"I'll go get dinner started for you..." Lily said excusing herself.
A dumbstruck Sirius could only stare at the boy in front of him. Was this really the same boy? No, it couldn't be...

Chapter 14: To Trust Or Not To Trust

"Harry...you know I'm on your side right?" Sirius asked.

"You abandoned me just like everyone else!" Harry spat.

"No Harry, remnus and I never did. Don't lump me in with your idiot fath- er, with that idiot James! Dumbledore wanted it to seem that way, so he made us forget about you. Lily couldn't bear the guilt and did everything she could to allow us to remember you. Pup, i would never forget you, I'd die first..." Sirius said as tears swelled in his eyes.

Harry must have suffered so much. The only two people who ever truly cared about him as a child had abandoned him, and he had not a single clue as to why. It must have been so lonely for him...

"As much as I hate them, I owe the malfoys a debt of gratitude. They were able to keep you safe and happy. That's all I care about." Sirius said with a small smile as he wiped the tears away before they could fall.

He tried to go in for another hug but was swiftly swept from his footing. An angry eleven year old glaring down at him. With a sigh Sirius gave up trying.

"Do you want to know what happened after you went missing, and after your announcement?" Sirius asked hoping to clear the air with his godson.

"How do I know you won't just lie and tell me what I want to hear? Your a Gryffindor black, how can I trust a thing that comes from your mouth?" Harry spat.

"Your a Gryffindor too cub." Sirius said sadly.

"By blood maybe, but I'm a Slytherin through and through. I've proved that enough haven't I?" Harry glared.

"Yes I suppose your right." Sirius sighed.

"I Sirius black swear on my magic that I will tell one Hadrian Malfoy nothing but the honest truth As I retell the events of his disappearance and announcement, so mote it be."

"Very well then. I will hear you out." Harry said with a calculating gaze.

Sirius got shivers as Harry did so. He was so much like Malfoy. Had Sirius just not realized until now? No it's wasn't that. Sirius didn't want to realize that fact. But that wasn't what mattered now. He promised to explain what happened and Harry deserved to know.

"You still in there black?" Harry asked impatiently.

"Y-yes. Sorry, was a little lost in thought. But before I start, why do you call me black?" Sirius asked.

"That is your name isn't it?" Harry asked.

"I suppose..." Sirius said sadly.

Harry inwardly groaned. He knew what the man wanted to be called by Harry. He'd get answers faster if he just did it.

"Please continue then...uncle padfoot." Harry said the last part quietly.

Sirius perked up in an instant upon hearing his beloved godson use his nickname. 'Maybe this is my Harry...just less lonely' he thought happily. Sirius nodded and started to explain.

"After you left, James was furious. He blamed lily for not letting him perform the transfer of your magic the night you left like he had wanted to. I'm not sure if you saw the conversation-" Sirius was cut off.

"I did." Harry growled.

"The whole conversation Harry?" He asked.

"Well no, but I saw enough." Harry mumbled.

"Lily was trying to convince James not to take your magic, but she couldn't. So she told him what he wanted to hear panning to sneak away with you before morning." He continued.

Haru didn't know if he should believe what he was hearing. He asked Sirius to perform a simple charm to verify. The man did, levitating a small cup with his wand. Harry nodded. The man still had his magic so he hadn't lied. Though that I eased Harry slightly.

"However when it was discovered you had run off, Lily was devastated. James had forced her to put all her love and attention with Ethan, even enforcing it with potions if she decided to disobey what James wanted. Remus and I noticed and said something. That's when Dumbledore wipes out memory of you clear and replaced them with the false accusation that you were trying to kill your brother and had to be locked away." The man grimaced pausing for a moment to let everything sink in.

"Lily had to keep playing her part in order to find you without James' interference so she did as he asked of her. Once they found out you were alive and well, Lily starting plotting her reunion. Then your announcement came..." Sirius said sadly.

"Dear 'parents' if you should be called them. Your son hates you and wants nothing from you but for you to leave him alone. You were too busy with my little brother and his false fame that you drove the true saviour away from you forever. From this day fourth I am no longer a potter." Harry recited. "I remember."

"Lily blamed names and left the house. She refused to talk to both James and Ethan. Ethan threw a tantrum saying it had to be lies, Dumbledore looked into it, found it wasn't a lie and hames threw a fit lily had left him." Sirius laughed.

"Bastard deserved it too!" Sirius added seriously.

"After lily left she wanted to contact you, but you didn't want anything to do with her, so she turned to remnus and I. We of course welcomed her, until we found out the real reason she was there since she had initially lied to us. So she set her plan in motion. First she fixed the memory problem then filled us in." Sirius paused.

Harry was still skeptically and asked Sirius to do a charm again. He complied did said charm and waited for Harry's response.
Harry nodded for him to continue.

"They announced assistant teachers this year and remnus and lily jumped on it, knowing you'd be here."

"How did they know I'd be here?" Harry asked.

"Lily said the Malfoy wouldn't send you anywhere else, but in truth I think she actually overheard it from James." Sirius replied.

"What was the plan?" Harry asked cautiously.

"To protect you even if you hated us." Sirius said honestly.

Harry was taken aback.

"Why!? Why would you protect your enemy!? Are you stupid!?" Harry yelled.

"No, even if you are our enemy your family." Lily said as she brought dinner out.

Draco who had been uncharacteristically quiet until now finally spoke.

"Well Sirius still has his magic" he paused watching as Sirius levitated some of the plates for lily "so he must not be lying..." the blonde chirped.

"Fine. We trust them. For now..."
