Arthur sat on the bench of the royal garden and stared at the two flowers he had plucked a while ago. A sad smile appeared on his lips as he remembered the last time he held them in his hands. It had been Eve's birthday.

Flashback. (AN: I realized later on, that even though this is supposed to be Arthur's memory I wrote it using Evelyn's viewpoint... I know, I know, my mistake but I'm too lazy to re-write it all in Arthur's view, so please forgive me on this one, I still think it's good xD)

"Come on, Evie. Just tell me." He said as he lingered on the counter as she worked.

Eve glared at him. "For the last time! No, I'm not telling you my birthday."

"Why not?

"I don't like it. It's a ridiculous celebration! Why should people care that another year passed on my life? Ridiculous." She turned around and walked away from the counter to the cellar, where she began counting the bottles and barrels and scribbling their amount on a small sheet of paper.

Arthur followed her. "I care, and I want to celebrate it."

She stared at him and shook her head. "No."

"Come on, don't make me beg." He said with a charming smile on his lips as he approached her and removed the chart from her hands.

"Arthur, give me tha-"

His lips crashed with hers, and Eve quickly melted when his tongue played with hers. When they parted he smirked. "Please?"

She held the need to blush and instead did her best to glare at him.

"Fine! But don't you dare make a fuss about it!"

He smiled and kissed her lightly again. "So, when is it?"

"… June 21st."

His smile fell as he realized what the date was today. "That's in two weeks!"

"Yes. And I don't want ANY fuss! Do you understand Arthur!"

He was no longer listening to her, his mind already trying to sort what present he should give her, or what surprise he should do.

"Arthur!" She called at him annoyed.

Arthur smiled. "I need to go, love. Put the lads' drinks in my tab." He gave her a swift kiss and walked out the door, leaving a blushing and annoyed Eve behind.

Two weeks later.

Eve woke up early, as usual. She got up, washed, dressed and walked downstairs to start the day.

As she came down Clara joined her and the two girls began working. As they did the other waitress looked at the ceiling, specifically at the hole in it.

"We need to cover that up, Evie."

Eve's gaze shifted to the hole and she sighed. "I know, but things been low lately… I don't think we can afford it, right now."

"Can't you ask Arthur?"

The former military woman frowned at that idea. "I'm not asking Arthur for money."

Clara giggled. "I meant, ask him to fix it. I'm sure he would be happy to."

The black-haired woman thought about it for a moment, the image of Arthur shirtless fixing the roof etched a smile on her lips.

"The view would be extraordinary. And maybe we could get some female costumers."

The waitress laughter filled the room. "You're going to use your lover as a profitable show?"

Eve shrugged her shoulders amused. "He does it at the brothel with the girls. Why not do it here with guys?"

Clara still laughed at the idea. "Aren't you afraid some girl might steal him from you?"

Eve tilted her head to the side and smirked. "They can try, I won't stop them. But I won't be responsible for what happens AFTER they've left the tavern." Her eyes shinned dangerously making Clara shiver at her words.

In a way, Eve was like Arthur, as long as it was work they didn't mind, but when it crossed the line the two were ruthless.

The two finished their jobs earlier than usual, giving Eve more time to spare until they opened the doors.

"I guess we have some time to spare," Clara said as she approached her friend who was behind the counter, counting the money from last night.

"Hmm…" Eve handed Clara a bag of coins and got another one out. "Here's your share from yesterday, and when Rosalie shows up give her these."

Clara got the two pouches and raised an eyebrow when she noticed the later was lighter than hers. "Rosalie's one is lighter, did you cut her wage?"

"I added to your wage for helping out and took from hers for bringing the Blacklegs who broke the ceiling," Eve said as she pointed at the ceiling.

"She's not going to like that…" The black-haired woman shrugged her shoulders.

"I'm not Carl, so she can't sleep her way in. The Tavern is mine now, and she needs to do more around here. Besides, I'm being generous still having her around."

Clara hummed, she reached for her pouch and got out some coins she placed on the counter, making Eve raise an eyebrow at her. "For the rent."

"You don't have to do that, Clara."

"I want to, ever since you came and took over, I've never been this well. I have money to pay taxes, to buy clothes, a roof and warm food." Clara's rosy lips curled upwards as she stared at Eve. "All thanks to you, Evie."

Eve smiled and took the coins into the pouch she kept to herself. "Appreciate it, then."

She then rummaged some more on the money and divided it into equal bags. "Watch the inn for a bit? I need to drop this off in the tax office, then to the blacklegs and finally see if Arthur is in the Brothel."

The waitress nodded, and Eve went out the door, completing her chores.

When Eve was finally at the brothel it was already 9:30, by her counts.

She said hello to the girls she knew as she passed them, and walked in towards Arthur's office, where she found Wet Stick, handling the money.

"Morning Tristan."

"Mornin' Miss Eve. Arthur ain't in."

She raised an eyebrow at him, as she placed the last pouch before him. "This week's gains, I need someone to fix the ceiling, some Blacklegs hit a hole on my second floor. Where has he gone so early?"

Wet Stick tensed at her question before he smiled charmingly. "I'll send some of the lads to check it out, free of charge. I think he went to George's?"

"You think?"

"… Yes?"

Eve could notice the tension in his shoulders, the cringe in his forehead and the slight shift to the side, all signs that he was lying to her. She sighed.

"Okay, I guess I can talk to him later. See you, Tristan."

Wet Stick smiled and before he could stop himself he said something he shouldn't. "Happy Birthday, Miss Eve." He quickly tensed, as he realized what he had done and when he saw Eve stop and look at him.

Her eyes squinted and she glared at him. "He didn't…" She approached Wet Stick and saw as the man tried to get away by appearing to be smaller. "Where's Arthur, Tristan."

"… I have no idea."

"Don't lie to me. Where's that good for nothing man?"

Tristan tried to search for a way out, or plead for the girls who had heard Eve's voice to safe them. Thankfully some had pity on his soul.

"He's out, he's preparing a surprise for your birthday, Evie." Sophy came up the stairs all ready for the day with a smile on her face.

Eve sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. "I said, no gifts, and no fuss!"

The girls giggled amused. "Did you really think Arthur would listen?"

A smile curved in her lips. "I suppose not. Oh well…" Eve walked down the stairs and away from the girls. "Bye, girls."

"See you later, Evie." They all answered happily as the woman walked out.

As she strolled back to the inn, Eve thought of many ways to punish Arthur for disobeying her when she reached the inn, she noticed the crowd entering and she quickened the pace, for another day of work.

"Stop." When she reached the doors, however, Clara stopped her with a smile.

"What?" Eve asked confused as she stared at Clara.

The waitress's eyes only shined with amusement and her smile deepened as she raised her hands before her, revealing a small bouquet of three Amaryllis flowers. "These are for you, Arthur left them here along with a card."

Eve blushed as she took the flowers from Clara. Never in her life had she received flowers from a man. She then opened the card and her blush deepened even further.

"Today you're going to go to specific places and receive from them a flower that represents my feelings and thoughts for you. The first flower is in honour of your Splendid beauty. You'll find the next one, with George. So, chop, chop, love. I'm waiting."

She stared at the flowers and sighed. "I never thought he could be so… sappy."

"I think it's romantic. So, hurry on, Arthur told me that today's your birthday, you're NOT working in the inn."

Eve glared at Clara before staring back at the flowers and sighing. "When did he come over?"

"Right after you left. He said he waited for you to leave."

"Cocky bastard, I shouldn't have told him what I was doing today."

Clara only smiled and pushed her away. "Go on!"

Eve sighed and did as she was told, holding the flowers in her hand and the card in the other she walked towards the old Bathhouse.

When she reached there the lads were waiting for her. George took a hold of her hand and guided her to a seat and Eve watched as the men before her performed a little show, where they showed her their skills.

She giggled when they tried comedy, and she laughed/cried when they tried drama. When the show was over Dell approached her and handed her a bundle of Carnations, with another card.

"Happy Birthday, Miss Evie." She couldn't help but smile at them, all a bunch of machos, but all sweet and kind.

"Thank you." She took the card and read the inside message.

"A Carnation, in honour of the admiration I have for you. Next stop, Brothel."

Eve joined the other bundle to the other flowers, said goodbye to the boys and walked back to the Brothel.

There the girls all smiled when they saw her, and they took the flowers from her and placed them in a jar of water while they took her to the backroom, where they PREPARED her.

The girls gossiped with Eve as they did her hair and chose her clothes. When they were done, Eve was wearing a lovely red dress, with gold lace on her arms and waist and small jewels embedded in it. Her hair half braided, and half loosed but styled. And as the last touch the girls had perfumed, EVERY inch of her body with rose water.

They looked at her content with their work and handed her the flower Arthur readied for her.

Eve stared at the bundle of Camellias, and as she read the adjoined card she blushed.

"A Camellia, for my strong desire for you. Final stop, the old Aqueduct. Hurry up."

She rolled her eyes and watched the girls.

"Tell me the truth, you guys helped him. There's no way Arthur knows flower language."

They all smiled and handed her a dark blue velvet cape. "Off you go now. He's waiting."

Eve threw the cape over her shoulders and began to walk towards the door, they handed her the rest of the flowers and once again Eve walked out of the brothel and in search of her boyfriend. She was surprised when she noticed that it was, already, past noon. Her stomach complained slightly about the lack of food, but she moved on anyway.

She reached the Aqueducts after a while of walking, they were slightly further away from the city. Her fiery gaze stopped on the old house of stone that was still up, and she walked towards it.

As she drew closer Eve began noticing the fire torches and when she reached the house her mouth opened in shock and surprise. A warm fire in the middle, a small table with food and wine, blankets and pillows laid over a red carpet and Arthur standing there with a jar and more flowers, some new and others like the ones she had received.

She stopped and looked at him, and saw how he gave her a dashing smile, she shook her head, a smile on her lips.

Eve walked his way and he extended the jar to her. She placed the flowers she had in it and stared at the new ones. She recognized the roses, but the other two she didn't. One was pure white, and the others were blue. The blue ones were small flowers with five, blue, star-shaped petals, white strikes that left from an orange middle. The white one reminded her of a Camellia, but it was… different. Eve stared at him.

"What do these mean?"

Arthur suppressed a blush and pulled Eve towards him with a smile. "It means, Happy Birthday." He placed a soft kiss on her lips, trying to end the matter there.

He wasn't going to tell her. It was too embarrassing for him to say the meanings of those, particular, flowers.

The blue ones were Forget-me-not's and they meant true love, memories and hope. The white ones were Gardenias which meant secret admiration and Love. And finally, the pink-white Rose meant; 'Love you still and will always love you.'

End Flashback.

Arthur twirled the flowers in his hand… they were the only things, at the moment, that expressed his exact feelings.

The pink-white rose and the small forget-me-not's...

She couldn't help it. The shock of knowing his identity the rage and anguish that she felt were all caused by him!

She discharged her gun, fully aware that the bullet would never hit him. Still, she fired.

Like she'd suspected the bullet merely fell to the ground and Merlin looked at her with a neutral expression.

"There was no need for that." He stated.

"Yeah, I know. Still… I'm pissed at you, right now." She spit out. Eyes shining with rage and her flames leaping from her body in response to her emotions.

He didn't seem offended, as he combed his beard with his fingers and nodded. "Understandable, I guess." His blue eyes fell on her and on her flames. "May I?" He asked politely as he pointed at her.

She wanted to say no, tell him if he got any closer she would burn him to a crisp, but…

"Fine." She sighed.

He approached her and closely examined her flames. "A golden colour, normally a Phoenix flame borders between the red and yellow spectrum… Gold is very rare… I'm impressed that you already have control over them, without training."

She scoffed. "Yes, well, dying kind of precedes training."

"Indeed…" He eyed the marking in her arm and the ones beneath her eyes for a moment, before he stepped back to his initial spot. "So, did you like you enjoy that world? The famous Arthur and the sword Excalibur, must have been exciting." He asked with a smile.

Eve blinked twice before fully understanding what he had asked, her rage surfaced again. "Are you fucking kidding me!? Was this a game to you!?"

"No, on the contrary, my dear, THIS, you and Arthur were everything I wanted. I couldn't be more happy with the results."

"What?" That wasn't what she had expected.
