Hey everyone! This is my third poem for the Hunger Games and I hope you enjoy it! Everyone seemed to love the others and you guys inspired me to write more poems! This is from Katniss's POV. I hope you like it!
It took a lot to show me
How much I really cared
It took a show of life and death
To spark a love that flared
I nearly died and never could
Repay the boy with bread
The weakness made me mad at myself
I faced him always in dread
I heard his name up on the stage
I recognized the debt I'd neglected
I realized then that I couldn't return
Not if his payback was collected
I resolved then to hate him forever
As long as the games were on
Payback or not, a promise was made
That I'd fight until I was gone
Quickly I learned that this wasn't his way
He'd give up his life for mine
Just another debt I could never repay
But he still managed made me shine
We pretended that we were star crossed lovers
That sent the crowds happiness above
Who would think that the boy who I thought I would hate
I could actually come to love
I fought with my feelings, against love and hate
For the boy who knew nothing but love
I fought with myself for what it was worth
For his plans, I knew nothing of
On the roof in the dark he spoke the truth
"I don't want to be a piece in their games"
I realized then that he wasn't to hate
Of my dislike for him, nothing remains
As we rise to our fate, we stand or we fall
All I saw was a shake of his head
I knew he would run, I wanted him too
Maybe one of us wouldn't be dead
I saw him stay with the Careers that night
My rage was something to see
After my attempt to try and kill him
He still wanted to save me
I found him alone by the river, injured
Many of his wounds I bound
In the cave our lips touched for real the first time
Our true love then was found
I watched him nearly die in the cave
Of things beyond my power
I begged and pleaded for someone to help
The feast was announced that hour
I went to the feast and almost died
The knife tracing around my face
It was then that I realized I would die for him
I was saved by a tributes rare grace
He and I were nearly safe
The last group standing upright
We thought that maybe we were going to make it
And then the mutts made us fight
An uneven battle we nearly lost
Against mutts and the last living boy
We fought to the death and we both nearly died
We won though it brought us no joy
The voice then announced only one could go home
And I now faced the boy that was dear
I held out the berries cause we both had to lose
And we faced it without a tear
We were saved just then by the hovercraft above
Without both having to die
I knew that those berries would later cause trouble
But for now it was just he and I
I couldn't bear the thought of living without him
Without his love and his care
Now I'm glad that I held out those berries that day
Cause the rebellion set us free from the snare
Now forever I'll love
And forever I'll keep
The boy with the bread
Who's love runs deep
For me
I hope you guys enjoyed it! Shout out to Tributes of District 2 for the suggestion and to JStar14H and the other authors who were so supportive of my poetry!
