ALISON (V.O.)
It's a secret.

INT. ROSEWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT - INTERROGATION ROOM - NIGHT

ARIA MONTGOMERY is sitting on a chair. She's wearing her prom dress; her hair is messy and she looks extremely tired. Detective LINDA TANNER is sitting in front of her.

ARIA
That's how it all began, even though back then we had no clue what she was talking about.

Tanner listens quietly to the girl. The camera goes back to Aria and we now see HANNA MARIN sitting on the chair. She looks equally as troubled. We realize now that these are different sessions with each of the Liars.

HANNA
She used to say secrets kept us closed. It was only a while ago that I realized...

TANNER
That it was the opposite thing.

Now we see SPENCER HASTINGS. She has a bloody lip.

SPENCER
I was always questioning her, and she didn't like that at all. She needed to believe she was in control.

TANNER
Listen, you've all been through a horrible experience. If you want to go home and do this tomorrow...

And now EMILY FIELDS is in front of her. She's crying and covering her face with both hands.

EMILY
No, I don't...

There's a moment of silence.

EMILY
It was all our fault.

ACT ONE

INT. ROSEWOOD HIGH - NIGHT (EARLIER THAT NIGHT)

Aria, Emily, Spencer and Hanna are walking through the mirror maze.

ARIA
What did the message say again?

SPENCER
"Now it's just you and me."

EMILY
God, do you think Charles would hurt her own sister?

HANNA
Well, I don't think he just wants to have cookies with her.

ARIA
Guys, we need to stay positive. Tanner is mobilizing every single cop in town. It'll only be a matter of time until they find her.

HANNA
Unless they're already on a plane to Siberia.

SPENCER
Why the hell would they go to Siberia?

HANNA
I don't know! I just thought of a place that was very far away.

EMILY
Guys, quiet! We're not alone here.

They can hear footsteps approaching them. Someone suddenly appears from behind a corner: MONA VANDERWAAL.

HANNA
God, Mona! What are you doing here?

MONA
(sarcastically)
Nice to see you too.

EMILY
Answer the question.

MONA
I got a message from Charles, asking me to come here.

ARIA
Why would Charles want you to...?

All of the girl's phones beep at the same time. They pull them out and look at the message.

ARIA
"Game over, bitches. -A"

EMILY
Oh, God. Look at the picture!

They gasp: it's Alison. She's lying on a bed, with her eyes wide open.

ARIA
Is she...?

MONA
I don't think so. I think Charles has drugged her like he did with me, when he took me to the Dollhouse. I could feel everything around me, but I couldn't even blink.

SPENCER
But where is she?

Another five beeps. They sigh and look at their phones one more time.

EMILY
These are...

SPENCER
Coordinates. Now we just need to...

MONA
It's the Kissing Rock.

They all look at her in disbelief.

MONA
What? I'm really good at multitasking.

HANNA
The Kissing Rock? But why would...?

EMILY
Wait, there's more. "If you tell the cops or anyone else..."

SPENCER
"She dies."

There's an awkward silence which Aria is the first to break.

ARIA
Okay, now what? We can't do what this freak says.

EMILY
But we have no choice! We can't leave Ali.

HANNA
Em, do you remember what happened the last time Charles got too close to us?

ARIA
And we can't just leave like that. If we don't go outside in five minutes, Tanner and the guys will come to find us.

MONA
We can go through the back door. That's how I got in, and I have my car nearby. As for your bed buddies...

The Liars look at Mona. There are some raised eyebrows.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - BATHTUB ROOM - NIGHT

A person in a black hoodie is in a dimly lit room. It's mostly empty, except for a single bathtub in the middle and two people lying unconscious in a corner: JASON and KENNETH DILAURENTIS.

After taking a look at them, the mysterious figure exits the room.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - HALLWAY - NIGHT

They lock the door and start walking through the dark and ominous hallway.

EXT. LOST WOODS RESORT - NIGHT

CALEB RIVERS and EZRA FITZ are standing outside room 1. They both look pretty agitated.

EZRA
Are we supposed to just wait here while Charles kidnaps them again?

CALEB
They said Alison was here, so...

EZRA
But they didn't just find her here. He probably lured them out.

Suddenly, his cellphone beeps. Caleb looks at him, worried.

EXT. THE WOODS - NIGHT

The five girls are in Mona's car.

SPENCER
I hope they took the bait.

EMILY
At least Sara is safe with the boys and Tanner.

Mona's phone beeps and she immediately looks at the text.

MONA
"Come out, come out, wherever you are. Alone."

EMILY
Oh, God.

HANNA
He's going to take us one by one.

They stay silent for a few seconds. Then, Mona takes a deep breath and opens the door.

HANNA
Wait, really?

MONA
What other choice do we have?

HANNA
I...

She tries to hold back the tears, to no avail.

HANNA
I just want to go home.

SPENCER
We will, Hanna. I swear, we'll all go home. We'll find a way.

ARIA
Like we always do.

EMILY
Together.

Hanna nods. Mona looks at the four of them.

MONA
Well...

She gets out of the car.

MONA
See you soon.

She closes the door and starts walking. The camera follows her from behind and, suddenly, a dark figure emerges from the bushes.

EXT. NEAR THE LOST WOODS - NIGHT

TOBY CAVANAUGH and Tanner are in a police car, watching Caleb and Ezra from a distance.

TANNER
Any more texts, Cavanaugh?

TOBY
No, ma'am. Just the one that Spencer sent.

TANNER
Which you don't actually believe.

TOBY
I just don't understand why they would lie about his, unless...

TANNER
Focus, Cavanaugh. We have to be prepared for everything.

EXT. LOST WOODS RESORT - NIGHT

Ezra reads the text.

EZRA
It's Toby. We can go inside now.

CALEB
Well, what are we waiting for?

Caleb opens the door to room 1 and they come in.

INT. LOST WOODS RESORT - ROOM 1 - NIGHT

There's no one there.

EZRA
(sighing)
Well, we should've known.

CALEB
Maybe he's already taken them.

EZRA
Or they were never here to begin with.

They share a look of dread.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

Alison screams. She gets up from the bed and, finally able to move, takes a quick look at the room she's in. The walls are covered by dozens of pictures: of her, her family, her friends... To her left there are a window and a table, and to her right...

ALISON
Oh, my God!

Four cages perfectly lined up against the wall. Inside, the Liars are starting to snap out of the drug effects. Ali goes to them.

ALISON
Are you okay, guys?

HANNA
Yeah, good as new.

ARIA
Are these animal cages?

EMILY
Extra-large ones.

HANNA
Wait.
(she looks at Spencer)
Do you think they are the same cages from Lesli's car?

SPENCER
Probably.

HANNA
So does that mean...?

The door to the room opens. A figure in a black hoodie comes inside and goes straight to the window in front.

ALISON
How could you do this to them?

There's fear and anger in her voice.

"A"
That's no way to talk to your big brother.

CHARLES DILAURENTIS turns to them. Finally, after so much time, the Liars are face to face with their tormentor. Face to face with "A". They all gasp: it's WREN KINGSTON.

ACT TWO

INT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Caleb, Ezra, Toby, Tanner and all the Liar's mothers are standing there, along with some police officers.

ELLA
We heard a noise in the basement, and then someone locked the door.

VERONICA
It had to be that boy.

TANNER
(furrowing an eyebrow)
What boy are you talking about?

ASHLEY
A so-called Rhys Matthews. He was looking for Ken, and said he worked for the Carissimi Group.

PAM
And he definitely looked like a DiLaurentis himself.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

Charles is looking at the girls, amused.

SPENCER
(completely shocked)
You... You are Charles.

EMILY
But...

CHARLES
Please, don't start with the questions already.

His English accent is completely gone now.

CHARLES
If you do, it's gonna be a really long night.

He takes a couple of contact lenses off. His eyes are actually of a deep, deep blue.

CHARLES
These things are really not great for your eyes, you knew that?

HANNA
What have you done with Mona?

Charles looks a tad annoyed.

CHARLES
Did you hear anything that I just said, Hanna? Don't worry. You'll be seeing her again in no time.

ALISON
Listen, I know it's me who you really want. Leave them out of this.

He looks at her, now with a grin on his face.

CHARLES
You have a point, Ali: I've wanted you ever since I first saw you.

INT. DILAURENTIS' OLD HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY (FLASHBACK)

A little Charlie is playing with some dolls in there.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I've always loved dolls. You can do anything to them, and they'll never talk back. And you were the perfect one.

A baby starts crying. The kid gets up and starts walking towards the source of the noise.

INT. DILAURENTIS' OLD HOUSE - BABY'S ROOM - DAY (FLASHBACK)

He looks at baby Ali, who's lying on the crib.

CHARLES (V.O.)
There was just one thing I couldn't stand: your crying.

INT. DILAURENTIS' OLD HOUSE - BATHROOM - DAY (FLASHBACK)

The boy is looking down at the tub. The baby is inside, crying her lungs out.

CHARLES (V.O.)
So I decided to make it stop.

Kenneth goes inside the bathroom and takes her daughter out of the tub. He looks at Charles, angry and in disbelief.

KENNETH
What is wrong with you?!

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - CHARLES' ROOM - DAY (FLASHBACK)

Charles is dressed in his pajamas. JESSICA DILAURENTIS comes inside the room and gets closer to him.

JESSICA
I love you, Charlie. I will always love you.

CHARLES
I love you too, mommy.

After a while, she turns around and goes out.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - HALLWAY - DAY (FLASHBACK)

Ken and her starts walking down the hallway. She looks like she's about to break down.

KENNETH
We're doing the right thing, Jess. This wasn't the first time, and we need to protect Jason and the baby.

Charles exits the room and watches his parents leaving.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
After that, mom got me out to visit one weekend, but I got too excited.

He looks at her sister's arm, and she does the same.

CHARLES
Then I wasn't able to get out until Freddie's birthday, when mom got me a cute present: a brand-new doll.

SPENCER
Are you talking about Bethany?

INT. TWINS' HOUSE - DAY (ARCHIVE)

It's the story of the two blonde twins Alison told Hanna.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She had a sister too. Until one day things got out of hand.

ALISON (V.O.)
Mom told me that story.

One of the twins gets up and walks towards a drawer. She opens it and looks at a knife.

INT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY (ARCHIVE)

Little Ali finds the two yellow dresses inside the piano and Jessica walks in the living room. Meanwhile, Alison and Ghost Mona watch from a distance.

ALISON (V.O.)
I thought mom was just trying to win her over with that yellow dress, because of the affair.

GHOST MONA
It's not going to be that easy, bitch.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

ALISON
But something told me it wasn't that easy.

CHARLES
Yeah, mom had great plans for her. She wanted to replace you, Ali. And with each new present and visit, Bethany got worse. She also got quite upset when I "died".

SPENCER
When you faked your death.

He looks at Spencer and tilts his head.

CHARLES
Yeah, very shortly after I met you.

SPENCER
(confused)
What are you talking about?

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - BATHTUB ROOM - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

It's Spencer's dream. That creepy girl is dancing around, but now we cannot see her face.

CHARLES (V.O.)
You were here long before last year, but you can't remember.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
I found you in that room, wet and shocked. You had no shoes on, so I gave you mine. And you kept rambling about how you had hurt some girl. Karen, or...

SPENCER
Kendra. Kendra Santoni.

There are tears on her face. She has finally remembered.

CHARLES
Your father paid some money to her parents. They moved out of Rosewood, and you were sent here.

The other girls look at her with a sad expression.

CHARLES
Mom came not long after that, paranoid because dad had found the receipt of something she'd bought for Bethany. She said we couldn't afford him coming here and discovering everything, so she took me out of the equation.

INT. AUNT CAROL'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY (FLASHBACK)

Charles is sitting on the couch and reading a book. The Wheel of Fortune is on the TV.

The front door opens and Jessica comes inside. She's wearing a funeral dress.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She made up a story about me committing suicide because they were going to transfer me.

ALISON (V.O.)
I saw her.

INT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

Jessica and Ken are standing there. She's still wearing that dress, with the veil on. She removes it and starts sobbing.

There's a moment of silence before Ken takes a deep breath. He walks away and leaves Jessica behind. And then...

ALISON
Mommy?

The woman turns around and sees little Alison looking at her. She looks sleepy and scared.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

ALISON
And you stayed at Aunt Carol's?

CHARLES
She was the only one who ever visited me besides mom, you know? She'd bring me sweets, and even before I was admitted, I used to spend a lot of time with her.
(a beat...)
She also taught me to love animals. And that stuck with me.

EXT. AUNT CAROL'S HOUSE - DAY (ARCHIVE)

Jason is trying to get inside the house, but Jessica isn't having it.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She didn't die a couple of years ago, by the way. She was showing signs of dementia, and mom kept her in that house.

EXT. AUNT CAROL'S HOUSE - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Ken is digging up Charles' grave.

CHARLES (V.O.)
And when she finally died recently, mom used her to fill an empty spot.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - CHILDREN'S WARD - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

Jessica and Charles arrive to the room with the toy horse. The room Spencer found Mona's fake I.D. in.

CHARLES (V.O.)
But no, I didn't get to stay in that house for long. Mom was a member of the board at Radley, and she decided to make renovations.

She goes to a door in front and unlocks it with a key.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - SECRET ROOM - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

They come inside a room very similar to the one where the girls played the board game in the Dollhouse.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Mom brought someone to take care of me: a young nurse, more than happy to take the extra money.

SPENCER (V.O.)
Eddie Lamb, right?

EXT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - ROOF - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

Eddie gives Charles a cigarette. The boy lights it and starts smoking it. They are near the edge.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Yeah, we bonded quite a bit.

EDDIE
I feel guilty for getting you into this crap.

CHARLES
It's okay. It helps me distract.

EDDIE
Yeah.
(a beat)
How is that medical thing going, by the way? You've been obsessing over those books.

CHARLES
I just find it interesting.

The door to the roof opens. Eddie and Charles move behind a wall to hide. There's a blonde girl there: BETHANY YOUNG.

The door opens once again, and MARION CAVANAUGH comes out. She approaches Bethany, who's standing by the edge, and tries to calm her down.

After a few seconds of arguing, Bethany pushes her off the roof. A chilling scream can be heard while she falls to her dead. We see Charles' and Eddie's faces one last time before returning to the present.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
Marion wanted to comfort Bethany, but she couldn't have another woman trying to get to her. Dr. Palmer tried to warn her, though.

SPENCER
And Jessica covered it all up.

CHARLES
Yes. Eddie made up a story, and she paid off Wilden.

He looks at her sister.

CHARLES
I told you she was trying to transform that girl into you. Her dad had stopped visiting before the Marion incident, so she was all alone with mom. But when she found out about the affair, all hell broke loose.

EMILY
She escaped. With you.

CHARLES
Not with me, Em. I kind of followed her. And it wasn't the first time I got out of here, you know?

He looks at them with a smile on his face.

CHARLES
Halloween 2008. A zombie costume, a knife... Ring a bell, Ali?

ALISON
(shocked)
That... That was you?

EXT. HAUNTED HOUSE - DAY (ARCHIVE)

The girls are walking down the street and stop in front of the creepy house where Alison got attacked by "A".

CHARLES (V.O.)
I stole some money and a car key from Eddie, and got dressed with and old suit that belonged to our dad, that mom had given me for my birthday. I already knew Radley like the palm of my hand, and got out through that broken window.
(a beat)
I stayed in that creepy house. The owner had killed her wife and their daughter was sent to Radley, so it was some sort of urban legend around here.

INT. COSTUME SHOP - DAY (ARCHIVE)

Alison is reading the text she's just received: "I'm watching you".

CHARLES (V.O.)
I found out about the prank you wanted to do with Noel, and I bought myself a costume.

She turns around and comes face to face with the person in the zombie costume.

ALISON
Freak!

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
You'd given me such a hard time in Radley. Every night, when I tried to sleep, I'd hear your crying. Just like when things got out of hand in the tub. Unbearable.

ALISON
"Now it's my turn to torture you."

CHARLES
Yeah, that was me. I took a stroll down Philly, feeling inspired. So, when I found that creepy doll hospital, I couldn't help myself. Gotta love Brookhaven.
(he grins)
You figured out soon enough where that voodoo doll had come from, and started spending your Vivian Darkbloom days around that place. And Mona followed you all the way.

EXT. NOEL'S CABIN - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

It's Noel's Halloween party. In the crowd, we see Charles in the zombie costume talking to Mona, who's dressed as Catwoman.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I met her in that party, and she told me everything. About you, about your friends... And I did what was best for her.

ALISON (V.O.)
You manipulated her so she'd become "A".

CHARLES (V.O.)
The foundation was already there; I just planted some ideas. Like sending some harmless texts being better than stabbing you in the face. I left quite an impression on her, since she later went and got herself a zombie costume like mine.

INT. HAUNTED HOUSE - LOCKED ROOM - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

The girls see Ali fighting with Charles through the keyhole.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Then it was time for a good scare. You put up quite a fight. And when you returned to the party...

EXT. NOEL'S CABIN - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Ali's phone beeps and she reads the text: "Dying to know who I am? You'll find out. -A".

CHARLES (V.O.)
I made sure you wouldn't forget about me.

ARIA
Who is it?

ALISON
It's a secret.

We CUT to the boy hiding behind some bushes. He closes the cellphone and takes the zombie mask off.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
After that, I kept coming out of Radley. Your life was so much fun, I couldn't even keep up with it. Then that infamous night happened.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

Someone is watching Alison and Jessica argue from a window outside.

CHARLES (V.O.)
After that, I kept coming out of Radley. Your life was so much fun, I couldn't even keep up with it. Then that infamous night happened.

The person watching is revealed: it's Charles.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Bethany wanted to hurt mom, so she dressed with the last outfit she had given her, bracelet included, as some sort of cruel irony. She went out to find her, and I followed her. That was the only time Eddie noticed my absence.
(a beat)
But when I saw you, I figured I had some time to spare.

EXT. THE KISSING ROCK - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

Ian has just left Alison after their fight, and we see Charles is hiding behind the bushes. Ali takes off Toby's sweater and leaves it on the ground. She walks away.

Charles comes out of hiding, picks up the sweater and, after looking at it for a while, decides to put it on.

INT. HASTINGS' HOUSE - SPENCER'S ROOM - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

The girls are talking about the photo "A" sent to Spencer, the one with Alison and Spencer's shadow following her.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Then it got messy. While Alison and Spencer were fighting outside the barn, Ian was setting up that camera in the room. He snapped some great shots.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - BACKYARD - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Alison is lying on the ground, with her head against the tree. Jenna and Garrett are there too, and Ali makes a sign to Garrett to keep quiet.

CHARLES (V.O.)
You took care of a few distractions, sis.

SPENCER (V.O.)
You made Jenna believe Garrett had killed you.

CHARLES (V.O.)
And Garrett wanted her girlfriend out of there too.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - BACKYARD - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Alison is now talking to Byron.

CHARLES (V.O.)
After that, you met with Byron, trying to get more money to run away. That's how scared you were.

Aria's dad starts walking away. He sees Melissa come out of the house, talking to someone over the phone.

CHARLES (V.O.)
And Melissa needed comfort from her favorite detective. Someone you've very familiar with, Ali.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

ALISON
(surprised)
Wilden? Melissa was seeing Wilden?

CHARLES
Why did you think she was also in Cape May? You and CeCe didn't have the monopoly on Beach Hottie. Of course...
(he smiles)
CeCe stopped having the hots for him fairly early. Didn't she ask for your help to break up with him? That's how you two met, right?

She looks ashamed.

CHARLES
Yeah, you always liked older guys. Maybe even Aria's dad?

ALISON
(horrified)
Shut up! Aria, I...

Aria looks at her in disgust.

CHARLES
(grinning)
Thank God he had crazy Meredith by his side. Even when she thought he was a child killer, she decided to just help the love of his life.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - BACKYARD - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Jason comes out of the house, completely wasted.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Shortly after that, my trashy brother made his appearance.

The boy sees CeCe and Melissa talking.

EMILY (V.O.)
Why was CeCe wearing your top, Ali?

ALISON (V.O.)
Well, we had grown used to sharing our clothes, and I told her I was going to wear it that night.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
(grinning)
After my brother passed out, Jenna and Garrett came along again.

ARIA
They slip a note into his pocket.

CHARLES
No, that was me. Garrett got cold feet, and I didn't want such a good prank to go to waste.
(a beat)
And then my sister went to check on you again before heading home.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

He picks a rock, while getting closer to Ali.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I suddenly felt like time was running out for me, like it was my only chance to set my doll right.

And just like that, he smashes her on the head.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - BACKYARD - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

Jessica is burying Alison. Charles is sitting a few meters away, with his back on a tree.

JESSICA
What have you done?! What have you done?!

SPENCER (V.O.)
She buried her to protect you...

CHARLES (V.O.)
And herself too.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

The boy is walking away through the bushes.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She told me to go back to Radley.

He hears something behind: it's CARLA GRUNDWALD, going towards the back of the house.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - BACKYARD - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

Charles sees Grundwald pulling Alison out of the grave. She hugs her for a while and then the two of them stand up and walk away.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I bet you don't regret meeting her that summer, right, Ali?

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

Alison has tears on her face. She takes a deep breath and clears her throat before addressing the girls.

ALISON
She saw me in a frat party, and immediately knew I needed help.

INT. FRAT HOUSE - GRUNDWALD'S SECRET ROOM - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Spencer is looking at the scratch marks on the door.

ALISON (V.O.)
Apparently, I blacked out once during one of our "talks", and she said I had a very raw energy.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I guess that's a decent diagnosis.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - BACKYARD - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

Charles is still hiding in the bushes. After a few seconds, Bethany steps into the backyard. She's wearing Ali's clothes and looks lost and confused.

Then, Mona appears with a shovel and quickly smashes her head from behind. Bethany falls to the ground. Mona starts shaking; she drops the shovel and slowly stumbles away.

HANNA (V.O.)
Mona... Mona killed Bethany?

CHARLES (V.O.)
Technically, she only hit her. She thought Bethany was my sister.

LATER. Charles has finished digging a grave in the same spot Jessica had buried Ali. He puts the shovel in the ground and starts dragging Bethany's corpse.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I couldn't let the cops find her and start asking mom questions.

Before he's able to push the body in, he hears something and goes to hide. It's Melissa, talking on the phone.

MELISSA
Haven't you? Okay, well, let me know as soon as you...

She freezes when she sees the body.

MELISSA
I have to go, CeCe.

She hangs up and gets closer to the grave. After a few moments, she pushes Bethany in. When she's done covering the hole, she hears a noise somewhere behind her, so she drops the shovel in fear and flees.

Mona reappears. When she doesn't see the body, she lets out a chilling scream. She then picks up the shovel and leaves.

CHARLES (V.O.)
It really was a night to remember.

We see one last shot of the boy, grinning.

INT. ROSEWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT - INTERROGATION ROOM - NIGHT

RHYS MATTHEWS is sitting in front of Tanner, looking nervous.

TANNER
Okay, let's try this again, Mr. Matthews. What is your relationship with this Carissimi Group?

RHYS
I told you. I-I work there.

TANNER
Listen, I can go out now and ask for a throughout search on you. But there are people's lives at stake. Six of them being teenage girls.

After a few seconds of silence, the boy sighs and nods.

RHYS
Okay.

Tanner grabs a pen, ready to write.

RHYS
First of all, I have no clue where those girls are.
(a beat)
But I'm also not Rhys Matthews.

TANNER
(furrowing an eyebrow)
Who are you, then?

He takes a deep, deep breath.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
The morning after, mom came to Radley with my freedom. As it turns out, all that time she'd been raising money through charity. And she wanted me as far away as possible.

SPENCER
And you went to London.

CHARLES
I started planning my return, but I needed a new identity. The one mom had given me was such a bore. And I found the perfect doctor, in a quiet pub. I think you know him as Rhys Matthews?

Spencer and Hanna share a look.

CHARLES
His mother had recently passed away and she was the only family he had left. His dad had been rotting in a mental hospital for a while. Now he just wanted to stop being himself, and I had just the solution. He helped me learn about his job and, before I knew it, I was back home.

SPENCER
And you went after Melissa.

CHARLES
I had to lure my sister out. Maybe if she knew her precious dolls were in danger, she'd come out of hiding. But I needed help.

EXT. THE WOODS - DAY (FLASHBACK)

Charles is standing next to some trees. After a few seconds, he greets a girl wearing a red coat and an Alison mask. He smiles and she takes it off: it's CeCe Drake.

CHARLES
So, how did it go?

CECE
Mona is in.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

Alison looks absolutely shocked.

CHARLES
You really thought she forgave you after that frat party? You hurt that girl and framed her for it.

ALISON
I never meant to...

CHARLES
Why do you think she pulled out that stunt at Radley?

SPENCER
That's when you met her, right?

CHARLES
Yeah, and Bethany saw her too. I just felt that I could trust her, and she was fascinated to hear my story.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - BACKYARD - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

CeCe and Alison are having a really heated argument.

ALISON (V.O.)
I tried to talk to her, to apologize.

CeCe slaps Ali. After a few seconds of silence, Alison takes off the anklet her friend gave to her, which she's now wearing on her wrist, and throws it at CeCe. She walks away.

ALISON (V.O.)
When I got to your house, Spence, you were high or something, because...

SPENCER (V.O.)
I asked you to dance with me. That was when you told me. "Girls fight dirtier than boys."

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

ALISON
But she forgave me!

CHARLES
Yeah, sure. She broke up with Jason right after you went missing, and told me she'd always wait for me.

A beat.

ARIA
So, you sent CeCe to talk to Mona?

CHARLES
She told her you would join forces again, and take Hanna away.

HANNA
You never stole the game from her.

CHARLES
Well, Mona thought she was the mastermind and Red Coat was just a helper. She had her theories about her identity, but she didn't really care.
(a beat)
Then the game began. Aria's return set everything in motion: the secrets, the lies, and "A".

INT. HASTINGS' HOUSE - SPENCER'S ROOM - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

CHARLES (V.O.)
Mona and CeCe took care of the first messages.

Spencer goes to her window and sees the blonde girl in Ali's room.

SPENCER (V.O.)
That was CeCe...

EXT. ROSEWOOD CHURCH - DAY (ARCHIVE)

The four girls receive the text from "A": "I'm still here, bitches, and I know everything".

CHARLES (V.O.)
And I sent that text at the funeral.

EXT. HASTINGS' HOUSE - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Mona is in the bushes, recording Spencer and Charles inside the living room.

CHARLES
Those first months Mona did her thing, and CeCe would lean a hand. I helped from time to time, too, ensuring Mona didn't suspect me.

INT. TRINKET SHOP - DAY (ARCHIVE)

The lady from the shop offers a cup of tea to "A". The camera turns to the unknown figure: it's Charles, with his contact lenses off.

EXT. ROSEWOOD HIGH - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Hanna exists the school right after the dance marathon and finds Mrs. Potter's money inside her jacket's pocket.

CHARLES (V.O.)
And she was vicious, Mona. Especially to you, Han. She wrote an anonymous note to that lady, asking to keep her money in check. She died soon after that, and Mona felt terrible. At least I kind of make it up for you with that shiny scholarship, right?

INT. MORGUE ROOM (ARCHIVE)

The medical examiner leaves the room and the camera focus on a body on a table.

CHARLES (V.O.)
That girl had great ideas, truly.

The body raises and takes the sheet away: it's LUCAS GOTTESMAN.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She also knew just who to use.

INT. REMOTE DINER (ARCHIVE)

ANNE SULLIVAN meets someone in the restaurant. They hand her an envelope.

CHARLES (V.O.)
And when to use them.

The camera reveals them to be Toby.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Toby did that after some threats concerning you, Spence. Sadly, he started snooping and didn't stop until he found Sullivan.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

HANNA
I don't get it. You wanted Alison, so why bother bringing "A" back?

CHARLES
I really enjoyed having four new dolls to play with. In fact, the first time we actually put you in danger was completely by chance. Mona panicked because she thought you had found out her identity.
(a beat)
And my sister figured out he needed someone to keep tabs on you.

SPENCER
Noel Kahn.

ARIA
(she looks at Alison)
What did you have on him, anyway?

Alison sighs.

ALISON
Well, turns out he and his brother were N.A.T. regular customers.

EMILY
What?!

ALISON
Yeah. I guess they met Ian and Garret during one of those parties, and they had lots of money. They could afford some tapes.
(a beat)
Noel wasn't the best help, but he watched over you and got close to Mona. He also took me to the church in time to save Spencer.

She turns to Hanna.

ALISON
I meant what I said in the hospital, Han. I was so afraid you were gonna die.

HANNA
What did you mean when you said the four of us knew more about that night?

ALISON
(a bit uncomfortable)
That night before you went to sleep, I told you a few things about what was happening to me. And then, Aria got close to Ezra, and Emily to Toby. And you'd seen that tape of me and Ian at the Kissing Rock, so I thought perhaps you could work something out.

CHARLES
My sister really enjoys being the mysterious girl. She'd come and go with all those fabulous clues, when actually she didn't know anything.

ALISON
I knew Mona was "A"! I was just afraid she'd try to hurt me or you to keep the secret.
(she looks at Charles)
And I also knew something was up with you. I'd seen you acting like the perfect friend to them, but there was just something wrong about you.

CHARLES
It's a shame you could do absolutely nothing with that intuition.
(a beat)
Let's move on, shall we? We still need to get Mona out of the way.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - DAY (ARCHIVE)

Red Coat goes to visit Mona in her room.

CHARLES (V.O.)
When the time came, CeCe asked her to reveal herself and get Spencer out of the way. We took everything from her lair, except a few things that owner kept to himself.

MONA
I did everything you asked me to do.

Now we see it was CeCe.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She was so drugged up that she didn't even see her face. That was when CeCe really stepped in, and I decided to bring "A" back in a big way.

EXT. ROSEWOOD CEMETERY - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

The four girls are standing beside Bethany's dug up grave.

CHARLES (V.O.)
After Emily's trip through Rosewood, we got all of you together in the cemetery, and Lucas snapped some shots.
(he chuckles)
Poor boy. I believe Jenna and Noel actually ran into him at some point that night, and they became really intrigued about his camera.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
The next couple of months were more of the same. It wasn't until recently that I finally carried out what I'd been planning for so long.

SPENCER
The Dollhouse.

CHARLES
(he nods)
It took time, and even Toby worked on it while he was with us. And Mona was my test subject, since she was planning on double-crossing "A", and she knew something was wrong with me. I had authorized CeCe to visit her, after all.
(a beat)
After Mona's death, I made sure you still found what you were supposed to, and to lead that lawyer to the money.

SPENCER
All wrapped up in a nice bow.

CHARLES
It seems like that, but the truth is we had our fair share or problems with the game. People are unpredictable, after all. Like Maya.

The mere mention of that name makes Emily raise her face.

CHARLES
Turns out she just had a lame stalker.

INT. LIGHTHOUSE CABIN - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

LYNDON JAMES opens the closet. Paige is inside, tied up.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Once I went to his apartment and made sure Maya hadn't found anything about me, it was time for him to go. Especially when he kidnapped our latest red-herring.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
We helped you a bit, though. It's a shame you didn't get the password.
(a beat)
"Miss Aria, you're a killer. Not Ezra's wife." And speaking of Ezra...

He grins, and Aria looks up immediately.

INT. ART GALLERY - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Aria is looking at the painting "Isle of the Dead" when Ezra's mom starts coming towards her.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Not only was he a terrible writer, but a criminal too. He stole that painting and sold it.

INT. CYRUS' BASEMENT - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

We see the same painting in CYRUS PETRILLO's den.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Then he got a cheap replica. You believed all that money came from his grandfather's car?

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

Aria can't believe what she's hearing.

CHARLES
He built a nice little liar in Ravenswood where, curiously enough, everyone was obsessed with death, curses and that painting.

HANNA
There was a curse.

All eyes are on her now.

HANNA
Five people died every few years because of a pact about soldiers not being hurt in war. Caleb's ancestor died as a result, and Caleb was next.

CHARLES
No wonder the people there were so odd. No one seemed to bat an eye when I took Emily away.

A beat. Her four friends look at Hanna in disbelief.

CHARLES
Anyway, we were talking about Ezra and his antics.

INT. ZOO - REPTILE HOUSE - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

The girls see who they think is Spencer wearing a blonde wig, a few feet away from them.

CHARLES (V.O.)
He was committed. I'll give him that. He even used Mona a couple of times to do his dirty work.

INT. JAKE'S GYM - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

JAKE is punching his boxing sack when he stabs himself with some blades someone has stuck there.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I wanted someone to expose him so bad. Maybe I took it too far.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

There are tears on Aria's face. She still cannot believe it.

CHARLES
You weren't the luckiest around boys, Aria. Look at my brother, for instance. I can't believe you fell for his story about those pictures.

ARIA
(wiping away some tears)
He told me he had found them in one of your hidden boxes, Alison.

ALISON
I found the tape in his room, but I never got the chance to develop it.

CHARLES
What a creep. I remember the first time he came back to town, all suspicious of you. So formal. Then he quit drinking and wanted to find out about that note. He took the job very seriously.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - DAY (ARCHIVE)

Spencer sees someone on the upstairs window.

CHARLES (V.O.)
And he did find someone.

LATER. Toby and Spencer are talking outside when Jason comes out with a trash bag. He drops it and we see some bloody bandages.

CHARLES (V.O.)
He wasn't happy with Peter sneaking around. And then he figured everything out.

INT. HASTINGS' HOUSE - PETER'S OFFICE - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Spencer sees the 15.000 dollars payment on her dad's notebook.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I planted the money in the box Jason found in our grandma's house, hoping he'd come back and start another fight.

EXT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Hanna takes Jenna out of Jason's house before it explodes.

CHARLES (V.O.)
And Mona tried framing him when she got back at Jenna for dating Noel.

INT. HALLOWEEN TRAIN - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Lucas and Jason share a look.

CHARLES (V.O.)
We did make up for that when we gave him Beth's body, after we made no one would identify it. And Lucas was the delivery boy.

Mona is in the porch with Jason, tending his wound.

CHARLES (V.O.)
My brother confronted him after the train, asking for answers, and Lucas had to defend himself.

INT. ELEVATOR - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Jason stays trapped inside after Emily has already come out.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Soon after, CeCe panicked when you found that picture of Cape May.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
(grinning)
Then we left him alone.

ALISON
What about mom?

Charles turns to her. She looks mad.

ALISON
You didn't leave her alone.

CHARLES
Oh, that was more complicated.

INT. HASTINGS' HOUSE - SPENCER'S ROOM - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Spencer sees the light from Alison bedroom being turned on and she gets closer to the window.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She got a bit upset after Spencer confronted her.

Suddenly, from behind her emerges Jessica.

INT. DILAURENTIS' HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

Charles has just entered the room.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I was doing some snooping too. She came back sooner than I expected.

JESSICA
Charlie?

The boy turns around and comes face to face with her mother.

ACT FOUR

INT. ROSEWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT - NIGHT

Tanner is outside the interrogation room, talking to Ezra, Caleb and Toby. This last one looks shocked to his core.

TOBY
Wren Kingston?! As in Melissa Hasting's fiancé?

TANNER
Apparently, after this identity swap took place, his employer offered him a position in the Carissimi Group. Then, a few days back, he was asked to deliver those paintings to that gallery.

EZRA
(furious)
That was him?

TANNER
He got suspicious and asked for a meeting at an abandoned factory, but the other guy never showed up. Then he found some paperwork connecting the late Jessica DiLaurentis to this company.

CALEB
Great, so we're back to square one.

TANNER
Not necessarily. According to him, this mysterious employer asked for the installation of a security room in the building a few weeks back. No one knows what's in there.

EZRA
Okay, what are we waiting for then?

TANNER
I'll send a team. You go with them, Cavanaugh.

Toby nods and shares a look with Ezra and Caleb.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

Charles is still telling his story.

CHARLES
Since Radley never made Beth's death public until my sister came back, I told mum I was here to visit her. She asked me to give her some new clothes, which CeCe got. Then I found her body.

ALISON
(after a beat)
So, you didn't...?

CHARLES
No. I think that she actually killed herself, you know? She had seen CeCe wearing Bethany's clothes in the police station, and there was also that unsent mail. Maybe she was onto me, and now that Alison was coming back to town... She probably just couldn't take it.
(a beat)
I made sure to do what she'd like best, though: framing the Hastings. Just like she tried framing you back then, Spence.

SPENCER
When she saw me fighting with Ali?

CHARLES
She made a deal with Peter: she'd keep quiet about that if he changed our grandma's will. But she made an official statement when Beth's body was found. Wilden knew something was up, and didn't make it public.

SPENCER
But what did I ever do to Jessica? Why would she...?

CHARLES
She was on the board of Radley when you were admitted as a kid. And there was also the affair with your dad. In her twisted mind, you had every reason to hate her.
(a beat)
Veronica never wanted to involve you in my family drama, especially after the Kendra thing, but she failed miserably. Oh well, at least the problem went away by itself.

He shrugs.

CHARLES
Sometimes I really had to step in, though. Like with Noel or that guy, Cyrus. Or even Eddie. He got really annoying after you were admitted again, Spence, and I had to scare him away. There were times when I needed to take more extreme measures, though.

INT. ABANDONED FARM - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

Ian is pacing around in the farm where the girls found him dead. He doesn't realize that someone is getting closer and closer to him: it's Charles.

CHARLES (V.O.)
On his mission to protect her wife's buring tendencies, Ian tried to kill my doll. He was going to flee town with your blackmail money but realized he couldn't leave Melissa, and went to that farm. And I did what I had to.

Charles pulls out a gun.

CHARLES
I'm sorry about the phone in your bag, Spence. That was CeCe's idea. Just like that ring thing.

We hear the weapon going off.

INT. ROSEWOOD HIGH - DAY (ARCHIVE)

Spencer and Emily are sitting on a table when they see Ian approaching Jenna. He has a bag.

CHARLES (V.O.)
But the N.A.T. club was still going on strong, with Garrett and Jenna.

He hands her the bag.

CHARLES (V.O.)
You took your time to figure it out. Even when Ian was giving her presents in behalf of his best buddy. A new flute. Simple, right?

INT. ROSEWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Garrett hands Jenna the page from the autopsy report.

CHARLES (V.O.)
It got sad when he tried to convince Jenna your arrest was all part of their plan.

INT. ROSEWOOD HIGH - CLASSROOM - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Jenna and Noel are reading everything the students have written on the blackboard.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Then she traded him for Noel, and shared everything with that boy.

The camera pans across the blackboard and we see the message "I KNOW WHO KILLED ALISON DILAURENTIS".

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
And poor Garrett got close to Melissa. She made the mistake of telling him too much, though. He had seen her that night, and assumed maybe she was the killer. Or even Byron.

SPENCER
And you planted that note on Garrett's mom, right? You wanted him out of jail.

CHARLES
That anklet had Ali's blood on it, so it was easy to tamper with. I didn't know if Garrett knew more than it looked, and it's better to be safe than sorry.

INT. HALLOWEEN TRAIN - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Aria and Garrett's corpse are inside the crate.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Toby sneaked everything we needed onto the train. Sorry about that, Aria. I wanted to have some fun.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
And then there was Wilden. After Mona was admitted in Radley, I had enough of his smug attitude, and I could use someone from the police.

The girls are shocked at the sudden shift to the detective. He looks at them, almost like he's expecting something.

CHARLES
Come on, it's not that hard.

They turn to Spencer, but Emily is first one to talk.

EMILY
Did Wilden see you that night, Ali? Garrett told Jenna that he did.

ALISON
No, we had planned on meeting earlier for the celebrations, but he canceled.

SPENCER
Maybe Garrett saw him when he came to talk to Melissa.

ALISON
But why would Garrett think he met me?

SPENCER
Maybe because Garrett asked him to. Because...
(a beat)
Wilden was also in the N.A.T. club.

CHARLES
Very well, Spence. Yes, he was in charge of some interesting films. Such as several encounters of mommy dearest with Bethany's dad.

INT. FIELDS' HOUSE - EMILY'S ROOM - DAY (ARCHIVE)

"A" is in Emily's room, wiping the memory from her laptop.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I got a copy of the N.A.T. videos, like I did with those from Ian's camera when I was with Melissa. And one featured our dear detective.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
Wilden wasn't happy about it. He actually thought you were the ones behind the blackmail at first. Then, after drugging Aria in the train, he panicked when he figured out the full extent of his mission with Melissa.
(a beat)
Don't worry, we'll get to her in no time.

SPENCER
He almost pushed me off the train.

CHARLES
He was afraid about what Garrett could've told you. But anyway, CeCe took care of him when he had already run his use and, just like that, the N.A.T. club was gone.
(a beat)
But there was another little group that ruined the fun, and involved your childhood friend, Ali.

EXT. THE WOODS - DAY (ARCHIVE)

Jenna meets someone and hands them a scarf.

CHARLES (V.O.)
All Shana wanted was revenge for Jenna, the girl she had once met in Cape May before going to Rosewood. And after her surgery, Jenna invited her to the Masquerade Ball.

EXT. JENNA'S HOUSE - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Emily goes to the window and sees Jenna, Melissa and SHANA FRING talking inside the house.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Melissa joined later on, determined to find out if my sister was alive. We weren't only blackmailing her about her miscarriage, after all.

INT. HALLOWEEN TRAIN - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Hanna takes off the Phantom of the Opera mask from the person behind her, to reveal yet another mask, of Alison.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She saw me in the train wearing Alison's mask. CeCe gave it to Mona, and asked her to say it had been her. Even when she got kicked off the team, she kept the story going, playing both sides.

SPENCER (V.O.)
That's why she visited that mask guy.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Yeah, what a waste of her face.

EXT. TOBY'S HOUSE - DAY (ARCHIVE)

A black hoodie is watching Jenna from a window outside. She's talking to someone on the phone.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Anyway, Shana had promised Jenna that she'd do her best to try and protect her from everything regarding my sister and the N.A.T. videos you allegedly still had. But Jenna got more worried by the moment, especially after Shana confessed to her that Alison was in fact still alive.

Suddenly, the call gets interrupted when she gets a text. She looks at it and gets obviously upset.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Jenna was also in contact with Melissa, the other person involved in those tapes. She told her about that invitation she found, for the party at the Thornhill. That only made her more paranoid.

Jenna goes to the window to check if there's someone outside.

EXT. THORNHILL LODGE - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Toby is following someone through the woods.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Mona thought they were afraid of Melissa, but Shana wasn't. She knew you were meeting Ali there and started the fire after CeCe landed, ruining our attempt to take you to the Dollhouse.

Before he's able to see them, someone smacks him and knocks him unconscious.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She hit Toby and left the lighter next to him. She had been following CeCe's trail; that's how they got close to that pilot. They made it seem like Jenna's old friend Wilden was guilty, just a couple of days after rescuing him from the road.

EXT. LAKE HOUSE - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Emily is walking outside the cabin.

CHARLES (V.O.)
And after that, we had to scare Shana away.

She sees Jenna drowning in the lake, and screams thinking it is actually Spencer.

CHARLES (V.O.)
CeCe had been wanting to hurt Jenna since she saw her the night we dug up Beth's grave.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
But then she went to New York, dressed as the one you feared the most. Thank God Aria intervened, because I was too busy in London welcoming Toby. And CeCe didn't feel like helping.

The girls look at the boy, confused at that statement.

CHARLES
She was actually the biggest setback of them all.

Hanna is attacked by Toby inside the store.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She began to dislike how much time I spent with my dolls.

INT. HASTINGS' HOUSE - BATHROOM - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Spencer is trapped inside the shower, and sees the writing on the mirror: "Steamy with Wren, steamy with me".

CHARLES (V.O.)
Toby hated doing that, but it was all CeCe's idea.

INT. EZRA'S LAIR - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

CeCe is talking to someone over the phone.

CECE
I'm not waiting here forever, and I'm sure as hell not going back to Rosewood.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She also took the working for Ezra thing way too far.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

CHARLES
And then I found out she knew about Shana's plan at the Thornhill all along, and that's why she was so insistent on keeping tabs on her and Jenna. I had to throw her under the bus when you came asking, Hanna, and I led the police to her so she'd realize it was time to flee. But she returned to Rosewood to help me fake Mona's death. And after Christmas I took care of her. It's amazing she fit inside that little barrel.

Hanna looks at her friends, horrified at that reveal.

CHARLES
Yeah, tragic. Thankfully, I like to plan ahead when it comes to help.

INT. MONA'S RV - DAY (ARCHIVE)

The Black Widow places Mona's doll in the dollhouse before taking off her veil and looking in the mirror. After a while, she takes off her mask: it's Melissa Hastings.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I took inspiration from my mother's funeral dress, and Melissa found CeCe's mask at the Thornhill. She was the one that put Ashley's phone inside Wilden's casket.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

Spencer doesn't look too shocked, all things considered. It's more like she's angry and disappointed.

CHARLES
She never trusted me again after Ian, but I didn't reveal myself until Wilden's funeral.
(a beat)
But she wasn't fit for the job. I had to write her a note for Bethany's family. She felt so guilty she even went to those stables, to feel closer to that girl. And she tried to warn Andrew when he was being set up as the next distraction.

He looks almost disappointed, and lets out a small sigh.

CHARLES
She did do some useful things, like infiltrating Mona's army. Then I sent her London.

SPENCER
So, she never left the first time.

CHARLES
Melissa asked Shana to take care of that. That's why Toby "found" that moving receipt.

EXT. ROSEWOOD STREETS - NIGHT (ARCHIVE)

Spencer sees Red Coat in front of her. She runs towards her, but she's already gone when she turns the corner.

EXT. DARK ALLEY - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

The scene picks up and we see Red Coat hiding in an alley.

CHARLES (V.O.)
I did have a real ally, though.

The girl takes off the hoodie: it's SARA HARVEY.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

EMILY
(shocked and betrayed)
No, you're lying!

CHARLES
I found her in Radley. Her mother sent her here and made it look like she had run away. She blamed Sara for her husband leaving. And I was fascinated with her story. At first, CeCe used her for errands. If she got tired of staying in my mom's basement, she'd send Sara instead. Even though she later had to clean all herself, when you moved to my sister's room.

Emily is sobbing inside her cage.

CHARLES
It's amazing how fast Sara managed to infiltrate your life. She was so good she even made that Lesli Stone a plausible suspect of yours.

INT. HAIR SALON - DAY (ARCHIVE)

Mona meets someone outside of the salon while Hanna is having her make-over in.

CHARLES (V.O.)
Mona told the truth: they were just Radley friends, and Lesli visited her often. She was afraid about her problems going public, though.

SPENCER (V.O.)
And you used that against her.

INT. PHOTO ROOM - EVENING (ARCHIVE)

Aria is going through the photos from the junkyard when she comes across the one with the black hoodie on it.

CHARLES (V.O.)
She was a great distraction, until she told Mona I had escaped that night with Bethany. I guess she overheard Eddie talking on the phone with mom. At least I got some use off her cages.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - PATIENT ROOM - NIGHT

The boy takes a deep breath and smiles.

CHARLES
Well, storytime's over. We should get going now.

HANNA
Where?

CHARLES
Wait for it.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - BATHTUB ROOM - NIGHT

The door opens and the six of them go inside. The girls first see a tub in the center of the room, filled with water. And then, in the corner...

ALISON
Jason! Dad!

HANNA
Mona!

They are awake, with their hands tied and some tape covering their mouths. Alison runs to them and takes the tape from his brother and father. Hanna does the same with Mona.

MONA
I was starting to think you'd never come.

She looks at Charles with a sad smile on her face.

MONA
I should've known it was you.

He grins.

JASON
Charlie...

CHARLES
Hi, Jason. Long time, no see. Same to you, dad.

Kenneth can't stop staring at the boy.

CHARLES
As much as I enjoy a good family reunion, we should get started.

The girls look at the tub and then at each other, with horror covering their eyes.

CHARLES
I'm sorry it has to end like this.

KENNETH
Charlie, you don't have to. You can take me; it was all my fault.

There's a moment of silence. The boy looks at his father with an unreadable expression, and then...

CHARLES
God, what a bore.

He raises a gun and pulls the trigger. Ali screams in horror as his father's body falls to the ground. She gets closer to him and starts sobbing uncontrollably. Jason, Mona and the rest of the girls are in absolute shock.

CHARLES
He didn't even belong here.

But there's something wrong. Spencer looks at him: even though he's trying to keep his whole act up, something's bothering him about that killing. Then it clicks.

SPENCER
Didn't he, really?

There are tears on her face, but she still manages to keep up a solemn tone. Charles and the rest of the room turn to her, except for Alison, who's still weeping next to Kenneth.

CHARLES
What are you saying, Spence?

SPENCER
That you haven't been completely honest with us tonight.

CHARLES
Well then, enlighten us, please.

EMILY
Spencer, what are you doing?

SPENCER
I've figured out the true reason why you created "A", right Hanna?

She turns to the girl, who looks at her confused. Then, Spencer makes a quick sign to her friend, pointing at the gun Charles is holding.

SPENCER
We were your escape valves. We allowed you to play your little games while you hid away from the fact that, deep down, you're still a sad little boy.

CHARLES
Shut up.

But something is going on. His voice is trembling and his hands have started to shake.

Hanna has started to walk very slowly towards him, creeping up from behind.

SPENCER
You were alone, and your sister crying didn't let you sleep. Do you hear it know?

He looks like a scared little boy: his whole body is shaking and he has closed his eyes.

SPENCER
And it was easier to just torture her. Then we came around, and it was even better.

Hanna can almost reach his hand and take the gun.

SPENCER
Killing her won't stop the crying.

CHARLES
SHUT UP!

He screams just when Hanna's about to retrieve the gun. The girl hesitates and the boy realizes what's happening. He raises the gun and points it to her.

EMILY
NO!

Emily launches at him and they start struggling. Spencer joins too, and the boy manages to hit her on the face with the gun. And then, just as he's managed to shove her away...

Alison hits him on the head from behind with a dusty pipe. Charles falls to the ground, unconscious, and all the people in the room just stare at him, still shocked.

INT. CARISSIMI GROUP - SECRET ROOM - NIGHT

The door with the control panel Hanna and Spencer saw a few days ago is now open. Caleb, Ezra, Toby, Tanner and some other officers (including BARRY MAPLE) are inside.

It's A's new lair. There are some monitors on a table, and some photos and maps on the walls.

BARRY MAPLE
Ma'am, take a look at this.

The officer hands Tanner a couple of papers, and she goes through them fairly quick. The three boys go to find out what it is about.

TANNER
Papers from Radley. The group bought it after it closed down.

TOBY
Crap, that's where they are. That's where Charles has them!

TANNER
Call in, Cavanaugh. Now!

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - HALLWAY - NIGHT

The five girls, Mona and Jason are walking through a dark hallway. Emily is next to Alison, who looks especially bad.

EMILY
Are you okay, Ali? If you need to stop...

ALISON
No, I'm...

She wipes the tears from her face.

ALISON
Don't worry, we have to keep going.

JASON
There's the door.

He's right. The front exit is right in front of them. Aria is the first one to try it out: it's closed.

MONA
He obviously had to get in somehow. Maybe he used some kind of device.

EMILY
Maybe the same thing he unlocked our cages with.

MONA
He had you locked up in cages?

She almost looks impressed. Spencer turns to her friends.

SPENCER
We need to get back. Whatever it is he used, he has it on him.

HANNA
For real?

SPENCER
He's tied up, and it's seven against one.

JASON
But someone should stay here, and keep trying the door just in case.

SPENCER
Okay. You and Mona stay here with Ali. Let's get moving.

LATER. The four Liars are almost outside the door to the tub room.

ARIA
What if he's awake?

HANNA
I'll smack him again.

EMILY
We can all take turns.

They're there. They look at each other, take a deep breath, and Spencer opens the door.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - BATHTUB ROOM - NIGHT

ARIA
No way...

He's not there.

EMILY
God... God, what do we do know?

SPENCER
We have to go back. Fast.

HANNA
I knew it.

We start hearing police cars sirens coming from the outside.

INT. RADLEY SANITARIUM - HALLWAY - NIGHT

The girls have returned to where they came from. Jason looks at her, worried.

JASON
What's wrong?

Spencer goes to him, but before the rest of the girls can catch up...

ALISON
Guys, watch out!

They turn to the hallway next to them. Charles is running towards them with a knife on his hand, like a wild animal.

ALISON
NO!

She gets between him and the girls, and then a loud "bang" is heard. Spencer is holding the gun that Jason had before, and Charles falls to the ground, with a bullet on his chest.

SPENCER
Game over, Charles.

But Alison is hurt too: she's lying there with a stab wound on her belly.

EMILY
Oh, God, Ali. Hang on, okay?

Jason comes closer to her and grabs her hand.

JASON
Yeah, we'll be out of here in no time.

Mona is searching Charles' corpse. The sirens from the police are even louder than before.

MONA
It's not here!

Just then, there are some knocks on the door.

TOBY (O.S.)
SPENCER! Are you in there?

SPENCER
WE ARE IN HERE! HELP US, PLEASE!

ALISON
It's... It's okay.

EMILY
(crying)
Don't. They're already here.

Ali gives looks at each of them, almost like she's smiling.

ALISON
I'm sorry. Thank you, for everything.

The door bursts open: we see a last shot of Alison lying there, with her friends and Jason surrounding her and the cops starting to flood the place.

ACT FIVE

INT. ROSEWOOD POLICE STATION - INTERROGATION ROOM - NIGHT

We go back to the first scene of the episode. Emily is sitting there, crying, while Tanner listens to her testimony.

EMILY
It was all our fault.

TANNER
That's not true.

HANNA
If we had all stick together, then maybe now...

TANNER
You did what you needed to do.

SPENCER
I wasn't even thinking when I took the gun from Jason. I just did it.

TANNER
And you saved a lot of lives.

ARIA
Do you know how he escaped?

TANNER
We found Sara Harvey hiding in Radley. She didn't put up any fight when we took her, though. We're assuming she cut the ropes.

INT. ROSEWOOD POLICE STATION - NIGHT

Aria comes out of the interrogation room. The rest of her friends are already there, along with the families and the boys. Byron and Ella hug her, and then it's Mike's turn.

JASON
They don't want to interrogate us?

TANNER
Not today.

She's just come out of the room too.

TANNER
You need a good night rest.

EXT. ROSEWOOD'S CHURCH - DAY

A lot of people are in the street. We see Aria walking with Ella and Byron. Mike and Mona follow them from behind.

Spencer is also there, along with Veronica, Peter and Melissa. Toby is waiting for her down the stairs.

Caleb, Hanna and Ashley are together. The latter leaves them to go meet Veronica. Caleb and Hanna embrace in a hug.

Finally, Emily arrives with Pam and Wayne. The four girls meet at the stairs and start hugging each other.

INT. ROSEWOOD CHURCH - DAY

Jason is inside, welcoming the people. Spencer is the first one to enter, followed by Hanna, Aria and Emily. They go to him. After they have all hugged him, he points them to the front seat.

Spencer nods and they start walking together. Meanwhile, the parents and the boyfriends are making their way to their own seats. Finally, the ceremony begins. Pastor Ted is on the altar, officing it.

PASTOR TED
The Lord gives us, and the Lord takes it away.

EXT. ROSEWOOD'S CHURCH - DAY

The ceremony is over, and the girls are now outside. We see Aria is talking to Ezra a few meters away from them.

EZRA
So, how are you feeling?

ARIA
I'm better than yesterday, I guess.

EZRA
Yeah...

There's an awkward silence.

EZRA
I was just a bit worried, you know?

ARIA
Yeah, there are just many things going on. And you're leaving to that volunteering thing, so...

EZRA
I don't have to. I can stay if...

ARIA
No, you go. Have a normal life.

Ezra sighs and steps in to give Aria a hug. They stay like that for a while, until they finally break away.

EZRA
Goodbye, Aria.

ARIA
Goodbye, Ezra.

He walks away. Aria takes a deep breath and tries to wipe her tears before returning to her friends and family. The camera slowly pans away from the church.

INT. SPENCER'S BARN - NIGHT (FIVE YEARS LATER)

The four girls are sitting on a table in the living room. Caleb and Toby are there too, and all laugh about something.

CALEB
She was only touching it, Han. You jumped at her like a crazy pitbull.

HANNA
I'm just not taking any chances in my boutique. I don't want anyone repeating my old mistakes.

EMILY
That's understandable, I guess.

ARIA
What about you, Em? You still haven't told us how things are going in California.

EMILY
Well, pretty much the same. It seems like the only thing I do these days is swimming.

ARIA
That's more exhilarating than grading a never-ending pile of exams. Due next week, by the way.

SPENCER
Yeah, well, my job is also not the most exciting thing in the world.

HANNA
You kidding? What about helping addicts recover is not exciting?

SPENCER
It sounds better than what it is.
(a beat)
And really, I'd actually have never imagined this is what I'd be doing now.

TOBY
I don't know... I always pictured you as the Psychologist type.

ARIA
You're good at reading people.

HANNA
When you're not scaring them.

SPENCER
I'm not scary!

EMILY
Just scary enough.

They all laugh once again.

LATER. The girls are sitting on two couches.

HANNA
Thank God the boys volunteered to wash the dishes. I'm exhausted.

EMILY
By the way, Spence, have you heard anything from Jason?

SPENCER
Yeah, he wanted to come, but something came up at the Carissimi Group.

ARIA
It's great what he's done with it.

HANNA
Mona told me the exact same thing.

SPENCER
How is she?

HANNA
Well, she seemed to be doing just fine when she came to New York to visit.

ARIA
Same as my brother.

EMILY
What an interesting couple.

ARIA
Yeah, I don't think it'll ever stop being weird. And speaking of weird...
(a beat)
I ran into Ezra in Philly.

SPENCER
Oh, right. He's still living there.

ARIA
Yes, with that girl, Nicole. He told me I looked happy.

SPENCER
You do.

HANNA
You all do.

EMILY
"We" all do.

For a moment, none of them say anything. They just smile, staring at each other.

SPENCER
You know what? I had a dream about Ali last night.

ARIA
Really? What was it about?

SPENCER
Nothing, actually. We were there with her, in the woods or the lake. I can't remember. We just talked.

EMILY
Sounds like a nice dream.

Suddenly, there's a noise coming from the other side of the barn. It sounds like glass shattering.

CALEB (O.S.)
Crap!

HANNA
What the hell are you doing in there?!

TOBY (O.S.)
Nothing! We just dropped a glass!

SPENCER
God, you just can't leave them alone, can you?

EMILY
You definitely can't.

ARIA
What would they do without us?

They get up while the camera focuses on the wall in front: there's a picture there with Alison and the girls.

EXT. SPENCER'S BARN - NIGHT

We see one last shot of the barn's door, while the camera moves away.

INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT

A man and a woman enter the room. It's a simple one, similar to the ones in the Lost Woods Resort. We see the man's face, but not the woman.

MAN
Enjoy your stay, Mrs. Lodge.

The camera finally reveals to us the woman's face: she's identical to the late Jessica DiLaurentis.

JESSICA
Please, call me Jessica.

The man nods and starts heading towards the door, but before exiting he turns around to the woman.

MAN
You have family here, Jessica?

JESSICA
I had, yes. Both my parents and my sister passed away some time ago.

MAN
(with a sad look)
Oh, I'm truly sorry for your loss.

JESSICA
You shouldn't be, at least for the last one. Mary was a horrible human being.

The man looks shocked by her last words. She smiles in a creepy, ominous way.

JESSICA
We were twins, you know? I was born first, and she was born jealous. And, one day, she made me disappear. She took everything away from me.
(a beat)
It's a shame she forgot to check my pulse.

That statement sent shivers down the man's spine.

JESSICA
I stayed gone for a long time, while she enjoyed being me. Then, a few years ago, I made sure she got what was coming to her.

A couple of seconds of awkward silence go by, until finally Jessica starts laughing. The man also lets out a nervous laugh: he seems relieved.

JESSICA
God, I was only kidding. You should see your face. No, our sister and I had our ups and downs, but we worked through them. It's a shame I couldn't spend more time with her in the end.

MAN
Yeah, I bet you miss her every day.

JESSICA
I do.

The man smiles and lets out a small sigh.

MAN
Well, I'd better get going.

JESSICA
Yes, of course.

He nods and walks to the door, but before he can get out...

JESSICA
By the way, do you know what's the best thing about a really good lie?

He turns around for the second time.

JESSICA
That it will forever leave you wondering.

She raises her hand and shushes at the man, with a grin still on her face.
