One last time

While his daughter was finishing preparing herself, Joslyn, dowager king of Nova and duke of Caloris, felt his fear grow stronger with every second passing by. Togami, king consort of Shanjia, had launched his fleet against their country and his daughter had chosen to fight it on the sea, leading the troops herself. He prayed the Heavens to spare his baby girl. Elodie was all he had left. His wife had died and ever since, he had kept the throne for his child, until she became of age, so she could rule as the rightful queen. If they'd take his daughter away from him, he knew he would not survive this blow. Elodie had surprised him ever since she returned from her boarding school. Polite, sharp, intelligent, knowledgable, a true diplomat... She was working hard. But against this former bard, known for being a powerful Lumen, his dear daughter's efforts could simply be not enough yet.

"Elodie?" He called her softly

"Yes, Father?" She replied

He tenderly hugged her, feeling her surprise and lack of undrestading.

"I love you."

She had to know he did. No matter the result of this war, she had to know he did. He loved her beyond everything.

The fact that she hugged him back, with all of her strength, betraying her own fear to see Nova fall, to die, but also that this embrace eased her, confirmed him she had never forgotten he did.

The End
