Author's Note:
I do not own any of these characters.
Tikki was sick... deliriously sick. Marinette was trying her best to track down Master Fu, but it was difficult given the fact he was hiding from Hawk Moth. She never realized just how bad things were going to get with a sick kwami.
She knew Plagg could use his powers outside the miraculous... and was actually getting better at controlling it. Tikki on the other hand had always kept tight control of her powers... had being the key word. What Marinette witnessed that day while trying to track down Master Fu left her completely speechless and in awe of Tikki's true power... unrestrained creation.
Her first clue that Tikki was not in her right mind was when she passed Baby August... who was once again crying for a lollipop. As she passed him, she heard Tikki giggle and August immediately quieted. She turned back only to find August's mother trying desperately to dig him and his stroller out from under a pile of lollipops that had magically formed.
She ran back over to the pile of lollipops and helped free August. Smiling nervously at his anxious mother and offered no answers to her questions about what had just happened. Once August was free, Marinette was thanked and she made her way into an alley. "Tikki! What was that about?"
"He wanted lollipops... I gave him lollipops." Tikki giggled again and Marinette's expression grew in concern. This was going to be bad... really bad... if she couldn't get to Master Fu quickly.
Marinette hurried out of the alley and rushed down the sidewalk. Tikki giggled again and Marinette stopped in her tracks. She slowly turned around, afraid of what she might find. What she did find could only be described as three-meter tall blades of grass that had once struggled to break forth through the sidewalk.
Tires squealed next to her... followed by a crash. Officer Roger got out of his now compact police car and looked at the newly towering blades of grass. He shook his head after a few seconds and then called in an Akuma Alert over the police radio.
Tikki giggled again...
Suddenly, over-the-top humanoid beings appeared all around Roger. They chanted in unison, "Give us Ladybug and Cat Noir's miraculouses!"
Marinette sped away... knowing it was Tikki that had created those akumas instead of Hawk Moth. The akumas chased after Marinette, nipping at her heals and calling after her, "She's the perfect bait. Ladybug and Cat Noir are sure to come rescue her."
Thankfully, they weren't very fast. But, true to form, Marinette tripped on air and braced for an impact with the cement. Suddenly, she felt two strong arms garb her and she went sailing through the air.
As Cat Noir landed them safely on a nearby roof, Tikki giggled again...
Suddenly, a dozen Adriens were swarming to Marinette's side trying to take care of her and arguing over which one was going to be able to help her. Cat Noir's mouth fell open and he, probably for the first time ever, didn't have a good pun or snide remark to make.
"Uh... Princess?" Cat Noir finally got the words out. "Is... Is the akuma after you or something?"
Marinette shoved her way out of the gaggle of Agrestes and announced unceremoniously... without thinking... "It's not an akuma! It's Tikki. She's sick!"
Marinette's hand flew up to her mouth as the Adriens looked at her in shock along with Cat Noir. It was quiet enough for Cat Noir to hear Tikki giggle this time. Before he knew it, he was swarmed with Ladybugs all trying to flirt with him. Marinette just groaned and face-palmed, shaking her head. "See what I mean!"
"I'm starting to..." Cat Noir was hesitant with his next word... "Bugaboo?"
Marinette looked at him like she wanted to shrink away into nothing right before his eyes, but thankfully... or not, depending on your point of view… Tikki was the kwami of creation and not destruction. Marinette nodded slowly since it was too late to deny it.
The swarm of Ladybugs finally noticed the gaggle of Agrestes and filed away from Cat Noir at top speed to pair up... leaving just the real Marinette and Cat Noir face to face. Cat Noir blinked at the sight of the fake pairings of couples fawning over each other. He looked back at Marinette and asked, "Do you... Do you have a crush on Adrien Agreste? Is... Is that the boy you've been rejecting me for?"
Marinette looked back at the scene playing out behind her and then to Cat Noir. She opted to give him a sad nod. Apparently with Tikki being sick, she was going to enjoy giving away all of Marinette's secrets... and Marinette was finally giving into that fact.
Tikki giggled again...
The duo looked around and nothing instantly seemed to appear... until the first blue scarf fell from the sky. The teens looked up to see more blue scarfs heading down upon them. Cat Noir reached for his baton, but grabbed an umbrella instead. He shrugged, pulled Marinette close, and opened the umbrella to protect them from the rain of blue scarfs.
As soon as the umbrella opened, Tikki giggled and the couple were buried neck deep in heart-shaped Valentine's Day cards. Cat Noir looked at Marinette in surprise. "Well, My Lady. I think we need to get Tikki feeling better... and fast. I think we need to get Plagg to help."
"Plagg? But... that means... you'd need to detransform."
"I know it'll be quite the shock, but I don't think we have a choice. Only Plagg can keep up with Tikki's creation by destroying what she creates." Marinette sighed a little, knowing Cat Noir was right. She nodded and Cat Noir responded with, "Plagg! Claws In!"
Marinette's face burned bright red as she found herself buried in heart-shaped cards next to the real Adrien Agreste. Adrien just smiled nervously. "Surprise!"
"My, my... What a unique reveal. I have to hand it to your Sugar Cube... even I never would've thought about doing it that way."
Tikki phased through the cards and giggled. "Okay Stinky Socks... See if you can keep up!" Tikki darted off and Plagg was kind enough to cataclysm the cards, freeing Adrien and Marinette, before taking off after her.
Adrien and Marinette watched from the roof as Tikki would fly over and create something followed immediately by Plagg turning it to ash. The park was turned into a forest, and then wiped out. Giant scoops of ice cream dropped on Andre... which Plagg chose to eat instead of destroying. A hundred Sabrinas started chasing Chloe... and Plagg just laughed before moving on without fixing it.
The door to the roof slammed opened behind Adrien and Marinette... revealing, to their relief, Master Fu. "Thank goodness! Master Fu! Tikki is sick!"
Master Fu looked between the two teens, taking in the fact that they obviously had been outed by the sick kwami. He nodded. "This is serious. The last time Tikki was this delirious, she created the Amazon Jungle."
"Tikki made the Amazon?"
Master Fu nodded and pulled out the miracle box. "When she was afraid for her chosen because of the invading Huns, she made the Great Wall of China... just a bit longer than she had planned." He opened the miracle box and pulled out the Bee Miraculous. "One time in Ancient Egypt, she was simply explaining the constellations, and accidentally created the Great Pyramids of Giza when she sneezed while pointing out Orion's Belt." Master Fu said a small incantation and Pollen appeared. She greeted the trio. "We need you to concentrate and paralyze just Tikki."
"I'll try, Master."
Tikki, followed closely by Plagg, zipped by the roof giggling. Pollen concentrated, paralyzing Tikki... and Plagg (purely on accident... of course).
Master Fu ran over to the kwamis and started his ritual to cleanse Tikki of her sickness. He had hardly finished when the paralysis wore off. Tikki and Plagg snapped to and looked at Pollen. She looked away and muttered an apology before being sucked back into her miraculous and placed back into the miracle box.
"Plagg..." Master Fu looked at the kwami of destruction with determination. "You need to clean up the rest of Tikki's creations."
Plagg looked over at the plethora of Ladybugs and Adriens cooing over each other. They looked up in horror as Plagg approached. With a wave of his paw, they all turned into coal. Plagg zoomed across Paris, erasing the Sabrinas and the akumas.
Ash covered most of Paris and Master Fu turned to Tikki. "One more creation… just create enough rain to wash away all the ash." Tikki nodded and rain began to fall from the sky... even though there wasn't a cloud in sight.
Tikki flew over to Marinette with an embarrassed look on her tiny face. "I'm sorry, Marinette."
"It's okay Tikki. I can't blame you when you were sick and didn't know what you were doing."
"Thanks, Marinette!" Tikki flew over an gave her chosen a hug on her cheek.
The sound of the door shutting was the only indication that Master Fu had left. Adrien scratched the back of his neck and commented, "He sure is quiet for a man his age."
Marinette looked at Adrien, but turned away when his eyes left the door and turned back to her. She sunk into herself thinking about how her last real interaction with Adrien had ended. The phrase, "the girl that I love," began repeating in her head. If she wasn't embarrassed enough over being indirectly rejected, she now knew it was her as Ladybug telling him as Cat Noir that he joked too much. She was the reason for everything. Her stupid childhood crush on Adrien is what had caused all of this mess.
"Hey? Bugaboo? What's wrong?"
"It's all my fault..."
"Hey! No you weren't the one who made Tikki sick... None of it's your fault!"
"That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about this..." Marinette pointed back and forth between herself and Adrien. "I'm just a foolish schoolgirl with a foolish crush... that wreaked havoc on both our lives."
"It's not all your fault. I'm the one who was too blinded by Ladybug to see what was literally right in front of me this whole time. Until the other day... I never even considered the possibility that you liked me as more than a friend. I always thought you liked Luka. I even said as much to Plagg when..." Adrien slapped his forehead.
"When?"
"When you brought over the assignment after Stormy Weather made the volcano. I thought it was the same handwriting as the writing on the Valentine's Day card I always thought Ladybug had written for me."
"Apparently she did..." Marinette giggled a little.
"Okay... so that explains the cards, the umbrella was obvious... at least to me at first, and now I'm sure to you... The Adriens and Ladybugs... but... why the blue scarfs that my father gave me?"
Marinette tapped her fingers together and smiled nervously. "Because... maybe it wasn't from you father?"
Adrien's eyes widened. "And you just let me go on believing it when I should've been thanking you!"
Marinette nodded shyly. "You just looked... so happy. I... I couldn't take that away from you."
Adrien's eyes softened. "That just so..."
"Ladybug of me?"
"... Marinette of you."
Marinette smiled a little at that. "I... I'm sorry for rejecting you all this time for... well... you."
"Well at least I can quit being jealous of the other guy... of me that is."
Marinette giggled a little. "I know the feeling... Remember the day my father was akumatized?"
"Yeah..."
"I was relieved at first when you didn't show up on time... thinking you weren't coming because of your crush on Ladybug. I actually got a little jealous thinking you might've decided to give up on Ladybug when you did finally show up."
Adrien let out a laugh and put his arm around her. "We're two peas in a pod... aren't we?"
After spending the rest of the afternoon talking on the roof, the teens finally parted ways and went home. They agreed to tell everyone that they got trapped in the chaos and had to face each other... and talk things out. It left out all the key details without being a complete lie.
