Chapter 8

Clary POV

Even though she loved her job, it was nice to see Raven after all this time. They spent the whole day roaming the mall, chatting and catching up over coffee and reminiscing over their times at uni. Even though she had just missed graduation by dropping out in her final year, Raven and she had stayed close and she had supported her friend in any way that she could. Unlike a lot of the other people Clary talked to at that time, Raven didn't think she was incompetent for dropping out to look after her mom. Looking back on it, Clary wouldn't change a thing. Her mom was her favourite person and being there for her in the last few months of her life meant the world to her. Jocelynn did end up passing away after a year of treatment.

In regards to the present, the two friends were currently getting the nails done, Raven's treat against the protests of Clary. As the technicians did their work, Raven began to pester her about her 'hot boss' as she so eloquently put it.

"Come on, Clary! You can't deny that he's not a work of art!" she argued.

"I'm sorry but I can in fact deny it because my job depends on it! The last nanny literally got fired because they tried to make a move," Clary replied, trying and failing miserably to stop her cheeks from turning red at the thought. As if she hadn't already noticed that Jace looked like he belonged on the front of a magazine instead of behind a stack of paperwork. "Besides, I doubt he'd be interested in a drop out with no future," she muttered under her breath. It was only her bad luck that the brunette heard her.

"That settles it, you need to get back out there Fray! How long has it been since Raphael? A year? Two? Its time for you to get some action!" Raven encouraged.

Clary thought to herself. Sure it had been a while but that relationship had really scarred her physically and mentally.

The girls continued chatting as they left the mall and got into the car. The outing had been good for Clary, not having to worry about chores or meals for once.

Jace POV

Jace had finally decided to go and visit his brother Alec for the day. He lived in a modest house with his husband Magnus. Their parents had been a bit shocked when Alec came out but they supported him none the less once the shock had worn off. They ended up loving Magnus like another son.

"All I'm saying is that you should start thinking of settling down Jace, you know?" Izzy is living with that guy but from the way she speaks, I don't think it'll be long before he proposes. Magnus and I are already married and you're still living the single life with 4 kids to looks after." his brother said as he nursed a beer.

Jace thought that their situation was quite an odd one in his opinion. Will and he seemed like the least likely to settle down and yet Will had been the first to marry and have children, the very children that Jace was entrusted with at his death. Alec was the most likely out of the four siblings to settle down early and yet he happened to find a wild partner, with no children in the near future as far as Jace could see.

"I've got a lot on my plate right now Alec. Work hasn't calmed down and my workload hasn't let up now that Will is gone," Jace said tiredly. "Besides I don't think anyone genuine would be interested in a 27-year-old bachelor with four kids. Everyone so far has only been interested in my wealth. I don't want that for the kids."

Alec watched his brother. Even though they were the same age, Jace looked as if he had the world upon his shoulders. A law firm to run. 4 kids to raise. Settling Will and Tessa's affairs. All that stress and Alec would've probably been a mess. That was one of the reasons Alec didn't pursue his father's dreams for him to be a lawyer and take over the firm. Robert was understanding enough and ecstatic when not only one but both of his adopted sons wished to follow in his footsteps.

"I know you're gonna say its a load of crap but trust me when I say that the right person will come along eventually. Someone who'll look after not only you but the kids too. How are the little squirts anyways?" said Alec.

They continued to catch up on all that they had missed out. Jace hated using the phone to talk to those he found important and all of his family knew that too. That's why he always made it a point to invite his siblings over every once in a while for dinner or lunch. Hence why Izzy and Alec were due to come over the next day. As they said their goodbyes when the sun had already set, Alec said, "Magnus and I are looking forward to meeting this nanny you've spoken so much about. Oh yeah, and Izzy mentioned that she'll be bringing Simon too." He said with a small smile as he saw Jace scowl. Alec already knew that Jace didn't necessarily have the warmest feelings for the guy and only tolerated him for their sister's sake.

"Last time I checked I didn't remember inviting the rat," Jace grumbled as he left his brother's house. When he got home, he could see a little light coming from the living room. Upon entering, he saw Clary asleep on the couch with a pencil at the foot of the couch and a sketchbook lying open on her lap. He couldn't help but smile when her nose would scrunch up occasionally, her chest rising and falling to a slow rhythm. Though he didn't like the idea of how her back would feel in the morning from sleeping on the couch, he didn't want to overstep his boundaries and freak her out by carrying her to her room. So he opted for grabbing a knitted blanket from the linen closet. He set the sketchbook aside before softly covering her with the blanket, tucking it under her chin. As he moved to retire to his room, he paused when he happened to glance at the sketchbook he had left lying on the coffee table. The page that it was currently left open on was a pencil sketch of an angel's back, with large wings dripping with blood protruding from its shoulder blades. The blond was a tad shocked at how good the sketch was and wondered what her work would be like if she properly executed it. Jace had no idea that she was talented at art. He had seen her with the sketchbook in her hand on multiple occasions but had passed it off as a mere pass time. Making a mental note to ask her about it later, he threw one more glance behind his back at Clary before making his way to his room.

A/N: I'm so sorry last time I updated it that weird coding stuff showed up but I think I fixed it. Thanks for letting me know!
