"Plan. We need a plan." Eleanor said, pacing in front of her fellow friends at Mindy's. Even as she had been there for the fifth time and had no recollection of the previous times, she was still equally as adamant as the previous times. "Michael doesn't know we know. At least, not yet. Do we have any ideas? Come on team."
"You said that the four other times." Mindy responded, rolling her eyes. "And each time you told me you'd get me cocaine when you come back! You still haven't. I have half a mind to just kick you guys out of the Medium Place because of it. I even have to wear clothes more often simply because I never know when you're going to come!"
"Is that really what you're concerned about right now?" Chidi sighed, "Eleanor is right. We need a plan while we have the time."
"Why don't we beat him up? Yunno, like Kill Bill or something! Uma Thurman was reeeeeaaaaally hot there homie." Jason nodded and they all rolled their eyes.
"He's an immortal being—that's unlikely." Tahani responded, "But at least you're offering something to conversation. Good on you, Jason darling."
"Yeah and you've tried it already. I only know of four attempts that you've made it to the Medium Place, though there are probably more attempts I don't know about." Mindy responded, looking up from her magazine. "If your strangling had worked, you guys wouldn't be here and I would be able to masturbate by myself again." Mindy paused, then smiled, her eyes lighting up. "That's it!"
"W-What's it? I really don't like that look in your eye." Chidi said, palms sweaty as he rubbed them together.
"Why don't you just have sex with him? Have you considered that? For a demon, maybe he has desires. He certainly desires to torture you guys. Perhaps sex could be on the table." Mindy suggested and the four humans glared back at her. "Get with him. Give him a reason to get on his knees, move...well, what you have." Mindy smirked and Eleanor gave her a glare.
"You know, that is a possibility, especially for Eleanor." Janet responded with segue, looking to Eleanor. Chidi, Tahani, and Mindy looked to Eleanor, confused.
"Especially for me? Please tell me you're joking." Eleanor laughed mirthlessly, looking to the three humans and Janet. Mindy crossed her arms in defense, magazine discarded on her lap. Though, judging by their faces, they were actually considering it. Eleanor's eyebrows raised higher than she thought possible. Chidi, Jason, and Tahani looked at each other before looking back at Eleanor. "You're all fucking joking. I know you're horny Mindy but...seriously?"
"That's not that bad of an idea." Jason said, "I'm a dude and I like chicks. Michael is an immortal guy but maybe the homie likes sex. Who knows?"
Eleanor ran a hand through her golden locks, the thoughts consuming her faster than Chidi could get a stomachache. "Dude! Not helping!" She pointed to Tahani in desperation. "Have Tahani do it! She's practically made of legs!"
"I'm glad you think that darling, I am quite made of legs. Similarly to Karen Gillan. Met her a few times. Lovely woman." Tahani said, a small smile creeping up her lips, "But you're fine as well, surely..." She looked up and down at Eleanor and then shook her head. "No, I don't understand why Eleanor is the best choice. She's built like a mechanic and has no dress sense!"
"I'll take that as a compliment for now to keep us from arguing." Eleanor rolled her eyes and turned to Chidi, who was already thinking himself to hell. "Chidi? Please tell me you're not really thinking of putting me into the lion's den, dude."
"It's not that. I don't want to put you there, by all means, but I want to explore all the options without breaking any level of ethics. Janet, who do you think has the best chance of doing this? Is it really Eleanor?" Chidi asked, though he himself was already uncomfortable. Janet paused for a brief moment, before nodding.
"Judging by my calculations, Eleanor is the best possible candidate." Janet chirped, "The way he talks about her is extensive. Extensive enough that he could be seduced to make him stop, perhaps turn to your side."
"Thank goodness it's not me. Not that I wouldn't have minded for the greater good—" With a disapproving glare from Chidi and Eleanor, Tahani stopped talking.
"Ooh, I've heard that word. Extensive, like the time that one girl told me about—" Jason added, grinning.
"Enough, dirt for brains." Eleanor placed a finger on her temple, her mind racing faster than that one time she tried drugs and did not like it. "What do you mean he talks about me extensively? W-What is the definition of extensively?"
"Extensively is an adverb. It means to cover a large detailed area." Janet chipped in, "That is the definition."
"Heh, that's what that girl said about her big—"
"I meant that as a rhetorical question." Eleanor cut in before Jason could continue to speak. "Why is he extensively talking about me, Janet?" Eleanor asked.
"You're literally the embodiment of his pain and suffering! He wants a promotion, to prove his first neighborhood was a success and you're the variable that stops him usually." Janet gave her a pure unbending smile, despite the gravity of what she was speaking. "He finds everything about you to be horrible but fascinating because you keep foiling his plans. He goes to you first each time the reboot occurs. He makes sure you're comfortable and safe, even if it is meant to make sure the reiteration of the neighborhood is fine. He has talked about you plenty, whether it be in anger, delight, confusion, or any other inflection in his voice in comparison to Chidi, Tahani, or Jason combined. During the time Jason defeated him, he still went back to ranting about you and how you was losing your touch for Jason to figure it out faster than you did. According to psychology, it is highly likely he may have a mild obsession with Eleanor. Perhaps even bigger than that."
"I defeated him before? Wild bro!" Jason grinned. Tahani slapped Jason on the arm and he went back to looking at more magazines.
"Would you like to hear some of the things he has said about you?"
"Uh...sure, dude...?" Eleanor was, quite frankly, in a horrible position. Judging by the looks of her compadres' faces, they didn't have any other plans. If she was going to do this, she might as well hear about it.
"He has said, and I quote, 'Her confidence is palpable in all nine dimensions every time she thwarts me! Sure, I'm psyching her out in the first few moments but then she gets her confidence and I already know it's pointless! She stares me down and I know it's over.' And, 'Janet, I don't understand. Why is it that Chidi, Tahani, and Jason never figure it out? Tahani and Jason, I can understand, but Chidi is a professor. You'd think...oh. Do you think I'm letting her get to me? Fork, I might be.' And, 'Janet, this is no longer a torture simulation. The other three humans don't matter as much. Well, they're variables. No, it's how to outsmart Eleanor Shellstrop. That woman is infuriating!' And, 'There's no mistaking it, Janet. I'm off the deep end. If Shawn finds out, I'm forked.' Should I keep going? I have a lot more quotes to pull!"
Eleanor buried her face in her hands. Out of everyone, it had to be her that the demon was obsessed with.
"So, like I said, fuck him! Literally and figuratively!" Mindy called out, "It's worth a shot. If it doesn't work, I'll list it down and you will never have to do it again. Besides, isn't the idea of horrible...the demon's ideal? Gosh, this the best idea I've had since...well, since I was last coked up. When I was alive."
"Can we be certain that this will work? I mean, w-we would be wasting a chance that we remember. Can we be certain? Even with those quotes, that's not solid enough evidence that Michael will...do that." Chidi bit his lip, "I-I don't think this is a good idea."
"But it's a plan. Better than Michael coming over and erasing our memories because we didn't try something." Eleanor responded and they all looked at her. "What?"
"Are you not...at the least bit hesitant, darling?" Tahani asked, "The man has no fashion sense at all. A lot of his clothes truly make him look bottom-heavy. Not the best combinations. Even just the concept of shagging him gives me the shivers."
"I agree. With the clothing, of course." Janet said, "His last color combination did not fit him at all!"
"We're literally sending Eleanor in with a horrible idea that most definitely will not work and all you can think about is fashion choices?!" Chidi said, looking to Eleanor. "What if he hurts you?"
"He's not going to hurt me. We are his lifeline." Eleanor said, waving a hand dismissively.
"We have no memories of it, maybe he has!" Chidi responded, "You never know!"
"Chidi, darling, I don't meant to interrupt, but we're dead. If we were harmed in the Good Place turned Bad Place, I don't think we would be able to not tell. I know when my facial masks are not the same to what I always wear. I think I could tell if my body has been bitten before." Tahani added.
"He's not even human! How can we even be sure he's capable of being seduced?!"
"It is possible. He is wearing a human meat suit, equipped with everything as needed. The glasses are an addition, as all demons are required to have a handicap that prevents them from really being joyful. He opted for an optical problem." Janet pitched in, "Their parts are compatible. Had he not been in his human meat suit...perhaps not so much."
"Was really hoping you'd tell me no." Chidi groaned, looking to Eleanor in worry.
"Dude, I know my options and all things considered, it's worth a shot. At least we'll have Mindy to tell us that we did this already. Plus, I can make my last bang not as lame, even if I'll forget. My last bang on Earth was when I was in a Hometown Buffet and the hot manager offered me a chance to make his girlfriend jealous for free buffets for a year. I think. Not sure if it's that or the other." Eleanor reminisced, "But it's not like it's bad. Getting...whatever that demon has can't be any worse than not trying something. Plus it's...it's not like it's not something to rule out. It's like doing roleplay in the bedroom! Just...the roleplay is all real."
"This is insane!" Chidi shook his head in disapproval. "Let's just go back to the drawing board and pick a better plan!"
"Last time I had you try to pick something, it did not go well Chidi! You couldn't even figure out what hat you wanted to wear to the opening day party. This is me trying. If we've been able to come back here four times before, it won't be that hard to come back to this level again. We're dead! We don't need to worry. I'll just...I'll just try. It'll be fine, dude!"
Though even as she gave Chidi a thumbs-up, she wasn't really sure if it would be fine.
