The Gift of Sight

Roy Mustang was walking through the 5th floor of the hospital with his hands in his pockets and a smile on his face. His newlywed wife, Riza Hawkeye had just given birth to his child, and he had been waiting in the waiting room for hours and wanted nothing more than to see his wife and child. When he saw Room 508, Roy opened the door and saw Riza laying down on her hospital bed. Her eyes were downcast and she had bags under her eyes, but she was still very much awake judging by the little bit of white in her eyes that was visible.

"You came," Riza mumbled before she let out a large yawn. Roy chuckled before grabbing a chair and sitting down next to her.

"Of course, you just gave birth to my child, why wouldn't I come and see how you're doing?" Roy quipped, putting a hand on her forehead before he noticed a small clear box with a swaddling blanket inside. "Is that our baby?" Roy asked. Riza turned her head to the box and nodded with a smile on her face.

"Yes, it is. Roy, say hello to our daughter," Riza said, as she took the child out of the box, and gave her to Roy. When Roy looked down at the child, he noticed that she had a little tuft of black hair like him, but had Riza's brown eyes. The baby had looked up at him with a look of fascination. Roy, while he was smiling, started to cry with tears already starting to pour out of his eyes and run down his cheeks.

"Roy, are you alright? Are you hurt?" Riza asked, still lying down on the bed with her voice barely rising above a whisper. Roy shook his head before running a hand through the little bit of hair their daughter had.

"No…it's just…two years ago, I…wouldn't have been able to…s-see our daughter at all. If…Marco had never…kept that Philosopher's Stone, I…I—I wouldn't have been…able to see my…our…beautiful daughter," Roy confessed in between sobs. Riza smiled while their daughter, who had no idea what was going on, started tearing up as well before burying her face in Roy's chest. This caused Roy to stop crying and crack a smile and chuckle at his daughter's actions.

"Well, it looks like she got your protectiveness," Roy joked, giving his daughter a hug before Riza started to giggle.

"I would have been worried if she didn't have my protectiveness. Plus, knowing how you can be sometimes, you could use all the protection you can get," Riza joked, causing the both of them to laugh, which in turn caused the baby to start laughing as well. Roy got up from the chair, still holding the baby, and gave Riza a kiss on the cheek and forehead.

"I can admit that I could use a lot of support, especially when it comes from a beautiful woman like you and an adorable child like this little girl," Roy said with a smile, as Riza smiled back at him and gave him a kiss. The baby put her arms out in front of Riza, causing Riza to pick the baby up and kiss her on the forehead before she laid back down and went to sleep. Roy continued to hug the child as he looked up and smiled, excited about the future that he and Riza were going to have with their new daughter in tow.
