Chapter 1 the runty Bat and Raccoon visited camping

A father drove his dodge truck on the road with a boat trailer behind as he head for up Northern Canada for a camping trip this weekend. He glances back with his review mirror while he changed the radio station to see his young eighteen-year-old daughter with long thick wavy brown hair with fair skin wore a light blue t-shirt with grey sweat pants sleeping with a book called Eragon on her lap. He chuckled softly smile warmly and stops for the red light which made her woke up and blinked her light greyish-blue eyes.

"Dad, are we almost there?" She yawned.

"Yes, Ashlie love we almost just a couple more minutes." He replied looking at her in reviver mirrors and turns his truck over to another side the road.

"Okay, dad." She sighed and looked outside to see pine trees passing by. Her dad chuckled and spoke. "Have been taking a nap sweetie?" She nodded and rubbed her eyes.

"Yeah I did and it was a nice one." She answered still staring outside and looked at the sky softly. She hopes this vacation could possibly have some adventure she always dreams of and she always has these thoughts every time when she and her family or one of her family members goes on vacation. But sadly their not any kind of adventures she reads books about that are dangerous and thrilling to her.

"Are you alright back there honey?" She heard her dad asked concerned. She nodded fast and looks at him.

"Yeah I'm okay I'm just having, some thoughts that's all and I just woke up." She spoke quickly. Her dad hums and shrugs.

"Well whatever you say." He forms a smile and looks ahead. "This weekend it's going to be fun, just you and me father and daughter time." The girl chuckled.

"Yeah dad I'm excited too and thanks for doing this for my birthday besides its been last month,"

"Honey it's my gift to you and I thought this could be a good chance to spend some time together just you and me with nature." Her dad said.

"It's one of the best gifts as well." She added. Then she saw the lake as the truck went across the bridge and her eyes lit up." Dad is that where we're the camp is?"

Her dad nodded and spoke. "Yes, angel it's where we're going to camp." He stops and turns towards dirty road into the woods and drove on and Ashley looked out the window excitedly and watch the sky clouds passing by. Soon after they arrive at the campground with one empty spot reserved for them. Her dad parked the side for the boat.

"We're here." He announced as he died the engine. Ashlie can't help but got out of the truck and ran towards the campground and saw the lakefront of her. She stops and glances her surroundings to see a fireplace in the middle of the campground with grass and dirt and in corner of her eyes she sees the green forest. She sighed and breathes in the air and smiled and let herself embrace with nature, to her everything was just right.

"Dad this is perfect." She beamed. Her dad smiled after he got out of his truck and walk right by her.

"I knew you'll love this place with a lake and a forest." He replied and looked out the opening. "This place is indeed beautiful." She looked back at the truck.

"Come on Dad lets unpack so we can do some activity here." She ran back and her dad laughed and follows her.

"Wait for your old man!" He called. Ashlie giggled and for the rest of the day, they settle up their both tents on each side and put the boat in the lake. Soon after they went on with their activity going fishing catching some bass, hiking, swimming in the lake and went on bike riding until the sun goes down. Later that evening her dad taught her how to start the fire and they both had fish for supper and smores for dessert. Her dad notices her still reading Eragon book she got for her birthday money before they came here.

"How's the book, honey?" He swallows his s'mores.

"It's pretty good." She answered while she flipped the page. "I'm getting at the part where Eragon is being taught by Brom with sword fighting and dragon rider magic." Her dad hums and finished his s'mores.

"You seem to like fantasy don't you?" He asked. Ashlie nodded and mark on the page she's on.

"Well why not? I enjoy reading books that have adventure, fantasy, and romance. They have some excitement in them." She explained. He chuckled.

"No there's nothing wrong with you liking something, it's how it makes you unique and that what's special about you. " Ashlie force to laugh softly along but deep inside she always thought she was, odd towards everyone she meets. She glances up at the nightly sky to see billions of stars that are cover by Milky Way like a blanket twinkling across the sky.

"Wow, I wish I could see this night from home." She sighed to herself letting some warm air out from her mouth. Then she gasps when she saw familiar flying mammal and beamed to watch two of them soaring above.

"Hey, dad looks!" Her dad looked at her puzzled and looked around and spoke. "What is it, honey?" She points towards the sky towards the bat flying towards the nightly forest.

"They're over there heading for the forest see?" She replied still points there. He manages to look at where she's facing and smiles.

"Well, will you look at that?" He watches with her at the two bats swopping around in midair and a second later they flew towards the forest let the darkness engulfed them. "Too bad their blind."

"They're not blind dad." Ashlie corrected. "They can see well."

"Oh?" He question. "Then how come they fly around at night with bad eyesight?"

"They used echolocation to guide them where they can go and it helps them track down some insects to feed on." She answered.

"How do you know all this stuff sweetie?" He drinks his water bottle after he asked. She shrugged and brought her two legs up and did cross leg to keep her feet warm.

"On the internet I guess and books from the Library. Their pretty interesting and amazing creatures." She replied. Her dad chuckled.

"You with your bats." Ashlie snorts but then heavy sighed.

"Dad, do you find me weird to love bats?" She asked gloomily. All her life she always hears other people saying bats are horrifying and disgusting creatures that many of them are afraid of their rabies and few on the vampire myth. Her dad shook his head and got up from the log and walk over to her.

"No Angel, it doesn't make you weird. Like I told you it makes you unique and this bat stuff is very exclusive." He smiles at her and stroke her hair gently." And that's what makes you special sweetie." Ashlie sighed but forms a smile of her dad's comment and understanding and got up.

"Thanks dad." She replied as he kisses her forehead gently.

"We should get some shut eye for tomorrow if we going to catch some more bass and we cannot miss this early morning." He winked at her. She nodded and stretches her arms out and yawned tiredly.

"Okay, dad like some help with the fire?" She offered. He shook his head.

"No honey I got this down you have done a lot of help today." Ashlie nodded and hugged her dad.

"Okay good night daddy, see you tomorrow." She felt him embrace her softly.

"Good night my angel has sweet dreams." Ashlie smiled and walk towards her tent while her dad begins to put out the fire. She zipped up the door and walks in and zipped back up insecure for no insects to come in while she's sleeping. She sighed and grabs her clothed bag and grab out her cozy purple with white dotted pj's pants and a white tank top along out of her bag. She changed from her t-shirt and her sweatpants into her PJs and crawls in her air mattresses that her dad brought and cover her green blanket. She silently prays to God thank him for his help including keeping her and dad safe and have this day great with beautiful daylight. She lies on the pillow and looks up softly at the sky since her tent has a screen to have her see the sky. With her and dad talk about her unique she still feels odd. She couldn't help herself since she always shy around other people and always has her head in clouds a lot filled with adventure. She saw the shooting star passing by and heavy sighed.

"I wish I could end up great adventure, and feel confident who I am." She wished and turns her body over and sighed sadly before she slowly falls asleep.

Ashlie POV:

I hear something flapping that made my eyes half opened and heard it again. I groaned and got up and rubbed my eyes with my palm.

"Ugh what on earth is making that sound?" I muttered tiredly. I tried to hear it more but I didn't hear it anymore. I hummed and lie back down and cover my blanket towards the screen window and yawned. "It's perhaps a bird lowering down to grab some crumbs." I was right about to close my eyes but then that sound goes again and something passes fast across my eyes before I could blink. I gasp and got up and sure enough, what I just saw was a bat. I got off my cover quickly and grab my blue hooded sweater from my baggie. I put it on and unzipped my tent and peeked out.

I looked ahead to see everything the way it should be after my dad and I head for bed. I even looked up at the sky to check for some birds but all I can view were just nightly sky. I sighed shook my head and was about to go in my tent but then I heard something clanging the other side of my tent. I grab my brown boots to put them on to see what was making that noise. I grab my flashlight in the case and walk out my tent as I shut the zipper behind me. I gulped and walk quietly over towards the sound and use my flashlight towards the box that has all our pans and pots and there were no creatures nearby it. I sighed in relief and decided it was nothing and begin to head back towards my tent but all of sudden I gasp but cover my mouth to quiet myself when I saw a small bat on my dad's boat.

I watch the little blue bat or he could be a runt was sniffing at the wheel have curious look. I smiled happily and almost made soft but not too loud squeal as I thought he looks so adorable. I felt the urge to wake my dad up to see this but I didn't want the bat to fly off. So I grabbed my cell phone from my pocket and set on the camera mood to take a picture of it. But the bat was pretty far and blurry that I have to get a little closer. With much quiet as I can I tiptoe over and prepare my camera to get ready to take a picture. I saw the bat fly over to the seat as I notice up close he has a yellow-haired with same on his mane.

When I was enough to close to it I slowly get my cell phone ready and begin to aim at it. But then suddenly I almost tripped over a small stump that I accidentally let out a yell startled. The bat turns sharply in startled and took off fast from the boat."No no, wait!" I cried. "Come back I didn't mean to scared you!" I watch the little bat fly fast not listening into the woods as I heavy sighed in disappointment. Drat. I thought and glance at the boat near me. I decided to check on it to see if everything is all clear but I went over and put my cell phone down in case if it falls out of my pocket into the lake.

I got on the boat and shine over some items, seats, wheel and anything else to make sure if anything is still the same and secure. After a couple of minutes of checking, I got off the boat and tighten the rope on the ground to check to see if its good and tight. Suddenly I heard my cellphone vibrate going off and I stop my track with a puzzled look.

"What the..?" I looked back and gasp to see a big chubby raccoon that was holding my cell phone in his two paws. It looks at it curious after it's done vibrating and shook it roughly as if it wants to know how it's working. It puts my cell phone in its mouth and chewed to taste it. "Hey drop that!" I got up fast and ran to it but the Raccoon was startled and zoom from his spot with my cell phone in its paws.

"Give me back my cell phone you little bandit!" I begin to chase that little thief with my flashlight all around the campground and it bolted out into the woods and I followed it fast without hesitation to get my phone back.
