Life is Strange: In Our Time of Need

LIS oneshot down in Chloe's POV, an alternate take on what could happen at the hospital in Episode 3 of Before the Storm.

Disclaimer: I don't own Life is Strange or its characters.

If anyone asked me, honestly, what I remembered of the next several hours, I'd not be able to answer them. My mind just went into overdrive and things became hazy, although I did remember brief flashes. I remember bursting into the Waiting room with Rachel, the nurses coming to take her away.

I remember sitting there, sometimes pacing, all the time tears were falling, waiting in agony for news. Panicking every time I saw a nurse or doctor appear, only for them to talk to someone else. People came, were seen to, went, and still I sat there. It didn't get any easier when James and Rose showed up either.

I could barely talk to them and soon they left to follow the doctor to go and likely see Rachel, or to get news, but I didn't follow. I didn't know what was going on, my mind was going too fast.

'I can't, I can't lose her, I won't...' That same thought repeated again and again in my head.

Yet every minute that ticked by felt so long, and with no news, it induced even more panic. More people came and went, including some firemen, I vaguely remember spotting them due to the uniforms. But still, nothing, still, the panic gripped me tight and refused to let go. It remained that way for a long, long time.

In the end I couldn't take it anymore and found myself doing something surprise...I had pulled out my phone and was calling mom.

"Chloe, where are you, it's been so long, I thought…?"

I barely choked the words out. "Mom, I...I'm at the hospital, Rachel she..."

"What?" Mom gasped. "Rachel, hospital, what, what happened Chloe?"

I found myself choking out the story and before I could even offer a word of protest, mom insisted on coming and hung up. I wasn't sure how long I had been waiting but hearing rapidly approaching footsteps I looked up and sure enough mom was there, and David was with her.

'Oh shit, this is...' I thought desperately. 'Don't let him start anything, I can't...not with Rachel like this, I can't...'

Almost at once mom threw her arms around me, catching me off guard, I nearly fell off the seat.

"M-Mom..." I choked out.

Mom was shaking as she embraced me. "God, Chloe, you, how could this have…?"

I bit my lip, before awkwardly returning the hug, trying to think.

"Chloe..."

I tensed, looking up at David; he was pale, shaken, I was actually startled.

"What, this isn't the time for this David." I remarked. "Rachel is..."

He shook his head. "You saved that girl's life, Chloe, your quick thinking got her here before it was too late."

I froze, I hadn't expected that.

After a brief pause David sat down and explained softly.

"Listen, you made it here, you got Rachel to safety and...and I want us to try and fix this, rift between us."

I rolled my eyes at that. "Oh really, even after we said to each other, before, we..."

David sighed. "I was wrong, I misjudged you. Maybe you have a chance after all, you've shown you are capable as a mechanic, given what you did with that truck."

I bit my lip, I really hadn't expected this, but finally, I sighed and nodded and before long mom, David and I were all seated alongside each other, trying to keep out minds of the worst possible outcomes. Still scared, mom meanwhile did her best to comfort me. We looked up when we heard footsteps and saw James approaching. I tensed, wondering what he was going to say.
