"Shamac!" A black cloud of magical fog erupted from a young man, encasing the lush grass field in its dark illusion. To any mage worth their salt, they would immediately realise that it was a spell from the yin element. However, it didn't very long. The black fog was in the air for no more than five seconds before it dispersed into the atmosphere. The young man who had cast this spell smiled as he focused on some sort of screen in front of him.
[Shamac has gained another level, it is now level ten]
[Shamac has reached level ten, to celebrate this milestone, the cost of the spell had decreased by one]
[Shamac| Active| LV 10 (0.00%)
A starter spell for any yin mage, Shamac is used to entrap an enemy in a black fog, however, while they cannot move, they can still feel the sensation of their body, such as pain or the ground beneath their feet. However, an opponent with a high enough WIL stat can escape from Shamac, forcing the spell to dispel. The size and the timeframe that Shamac lasts for increases for every level in this skill (size = 2 metres x level of skill, timeframe = 30 seconds x level of skill). It can be dispelled prematurely upon the users wish to do so.
MP Cost- 9]
[You control over your gate has improved, +1 GAT]
"Hell yes!" The young man smiled, his body only felt a little bit drained, as he had cast Shamac ten times, however, he could still cast Shamac ninety times, that was before he decreases in its cost. He had completed his goal of improving the level of his only magic skill as he even gained an increase in his GAT stat. He felt great satisfaction at this fact, having gained a little bit more strength. He knew how it felt to be weak, the images of his various deaths plagued his dreams often, but he tried to use such horrible experiences as motivation to grow stronger.
Although he possessed the Authority of Pride that allowed him to turn back time upon death, since he had appeared in this world, he had always been afraid of death. Always looking over his shoulder like a scared puppy, it was both pathetic and sad. But despite his fears and the phantom pains that acted up every now and then, he was able to dissuade anyone who took notice of his fears. He had concluded that his high CHA stat was probably the cause of those unlikely successes.
His resolve was thin, as thin a paper but he knew that he couldn't tell anyone of his curse. He couldn't be a burden, and he doubted anyone would believe him anyway. Although the power he received upon his entry to this world was unique and was instead a Divine Protection rather than an Authority derived from witch genes. He had the power that made his reality a video game. With it, his growth was limitless and he could master anything given enough time.
It truly was a fantastic ability to be given by Od Laguna.
However, at the moment, the young man was absolutely sure that he was alone in the lush green fields that surrounded Roswal's mansion. The grass freshly cut and the trees trimmed in a way that they seemed to swell with pride. Last he heard, Emilia was in the library, studying for the upcoming election, a meeting comprising of the Sage Council, Luginca's nobles, and the other Dragon Maiden Candidates that was in two weeks time. The demon sister's, Rem and Ram, were preparing dinner. Beatrice was playing hikikomori and stayed within her door crossing every waking minute unless it was time to eat. Roswal himself was in his private office, going over the monthly tax reports that he had received from Arlam just yesterday evening. He may have not seen the pile, but judging that the margrave had been within his office since noon, the young man could only guess that the pile was massive. Despite his job as a butler at the mansion, he was not needed at the moment, and thus took this brief time of freedom as an opportunity to train.

Subaru had only gained his current level thanks to completing high-levelled quests that he had only completed because of the Authority Return By Death. If he didn't possess this curse, he would have had only one life and he wouldn't have survived his first day in this new world. Despite the pain he had suffered, he was somewhat grateful to the person who had gifted him the ability, for it he wasn't given Return By Death, he wouldn't have been able to save Emilia. Satella, the Witch of Envy, who had possessed all the Witch Genes by absorbing all seven witches that had walked upon the earth four hundred years ago. Her name was taboo, just saying it would make an enemy of everyone within earshot it. She had destroyed most of the world during her attempt to find ultimate power, only being stopped by the collective strength of the Sage, the Sages Apprentince and Sword Saint, Flugel, Shaula and Reid. It was she, the most despicable woman in history who had given him the Authority of Pride.
The perk he had received from her, Witch Of Envy's Love, was more of a curse than a blessing if Subaru was being entirely honest. He passively, at all moments of day smelled of her cult, the Witches Miasma, which had resulted in his repeated death by the hands of Rem two weeks prior. Although, there was the side benefit that her cult wasn't after his blood at the moment, as he smelled like the Satella, who was the object of the cult's affections and was thus considered one of the 'blessed few'. If he had a choice, Subaru would not have possessed this perk, but it seemed that that option had been slapped from his fingers.
Once a perk was not obtained, it cannot be discarded. He had learned this bitterly.
He had gained a total of five levels after saving Emilia from Elsa and had in turn receive the title 'Dragon Maiden Candidate Saviour'. This title increases his CHA by twenty-five, which helped him gain affection more easily with anyone he met, it seemed that only Ram was an exception. From those five levels had given him twenty-five stat points, which he was still possessed to this day. Not even five days later, he had gained five more levels by saving the children of Arlam from Mabeasts. He had in turn received twenty-five stat points and two titles from this quest, Hero of Arlam Villager, which increased his CHA by ten and 'A Man Of Only Good Timing', which increased his LCK by fifteen. Considering his ability to met his demise within every few days, he was thankful towards the title that had given some much-needed luck.
During the quest to save Arlam's children, Subaru had acquired an extra title by pushing Rem out of the way of the monsters that resided in the outskirts of Elior Forest. The title, Thawing a Demon's Frosted Heart, which was an amazing title no matter how the young man looked at it. It increases his STR, STM, and VIT by five points each, it also maxed out Rem's Affection. Subaru appreciated that he didn't have the blue-haired after his blood but was instead after his affections. It was a drastic change, but not am unwelcome one, even if he still loved Emilia. The last two levels were gained by occasionally slaying the Wolgram's in the forest that was next to the village at night after his shifts at the mansion. As long as he had SP points to spend, Subaru could stay up for all of eternity if needed.
The Wolgrams has resided in the outskirts of Eliot Forest had an average level of fifteen, giving twenty-two thousand and five hundred EXP each. Which was a lot, but their numbers were not limited, as the more he killed, the more they appeared. Although gaining experience was a good thing for his own strength, as his level increased, he would receive five stat points, there was also a downside. If Subaru killed too many of the Wolgram in the outskirts of Eliot Forest, he would have the unfortunate pleasure of facing against their 'king'.
Their king had only one goal and that was to kill Subaru and it almost had. It had a level of twenty instead of fifteen, which was an eight levels difference and that alone had taken him by surprise. He was not strong enough to face it and thus the young man had restricted his levelling speed. Subaru had spent the past two weeks working in Roswal's mansion, earning twelve copper coins per hour during his fourteen hour shifts. It was hard work, his back always sore and his arms tired when he rested on his bed. Normally, his butter services involved general maintenance of Roswal's mansion and cooking meals. Ram always took a moment to criticise his cooking, saying it had the appeal of dirt or that it was a wonder it wasn't burnt.
It was obvious that the pink-haired demon didn't lie to him one bit, but despite the insults he received daily, he was glad that he asked for this job when he saved Emilia. He earned a steady income, had a roof over his head, and had learned the language of this world. Although, but asking for these jobs as a reward for saving Emilia, he now has a roof over his head and had a stable income. Smiling at the recent light and happy memories, Subaru noticed that his MP had been refilled, like water filling a glass cup. Subaru cast Shamac once more.
He had at least half an hour until it was time to serve dinner to Emilia, Beatrice and Roswal. Subaru hoped he could cast Shamace at least a hundred times.
Subaru stood by Emilia's side, she had finished the main course and he had just served her desert. It was a small cheesecake, one could instantly tell that Rem was the one to cook it. Despite Ram's various insults on his cooking, he was sure her own food was worse than his. As the half-elf ate, the young man recounts his advances in magic, he had gained another level on Shamac and had gained two more points in his GAT stat. Original, that says only had four points in it and was very hard to increase. It had taken him a full four days to even get the stat up to scratch to use Shamac on a somewhat regular basis.
He had come a long way since then, as he now had eight hundred and fifty MP and could use Shamac ninety-four times. That was without the increased regeneration of his MP, which was now at 144.5 per minute. He could now, theoretically cast the yin spell infinitely. He would still cast it when he had time to spare, steadily increasing its level, but he wanted to learn a new spell. Some would have to ask Puck tomorrow for one. He could try to ask Beatrice, who he had learned was a spirit who specialised in yin magic.
Although he doubted that would go well. While their relationship has improve where she does not suck every trace of MP he had like a child with a milkshake, Subaru still felt like he was walking in eggshells. He could barely last five minutes before he was thrown out of her hidden library. He could still remember when he lost Reputation, (which was the lesser version of Affection) whenever he met her. That was a frightening time, even more so when he had to watch his back against a psychopathic Rem. He shivered at the memory, phantom pains of his arm being torn off by a spiked Morningstar.
"You okay, Subaru?" Emilia asked, turning her head to look at her in concern. She had finished her cake, the young man noticed. Nodding his head, he gave a shaky smile, still unnerved by the memory of death that resides within his soul. He took the half-elf's plate, realising that he would get reprimanded by Ram for his lack of attention. He walked through the halls that he had memorised during his serval loops and found the kitchen with practiced ease. He saw the dishes that were used to make the dinner that those at the dining table ate just minutes ago.
"Better wash these," he muttered, thinking that if he did the dishes, Ram would ease her some-what hurtful insults. He turned the kitchen tap on, hot water heated by enchantments splashing into the sink. He had sadly learned that there was no such thing as soap in this world, so he always felt like he was missing something. Fortunately, there cologne and perfumes, so he used that to keep himself fresh. He had gained a skill that increased the productivity and the cleanliness of the dish he washed for each level he gained. It was useful, making his normal mediocre washing skill all that much better. He was glad that no one in this world knew of modern electronics, so no one could call him a human dishwasher. Each dish was washed with care and precision, for he knew that if he didn't do an adequate job, Ram would have even more reason to insult him.
"Barusu," Ram stood behind him, but Subaru didn't respond, he kept washing the dishes. However, the pink-haired demon continued "Do you lack the proper attention span to not pay attention to Emilia-san's dishes," it wasn't a question, but an insult. She often did this, her pet name for him actually meant balls. Sure his self-esteem took a hit at the nickname at first, but he had gotten used to it. Despite the clear dislike she poured at him like heavy rain on a daily basis, he still cared for her. Subaru considered her a friend, although not a close one, but still a dear friend.
He didn't have any of those from where he came from.
"Sorry, I'll try to improve on it," he picked up a pot, used to boil potatoes, as he could see the remnants of starch around the walls of the metal pot. He used the sponge to scrub at the starch, knowing it would be a pain to get off. "Barusu," she muttered as if she wanted to say more, but her fading footsteps told Subaru that he was now alone. Sighing in relief, he gave the pot one final scrub before putting it on the drying rack. As he looked at the pile of dishes, Subaru knew that he would be here for a while.
His blade dripped blood. Black blood that Subaru recognised was Wolgram blood. The blood was thick, dripping of the metal sword like honey. He felt nothing as he watched the wounded animal looked at him, it's eyes narrowed and full of pain. It was an animal, an object of the Witch of Gluttony's hideous actions. It deserved no mercy, for it was only EXP waiting to be farmed. Moving forward, his AGL that has increased during his many fights aided him in doing so, he twirled the blade in his hand, the action successful only because of Swordsmanship skill.
Gripping his blade with two hands, Subaru sliced the Wolgram's hide, the dog-like animal screeching into the air. It had taken server damage, this was only caused by Vital Slice. The young man had learned this skill after Swordsmanship reached level ten. The skill dealt thirty percent more damage at level one, for each level he gained, it would add another one percent to the damage dealt. So right now, he would deal forty-three percent more damage on that one strike. But he cost a major amount of SP. Fifty to be precise, although it was only forty-nine now, thanks to the milestone reduction he received after level ten.
[Iron Long Sword durability has decreased by one]
Minor Wolgram- LV 15
HP- 92/650
Subaru's iron longsword had a normal rating and dealt thirty damage for each strike. Vital Slice had done 43 points of damage, which was quite a bit more than his normal damage. He followed up his heavy attack with three more slices, before ending it with a stab to the chest. The Mabeast fell, limp in death.

[Level Up!]
[You are now level thirteen]
[You have gained five stat points]
[You have continuously fought Mabeast, +1 STR, +2 STM]
[You control over you blade has improved, +2 Dex]
[Swordsmanship has gained another level, it is now level twelve]
Looking at his SP, Subaru knew that he had very little left. He stretched his sore muscles before he walked away from the Mabeast corpse. He didn't want to push his luck, despite the stat being fairly high. He wasn't strong enough to face their king and he didn't want to experience being eaten to death or being cursed again. It would be shameful to ask Beatrice to use her ability to dispel curses. He would probably be flung out of her hidden library and left to die. He didn't want to experience dying from mana exhaustion again, even if he wasn't being crushed to death by a Morningstar.
"Oh, I need to visit Arlam's blacksmith." He reminded himself out loud, knowing that his sword wouldn't last much longer if he continued at this speed. He could probably gain another level with it during the next five days, as he could only kill seven Minor Mabeast before their king arrives. That alone had been scary to find out, even if it only took two days to achieve such information. Maybe, just maybe he could afford a better sword, Subaru thought absent kindly as he walked back towards the mansion.
