Introduction

Apollo dies and Artemis starts to loss everything. Twins can't survive without the other. As Olympus ignores the signs off her dying. But just as she gives up the fight, the most important person in her life comes back to nurse her back to health no matter the cost...

Chapter 1: Death of a Soul

Artemis was out hunting. She had to keep herself occupied because off her brother's punishment. She absolutely hated it when their father made her brother mortal. Mortal meant vulnerable. So it always terrified her. That her beloved twin could get hurt and she wouldn't be able to help. She refused to think about what else could happen.

Despite what everyone believed she adored, loved and treasured her twin brother like he did her. They had something nobody could understand besides other godly twins which there weren't. They had a bond stronger then any other. They had secrets they refused to share with others. Secrets that Artemis thought was obvious if people paid attention.

Every time they were forced apart by punishments it hurt the other. So Artemis had taken to hunting to try and distract herself. After having healed her brother only a couple off weeks ago. It had been close but she had gotten to him in time.

Now she stalked through the forest her bow drawn as she hunted a deer that was close to her. But when she was about to let the arrow lose a tremor went through her body making her gasp.

The bow in her hands fell from her grasp as pain shot through her heart, mind and soul. Agonising pain shot through her every being. Every fibre, every cell of her being.

A scream of pain, agony, grief, loss and despair past her lips as she began to fall to the ground. She looked at the sun as she fell seeing it flash out.

Her scream made wildlife scatter for miles. As she leaned her forehead on the grass the green grass died and turned brown and dead. Flowers wilted and died. Tree leaves turned brown and fell off. As the wilderness for two miles died around the despairing Moon Goddess.

Her head rested on the ground tears falling down her face onto the dead grass. As a sob tore through her throat. As shear agony tore through her very soul.

"Please...please no", Artemis begs crying her forehead leaning on the grass.

She felt half off herself die. And there was only one way that could happen. She shared her soul with one person. A bond closer then blood. She shared her soul with her brother. She held half off his as he held...did hold half her soul. She felt it die. She felt HIS soul inside her die.

There was only one way that could happen and she sobbed as grief and pain tore into her. Her brother was...dead. No it couldn't be true.

She looked up at the sun. It not feeling right to her. It didn't feel like her brother. It had ALWAYS had before even when he was punished.

Artemis staggers up and whimpers as her body is unbalanced without half a soul. She had to find out. She had to SEE her brother. She PRAYED she was wrong. That her body was lying to her.

"Please, please don't let him be dead", Artemis prays flashing out of the dead clearing she had created.

Artemis appears at Camp Half-Blood. Seeing signs off a battle. She walks forward in a daze. Not paying attention to anyone. She walked onwards demigods now moving out off her way. She doesn't even see the looks they were giving her. Or hear the words that were being spoken to her. She doesn't even care. As she approaches a group of people.

They start to part seeing her. Artemis walks forward towards a figure lying on the ground with a girl and boy leaning over the person.

'Please, please, no, no', she thinks

Artemis recognises the figures leaning over the body as Will Solace a son of her brothers and Meg McCraffrey. She steals herself. As she sees the mortal body of her beloved twin. His eyes staring blankly ahead. She sees the sword in his chest. And several other wounds all over his body. Killing blows.

She kneels down and puts her hand on her bro...his body.

"Brother please awake up", Artemis says in twin speak a secret gift between the twins.

A whole secret language just for the two of them. Nobody else could understand.

"Aunt Artemis I'm so sorry", Will says choking back tears

Artemis doesn't respond as pain shoots through her body. Her mind trying to process the fact her twin was dead. Her body trying to cope with the fact an important part of her body was dead. What was left of her soul was struggling.

"There is nothing I could do", Will says sorrowfully

"I know", Artemis whispers keeping a blank look on her face.

"Lady Artemis why isn't he coming back? Why isn't he a God again?" Meg asks

"He was mortal", Artemis states staring at her brothers dead eyes

She was holding back her tears. Her grief could wait. It would have too. Artemis reaches out and shuts his eyes disguising the tremors in her hand.

"What do we do now My Lady?" Thalia asks in sympathy

"We must go to Olympus and report to Council", Artemis tells everyone not looking away from her brother.

Gathering her inner strength she makes a gold shroud with a silver sun on it.

"Gather round and I'll teleport us all to the Throne Room", Artemis tells them

Will, Meg, Thalia and Several others gather around. Will and his siblings lifting Ap...her brothers body up. She bites back a whimper.

"Take hold off each other", Artemis instructs softly

They do and Artemis puts her hand on Will's shoulder and flashes them too Olympus. They Throne Room was empty but Hermes. Who looks up in shock.

"Hermes call Council", Artemis instructs

"Wh...", Hermes starts

"Call Council", Artemis snaps knowing she can't do it.

She wasn't in any shape.

Hermes nods and brings out his Caduceus and hits the floor sending out a signal. As flashes off light appear around the room. Artemis looks at the Throne of Ap...her brother. The Throne next to hers. It was crumbling. Showing that he was truly gone. She tries not to stumble to her throne.

She seats only paying half attention to the room. Hearing shouts off disbelief.

"What happened?"

Artemis hears her father roar. Artemis was staring at her brothers shrouded body. Praying for a miracle.

'Please just one miracle', Artemis thinks begging, 'Please don't take him from me'

Artemis only hears half the tale off her brothers sacrifice saving Meg's life and going up against the Python as a mortal. And dying off multiple injuries from the Python then Nero.

'Only you my beloved twin would take on your arch nemesis mortal. When you barely escaped when immortal', Artemis thinks

The tales turns to Nero's end still she was only half listening.

Why hadn't SHE been there? Why couldn't she have saved him? Why did he have to die? Why did he have to be the one to leave her?

She only barely hears the end of the tale.

"...he just said 'I'm sorry Fawn' and died", Meg ends the tale

Everyone but Artemis was confused by that. But not Artemis. She had many names. And many nicknames. And besides being Little Moon or Moonlet to Ap...her brother, he sometimes called her Fawn or Bambi if he was being cheeky. And off course the most used nickname Arty. Which she didn't hate. It reminded her off when he was born. Not able to say her full name instead naming her 'Arty' and it stuck for life.

She still couldn't believe she would never hear those nicknames again. But then again it hopefully was just a matter of time.

She hears them arguing. She no longer cared. Nothing mattered to her anymore.

"We need to send him off", she spoke up suddenly

Everyone turned to her shocked. Artemis could tell them had forgotten she was there. Not that it mattered anymore. Nothing mattered to her anymore.

"Artemis?" Athena asks hesitantly

"We build a pyre on Delos. We will send him off like he deserves. A hero's send off", Artemis informs them ignoring Athena.

"Why Delos and not Camp?" Hermes asks

"It all began on Delos. It is where it will end", Artemis replies robotically

"Then Tonight we gather. Hermes, Hephaestus build the pyre. Everyone else gather those who want to say...goodbye and Artemis...", Zeus starts

Everyone turns to the Throne of Artemis to find the Moon Goddess herself gone from her throne. Which they didn't notice had dimmed in power. They also didn't see the first crack appear.

"We'll get to work I'm sure Artemis will be there", Zeus says to everyone

Everybody nodded solemnly. They all wondered how this happened. How did Apollo die when he would have had his power restored?

What would happen now that one of the so-called Twin Archers was dead?...
