm sure you three have a lot to talk about. The tea was delicious by the way." He turned to Izuku. "Br... boy, don't let the others take advantage of you, you're better than that." This seemed to surprise and somehow disappoint the child, as if he wanted him to stay longer. "God... it's like seeing a sad puppy".
"Are you leaving?" He sounded sad, he hoped Meika could stay longer, he finally finds someone who doesn't treat him like a weirdo apart from his parents, they even shared being quirkless and he had to go? He tried to say something, but nothing came out of his mouth so he just let out a sad sigh."I-I-it's fine... again, thanks." He bowed, more to hide the fact that he was starting to cry than anything else.
"...Don't mention it." He said waved to the parents and went to the exit, the only thing that could be heard were his steps. Although his thoughts were others.
"I want to prove myself."
He reached the door and put his hand on the handle. He squeezed harder than he should.
"Nobody wants to teach a quirkless."
Open the door. He swallowed some saliva.
"The water stream rock smashing fist..."
And closed it.
"I wish you could teach me."
He turned to see the family, confused by his action. He returned with them but his eyes were focused on Izuku.
Damn his softness with children.
"Brat, go for something where I can write." He gave a sigh of impatience, seeing how doubtful the boy was. "Now!" That seemed to wake him up and went to his room, probably for one of his notebooks. Now he saw the parents who were even more confused, he really didn't know what to say to explain. Lucky for him that the boy returned with his notebook and pencil by hand, gave him both things and began to read. "Strengths... weaknesses... fighting styles... God, this guy does know his stuff." He passed some pages until he reached a blank one where he wrote an address and handed the notebook and pencil back to the boy. "Tomorrow is Saturday, have a light breakfast, go there with one of your parents, at nine, you are late and don't dare to speak to me again." He said it very quickly, without wasting time he went to the door, this time to really go.
"W-Ho-whe- What are you talking about?" Asked a very confused Izuku, his parents were worse since they had no idea what was happening. Meika opened the door and turned to see the green-haired boy. A smile adorned his face.
"You said you wanted me to teach you, right? Well there you go, see ya." It was the last thing he said before leaving and closing the door, leaving a perplexed family. Hisashi was the first to said what everyone was thinking.
"...What the heck?"
Already outside, the silver haired man let out a heavy sigh. "What a day..." He put his hands in his pockets and began to go to the exit of the building. "He wants to be strong, he is striving for it but he lacks a guide, someone to help him... you saw that in me, don't you, old man?" He thought with a bit of melancholy when he left and addressed the streets. "But... How do you train a brat?"
...
What had he gotten himself into?
