Birds of a Feather
Few things made Elizabeth McCord more insecure than losing Henry, and even fewer than losing him to another woman. Of course, this was utterly ridiculous and intellectually, she knew that. Henry would never leave her, especially not of temptation from an ex, who likely had no such intentions anyway. Her emotions were rarely so rational.
"You say that like it's not exactly how to seduce you."
"Uh huh, 'cause that's how I seduced you, taking you to all those academic conferences." He joked, trying to lighten her mood.
"No, of course not, because I wasn't your intellectual equal who challenged your arguments with laser-light precision." She replied, prepared with said reply. Always insecure that despite her own academic capabilities, it wasn't enough to keep him interested,
"There's only one woman who ever challenged with with laser-light precision." He leaned in, kissing her neck softly, trying to derail her anxiety with closeness.
Thinking on it for a moment, she gently pushed him back to meet his eyes. "You gotta admit, she's kinda exactly your type. Beautiful, passionate and driven for a humanitarian cause." Finally unveiling the root of her anxiety.
He stood up for a moment, appraising her, choosing his words and deepening his voice. "Let me make something perfectly clear." He moved a hand to cup her cheek and catching her hair between his fingers. "You are precisely my type."
His intensity catching her off guard. She glanced up at him curiously, waiting for his follow up.
Leaning in again, he pushed her to lean back as came close, his lips inches from hers, breath hot on her mouth. "In many ways more than physical." He kissed her then, gently, then deeply.
The familiar butterfly sensation touching her stomach as he slid through her defences. His hands firm against her sides, he lifted her easily, moving to hover over her in the centre of the bed. His hand back in her hair, catching her lips again, he pressed her down under him. "And I'll do my best to show you that, every day of our lives."
Instinctively parting her legs, she let him settle closer, animating her hands and gripping his sides. "You're mine too." She breathed, giving in to his demonstration.
"I always worried I wasn't burly enough for you." He chuckled.
Laughing with him, she slid her hands up his chest. "You are plenty burly enough for me."
As he slid his hands to cup her backside, grinding their hips briefly, the shrill ring of her phone cut the atmosphere, causing him to freeze and sigh, reminding him of the inevitable contents of the day. Elizabeth groaned, pushing him away, irritated to be brought back to reality so rudely. They'd have to finish this later.
