I- The Birth of a Hero

Cersei Lannister was in pain. That stubborn monster of a child was giving her a hard time coming out of her belly. Don't mistake her, she loved the child but by the gods was he a pain. Jaime, her twin-brother was holding her hand while he himself seemed to be just as worried as her. He was sitting close to her on the royal bed, and was muttering sweet nothings in her ear, under the always careful eye of Jon Arryn. The truth was that Jaime and Cersei, were lovers. It was of course a secret, seeing that such a thing was a sin punishable by death. It all started when they were kids, they were always close. Too close. They started thinking of each other in a romantic way when they turned twelve. They had a small relationship that lasted two years, but it all went wrong when their father caught them naked one time in the bath. He turned a blind eye, but sent Jaime away to squire for Barristan Selmy, one of the best knight in the seven kingdoms. Cersei herself, was then brought up with a single goal in mind, being queen. A role she was now very well settled in, with already a male heir and a second child on the way.

" I need you to push one last time your Grace" said the Septa in charge of the delivery.

Cersei took a breath. she was going to deliver that child, even if she lost her life on the way. She screamed. an inhuman one, straight from the deepest darkest part of her heart. She cursed. She cursed her life, she cursed her whoremonger of a Husband, she cursed the rebellion that brought him on the throne and made him lose his soul and finally, she cursed Lyanna Stark, the woman she could never be.

" Come on sister push" came the voice of Jaime. She wanted to tell him off, because he had absolutely no idea what she was going through. But she held her tongue and followed the advice. She took her last strengths and pushed, again.

Suddenly, as if pushed by the holy hand of the Mother, the child came out. She felt him leave her body. The Septa grabbed it and smiled.

" Glory me your Grace its a boy" she said with exuberance.

Cersei smiled, feeling her position solidifying. After all the ability for a queen to give not one but two sons to the King was an incredible feat.

" Let me-let me hold him" she muttered loud enough to be heard by the woman.

The septa walked closer to the Queen, and gently handed her the child.

Cersei's eyes widened, finally laying her eyes on her second born. He was bald, but she could see strands of black hair on his bloody head. The Septa started wiping the baby while Cersei was looking him over for any imperfection. A missing limb, a disformed member, a missing finger. She looked giddy outside but inside she was thinking. The Baby had black hair. He was a Baratheon. He wasn't Jaime's like Joffrey. He was Robert's. And just like Robert he looked strong. Cersei's eyes clouded. He wasn't a Lannister, he was a Baratheon.

Jaime came to look over at the child and exchanged a look with Cersei. They understood each other.

" I-" he started when the door busted opened and the King walked in with his brothers.

" I'm sorry my love, I was out hunting, I came as soon as I could" he said in his gruff voice. he came and kneeled in front of her, careful not to startle the child.

He took him from Cersei's hands, got up and sat down next to her. He tried to pet him but the child grabbed his finger and started wrestling with it.

" Strong boy heh" let out Robert in the softest voice he could muster. He knew, in his heart he knew that boy was a true Baratheon. Everyone else in the room was silent. It wasn't everyday they saw their King in such a peaceful state.

The child who had been silent until now, suddenly opened his eyes and started crying. The septa rushed over and restarted wiping him with water, to clean off all the dirt that was on him. Robert let her proceed, silently gazing into his son's eyes. They were green. greener than the herbs of the Vale, Greener than the fields of the Reach. Greener than Cersei's own eyes, even thought he must have gotten the feature from her. He then thought of another man with green eyes. A great man, who died during the Fourth Blackfyre rebellion, fighting for those blasted Targaryens. His great Uncle, Harry Baratheon the brave. He smiled.

" Welcome back to the world, Harry Baratheon".

Six years later...

" My prince you should stop, it's way too dangerous" pleaded a feminine voice.

Cersei sighed. she was sitting in her garden and was trying to enjoy this new book about a fantasy place full of unknown magical beasts. It was rubbish she knew it but in spite of her being the queen, her life was incredible boring and like the small folks, she needed some entertainment. She brought her tea cup to her mouth as she watched her son Harry run around the large garden with his white dog Benjamin loyally running after him. They were being chased by an overly cautious caretaker who was eyeing the wooden sword Harry was crazily waving around.

On the side, his four name days sister Myrcella and his two name days brother Tommen were playing with wooden horses and knights and enjoying a perfect afternoon.

" Please My prince I beg of you get down from there"

Cersei turned her attention back to Harry and watched with a raised brow as he was successfully climbing a wall of the red keep, chasing after some kind of lizard. She blinked then sighed. it was enough.

" Harry dear come here a minute" she asked with a calm but loud enough tone.

Harry Jumped down from the wall, and ran to her, the maid and the dog after him. The maid gave her a grateful smile for stopping Harry and Cersei acknowledged it with a nod. Harry stood in front of her, all smile, his charming big green eyes looking at her with an eagerness that melted her eyes. Ladies were going to tear each others skirt off over her son at one point. That was a certainty.

" Don't climb the wall honey I don't want you to get hurt"

Harry's eyes dimmed a bit but he maintained his smile. Cersei's heart pulled. She hated disappointing her children but if it was the price for him being safe then she was willing to pay it.

He sat down next to her on the table and stole a cookie from her plate. She gave him an appreciative stare and ruffled his hair. They passed a few minutes in a comfortable silence.

" Mother look" said a voice coming from one of the doors on her right. She turned around and saw her other pride and joy. Joffrey was walking toward her with his crown on and a servant behind him, holding something in her hands. Harry got up and his eyes turned into slits. Cersei sighed. her two eldest did not appreciate one another.

They were so different. Joffrey loved luxurious things and had a certain air of superiority just like her. Harry liked practical and simple things. He loved the outdoors and wearing simple clothes to play in the dirt and fight. That was his thing. Harry was a fighter. He wouldn't bow to anyone unless that person proved stronger than him. Everyone had to prove themselves to earn his respect. Everyone except Robert and Her. Robert because he was a King who took his crown and for Harry it was a show of strength and her because she was his mother, and currently the most important woman of his life. Apart from them, Harry respected very few people. And that did not include Jaime and Joffrey.

Harry despised jaime. he refused to learn from him and avoided him like the plague unless he really had to interact with him. Jaime didn't seem to care, but Joffrey was always furious. He demanded respect from Harry because of his status as crown-prince, but Harry always dismissed him all under the amused stare of Robert. Things were not all bright between the two brothers and it's with apprehension that Cersei watched Joffrey approach, a smirk on his face.

" Mother look" Joffrey repeated. He pointed to the servant girl behind him who was carrying a tray with somekind of animal in it. Cersei's skin went cold. The tray was covered in blood and in it were lying three cats, a mother and her two kittens. the kittens were not fully formed and there were traces of a knife on the mother, as if they were cut out of her.

" The Ugly little thing was pregnant" he explained with shrug, " must have been some peasant dirty cat from the city, anyway I wanted to see what was inside of her, sorry Tommen, Myrcella, looks like you'll need another cat".

Joffrey said the last part loud enough for the other two to hear. they came over to the table to see, ignoring Harry's attempt to shield them from the horrible sight.

painful seconds passed. Then Myrcella let out a loud scream. Some guards came over, swords in hands, ready to deal with the menace but they ended up standing there, dumbfounded in front of the spectacle they were assisting to. Myrcella threw herself in Harry's arms and started wailing loudly, Tommen just kept on looking at the cat, his baby eyes not understand the gravity of the matter.

" Take them away please" said Cersei while rubbing her forehead, lost in front of her eldest son vile act of cruelty. The maid that chased Harry shook out of her stupor and picked up Tommen before holding Myrcella's hand and led them away toward the inside of the keep, two guards accompanying her for good measure.

" Why would you do that Joffrey ?" asked Cersei in a pained voice. she could still hear Myrcella's loud cries and knew that Robert would be made aware of what had transpired.

" I was curious" said Joffrey with innocence. Cersei knew he was lying. he wanted this. The pain Myrcella had felt, the shock for young Tommen, he enjoyed this. This was worrying.

Cersei looked to her second born, and for the second time in the day, froze. Harry was glaring at Joffrey. But he wasn't a glare you'd expect from a child. it was a glared you'd give to a sword enemy, a person you wished to destroy.

" Harry make sure no one learns of this" said Cersei with a pleading smile. He turned toward her, his eyes wide with incomprehension.

"Mother he-" he started but Cersei cut him off.

" If your father learns of this he will punish your brother. You're father will ask for your side of things. Don't say it was Joffrey please" she said in a soothing tone.

Harry breathed loudly, his small but strong body shaking in anger.

He then turned toward the girl who was holding the tray. She seemed on the verge of vomiting, passing out, then waking up to vomit again.

" Elena", he called and she looked up to him. She was young, maybe fourteen name days. she was a peasant girl that had bled but had yet to be touched by a man. She worked in the kitchen with her mother and older sister.

" Yes My prince" she answered with a smile, despite the horror she was holding in her hands.

" Lets go bury this" simply said Harry while motioning for her to follow. He practical ran after him, careful not to drop any blood on the garden's neatly trimmed lawn.

Joffrey sat down in the sit Harry previously occupied and also stole a cookie from his mother. He munched on it, contented, like everything was fine in the world.

Cersei went back to her book, but she was only staring at the pages. Her heart was aching. Because each day that passed, she could feel the rift between her two sons, growing larger.
