Chapter18: Thoughts.

As she walked home, Nami was engulfed in her thoughts because she began to plan for her new future which included a child, and thinking about it deeply, the weight of responsibility that awaited her reminded her that she was in a really serious situation, it was true that being a mom was going to be a great experience, but unfortunately, it was not going to be easy, she was going to have to change her whole lifestyle and work hard to be able to be well financially, not to mention the fact that she was forced to avoid unnecessary expenses and calculate every Berry that came out of her pocket.

Nami swallowed a lump as her fears slowly returned, she felt that she was unable to offer the child a decent life, she could barely support herself with her monthly salary, unfortunately life is expensive and a child too, besides, she didn't want to ask her family for help because she knew they were no better than her, not to mention the fact that it was unfair to involve them in the situation she arrived at because of the mistakes she had made and her own choice.

The redhead wanted to laugh at herself because while she was squeezing her brain to find a solution that could ensure a good future for her baby, Mr. Trafalgar Law was at peace and had no concerns as he was also responsible for the conception of the child, besides, the money to him was nothing because he was apparently super rich, but despite that, Nami was not going to ask him for financial help, she didn't need the charity of a bad guy like him, she would rather sell her soul to the devil than tell him to bear the costs of the child.

Nami wanted to scream a series of curses, now she remembered that she had to tell Law he was going to be a daddy, and that was a very difficult thing to do because she was going to have to create a conversation with him, talking to him after what he did to her was sure to be painful, but she had to do it herself in order to know what the man's reaction would be by seeing his facial expression, plus it was something very personal, she was the one to bring it up with him.

All the negative thoughts that invaded her mind were forgotten when she stopped in front of a pastry shop window, Nami's eyes sparkled as she gazed at all the wonders on display, especially a pink colored round cake, the strawberry cake was the one that caught her attention the most, she could smell its scent tickling her nostrils even through the glass separating her from it and she imagined the sweet taste in her mouth which was salivating from her urge to eat it; without further ado, she entered the store and bought it, it will be her breakfast because she hadn't eaten anything since she woke up.

Walking with long steps, Nami rushed to the apartment as she could no longer resist the temptation to eat the strawberry cake, and when she arrived she felt happy when she heard the sound of the shower water flowing, apparently Robin has finally decided to come home, Nami needed her very much, after the decision she had made, the advice of her wise best friend will give her more courage to overcome her fears and face her future without hesitation.

While waiting for Robin to finish her shower, Nami went to the kitchen and made tea, she knew her friend was on an empty stomach because she was not eating anything due to her worry for Zoro, but Nami was going to make her eat a piece of the cake she had bought.

No longer having the patience to wait for her friend to finish the shower so that she can eat with her, Nami cut up the cake and picked up a piece before literally starting to devour it, as she swallowed every bite, the redhead felt more and more euphoric, she was so engrossed in her tasting that she didn't even notice Robin walking towards her.

"Hi," The dark-haired woman greeted, sitting down on the chair next to her friend, Nami could not respond verbally due to the large amount of cake in her mouth, that's why, she growled in greeting. "Have you caught Bonney Syndrome?" She asked after she felt surprised to see Nami stuffing herself like that, not even taking a second for a break.

"Yeah," Nami tried to say after she swallowed, her voice was still muffled, which is why she drenched her throat with tea. "Apparently it's contagious," She laughed before taking another sip of her tea. "So how's Zoro doing?"

"He woke up last night," Robin responded with a smile on her lips. "That's why Law sent us all home, he said there's nothing to worry about," She explained as she poured a cup of tea for her. "I will visit him tonight, right now I need a rest."

"That's great," Nami commented, pretending to be happy at the news that didn't matter to her, besides, she knew that Zoro was going to wake up sooner or later because it wasn't a simple accident that would kill him. "Eat it." She offered a piece of the cake to her friend.

"Thanks," The brunette accepted the cake before raising an eyebrow. "So how was the doctor's appointment?" She asked after she was a little hesitant to bring up the subject with the other woman.

"It was really…," Nami began to mentally search for an appropriate word to describe what she had really felt. "Magic," She took a break as her facial expression turned cheerful. "I think my maternal instincts woke up when I saw my baby on the screen and especially when I heard its heartbeat, after that, I couldn't deny the fact that there was a being who lived inside of me."

"I see you made your decision." Robin pointed out, smiling in relief.

"Yes," The redhead nodded before giving Robin the image of the ultrasound. "Look at my baby."

"I think your child looks a lot like you." The brunette joked as she carefully examined the photo.

"The doctor said I'm nine weeks pregnant." Nami said before taking a bite of the cake.

"And when are you going to tell Law?" Robin asked, looking at her friend with narrowed eyes.

"I don't know," Nami shrugged after heaving a long sigh, Robin's question had been spinning in her mind ever since she left the doctor's office. "I don't know if I should do it when I see him again or maybe I have to wait for a special moment, which is not going to happen due to the conflict between me and Law."

"I think you have to do it the day you feel ready to face him," Robin counseled her with a soft voice that could soothe her even in her worst moments. "Anyway, I am and always will be by your side, don't worry, I will be your baby's second mom."

"When you talk like that, you make me suspect about my sexual orientation," Nami sniffled as tears began to accumulate in her eyes. "I love you Robin." She cried as she jumped on her friend before hugging her.

"Don't cry," The brunette comforted her by rubbing her back gently. "It must be the hormones that make you sensitive, calm down now, do you want the baby to be sad too?"

"Of course I don't want to," Nami whispered before wiping the tears off her face with the back of her hand, then she straightened up quickly. "Damn I still want to pee, probably because of the water I drank before the ultrasound."

"And I want to pass out," Robin gasped as she stood up. "I think it's time to recoup the hours of sleep I owe my poor body."

"And I am going to empty my poor bladder urgently." The redhead shouted as she rushed to the toilet.

"What the hell am I doing here?" Nami wondered inwardly for the umpteenth time as she walked through the halls of the hospital.

The redhead didn't understand how she ended up in the last place she wanted to be and most of all she was going to visit the last person she wanted to see, if it wasn't to comfort Robin who was grieved by Zoro's accident, Nami would never have offered to accompany her to the hospital to keep her company, but of course she did because she would always be with her friend at best and at worst if she needed her.

In a corner of her mind, Nami dreaded her next meeting with Law, which could happen at one point or another because she was in the man's territory, that's why, she kept praying endlessly that he wasn't there so that she will not feel pathetic more than she already did, that painful feeling consumed her heart every time she remembered what he had done to her, so if she saw him again it would be even worse and all the time she used to rebuild herself would be wasted as she would be back to square one.

Nami had worked a lot to forget and strengthen herself mentally so as not to feel weak anymore, but what had happened the day before was proof that she had not yet healed from her deep wound in her heart, when she saw Law, it was as if she had been petrified and her blood froze in her veins, she lost her voice and her breathing got stuck in her chest, and the biggest problem was that she was forced to face him in the near future to inform him about her pregnancy, which meant that even though she was running away from him now, sooner or later she was going to have to confront him one day.

"It's here." Robin said before knocking on a closed door, according to the din from inside the room, the group all came to visit Zoro.

"There's no point knocking because they can't hear with all that noise," Nami pointed out as she opened the door sharply, attracting the attention of everyone in the room. "You're in a damn hospital, so a little bit of silence you idiot." She shouted looking at Luffy, Usopp and Chopper who were apparently the cause of the din, the three men fell silent without questioning because of the murderous look she sent them.

"I see you're in a good mood," Zoro commented sarcastically, a broad smile gracing his face. "She has her period or what?" He asked Luffy whispering.

"Oh shut up or I'll send you back in a coma in express." She retorted in a frightening tone, raising her right fist in the air threateningly.

"How are you?" Robin asked quietly, stepping between the redhead and the man to interrupt the interaction between them.

"I'm fine after seeing you." Zoro replied offering his hand to the brunette for her to hold, after a moment of hesitation she finally accepted his offer.

"My god I wanna throw up," Nami mumbled, feeling disgusted at the green haired man's acting. "You take advantage of the fact that you are in your deathbed to play with Robin's feelings." She added with a grimace on her face.

"I'm not on my deathbed, Zoro horrified denied it before being surprised to see that the woman wasn't laughing, her face had turned paler and she covered her mouth with her hand. "What's wrong?"

"Nami!" Robin called her when she looked at her in concern.

"I'm actually going to throw up, what is that smell," Nami groaned as she began to examine the room with her eyes searching for the source of the smell that filled her nostrils, she noticed that across the room was Franky, Sanji and Law chatting, she hadn't been aware of their presence before because she was busy insulting Zoro, but now that she saw them, she had found out where the scent came from, apparently the blond haired man was smoking a cigarette. "Sanji!" She shouted before being interrupted by a tightening in her throat.

"Yes Nami," Sanji turned to her, but as soon as he saw the murderous aura she gave off, he felt he had a problem. "Are you OK?" He asked hesitantly.

"Are you OK?" The redhead repeated as her voice was muffled by her hand covering her mouth. "Do you know that smoking is prohibited in a hospital? In addition, you are in the presence of a sick man," She turned her gaze to Law. "I wonder do the doctors really do their jobs here?"

A heavy silence fell in the room, but Nami didn't care because she was busy watching the smoke emanating from the lit cigarette, and even after it had been extinguished its scent had already permeated the whole area, that's why, the redhead tried not to vomit as the nausea increased more and more, however that wasn't her only problem, suddenly her vision blurred and the room started to spin, she felt unstable and her legs had weakened, she could hear distant voices calling out her name, but she couldn't distinguish who it belonged to and she hadn't had time to do so as her eyes rolled back the moment she lost consciousness.

When she woke up, two familiar faces were looking at her with concern, one of them belonged to an unwanted person and the man in question had blinded her with a light as he apparently examined her eyes, Nami gathered what little energy she had and covered her eyes with her hand.

"Nami!" Robin moaned as she began to stroke the red hair. "You feel better."

"I want to vomit." Nami gasped as the liquid that burned her throat increased.

"Here," Law gave Robin a steel bean-shaped container. "Help her sit up." He asked the brunette because he didn't have the courage to do it himself.

Nami began to empty the contents of her stomach into the container, she could feel Robin's encouraging patting on her back which cheered her up, and after she's done throwing up, she felt much better and her body was more energetic, she noticed her surroundings for the first time since waking up, she was in another room in the hospital and that remark was enough to make her panic, that's why, she tried to get up to leave as quickly as possible.

"What are you doing?" Law asked as he stood in front of her, blocking her. "You need a consultation before you go."

"I'm fine," Nami lied as she tried to hide the trembling in her legs when she moved them. "I will feel much better after drinking a coke because I am probably low on sugar."

"I'm not blind, you can tell you're sick," He pointed out with an authoritative tone. "The same thing happened yesterday."

"I am not sick." She groaned before turning to Robin for help, but the brunette shrugged, apparently she didn't want to intervene.

"Whether you like it or not, you won't get out of here until you are examined." Law pointed out, explaining his ultimatum quietly.

"If I have to have a medical exam, okay I accept," Nami nodded after a long moment of thought. "But I demand to be examined by another doctor." She posed her condition too.

"Okay," He agreed without protesting because he knew she was right not to let him examine her after what he did to her. "I'll go get another doctor."

Nami let out a long sigh of relief when Law left the room because she was not yet ready to tell him the truth.

"What are you going to do?" Robin asked him after a while.

"I'm going to try and hide my pregnancy for a while, I'm not ready to tell him yet." Nami replied as she was thinking of a way out of her current situation.

"Okay." The brunette smiled softly at him.

The door opened before Law entered with another doctor, the man had blond hair in the shape of a palm tree and his eyes were half closed, Nami thought that all the doctors in that hospital looked sleepy, apparently they all had a lack of sleep.

"I'm counting on you Marco." Law said before leaving the room.

"I'll be right back." Robin whispered before following the dark haired man.

"So," The man named Marco began as he read something on a clipboard, Nami understood that Law had written down the information he needed. "Miss Nami, I see you are not very fit, loss of consciousness, pallor and vomiting, it is really worrying." He resumed, approaching her.

"Can I ask you a question?" She interrupted him eagerly.

"Yes." He agreed, looking at her with a surprised look.

"To my knowledge, a doctor has to keep medical confidentiality, does that apply to you too?" Nami asked with a serious tone.

"Yes of course." He acquiesced, nodding his head several times.

"I'm sure Law is going to ask you what I have, that's why, I want you to tell him that I have nothing at all." She explained as she twisted her fingers from the stress.

"May I know why you want me to lie to my colleague?" Marco asked as he frowned.

"Because I'm pregnant," She responded by raising her tone. "And I want to keep my situation a secret for now." She clarified, articulating each word to make her interlocutor understand the importance of her decision.

"That explains everything now." He deduced as he read the contents of the clipboard in his hands a second time. "But I have to check you out to make sure you don't have any complications."

"I'm fine, I already had a medical exam this morning at my gynecologist," She informed him quietly. "I just have a problem with a few smells that make me vomit."

"Okay." He nodded as he began to jot down his diagnosis in the clipboard.

"Hope you don't write that I'm pregnant?" Nami whispered with wide eyes.

"Don't worry, I'll say you just have a lot of stress and a lack of nutrition which is true from your skeletal appearance," He said nonchalantly. "I advise you to feed yourself properly for your own good and the good of your baby as well." He advised her as he headed for the exit.

"Thank you Doctor." Nami thanked him feeling relieved, she had just escaped a great worry, but she knew it was a matter of time before her pregnancy was discovered by Law if she continued to faint every time she met him.
