Saphir hated days like this.
A huge storm had blown through the streets of Paris, forcing their community to remain underground due to the harsh winds, cold rains, loud thunder and bright lightning.
Night had fallen, and the twins were sitting in their tent, listening to the thunder rumble up above, a single lit candle in between them.
It was very late, and really, the pair should have been asleep, but with all the sounds outside, Saphir knew sleep wouldn't come to him easily.
And of course, Esmerelda knew this as well.
Saphir glanced over at her as she grabbed his wrist, pulling him closer.
"I want to try something." She whispered, moving her hands to block the light coming from the candle, fingers moving to create different shapes. "Guess what it is."
"Ummm…" Saphir tilted his head to the side, "… cat?"
"Yeah! You try one now!"
"Okay!" Saphir thought to himself for a moment, before placing his hands into the light, making a bird, giggling as he made it flap its' wings.
And then Esme made her cat shadow, acting like it was eating Saphir's bird.
"Esme!" Narrowly dodging knocking the candle over, Saphir dived at his twin, pinning her to the ground and sitting on her waist, fingers scrabbling over her stomach as she tried to grab his hands
"No! Nononononono!" She shrieked, wincing as she heard the grumbling from nearby tents, "Stop!" Thankfully, she managed to grab his hands, rolling them over and pinning him to the ground, "I said stop!"
Saphir just giggled up at him, eyes falling shut as Esme ran her fingers through his hair, humming lightly at the sensation. Sensing that her brother was falling asleep, Esme blew the candle out, cuddling close to him, even as the storm continued all around them.
Cuddling Saphir closer, Esme sighed happily, closing her own eyes and allowing herself to fall into an easy slumber alongside him.
