Godzilla: The Planet Eater

Both Must Fall: Return of the True King

A/N: Pretenders to the throne will be made to pay a high price for the right to rule.

With the submarine limited to just traveling in the water, the survivors of the last two attempts to defeat this Godzilla copycat could only wonder how the monsters that had lived in hiding with the true King of the Monsters could stand a chance against it now that they had consumed enough radiation to make Hiroshima look like a measly picnic.

"What do you think, Haruo?" Yuko asked as they tried to follow the ones that were capable of traveling by water.

"I hope that Godzilla can defeat this copycat this time," he answered her; he was probably still reeling in from the guilt he possessed that for the longest time, he'd been resenting what he thought was Godzilla because this plant creature had taken so much from everyone.

"This thing is just one creature," she reminded him. "The real Godzilla is allied with other monsters that also have a reason to want it gone. It either attacked them or their ancestors from long ago without any provocation, and now that Godzilla's back at full strength, they can get even with it."

"Even so, it's still bigger and has had over twenty-thousand years to get where it is now," one of the women expressed. "But strength in numbers gives Godzilla an edge against this pretender."

The sense of belief in Godzilla was split pretty evenly; half the people believed that the real Godzilla could win while the other half questioned the likelihood that it could still lose, even if allied with various survivors.

"If the real Godzilla prevails against his copycatting foe," went Martin to them, "I'll bow to the king myself."

But they could all agree on one thing that seemed to be a crucial fact right now: So long as they were in the water and away from the monsters, they were safe for the moment.

It felt something off with its hold on this world. Something was amok with the new order it had established long ago. It wasn't sure of what it was exactly, only that it was…interfering with its reign.

"Grr," it growled.

"…Uh, sir," a man spoke to Unberto Mori as he discovered several large radiation signatures that had emerged from a large body of water, "we have detected additional radiation signatures on the planet, different from Godzilla's."

"What?" He questioned. "How different?"

"They're not radiating any electromagnetic waves or pulses."

"What the Hell is going on down there?"

"Sir, you're not going to believe this, but we're picking up a radio transmission signal from a nuclear submarine," a woman announced to Mori.

-x-

"…We're actually receiving a communication signal from the Aratrum?" Haruo asked Adam after discovering that the sub was able to establish a link with the spacecraft.

"Yeah, and from the looks of it, the channel is open," he explained.

"What's going on down there?" They saw Mori's face on the screen. "We're picking up radiation signatures on the planet. Are there more Godzillas running around because of your actions?!"

"It's hardly what you think, sir," Martin uttered, "and the creature we thought was Godzilla wasn't what we thought."

"What do you mean, and you better have a good explanation for why I shouldn't have Sakaki executed for his reckless behavior."

"It turns out that the creature we thought was Godzilla is in actuality a plant organism that mimicked the original Godzilla, which was a benevolent beast, and it left the original in an injured state and attacked everything. But we found the original and restored it to full strength with several other creatures, survivors of the fake Godzilla's attacks on them, and not they're out there looking for it."

Burst! Finally, after sensing the reawakening of its more positive counterpart, Battra revived from thousands of years of slumber, fully regenerated due to slowly absorbing the radiation from the ground around it.

It could remember how the false guardian of the natural order had laid waste to itself and Mothra so long ago, and now was the time for more than just revenge against this creature that served no benefit to the natural order. It was time for all of the planet's true masters to rise and take back the world and restore its true order.

"Graaaurgh!" It shrieked as it generated the energy necessary for it to shed its larval form. "Gaaaurgh!"

Flash! Its larval body shifted as it rose up out of the ocean water and changed into its imago form, restored of its full strength.

Metphies sighed as he looked down at the Gerbetrium bead in his left hand. Something had changed since the aftermath of Mechagodzilla City's destruction, and he wasn't sure what it was, but it was much bigger than the rediscovery of other monsters from a time before this false Godzilla's usurping of the true king's mantle and reign.

Crack. The bead suddenly cracked in his hand.

"What?" He wondered; the Nanometal he had used to repair the bead hadn't damaged its structure, but something beyond his race's faith had made its presence known to him. "Oh, Exif, what has become of our fates now?"

For Metphies, it was an unanswerable question due to there being too many variables in the equation that threw everything off.

In the vast darkness of space, a small explosion occurred, unseen and unheard by anyone, and something bright and otherworldly emerged from the void. It remembered in various lifetimes of its victories and defeats, and how one such brutal defeat left it feeling eternally bitter. The body that had housed its essence had fallen to the beast that stood up against it for dominance over the lowly world within a system of planets that supported life, and after waiting for a long time, it could wait no more and abandoned its domain to satiate the one desire it had that couldn't be undone with the ruination and domination of other worlds: Revenge. Its soul hadn't lost any of its potency, but having existed on a plane where tangibility was no longer necessary left its goal only half accomplished. It would require something as close to its previous body as possible, and then…it would bring the end.

To be continued…

A/N: Not sure when the next chapter will be, but things are getting close to full circle. Can anyone take a guess on what will happen later?
