Chapter 16

Seeley Booth couldn't remember the last time he was stress free, the last time he wasn't worried about a case or someone harming his loved ones. He couldn't remember a time where he felt free like he did in the mountains. It had been two days of hiding out in the cabin with his girlfriend only venturing as far as their front porch to the hot tub, and he was loving each and every second of it.

"I am not saying it's a bad idea, I'm just saying that we are doing pretty well with physical activity in this cabin and I don't see why we have to go hiking." He winked though he was completely ignored as Bones walked around the bedroom putting on a tank and workout leggings preparing to go on the hike up to the top of the rocks.

"Booth, you found us the perfect cabin in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. I know I was the one who suggested we hide out here but I am not suggesting we go out and actually see the scenery up close." Brennan insisted and he knew he was not going to be able to get out of this one with her.

Moving behind her he wrapped her arms around her waist to stop her from moving around and kissed her neck. "I happen to think I have the most beautiful scary right here, I don't need to see it out there." He whispered chuckling when she heavily sighed. "Okay, we'll go on the hike and do whatever you want. Anything for you, babe."

She spun around in his arms and grinned back at him. "Don't call me babe." She warned and he rolled his eyes knowing that he had only heard her say that about a hundred times and it still hadn't stopped him.

"Sorry, honey." He teased ducking as she swatted at him. "Okay geez, no need to get violent." Winking at her he grabbed them some bottled water and slipped on his tennis shoes. "Shall we?"

They hiked from the cabin over to the trail to the top of the rocks and he looked up at the top of the weirdly shaped structure. "We're going to the top." She declared and he nodded expecting nothing less from her.

There were only a couple other hikers around as they made small talk slowly making their way through the pathways, stopping only to get a drink or to take in the scenery. "For someone who has to be in top shape for the FBI, you sure aren't showing it right now." She noticed as they took a break and sat down on the ledge, their feet dangling over the rocks.

"Nothing in my job subscription states that I must climb to the top of a rock formation, Bones." He glared and she giggled leaning into him as they watched some rock climbers in the distance. That had been her first idea, but he had quickly turned her down stating he had no intention on 'pinching his goods for recreation'. "This is really nice though." He added and she smiled happily that he was happy.

Really she had never seen him so happy nor had she felt so happy herself. Though she hadn't been so sure about taking a vacation so suddenly, it was becoming extremely noticeable that they had needed it so badly.

"Do you still think about going to the MuMu islands?" He asked suddenly causing her to jump slightly as she looked over at him.

"Muluku and no, well I did during the trial when I was considering quitting but I haven't really thought about going. I told them no but I have a standing offer if I change my mind." She shrugged. "Why do you ask?"

He shrugged in return. "I've just been worried about you, thinking that maybe I'm preventing you from doing what makes you happy." His voice was so soft and she frowned before kissing him.

"You are what makes me happy, you know that. While it would be a great opportunity, I am not actively considering going. Even when I was considering quitting what we do, I hadn't really thought of Indonesia too much." She sighed as she watched a bird fly over the horizon. "I haven't thought about work since we got here, do we really have to talk about it now?"

His arm around wrapped her waist pulling her closer into his side as he rested his chin on top of her head. "Of course, I guess I was just worried about you still." She hummed in response and pulled back slightly to look at him. "What?"

Chuckling she kissed him. "I just love you I guess." She grinned trying to stand up to continue their hike but he stopped her. "Booth." Brennan whined.

"You guess?" He asked and she rolled her eyes instantly. "You guess?" He repeated and she sighed, shaking her head as she cupped his cheek.

"I love you, I know." She finally said. "Is that better? Can we make it to the top now?" If there was one thing she had learned upon dating Booth that she hadn't known before as just his partner was that he definitely had the flare for the dramatics so when he groaned and threw his head back she was not surprised.

"I guess, but you owe me when we get back." He murmured as he stood up and helped her up in the process. Giggling she wrapped her arms around his waist and hummed before kissing him.

"That is a satisfactory offer." She agreed.
