A Morning Tradition of Bean-Juice

Hermione turned over and half-asleep she knocked her black alarm clock to the floor, the batteries going flying across the bedroom; littering the floor.

She groaned pulling the blankets over his head, the sunlight streaming into the master bedroom. The birds had decided 5am was a good time to be awake and made sure they were singing loud enough to wake up the entire household.

Hermione eventually tossed the blankets aside with single-minded determination. Her feet finding her fluffy lion slippers; her one reminder of her past house colors.

She trudged downstairs to the kitchen with the swiftness and grace of an overweight rhinoceros. When she reached the kitchen she ignored her husband sitting at the table with his Daily Prophet. Draco was always amused by his wife's morning ritual, and the way she didn't say a word until she had her first cup of coffee.

She flipped the switch on the coffee maker and stood half-asleep watching as it came to the boil.

"Does mommy do this every morning?" Scorpius asked with a giggle. Draco nodded; Scorpius had never been awake before Hermione before, so this was his first time witnessing her morning routine.

The reason Scorpius was awake so early this morning was that he had been promised they would go visit his Granny Cissa today.

As the coffee reached a boil, Hermione sighed and poured a cup into her "No 1 Mom" mug, adding one heaped teaspoon of sugar, and a dash of full fat cream. The breathed in the heavy aroma; sighing happily. She took the first sip from her mug and let our a grateful groan. She was almost ready to face the day.

Draco laughed; sipping on his own pitch black coffee.

"Father, what is that? Why is mommy juicing the beans?" Scorpius asked curiously.

"That is coffee," Draco explained. "It is made from coffee beans."

"So, like orange juice but with those black beans?" Scorpius queried.

"Basically," Draco explained taking another sip of his coffee.

"So, it's bean-juice," Scorpius decided, and laughingly Draco agreed to the logic; it was sound.

Hermione looked up from her mug and took her first look across the room, noticing the two men in her life curiously observing her behaviour.

"Morning Scorpius," she greeted her son; and walked over to her sitting husband to give him a peck on the cheek.

"Father, may I taste the bean-juice?" Scorpius asked curiously. Draco's Slytherin side decided that it would be quite entertaining, so he allowed the boy to take a sip from his mug.

"Yuck!" Scorpius exclaimed, spraying said sip of coffee across the kitchen table. Without waiting for instructions, he walked over to the sink to get a cloth to clean up the table. "Maybe when I'm older." He said seriously, eyeing the offensive cup of coffee.

"Maybe when your older." Hermione replied, grinning into her empty mug.
