Part Five: Linger
Bonnie Bennett looked around at the room that she would now inhabit. It had been almost a week. All her things were finally unpacked and yet she still felt as if she were invading someone else's space rather than creating a place of her own. Bonnie turned slightly at the sound of a knock on her door and watched as Emily walked in a moment later.
"Thanks again for doing this," Bonnie said, as Emily walked across the room, "I know that you don't have to help me with all of this."
Emily shrugged noncommittally. "It's nothing really," she said. She held out the book that she had in her hand. "These are a few spells that I would like you to try," Emily told her, "They are powerful but they'll prepare you for the power you have access to now. They take a lot of control and concentration. When you figure these out then you will be well on your way to control and managing the power that you now have access to."
Bonnie walked over to her taking the book from her hand. "Thanks," she sighed, "I guess I should learn some control if I am going to be going around violently assaulting people who I used to be friends with."
Emily grinned, and walked pass her to sit down on the edge of Bonnie's bed. "I told you I'll take care of that," she said, "I'm more worried about you casting the spell that will require the apple that Klaus gave you."
Bonnie raised an eyebrow at her. "The apple?" Bonnie asked, "I thought it was just an enchanted paper weight or something. I mean I felt the power from it but I didn't think to ask….What is it?"
"The key to immortality," Emily told her, "For a witch. Without the problematic issues that things like vampirism cause. There are all kinds of legends about it. From Greek mythology to Norse, of all the different legends immortality has always been the common theme. It's very valuable and coveted. Definitely not something to be taken lightly."
Bonnie frowned. She didn't understand. If Klaus had something that valuable, why would he give it to her as if it was nothing? "Why would he give me something like that?" Bonnie asked, her thoughts slipping out of her mouth, "I don't get it. I mean why not use it for himself or his siblings. Or keep it hidden somewhere?"
"He obviously wants to make sure that you're with him as long as possible," Emily shrugged, "And he probably wanted to display for you. Show you what his influence and power gives him access to. All wolves do it at some time or another."
"I don't know if I want to live forever," Bonnie said, "I don't even know what I want to do tomorrow."
"You don't have to make a choice now," Emily said, "There are other spells you could use. The one I cast is designed to stop my aging and to allow me to live as long as at least one of my mates is alive. Klaus probably went the route of the apple because it's the most powerful means and since there isn't a way he can be killed any longer, he likely wanted the same assurance for you." Emily noted the way that Bonnie winced at the word mate. "This isn't just about the apple is it?" Emily asked.
Bonnie sighed and shook her head. She didn't know if she wanted to go into it with anyone. But she didn't have that many people to confide in that would be impartial outside of Matt and he would not entirely understand. Bonnie had a feeling that Emily would, however.
"For him to give me something like this," Bonnie said, softly, "For him to say that he wants me with him in such a real and honest way…it scares me. This mate thing isn't something that any of us wanted. It was an accident. And so far we've been treating it like it's just something we have to deal with, something that we just happen to get some measure of physical gratification from. But this…this isn't something that he would do if he didn't really care about me."
Emily raised a brow at her. "Would you rather he didn't care?" She asked.
Bonnie nodded. "Honestly," she said, "Yes. I would. I don't want feelings involved in this. I…I'm tired of caring about people and getting nothing back. And if I let myself care about Klaus or Tyler or both outside of this animal urge I have to claim them then something bad will happen. Something bad always happens. They'll leave me. Or get tired of me. Or find someone better. It doesn't matter. I'll lose them. Like I lost Grams. Or they'll just stop caring like Elena and the others. Or they'll just walk away like my mom. Or just treat me like a burden like my dad. I…I just like things how they were. It was simpler."
"I hate to tell you this but things never really were the way they were," Emily said, "Mating between wolves is serious and the blood sharing made it that much more so between the three of you. It's different for me being bound to vampires but essentially I can give you some insight. The bond is only going to grow with time. Wolves mate for life, they exist for the mates that they choose. Feelings are unavoidable. But you don't have to worry about them leaving you either."
Bonnie nodded. She didn't know how she felt about the information that she was being given. She had been avoiding them since her birthday and Emily's words explained the increasing toll it was taking on her. She missed them, and it had very little to do with the fact that the wolf side of her was calmer when they were around. She missed them for the sake of missing them as well as for her wolf's sake and that was a problem. "I think I need a drink," she said.
Emily grinned. "I'm up for it if you are," she said, "Let's go."
:::
The Grill was crowded and ordinarily the smells and the sounds would be upsetting to Bonnie given her newly heightened senses but she didn't mind them as they distracted her and drowned out her thoughts. Apparently the crowd was due to live music and she and Emily weren't the only ones who had showed up in time to see the band perform. Matt was behind the bar so it was easy for both she and Emily to get drinks right away and somehow as they moved to find a table, they ended up being corned by Aidan and of all people Kol.
Aidan seemed to there in hopes of enjoying their company, but Bonnie was pretty sure that Kol was there under Klaus' behest. Since had gone back to avoiding both him and Tyler and they had both called multiple times to see if Bonnie had moved into Emily's alright and all of those calls had gone unanswered. Surprisingly enough neither of them had come to see her, more than likely because even with the urge they probably had to do so, they probably also knew that she wanted them to stay away, at least for now.
Bonnie's suspicions about Kol were confirmed as Kol began to question her the moment that they sat down in a booth in the back of the diner. "How did the move in go?" Kol asked, as he sat down next to her.
Bonnie rolled her eyes. "Are you asking because you care or because Klaus and Tyler do?" Bonnie asked before she took a sip of the beer that she had procured from the bar.
If Bonnie was hoping for a reaction from Kol due to the fact that he had gotten caught, there was not. He looked at her unfazed as he drummed his fingers on the table and shrugged. "A little of both I suppose," he said, "Mostly I'm just curious as to when you and Emily are going to invite me over for a slumber party."
Emily laughed as she took a sip of her own drink. "If we were going to start handing out invitations to the people at this table we'd start with Aidan," she said.
"Can I hold you to that?" Aidan asked laughing.
Emily was about to answer when she felt a sudden pull that could only mean one thing. Sighing her eyes roamed over her surroundings, but she couldn't see them yet even though she could feel them.
"Emily?" Bonnie asked, noting her sudden change in demeanor, "What's wrong?"
Emily shook her head and forced a smile. "Nothing important," she said, "I'm going to go get another drink."
Bonnie was about to comment on the fact that the drink in front of her was already mostly full but stopped when she realized the real reason the Emily was leaving the table. She watched with interest as the Salvatore brothers entered the restaurant. Emily stood and made her way over to the bar and Bonnie knew that it wasn't a coincidence that she was heading in their direction at the same time.
Bonnie wondered if the pull that Emily had was anything like the one she had toward Klaus and Tyler. Emily said that their bonds were slightly different, that Bonnie's was stronger. However, it seemed as if the pull was something that could not be denied even so.
Bonnie frowned as noticed both Elena and Caroline were with Stefan and Damon. This ought to be interesting, she thought.
However, her thoughts took a darker turn as she realized that while Elena was hanging on Stefan's arm, apparently having decided he was worth paying attention to at the moment, and Damon ordering drinks at the bar, Caroline was making a beeline toward Bonnie.
Bonnie sighed, she was tired of being the target. She almost wished that a new problem would arise for them so that they would leave her alone like they normally did in times imminent danger.
"I can kill her if you want," Kol offered as he noted Bonnie's dark look,
"And I can hide the body," Aidan chimed in as he lifted his bottle to Bonnie in salute.
Bonnie grinned but shook her head. "I think I'm just going to go home," she sighed, "I'm not really up for this and everyone I don't want to be around is popping up here tonight."
Just as the sentence left her mouth, Caroline came to a stop at her table. "Hello Bonnie," the blonde said stiffly.
Bonnie shared a look with Aidan and Kol before standing. "I'll see you guys later," Bonnie said, as she moved to walk around Caroline.
"Bonnie wait," Caroline pled. Caroline grabbed her arm as she passed and Bonnie gritted her teeth. She turned to face Caroline slowly, and Caroline regretted her choice to talk to her. She hadn't planned on it after what had happened first with Tyler and then the incident at Bonnie's party. But Stefan had advised her not to give up on the friendship and so she had decided to take his advice.
"What do you want Caroline?" Bonnie said, sounding tired, though her eyes were still lethal.
"I just wanted to say that I don't have any hard feelings about what happened at the party," Caroline said, forcing a smile, "I know that you're not yourself right now and that you didn't mean it. That deep down inside your sorry."
"That's funny," Bonnie said, "Because I am myself right now. More of myself than I have ever been. If I'm not who you want me to be or who you thought I was then that's not really my problem. I did mean it and I mean it when I say I want to be left alone. I'm not sorry. And deep down inside all I have is the urge to do it again. So if there isn't anything else I suggest you get out of my way."
Caroline huffed shaking her head. "I'm really trying here, Bonnie," she said, "Stefan told me to be there for you. To try and be understand because you're going through a rough time. To be happy for you and Tyler because I still care about you both. And I'm trying to do that but you are making that really hard for me."
"Who care if Stefan asked you to try because I sure as hell didn't." Bonnie sighed, "It's funny how everyone is asking everyone else about how they should deal with me when I've already given the answer. Stay out of my way and I will stay out of yours. It's that simple. Also a word of advice about Saint Stefan. I wouldn't get too attached to him if I were you. He's spoken for and you're only going to get hurt if your feelings for him start to go beyond friendship."
"What?" Caroline said, rolling her eyes, "Are you going to steal him from me like you did Tyler?"
"First of all I didn't steal Tyler from you," Bonnie said, "And second whether you like it or not he's mine now and so is Klaus. Get over it, they're over you and they're both very happy I might add. Third, Stefan was never yours. He was never Elena's or anyone else's save for one person. Same goes for Damon so you might want to warn Elena too. They both belong to the same person and she has the same lethal temper and low patience for bullshit as me. What she doesn't have is any reason to stop herself from killing you like I do. Because please believe me when I say the fact that I once gave a damn about you and the fact that Tyler still considers you a friend are the only reasons I haven't killed you yet. I'm just warning you while you can still save face, the Salvatore have ties that can't be broken. Not by you or anyone else. You can listen to me or not I don't care."
Bonnie turned to leave and Caroline watched her go, not at all surprised when her former friend didn't bother to even look back.
:::
Tyler Lockwood shook his head as he watched Niklaus Mikaelson clean off the paint brush in his hand. Neither of them had seen Bonnie in days, and so they had been spending most of their days together. It was easier for them that way. It appeared their connection was growing as well so being apart from her wasn't as painful when they were together. However, they could tell Bonnie was upset about something so it didn't erase the discomfort entirely.
"Everything you paint is depressing," Tyler said, "Aside from Caroline and her pony. Why are you so scared of color?"
Klaus turned to him and gave him a look. "Fear doesn't factor into creating art for true artist," Klaus told him, "I'm not afraid of color I just don't believe in the overuse of it. This isn't the same thing as your cartoons and monsters. There doesn't need to be bring attention drawing colors."
Tyler rolled his eyes. "I do draw other things you know," he said, "Just because I like to work with fantastical elements as you so eloquently put it when you butchered my drawings earlier today, doesn't mean that I don't have a good eye and know what I am talking about."
Klaus tossed the paint brush in his hand in the jar that stood next to his easy. "No one butchered you art or belittled it," he said, "I simply said you should try a wider range of subjects. And yes, you do have a good eye which is why I suggested it."
"Okay fine," Tyler said, looking over the abstract mess of black white and gray that Klaus had painted, "But that still needs more color."
"Perhaps you need some color," Klaus said, picking up a fresh brush, "Take off your shirt hound, show me my canvas."
Tyler blinked at him, but took a step away from him. "You want to paint a picture of me fine," he said, "But you're not actually going put paint on me."
"You let me paint you with cake," Klaus reminded.
Tyler scratched the back of his neck and looked away. "That was different," he said, "Bonnie was there. She stops avoiding us and you buy some edible body paint then we can talk. Until then if you want to paint me then that's fine."
"Nude?" Klaus asked, raising an eyebrow.
Tyler gave him a look, though the idea wasn't as revolting to him as it probably should have been. "That's a disturbing visual," he said.
"Initially," Klaus nodded, "Yes. But not so bad one you give it some thought. Admit it. You're considering it even now."
Tyler was about to deny it but his mouth shut as he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. Pulling it out of his jeans and looking at the screen he smiled when he saw the name flashing there. "It's Bonnie," he said, looking up at Klaus.
"Well answer it," Klaus pressed. They hadn't heard from her in so long that he wasn't sure that she would call them back were Tyler to fail to answer.
Tyler nodded and answered the phone. "Hey pup," he said as he turned slightly away from Klaus as he waited for Bonnie to respond, "How are you?"
"Hey," Bonnie said, softly. She paused but he had heard the smile in her voice, so he was patient as he waited for her to continue. "I'm okay. Emily is being really cool so…I need to talk to you about something. Could you come over?"
"Yeah of course," Tyler said quickly.
He could hear Bonnie clearing her throat. "I just need to talk to you though," she said, "So if Klaus is with you. Just make sure he stays away at least for now."
Tyler frowned and glanced back at Klaus. He had clearly been listening in on the conversation, from the hurt look on his face. Still he nodded for Tyler to agree. Tyler nodded in return. "That's fine," he said, into the phone, "I'll leave right now."
"Thanks," Bonnie said, "I'll see you soon."
The line disconnected before Tyler could answer her. He stuffed the phone in his pocket and turned back to Klaus more fully. He sighed as he studied Klaus' deflated form. "I'm sure that Bonnie doesn't mean anything by it," he said, "It's probably not you."
"If she doesn't want me involved then it's about me," Klaus said, "Go. Don't worry about me. I'm just glad that she reaching out to one of us. Take care of her."
"You know I will," Tyler said. He turned to leave but stopped himself as he turned back to Klaus. "I'll be back later." Never in a million would he have ever thought that he would be comforting Klaus, after everything he had gone through because of him. But thanks to Bonnie they had reached an understanding of sorts and Tyler was sure that in some warped way Klaus actually cared about them both.
Tyler froze as Klaus suddenly hugged him. He didn't return the embrace but he didn't push him away either. "I meant what I said," he said, into Tyler's ear. "I know what you're trying to do but I would rather you stay with her as long as she needs you. I'm very used to be alone." The last was said not in search of sympathy but as a fact.
"Well you are stuck with us forever," Tyler said as Klaus pulled away from him, "And so even if she does avoid you for a while we'll be more than able to make up for it."
Tyler felt gratified as Klaus smiled. "Let's hope so," he said, "Now go."
Tyler moved to leave, watching Klaus out of the corner of his eyes as he did so. He smiled as Klaus dipped his paint brush in red and brushed it across the canvas that he had been working on. Red wasn't Tyler's favorite color but it was a start.
:::
Damon Salvatore had just sat down at the bar when he began to feel a pull, as if there was something that was tugging at the center of his chest. He looked around trying to find the source of t, almost fearing that it was a warning before Bonnie struck against him again. However, there was no sign with the witch.
He felt a small hand on his shoulder and turned to face Elena. She looked at him worriedly and while ordinarily he would have gotten some since of satisfaction from it, the act of her being close to him felt wrong. Stefan hovered just behind her and he didn't even seem to notice that Elena was taking Damon's face in her hands. Stefan's eyes were roaming around as if he felt the same pull and was looking for the source of it as well.
"Are you alright?" Elena asked, her thumb stroking Damon's cheek.
"I'm fine," Damon muttered, pushing her hands away in a rougher manner than he had meant to. But something was telling him that she was supposed to touch. No, that she wasn't allowed to touch him. That no one was allowed to touch him save for one person. What he couldn't tell was who that person was.
Elena frowned at him but Damon ignored him as he suddenly heard a familiar voice ordering a whiskey sour. He turned slightly and the first thing that came into his vision was long dark hair. He sniffed the air and smelled the familiar scent of lavender.
The bartender came back quickly with the drink and the voice he knew well spoke again. "Thank you," she said. "How much do I owe you?"
"Don't worry about it," the bartender told her, "Donovan's got you covered tonight."
Damon watched as Emily Bennett turned toward him, looking past him where Matt Donovan who was sitting at the other end of the bar. "Thanks Matty," she called waving.
Matt looked at Damon's expression with amusement before turning toward Emily. "Anything for you, Em," he called back as Rebekah walked into The Grill and made her way over to him.
Damon watched, his shock giving way to anger as Emily blew a kiss in Matt's direction. "Emily?" Damon said, "Is that you?"
Emily's brown eyes found his blue ones and she looked as if she had noticed him for the first time. "Oh," she said calmly, "Hello Damon."
Damon blinked at her. "What the hell?" he spat, "You're alive? Why didn't you tell me? Where the hell have you been all this time? And how do you know Donovan?"
Emily crossed her legs and sipped her drink slowly, taking her time before he answered him. "Well I didn't think that my being alive would be of any consequence to you since up until a few years ago your whole existence was devoted to finding Katherine. Besides I thought I should punish you for the shitty job you did watching over my line."
"I tried to save you," Damon said, "And you are the one who broke the deal."
"You broke it first," Emily said, "By the time I possessed Bonnie it was null and void. And speaking of Bonnie I need you leave her alone."
"And why would I do that?" Damon asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Because I'm asking you nice," Emily said, "And because I'm the only reason she hasn't killed you and your brother yet." She glanced over at Stefan smiled. "Hello Stefan," she said.
Stefan had seemed to be frozen until she spoke to him. He pulled forward, pushing past Elena, forgetting that she was there. "Emily?" he said, still unable to believe what he was seeing. When she nodded he reached out a hand to her but she shook her head. "I've missed you," he said.
"I'm sure you have," Emily said, and then, "I'm disappointed in how you're handling this situation with Bonnie. It would be different if you were actually concerned about her but its clear you have other motives. I've decided to intervene. She's my family so I'm going to help her through whatever it is she's going through. She just wants to be left alone and since she isn't aiming to target you unless you target her then I think you should give her that."
Stefan nodded, agreeing immediately. "Alright," he said, "We'll step aside. I trust you."
Emily grinned. "Just when I thought I was wrong about that heart of yours," she said, reaching up and touching his face.
Elena cleared her throat, and Emily rolled her eyes taking another sip of her drink. "We can't just step aside," Elena said, "Bonnie almost killed us at her party. Besides she's my best friend."
Emily laughed. "Really?" she asked, "Funny she never mentioned that since she moved in with me. Do you even know where she's living now or why she moved out of her parents' house? I mean you're best friends so she would've told you right?"
Elena scowled and opened her mouth lash out but Damon silenced her with a look. "Elena go find Caroline," he said, his tone dismissive.
"But-" Elena objected. Stefan gave her a look and sighing, Elena walked away.
Emily watched the girl walk away with a shake of her head. "You have her trained well," she commented. She didn't know what it would be like to see them after all this time but it wasn't as painful as she had assumed. They were still drawn to her. She still had pull over them. If she wanted them she could have them. But right now, they had they still had some work to do before she told them the truth about her connection to them. Until then seeing them would be enough.
"We'll leave witchy alone," Damon said, "Just tell us where you have been? How you're still alive?"
"First tell me why you care," Emily said, "Because outside of asking me for help from what you thought was the other side I doubt that either of you have spared me a single thought."
Stefan frowned. "You know that's not true," he said, "And you wouldn't have helped us if you didn't give a damn. So how about we go somewhere and talk. You said Bonnie moved in with you so you're probably staying in town right?"
Emily looked over Stefan shoulder just as Elijah walked in and nodded in her direction. "Later," she said, "You two should probably go and tend to your girlfriend. She's looking pretty upset. Then again so does her friend."
Both Stefan and Damon turned to see Caroline and Elena watching the scene with interest, neither of them looking too please.
Stefan sighed as he turned back to Emily and found that she was standing. "Emily," he tried, "Just wait."
"When I'm ready to talk I'll find you," Emily said, "In the meantime let me handle Bonnie."
They watched as she walked away leaving her drink behind. They both frowned as she walked straight toward Elijah Mikaelson. As she hugged him Damon moved forward but Stefan grabbed his shoulder stopping him. They watched silently as Emily took Elijah's hand and they made their way toward the exit.
:::
Bonnie smiled as she opened the door to Tyler. In spite of her mixed feelings about everything she was happy to see him. She moved to the side and allowed him to enter. As she closed the door behind him, Bonnie felt his arms wrap around her from behind.
"Hey," Bonnie whispered, leaning back into his arms.
"Hey, pup," Tyler answered, resting his chin on the top of her head. Her hands rested on the top of his arms a moment before she gently removed them. "I guess this call doesn't mean you're done avoiding us then?" He asked
Bonnie sighed as she headed toward the living room. "Not exactly," she said, "I'm not avoiding you anymore but I wanted to talk to you alone. So I asked you to come."
Tyler followed her and sat down next to her on the couch as she sat down, folding her legs underneath her. "I'm starting to think that Klaus actually care about us," Bonnie said, "And I am in no way at all equipped to deal with that. After everything he's done to me, to you, to the people we used to care about, it just doesn't seem smart to let him in. Then there's also the fact that every time I care about someone it ends badly."
Tyler nodded. "I understand that," he said, "Believe me I do. But I'm starting to think that this bond is going to be good for all of us. Klaus already seems more human, your liberated, and for once neither one of us is one the outside and alienated from things. I've never told anyone this but the reason I invested so much in Caroline is because I didn't feel like I mattered to anyone else outside of that, like anyone could see any good in me other than her. I think she used that against me a lot. The same way that Jeremy and Elena used your loyalty against you. But this bond is different. We need each other. All of us. It's permanent so none us will ever be left again. And we all care about each other, all of us. Even if you won't say it and he won't say it. I thought it would be weird but really whenever I am with you or Klaus or we're all together I just feel like I finally fit somewhere."
"It's that with all of this history and crap between us," Bonnie sighed, "It doesn't make sense to me that we could actually work."
"It doesn't have to make sense pup," he said, "It just has to work. And it works. We work. This…you and Klaus….is probably the most stable relationship I've ever had even if it is the most twisted. And you should know that when you called me he didn't care that it was mean not him. He didn't throw a tantrum or get jealous. He just told me to take care of you. To make sure that you were okay. Believe me…before all this I would have been scared as hell to actually matter to someone like Klaus because he doesn't have the greatest track record with even the people he claims to care about but right now it's not so bad. And if it gets bad in the future then me and you can always run away together. Deal?"
"Deal," Bonnie smiled. While she still wasn't completely at ease with the situation she still felt better about it. She leaned forward and kissed Tyler on the lips, smiling wider as she pulled back. "I really missed you," she said, and then, "I'm going to call Klaus. Do you want to watch a movie."
"You mean actually hang out and do something normal?" Tyler asked. Bonnie nodded, and he grinned. "Sure I'm game." Bonnie stood to go search for her phone and a sudden thought caused Tyler to call after her. "While you're talking to stray if he mentions something about edible body paint it wasn't my idea," he said. He was surprised when instead of a snide remark he was met with laughter. Perhaps she really had missed him after all.
:::
Elijah studied Emily as they sat outside of the manor on the steps looking up at the night sky. Emily had always loved the night, the stars. It usually lifted her mood and called to the senses of the wolf but tonight she just seemed to be tired.
"What was it like seeing them again?" Elijah asked.
Emily shrugged. "Not as bad as I thought it would be," Emily said, "But it was hard to know that they weren't the people I had hoped they would become. I didn't expect much from Damon…but Stefan. I guess it doesn't matter."
Elijah knew that it did matter, but he also knew with her temper it was best not to push things once she dropped them. "And what about seeing Elena?"
Emily turned to raise an eyebrow at him. "You mean was I jealous?" she asked.
Elijah nodded, and was surprised when Emily shook her head. He knew how possessive his brother, Bonnie, and the Lockwood boy were of each other and he knew that their bonds were similar in nature. He had thought some of that possessiveness would show through in Emily but she seemed calm.
"She isn't a threat to me," Emily said, "I can read them like the back of my hand. They care about her. Stefan might even love her, but neither one of them are in love with her. Stefan sees her as an obligation and Damon a prize to be won. But even if they did love her in that way it wouldn't matter. I could have them, the bond would see to that. My issues with them have nothing to do with Miss Gilbert and everything to do with the fact that I love them and they are not worthy of me. Have you ever had that problem?"
Elijah smiled. "A time or two," he said, "But you know that already. I have also had the problem of loving someone that I am not worthy of. And then there was a time when I fell in love with my equal but they could not love me in return, for reasons that were of no fault of their own." Elijah glanced at her at the last statement, but though she swallowed and looked away from him, she didn't say anything. "What will you do now?" He asked, "About Stefan and Damon?"
She shrugged. "Wait," she said, "Until I can find something in them that will make it okay to feel the way that I do about them for me again. Being close to them will be enough for the bond in the meantime. And while I wait, I will spend my nights looking at the stars with my old friend."
Elijah looked up at the night sky again. "This might sound selfish," he said, "But I hope that your wait is a long one. I rather enjoy spending my nights with you."
:::
Klaus knocked on the door to the apartment that Bonnie was now sharing with Emily. He had been surprised when she had called him. In truth he hadn't expected it after she had asked Tyler to exclude him when she had called.
It hadn't really surprised him as he was used to being abandon, but it seemed like that hadn't been the case. The opening of the door drew his attention and he smiled as he saw Bonnie on the other side. "Hey," Bonnie said, "Come in."
Klaus walked over the threshold and Bonnie closed the door behind him. He could hear sounds coming from the kitchen and he knew right away that it was Tyler. He could feel him, in almost the same manner that he could feel Bonnie now.
"Tyler said you were worried," Bonnie said, drawing his attention, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you worried. I just…needed some time after what happened with Abby and my dad. Then Emily told me about the apple and I kind of freaked out a little."
Klaus sighed. "I thought that it might be too much but I wanted to get my message across," he said.
"I thought it was too much at first but I changed my mind," she said, "I get it now. What it means and why you did it. You want me and Tyler with you for as long as possible. And I'm okay with that because I kind of figured out that I want the two of you with me for as long as possible to."
"I could've told you that," Klaus smirked.
"I did tell her that," Tyler said, as he appeared from the kitchen. Bonnie gave him a look and he laughed. "Come on and let's start this movie before she changes her mind and kicks us out."
Bonnie held out her hand to him and Klaus took it, happy to oblige.
