Hello everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read this fanfic o'mine.

Okay, so first things first, do not expect regular updates. I upload chapters as and when I complete them, so sometimes it takes a while for the next chapter to come out.

Second... Well, just enjoy the story.

Chapter 1: The Teenage Wizard

A curtain gently fluttered to and fro as a calming breeze slipped in through the partially open window, a wind chime ringing every so often as it too was affected by the breeze. The curtain stopped flapping as a hand clenched it tight and threw it open, letting light into the once dim room as the window was slammed shut and locked.

A boy stretched as he walked away from the window, his right arm reaching for the ceiling as he pulled it gently with his left. The boy stopped stretching and dropped his arms, letting them swing loosely as he stood in a daze. He eventually shook his head and slapped his cheeks a few times to wake himself up, his eyes fluttered open and closed a couple of times before he let his mouth form a small smile. Now mostly awake, the boy walked back over to the window he had closed, focussing on the desk that sat underneath it. The boy fiddled with some papers before eventually picking up one particular piece of paper, a letter.

To my dear cousin.

Following the discussion we had over our past few letters, I have had a word with the Headmistress of Luna Nova Academy. She shares my belief that learning magic in a controlled environment will help you to better yourself and acquire new knowledge. Thus, you have been guaranteed a place at Luna Nova should you choose to accept it.

If you do accept this place in the Academy then please visit the Headmistress's office to receive your uniform, once you have changed into your uniform you will need to attend the opening ceremony to formally become a student at the Academy.

Your cousin and friend forever, Ursula Callistis.

P.S. Please consider the offer and don't just throw this letter away, it took a lot of begging to convince the Headmistress to allow you to be a student.

The boy read through the letter one last time, making sure he hadn't missed anything. Satisfied with the fact that he had what he needed to do committed to memory the boy set the letter down. He briefly left the room to wash before returning and walking over to his dresser to quickly throw some clothes on. It was a simple combination consisting of a maroon dress shirt, dark blue jeans and some white socks, he would put his shoes on before leaving.

The boy headed downstairs to get started on making breakfast, he decided on making a few slices of toast. After he finished preparing breakfast, the boy sat down at the table with his toast and a cup of tea. The boy took a sip of his tea from a porcelain, rose patterned cup after every few bites of his toast, a small clink resounding through the room as the cup was returned to the similarly decorated saucer.

As the boy finished his toast he noticed that the cleaning fairies had stopped working and were sleeping on the table and kitchen counter. The boy sighed realising what the problem was, it was something that happened every so often.

The teen grabbed his black and white canvas shoes from the foyer, slipped them on and fastened them up with a double knot before heading for the basement. He opened the door to the basement staircase and felt a burst of chilly air blow against his face, he really hated having to go down there. Never the less, the teen made his way down the stairs and followed the straight corridor to only room that made up the basement. He opened the door to the room, only to be met with another chilly blast of air, this one colder than the last.

The boy rubbed his shivering arms to keep himself warm as he approached the object in the centre of the room, a big green stone that was simply lying on the floor. The teen did a quick scan of the room, he noticed a few things that might have caused the problem and quickly went about fixing them. He fastened a few pipes and tubes that had come loose, corrected a few wires and changed the position of a few plugs.

Despite all this, the stone didn't reactivate.

The teen released an aggravated sigh before walking back over to the stone, mumbling about how it was probably the most fickle Sorcerer's Stone in existence. Once he was close enough, the boy slammed his foot down on the stone once, twice and a good few times more.

Shortly after taking this beating, the Sorcerer's Stone emitted a faint glow, the glow got brighter and brighter until it bathed the room in a mint green light. The boy would have considered the light calming, but all things considered he was more tempted to take a sledgehammer to the stone than relax.

Releasing another sigh, the teen went back to the kitchen to check on the cleaning fairies. Seeing that the fairies were up and back to doing their chores the teen let his mouth curve into a relieved smile. One of the fairies floated up to him, he rubbed its miniscule cheek with the tip of his finger before the fairy flew off to get back to its chores. The boy checked the time and decided to get a move on, just because he had been guaranteed a place at the Academy didn't mean he should make a habit of being late. He'd already had ample warnings of a teacher that would expel him for doing so.

The teen found himself back in the foyer, he quickly checked through the luggage he had left there the day before to make sure he had everything he needed. Content with his, admittedly brisk, check, the boy made for the door with his luggage, picking up a broom that was resting next to the door before finally leaving.

Once outside, the boy placed the broom between his legs and began to, awkwardly, place his luggage on the broom. With two light bags on the front and one hefty suitcase on the back, the teen cleared his throat as he cast the spell to take off.

"Tia Freyre." The boy told his broom. A second later his broom was hovering and his feet were off the ground. A smile on his face, the teen announced his destination to himself. "Next stop, Luna Nova Academy!" He chuckled to himself as he flew towards a gate of vines.

The space in the middle of the gate sparked to life, the swirl of purple encouraging the boy to fly into it. As he passed through the portal the boy looked around the leyline tunnel, it was as beautiful as ever. Though it was as green as just about everything else magic related.

While the scenery, if it could be called that, was soothing, the boy found himself growing somewhat bored. He hadn't planned anything to keep him occupied during, mainly because he underestimated just how long he would be travelling for. It was better than walking or any other means of travel, but it was lonely since he wasn't using the Glastonbury Tor leyline. The boy was more than tempted to take a nap, but knew better since he would likely plummet to an unfamiliar location. Or the Arcturus forest, lord knows he didn't want to end up there.

The teen was soon free of his boredom as the exit portal came into view. Passing through, he relished in the feeling of the wind against his face, even if the autumn time weather meant that there was a slight chill in the air. Ignoring the slight chill that had begun to wrap around him, the boy headed for a set of arched windows.

Knocking on one of the windows, the boy watched the sole occupant of the room turn to meet his gaze. The boy gave a small wave before pointing to the top of the window, silently asking to be let in. The woman in the room complied with the silent request and pulled out her wand, with a quick flick of the wrist the top of the window opened. The boy ducked as he flew into the room, though he jerked forward when his suitcase prevented him from going any further.

The teen swivelled round on his broom and leant towards his suitcase, not realising that his broom had started to lean forward behind him. As the teen fiddled with his suitcase he heard two thuds from the ground below him, realising that his bags had fallen off the boy sighed in annoyance.

"Sorry!" He called out in apology to the lady in the room, silently hoping neither of the bags had hit her.

Soon enough, the boy managed to pull his suitcase off of the back of his broom. Leaning back to drag the heavy case through the window, the boy failed to realise a certain balance problem his broom was having. Said problem became apparent when he finally pulled the suitcase through, only to find himself off his broom and slamming into the ground below. His suitcase followed suit, but landed on the boy's abdomen in place of the ground. And to add insult to injury, without the teen sitting on it his broom ceased flying, whistling through the air the tip rammed into his forehead before falling over to the side.

"You must be Marcus." The lady assumed, suppressing a giggle.

Marcus pushed his suitcase off of his stomach and stood up, he quickly patted down his shirt before turning his attention back to the lady.

"Yes I am. You must be Headmistress Holbrooke, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." Marcus placed his hand to his chest and bowed. "I apologise for the entrance, but I assumed it would be better to not make the other students worry about why a boy is on campus." He explained as he went about propping his suitcase up and resting his bags on top of it, he leant his broom against the case before standing in front of the Headmistresses desk.

"Thank you for the consideration." The Headmistress thanked. "We plan on telling the students that there will be a boy among them during the opening assembly, so I would like you to wait in the room behind the auditorium's stage." She instructed.

Headmistress Holbrooke took out her wand and gave it another flick, a small pile of folded clothes as well as a Luna Nova wand floated over to Marcus. The boy held out his hands to accept the clothes and wand. As the pile and wand landed in his arms, the boy gave a quick look over what was most definitely his uniform.

"I have to go make sure everything is ready for the assembly. Once you have changed into your uniform, follow this map to the room behind the auditorium." The Headmistress instructed as she handed Marcus a piece of paper before leaving the room.

Marcus immediately changed into his uniform, which consisted of a white long-sleeved shirt, a navy blue sweater vest, a similarly coloured necktie and trousers the same colour. He had also been given a black sash ribbon to use as a belt and a practical uniform, which for him was a hooded robe, a pointed hat with a black belt around it, and the standard issue navy blue boots.

Folding the shirt's collar down and running his thumbs along the underside of the fold until they reached the end, he pulled the collar forward to adjust the shirt. Feeling all too content with himself, Marcus smiled brightly as he headed out of the headmistress's office and followed the map to the room he was supposed to wait in.

So apparently the opening assembly lasts for a while, Marcus was just about ready to take a nap on the sofa in the prep room when he finally heard the Headmistress' cue. Hopping off the sofa, the boy sauntered onto the stage with his back straight and arms at his side, first impressions were everything. Especially with how he was sure to be treated after introducing himself.

Stopping centre stage, Marcus could already hear the surprised murmurs.

"A boy?"

"What's a boy doing here?"

"What's going on?"

Those were just a few of the question that barely reached the teens ears. Waiting patiently as the Headmistress talked the students into calming down; Marcus cleared his throat after being cued.

However, before the boy could even say hello, a light filled the centre of the room before disappearing in a flash as three girls landed where the light had been. Two of the girls laid on the floor in a daze, but one of them started looking around the auditorium before jumping to her feet in excitement.

"We did it! We made it in time!" The girl cheered happily with tears in her eyes.

The room was silent. No one knew what to make of the almost late-comers' sudden arrival. Most of the students and teachers were in shock, Marcus was stifling a laugh and he noticed his cousin heave a relieved sigh, presumably aware of what had happened to the three girls.

Once again taking control of the situation, the Headmistress told the trio to stay where they were and that they would be dealt with after the opening assembly, she then cued Marcus' introduction again.

"Hello everyone, unless another lightshow wants to happen I'm about to introduce myself." Marcus waited exactly two seconds before continuing. "No? Good, alright. Hello everyone... I just said that didn't I?" Luckily, the teen received a few laughs at that; he hoped they were at the joke at least. Brushing some bright red hairs out of his face, Marcus continued. "Anyway, I'll keep this brief. My name is Marcus Du Nord and I will be learning with all of you for the next three years." The boy let the murmurs arise as he concluded his brief introduction.

Marcus observed the reactions of everyone in the room starting with his cousin. Ursula had a conflicted look on her face, she was smiling at the boy for embracing his heritage, but her furrowed brow told him that she was concerned about how this would affect his school life. Then he looked to the rest of the teachers, they didn't seem to immediately disapprove of him, which was a start at least. The student body however was a mixed bag, no one seemed happy to hear the name Du Nord but the looks on the girls' faces varied from confused to snide, Marcus did note one girl with blonde hair giving him a pained look however.

Lastly, Marcus looked to the latecomers. One of them was completely indifferent, one looked concerned for the boy and the third one... well she surprised Marcus to say the least.

The look on the girl's face as Marcus' bright red eyes made contact with her crimson ones was one of pure glee, she was so ecstatic that he thought she might pounce on him like a rabid fan would after seeing their idol.

He had no idea how close he was with that analogy.

Humming away to himself, the young Du Nord was following another map that would lead him to his room. Apparently his room was on the ground floor since he had to pass by the cafeteria. After passing by a couple of storerooms, the boy came upon a door that looked like it hadn't been opened since the academy was rebuilt. Releasing his hold on his suitcase and setting down his bags, Marcus went to open the door.

It didn't budge.

The boy applied a bit more force this time. The door creaked and rattled, its hinges doing everything to keep Marcus out. Releasing a sigh and giving up on forcing the door open, Marcus unhooked his wand from his belt.

'Can't believe I'm using this thing already.' The teen thought as he pointed the wand at the door. "Let's see tidiare or tiextrilla?" Marcus pondered as he tried to think of if the door counted as an uncomplicated object or complicated object, tapping his wand against his chin as he thought. After much deliberation, the boy realised he was thinking about repairing the wrong thing, he needed to repair the hinges first.

Clearing his throat, Marcus refocused his wand on the hinges of the door. "Sosomme Tidiare!" He chanted as his wand lit up and light started emanating from the door, specifically the side the hinges were on. Surprisingly, the effect of the spell did carry over to the rest of the door, making it look as pristine as the rest of the wooden doors in the school.

"Haven't lost my touch." Marcus offhandedly commented to himself as he opened the door without any resistance. Picking up his bags and suitcase, the boy went about admiring the small room he would be living in for the next three years.

It was homely.

Dropping his bags on the floor, the boy approached his new bed and flopped down on it. He had expected a cloud of dust to rise up from this action, but to his surprise it seemed like the door was the only thing that hadn't been maintained. Or to be more accurate, the door was the only thing that wasn't new.

Hopping back to his feet, Marcus started unpacking his things. Clothes went in the wardrobe, which already had spare uniforms inside of it, studying equipment went on the desk, some light reading material, novels and research papers, went on the nightstand and everything else stayed in the bags that, along with the suitcase, went in the back of the wardrobe.

Whilst admiring his new room, Marcus' stomach decided to signal its need for sustenance. Rubbing his stomach, the boy left the room and headed for the cafeteria, hopefully they had some food prepared for the new students to eat for an early dinner.

Lo and behold, they did. The cafeteria was full of students; it was highly likely that everyone was in there. Marcus looked for some food first and foremost, quickly finding it being served by Goblins. Proceeding to the back of the line, the boy waited patiently to get something to eat.

After acquiring what was to be his dinner, Marcus faced a problem.

Finding a seat.

In a room full of girls.

It suddenly dawned on the boy that he had signed up to learn in a woman dominated environment for three years...

Well, his communication skills should improve at least.

Taking a moment to consider just taking his meal back to his room and returning the tray, plates, cup and utensils afterwards, the boy noticed a hand waving at him. A hand attached to the body of a brunette with crimson eyes. Pointing to himself, Marcus wasted no time in heading over to the girls table once she nodded in confirmation.

Placing himself in a free seat, Marcus sighed in relief.

"Thank you, you have no idea how much stress you just saved me from." The red haired teen thanked the girl. While he could easily hold a conversation, Marcus wasn't the best at starting conversations. Especially with people he didn't know.

...Why had he chosen to study at a school again?

"No problem." The brunette replied with a thumbs up. "I'm Atsuko Kagari, by the way. But my friends call me Akko." Akko introduced herself energetically.

Taking this as their cue, the two girls Marcus had yet to pay heed to introduced themselves as well.

"I'm Lotte Jansson, it's nice to meet you." Lotte greeted pleasantly.

"...Sucy Manbavaran." Sucy introduced herself in a bored tone.

With the introductions out of the way, Akko immediately moved onto the question she wanted to ask.

"So you're really Chariot's brother?" The brunette asked excitedly with stars in her eyes as she awaited an answer.

"Akko! You said you were going to be subtle." Lotte chastised her friend.

"She probably doesn't even know what the word means." Sucy mocked with an evil smirk. Though it seemed Akko wasn't listening as she continued to stare at Marcus, her hands now clasped together as if pleading for an answer.

"It's alright." Marcus chuckled, unfazed by the question. "Yes, I am the brother of Chariot Du Nord." He confirmed for the brunette, a calm smile on his face.

Now how would the witch respond to that? Ridicule? Indifference? Would she mock him for being related to the 'shame of the magic world'? Marcus had heard it all, it didn't matter who said it or what they said. It all sounded the same after this long, the best the boy could do was accept it with a smile and pretend he didn't care.

"That's awesome!" Akko exclaimed.

...huh?

The brunette squealed with excitement. "What's it like having someone as cool as Chariot for an older sister? Did she teach you all her magic?" The girl started shooting off question after question without taking a breath. She finally stopped when she started feeling lightheaded and took a deep breath. "Sorry, I just have so many questions." Akko apologised.

"It's fine." Marcus replied, a small chuckle working its way into the end of the sentence. "And to answer your first two questions... I consider myself lucky for having Chariot as my older sister, she can be a handful but otherwise she's very caring and supportive." The red haired teen answered the first question with a warm smile on his face. "And... kind of. Chariot was already doing her shows when I had started studying magic, she taught me a few things but I'm mostly self-taught." He explained to answer the second question.

After answering a few more questions from Akko and making conversation with Lotte and Sucy, Marcus parted ways with the trio after they were all done eating and returned to his room.

Changing into his sleepwear so he could retire early for the night, Marcus remembered something he hadn't taken out of his suitcase. Pulling the case out of the wardrobe, the boy retrieved a brown, leather pouch. Unclipping the flap that kept the pouch closed, Marcus checked on the contents.

A full deck of twenty-two tarot cards.

Zero to twenty-one. The Fool arcana to the World arcana.

His treasure since he was a little kid.

Clipping the pouch closed, Marcus set it on his desk so he would remember to take it with him in the morning.

With that done, the teen crawled into bed and tried to get to sleep ready for the day ahead.
