Well this story has certainly gone through a lot before it even reached my Doc Manager. Wrote the first chapter, started an Outline for it, dropped it for half a year, came back, wrote a better outline and rewrote chapter one, recently finished chapter two and might have to rewrite the outline again ha.
Now I'm finally posting this story. EDIT: SO FUNNY STORY I'M POSTING THIS A DAY LATE CAUSE MY ALERT DIDN'T GO OFF.
Disclaimer: I do not own RWBY nor do I own Jurassic Park/World.
The only sound in the sterile lab was the humming of the incubators. Most of them were empty except for two.
Standing in front of one of the incubators was Owen Grady, arms crossed as he stared down at the four white eggs.
The first batch of Velociraptor eggs.
His girls.
Even though Dr. Wu warned him that most might not survive, Owen was optimistic...and already attached.
"Here."
The Raptor Handler snapped his head towards the voice, not having heard someone come in. He blinked at the hand holding latex gloves towards him before looking at the person it was connected to.
A young woman that couldn't be older than mid-twenties, or younger because of her short height. Her silver eyes looked on patiently as he sized her up. Her black hair had dark red tips that would lightly brush her chin. Her skin was surprisingly pale for someone working on a tropical island.
Owen's first thought was; What an odd eye color.
His second one was; Did the park allow employees to have dyed hair?
"Um, who are you?" Owen awkwardly took the gloves. "This room is restricted."
"Ruby Rose, the Paleo-Veterinarian assigned to the Raptor Research Project. I'm here to make sure our girls are strong and healthy!" She grinned at him. "Thought the future Alpha would like to help turn the eggs."
"Yeah, thanks," The Raptor Handler quickly slipped on the gloves as Ruby opened the incubator. "I'm Owen Grady."
"Nice to meet you, Owen," The Vet hummed as she carefully picked up an egg. "Can I call you Owen?"
"Only if I can call you Doc."
A snort. "Deal."
"Hey, hey! Delta, don't give me that shit!"
Ruby was leaning against the wall of the safe area with her arms crossed. Silver eyes watching the baby raptors run circles around their Alpha in amusement.
She was waiting for "training" to finish so she can do weekly check ups. Measurements, blood draws for the lab, all that fun stuff.
Ruby looked forward to more teeth marks to add to her growing collection.
"Line up!" Owen firmly ordered.
Blue skwaked at her sisters and the other three quickly fell in line.
With a pleased grin, Owen glanced at her. "Ready?"
"Got the Sleep Treats?" Ruby straightened up and looked at Barry, who held up four mice.
Sleep Treats were mice or rats with sedatives for the raptors, so they were asleep during check ups. It's safer for everyone involved and made check ups easier.
Owen grabbed the treats and had the raptors do simple tricks for them.
Meanwhile, Ruby began to pull out her equipment needed for the check ups, Barry providing a helping hand.
Once the raptors fell asleep they were quick to begin the check up.
"Litter Huntresses are growing up quickly," Ruby commented while writing down Echo's measurements/ "Faster than Wu predicted."
"Is that good or bad?" Owen asked while placing Blue in the little nest they created, her check up already finished.
"It's not uncommon, the scientists can't predict everything. Just gotta keep an eye on them and be careful."
"Got it."
The check up was quickly over and all the baby raptors were snuggled together in their nest.
"Vic said the paddock is complete, I think we can move them in a few weeks. Maybe sooner with their growth rate," Barry sat in one of the uncomfortable plastic chairs lining the wall near the door.
"Then the fun training begins," Owen grinned.
"Ooooooh, I can't wait!" Ruby bounced on her feet.
"At least you don't have to write the training reports."
"Nope, just the check up reports, any injury reports, and behavior reports."
"Isn't Owen suppose to do behavior reports?" Barry raised an eyebrow.
"Wu was adimment on two behavior reports on the raptors from two sources."
"Because of the last park?"
"Yep," Ruby nodded. "They caused most of the deaths, so he wants to know if they are getting overly aggressive.
Ruby hummed as she set her office, which was housed in the building next to the Raptor Paddock.
The vet had a feeling she would be spending a lot of time there, so she invested a special place for her coffee machine.
With one last glance over, Ruby locked her office and headed out of the building.
The walk to the paddock was very short, considering it was right outside. She climbed up the stairs to the catwalk and joined Owen as he looked down at the teenage raptors, who were starting to wake up.
"I have a coffee machine in my new office, but I'llonly share if you provide the cream and sugar."
Owen scoffed. "Your coffee isn't coffee, it's a sugary abomination."
"Just for that, you aren't allowed to use it," Ruby crossed her arms and stuck out her tongue.
Charlie, who was watching them from below, skwaked in confusion and attempted to stick out her own tongue. Only succeeding in looking like a panting dog with knife sharp teeth.
The two snorted and laughed, leaning against the railing.
"Anyway," The vet wiped away a tear that wasn't there. "I'm turning in for the day, call me if something happens."
"You got it, Doc."
Climbing down the stairs, Ruby headed towards her company provided jeep. So she can travel between the paddock, the employee buildings, and the Main Park easier.
The employee buildings was a good ten minute drive from the new paddock, it was much closer to the Main Park.
She parked in the makeshift parking lot, which was a small cleared out area everyone just parked in.
Ruby's dorm/apartment thing was the first door on the third floor, so it was a bit of a climb.
But she's done way more strenuous exercise.
Unlocking her door, she sighed at the sight of her quiet, lonely rooming.
If she thought hard enough, she could almost see hazardous bunk beds in a crowded dorm room.
She blinked and the image was gone.
Ruby's heart ached as she closed her door and headed over to the kitchen, stopping when her eyes floated to her desk. She changed directions.
Crescent Rose sat dormant on the desk, she hasn't been used in many years but Ruby made sure she was still in top shape. A pale finger started tracing the claw marks on her precious weapon.
A Beowolf yelped as it was cut in half by a red scythe, quickly disappearing in black smoke. \
"Cover me!" Ruby called to her teammates before taking a calming breath, closing her eyes.
"On it!"
She blocked out the noise of the battle and focused. Her eyes began to feel warm.
"NO!"
Ruby opened her eyes to laser beam the creatures and hopefully their leader. However just as her silver light blasted out a purple light combined with it.
The Huntress blacked out.
When Ruby woke up, it was in an unfamiliar park in an unfamiliar city.
In an unfamiliar world.
Ruby used her pillow to prop up her Scroll. Pressing play she leaned back to sit more comfortably on the end of her bed.
"Video diary number um...I-lost-count-a-long-time-ago-hundred. We moved the girls into their paddock today and I set up my new office."
"I have a coffee machine in there, told Owen he can only use it if he paid taxes in cream and sugar," Ruby snorted. "Charlie tried to stick out her tongue today, it was both adorable and as scary as a Beowolf."
"I would ask how you all are doing, but I'm not even sure if these videos are even sending. My Scroll has been a bit wonky since I tried to jury rig it to connect to Weiss' Scroll, it might just be saying it. But I have a little bit of hope that it's actually sending."
She gave a weak laugh, sadness evident in it.
"At least I can pretend I'm still connected to Remnant with these video diaries, like a Huntress on a long mission reporting in."
'That dream is long gone,' Came a bitter thought.
"I may have given up trying to find a way home, but I still miss it...a lot. I miss my family, my team, my friends...everything. I miss everything. I miss fighting with Crescent Rose. Hell, I miss Professor Port's long stories."
Ruby sniffed and quickly wiped away the tears forming in her eyes, giving the Scroll a watery smile.
"That's it for this video. Ruby Rose, signing off."
The vet stopped the video and it immediately sent to her message board with Weiss.
With yet another sigh, Ruby set her Scroll on her nightstand next to her phone and laid down.
Falling into a dreamless sleep.
A Scroll that laid on a messy desk belpped with a message alert. The screen lit up with a notification.
'One message from Dolt.'
I can't wait to expand on Ruby's forming relationship with the girls and what I have planned for Fallen Kingdom ;).
