Okay, so I'll admit that it's been a while since I've been writing. The lack of attention was just a bit disappointing, to be honest. However, after binging through the English Dub of Beastars and reading through the first four volumes of the manga (the official Viz translation. I'm aware of the fan translation, but I wanted an official copy), I am officially hooked. This anime is so amazing.

Anyway, I had this in mind even before I finished everything, and now that I've at least watched the first season, I think I'm ready to put this into action. Also, just to clarify, if the English dub's second season hasn't dropped by the time I get to the end of the first season's events (which might be a while considering usual turnaround for anime), I will hold off on continuing until that either happens, or the English manga goes past that point.

So, before I start rambling, it's time to get started, so I hope you enjoy!

In a world where carnivores and herbivores try their best to live in harmony (despite quite a bit of growing pains), one of these cities would seem very unassuming to the public eye.

However, this city has something that helps it stand out from all of the other cities in this world.

On a large hill overlooking said city stood Cherryton Academy, a school that only accepts the best of the animal kingdom.

On campus stood a large auditorium where the infamous and well-known Cherryton Drama Club carried out their meetings and performances.

Every year, the Drama Club puts on a performance of Adler for the new students, and it just so happened to be the second night of said performance.

In the crowd of new students sat a German Shepherd named Ginji, his muzzle resting in his hand as he rested his arm against his armrest, bored out of his mind as he tried to pay attention to the performance.

Now, in his defense, he could see the tiger (at least he thought it was a tiger judging from the stripes he could see on his arms) was putting on a pretty good performance, although the pauses in his dialogue and his nervous movements made it pretty clear to Ginji that he wasn't exactly a hundred percent prepared. His good seat combined with his natural ability to sense small details that most others wouldn't see made it somewhat interesting despite the dry source material.

Even then, he was never one to like classical performances that much. He found them uninteresting, unlike the musicals he liked seeing back when he was a pup.

Still, his Cherryton acceptance letter told him that he had to attend one of the performances, and he heard on social media that the first performance usually involved a lot of pomp and circumstance for the new students (which he really didn't want to be involved with), so he decided to go to the second day's performance that most of the normal students tended to attend.

As the play wore on, Ginji's eyes began to wander, looking around the auditorium at all of the other animals.

Now, while most of them didn't have any kind of features that could catch the eternally bored Ginji's attention, there was a small group of animals near the front that caused even him to perk up.

There was a group of what appeared to be Canidae sitting all together, and they looked to be pretty close together.

"I wonder if they're my new roommates?" thought Ginji to himself as he watched them for a few moments.

Between an English sheepdog on the left and a Fennec Fox sitting on the back of his seat on the right, there was a hyena and a coyote as well.

However, the last one of the group was what really caught his attention.

A golden retriever right in the middle of the group looked to be in a quiet conversation with the hyena next to him, but as he stared down at him, he couldn't help but find him oddly familiar.

Leaning forwards, Ginji focused his attention on the retriever, hoping that he would do something to turn his head so that he could get some more of his features to hopefully jog his memory.

However, just as he was about to turn around, a loud gasp came from the audience, and both Ginji and the retriever returned their attention back to the stage just in time to find the tiger playing Adler spinning through the air before coming to a stop with a crash.

"What the hell?" thought Ginji, confused.

Despite not having seen Adler before, Ginji could tell something was up.

It took a few seconds before his questions were answered, when out of the corner of his eye a large wolf rushed towards the tiger, mounting him before repeatedly punching him in the face.

"Whoa, didn't expect that." said Ginji to himself, sitting up in his seat as he was engrossed in the action going on in front of him.

For the next few moments, the only real sound was the cries of anguish from the wolf as he tried to beat the tiger's face in.

However, it wasn't long before the tiger blocked one of the wolf's strikes, standing up with the wolf's hand still in his grip before letting go and wrapping his hands around the wolf's midsection.

With the tiger's back to the crowd, Ginji couldn't really see the wolf outside of his face resting against the tiger's shoulder and his feet between the tiger's legs.

"What is he doing?"

Ginji's silent question was quickly answered when his ears were assaulted with the sound of tearing flesh, his hand covering his muzzle in shock as blood dripped on to the stage, the wolf's cries of pain coming through quite clearly in the nearly silent auditorium.

"I have to go." thought Ginji to himself, immediately standing up and nervously shuffling his way past the animal sitting next to him and bowing in apology before rushing out of the auditorium.

Rushing around the corner, Ginji came to a stop by the auditorium wall. He could hear cheers coming from inside, but he was lost inside his mind as the attack he witnessed brought back very traumatic memories.

Frightened, Ginji sat down against the wall, pressing his legs against his chest as he wrapped his arms around them, rubbing his hand against a particular spot on his left arm as he tried his best to calm down.

Eventually, Ginji could hear chatter coming from the front of the auditorium, and even though he didn't feel ready to go, he wanted to be seen in his state by the others even less, so he pushed through and stood up, brushing the dust off of his new uniform as he slipped into the crowd.

Doing his best to keep his mind off of what happened, Ginji followed the crowd, watching the herbivores head into the herbivore dorm before he finally came up to the carnivore dorm soon after.

After stepping inside, Ginji took a few moments to look around the room and take in the sights of where he was going to stay for the next few years.

"Nice place." he said, giving a low whistle before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a piece of paper that he unfolded to reveal his Cherryton acceptance letter.

While slightly crumpled due to the time spent in said pocket, Ginji treasured the paper, and once he was done with what he needed, he was going to find a way to frame it.

Skimming down the contents of the letter, Ginji eventually found where he was supposed to go.

"701. Canidae dorm. Hm, sounds about right." he commented to himself, remembering hearing about how the dorms were divided by classification.

Making his way up the stairs, Ginji soon came up to the dorm in question, and after fishing out the key he was given, he unlocked the door and headed inside to find it empty, the German Shepherd no doubt having beaten his roommates there.

Ginji took a moment to look around his new living quarters, finding a set of three bunk beds as well as a smaller bed nearby, no doubt for that fennec fox he remembered seeing back at the play.

Ginji briefly considered taking a closer look at some of the beds to see what his roommates were like, but he didn't feel great prying too much into their lives, and before he could even make the decision, the door opened to reveal his roommates, talking animatedly before they came to a stop having noticed the new visitor.

However, it wasn't too much longer before the sheepdog smiled, his tail wagging as he saw the German Shepherd in front of him.

"Hey, you must be our new roommate!" he said.

At the sheepdog's words, most of the others immediately rushed forwards to greet Ginji, forming a sort of circle of excitement as Ginji stood there, slightly taken aback by the sudden attention he's gotten.

Not everyone was in that circle, however, as when Ginji looked towards the door, he found the retriever staring at him with a look of shock on his face, and then it suddenly hit him who he was.

"Jack?"

Ginji managed to push himself out of the gaggle of Canidae, stopping in front of the retriever who he believed he would never see again.

Memories flooded into Ginji's mind of back when he was a kid, when he met Jack, spending time with him, when they…fell apart.

His thoughts were soon interrupted when Jack collided with him, nearly knocking him over as the retriever hugged him.

"Oh my god, Ginji! I can't believe it's you!" said Jack, his voice somewhat muffled from being pressed against Ginji's shirt.

"Jack…" said Ginji, still somewhat stunned. "I didn't know you were studying here."

"Of course!" said Jack, finally letting him go and stepping back a few inches to take him in. "I'm a second year here like the others."

"Wow, that's pretty cool." said Ginji, a small smile on his face despite the memories being still in the back of his mind.

As much as he wanted to hide it, unfortunately Jack noticed the look on his face, and his own expression fell a bit.

"Hey, listen, I'm sorry we couldn't have been friends longer than we were."

"No, it's fine." said Ginji, waving off Jack's concerns. "I remember your mom telling me about how you were going through that phase where you were making friends with anything with a pulse."

Jack couldn't help but chuckle despite the slightly mean-spirited joke.

However, before they could start to fully catch up, the door opened, and when Ginji saw who was in the doorway, his eyes widened, his pupils dilating as the memories of the incident not long ago came flooding back as the wolf he saw on the stage entered the room, wincing heavily as he shrugged off his backpack and placed it near one of the beds.

While Ginji involuntarily took a step backwards, Jack smiled as he saw the wolf sat down on the bed.

"Hey, Legoshi! Great work up there!"

The wolf, who Ginji now knew to be named Legoshi, started, looking around the room before his eyes eventually landed on the newcomer.

"Oh! Uh…hello. Who might you be?" said Legoshi, catching Ginji off guard as the wolf who he just saw beating the snot out of a tiger not long ago sounded incredibly reserved and awkward.

"G-Ginji." he said, having taken a few seconds to snap out of his stupor. "I'm, um…your new roommate, I guess?"

"Really?" said Legoshi, his eyes widening a bit. "Well, it's nice to meet you. I was getting so used to spending time with these guys, I guess it's pretty nice we get to meet someone new of our species."

"Oh! Guess what, Legoshi?" said Jack, sounding playful as he leaned down to meet Legoshi at eye level.

"Uh, what?" he asked, puzzled.

"Ginji's not just any old pup, Legoshi. He actually used to be an old friend of mine, even before we became best friends!"

Both Ginji and Legoshi were surprised to hear this news from the retriever, the former because he didn't think that Jack and Legoshi were the type to be friends, and the latter because he didn't ever recall Jack mentioning him before.

"Really? You didn't say anything about any other friends to me, Jack."

"Oh, sorry." said Jack, scratching at the back of his head. "I was going through a phase for a while before we met, and Ginji kind of got lost in the shuffle of all of the friends I had back then."

Ginji could tell Legoshi looked puzzled hearing about this news, but the wolf didn't say anything further, choosing instead to lie down on his bed facing away from the others, almost rolling on to his back before he flinched and rolled back on to his side.

Jack couldn't help but be concerned as he watched Legoshi lie down.

"You okay there, Legoshi? Bill looked like he did a number on you."

"I'm alright." he said. "I got wrapped up once I got backstage. Louis wasn't happy with us, though. We nearly got suspended from the club before he changed his mind."

"That's odd. Louis isn't the type to change his mind, being a future Beastar and all."

Ginji's mind latched on to the mention of the word Beastar, not expecting to hear that an herbivore was trying to attain the title that he only remembered carnivores holding.

"Well, we all got stopped by the PR department and some of Louis's fangirls. They apparently really liked the performance, so Louis changed his mind."

"Sounds like Louis isn't completely heartless then, huh?"

"I guess."

Legoshi shuffled a bit in his bed, before sitting up and pulling off his shirt, revealing a set of bandages poking out from his undershirt.

"Listen, I'm going to go to bed." he said, returning to his original position and giving Ginji a full view of his injuries, some slight bloodstains showing through the white fabric. "It's been a long day."

"Oh, okay." said Jack. "We'll help get Ginji settled in."

"Yeah, sure." said Legoshi. "Keep it down, though."

Before anyone could say anything more, Legoshi pulled the curtain over his bed, a pair of shoes falling to the floor before they could only hear Legoshi's silent breathing as he slept.

Everyone else stared at the closed bed for a few moments, with Ginji noting the name and cute little drawing of Legoshi above it. He assumed that it must be the same with all of the beds, possibly even his.

The silence was soon broken, though, when Jack started, lightly slapping his head as he realized he'd forgotten to do something important.

"Oh man, with everything going on, I completely forgot to introduce everyone!"

With his voice slightly lowered so as not to wake up Legoshi, Jack pointed towards each of the other dogs in the room.

"That's Collot." he said, pointing at the sheepdog.

"Hi!" said Collot, waving.

"The hyena over there is Miguno."

"Yo."

"The coyote is Durham."

"How's it going?" said Durham, smiling.

"And lastly, the little guy is Voss."

Said little guy thankfully ignored the jibe at his height, walking forwards and reaching out with a hand, which Ginji took and shook after kneeling down so that they were at the same eye level.

"Good to meet you all." said Ginji quietly, also wanting to avoid waking Legoshi.

"As much as I want to spend some more time with you, it is getting kind of late." said Jack, stepping in. "Classes start early tomorrow, and we need to be ready and raring to go!"

Ginji had a half smile on his face as he watched Jack, the retriever quickly covering his mouth as he realized he was getting too excited and spoke too loudly.

Clearing his throat, Jack collected his thoughts before guiding Ginji to another corner of the room, remembering to keep his voice down this time.

"The closets are over here. Each of us has our own, and I see you've got one right on the end there!"

With Jack's hand still on his shoulder, Ginji looked towards where he was pointing and saw that there was indeed a closet with his name and picture on it similar to how it looked on Legoshi's bed.

Reaching forwards, he pulled it open to find his suitcase on the floor, the staff having brought it up here when he first arrived on campus.

Ginji was about ready to start unpacking his stuff, but before he could do so, Jack pulled him away to another part of the room.

"The bathroom's over here. It's pretty roomy. It's got showers, sinks, and toilets for big animals like Collot and Legoshi, small ones for Voss, and medium size ones for the rest of us. It's pretty great, huh?"

"Uh, yeah…sure." said Ginji, taken aback by Jack's peppy mood.

"Awesome. I think that's about it. You've seen the beds. It looks like you're sharing a bunk with Miguno."

Ginji looked over towards the beds, scanning each of the frames and finding his name and picture on the top bunk on the left, the bottom most likely belonging to Miguno if the picture of the hyena on the middle frame was any indication.

"Good night, everyone! Good night, Ginji." said Jack, quickly climbing into the bunk above Legoshi and removing his shirt, closing his curtain.

As everyone else started to head to bed, Miguno walked over to Ginji, giving the German Shepherd a light bump with his hip.

"Looks like we're bunkmates, huh?" he said.

"I guess so." said Ginji, attempting to smile but failing.

"Hey, don't worry about a thing." he said, nearly sending Ginji sprawling with a smack on the shoulder. "We're going to make you feel right at home."

"That's good to hear." said Ginji quietly, his voice drowned out by Miguno's somewhat loud yawning as he stretched out his back.

"G'night, Ginji."

"Night."

After Miguno soon disappeared behind his curtain, Ginji walked over to his closet, briefly considering unpacking everything, but after a moment of thought, he decided to do it tomorrow when he had time.

Walking towards his bed, Ginji grabbed the ladder before climbing into his new bed.

The German Shepherd took a few moments before officially getting ready for bed, testing out the mattress as he lightly shifted his body in a few directions against it.

"Hmm, not bad." he said to himself, satisfied.

Removing his shirt, Ginji hung it on the bed pole near his head before lying down, wearing his uniform pants and an undershirt not unlike Legoshi's.

With a sigh, Ginji flopped on to the mattress, finding a good position before he finally closed his eyes, eager to finally start his new life at Cherryton Academy.
