Flames of Summoning

Ch3

Stifling a yawn behind her hand, Tsuna stares at the white board in disinterest. Math has never been one of her best subject but as long as she is passing then its fine. The idea that they even need to take a math class in a school of magic is a bit off putting. She just wishes it could be more interesting, as the class seems to have the magic power to put her to sleep. In what only seems to be moments the teacher raises his voice and shouts out, "dismissed."

Snapping up straight, Tsuna looks around in surprise and realizes she must have dozed off. Though, she notices that many of her classmates seem to be in the same predicament. Picking up her books and pens, Tsuna hurriedly shoves them into her bag and stands up to make her way out of the classroom. Slipping by her classmates, she exits the room and walks out into the hallway. She pulls on the strap of her bag and makes a face at how heavy it is. Unfortunately, because of the supplemental summons class that will be starting in ten minutes, Tsuna doesn't have the time to go home and drop off the dead wieght. Which means she'll just have to take it with her.

Mind wondering to the magic cycle design she will be using, Tsuna doesn't notice the other young woman, with her nose stuck in a book, walking towards her until the two collide. Falling back onto her behind, she whines in pain and takes notice of what she has bumped into. Looking into the intense glare that is directed at her, Tsuna wishes she was anywhere but here.

Hana Kurokawa, stands up and dusts herself off. She makes a clicking sound with her mouth as she stares down at Tsuna, before turning on her heels and walking away.

'So dramatic,' Tsuna thinks as she picks herself off the ground.

Standing up she notices the unfamiliar book on the ground and let's out a sign as she realizes it must be Hana's. For a moment she stares at the book before grabbing it and standing up. Returning the book is out of the question and she doesn't have the time to take it to the lost and found box. Stuffing the book into her bag, Tsuna makes her way to the classroom where summoning class is taking place.

Entering the classroom, Tsuna sees that the room is packed with first years. With how many bodies have crammed themselves into the room, the room is hot and suffocating. She had known that enough students had failed to summon a creature to the point that the professors are greatly concerned but she hadn't known it was this many. Shoving her way inside, she makes her way to the open windows which allow a bit of a breeze.

Leaning against the windowsill, Tsuna thinks to herself, 'there's no way there is enough room to hold a summoning lesson in here.'

Her eyes wander over the students in the class and she notices Yamamoto happily talking to several other boys. 'That guy is as popular as ever,' she thinks, 'Really, I don't understand why he feels so pressured to get a high level creature right away. Isn't he the type of guy that would want to stay with his friends and teammates for as long as possible? Wouldn't he miss all of his friends?'

As she stares, Yamamoto head starts to turn in her direction and Tsuna quickly turns away not wanting to be caught starring. But as she looks away she catches the eyes of the last person she wants to see. Brownish-orange eyes glare at Tsuna for a moment and then the expression changes, the glare disappears and in it's place is warm eyes with a gentle smile. Kyoko lifts her hand and waves to Tsuna and she awkwardly returns the gesture.

It's then that professor Saki enters the room causing all the students to look to her. Beside the professor are two teachers wearing identical looks of disinterest.

"I'm happy to see so many of you could attend the first supplementary summoning class of the year!" Professor Saki excitedly calls out, her expression the complete opposite of the two other adults next to her. "As you can see, quite a few of you are here to summon your first creature. So many in fact that there isn't enough room to hold all of you in a normal classroom. As such half of you will be going to summoning hall B with professor Yi and the rest to summoning hall C with professor Watanabe. Now listen up as I call out your name and which hall you'll be in."

The next few minutes pass quickly and soon two groups of students leave the classroom. Tsuna is happy that neither Yamamoto and Kyoko are in her group. Entering the summoning hall, she along with many of the other students stare in awe at the size of the room and the wards, sealing circles covering the walls . Normally students wouldn't be using a summoning hall until their last year. As these rooms have been designed for students to try to summon higher level creatures.

Moving away from the other students, Tsuna finds a place in the back of the room and begins to draw up her magic circle. Taking out the outline of the magic circle she will be using, she sets aside her book bag. The hall is suddenly filled with the scratching sound of students drawing their summoning circles on the floor. A few whispers can be heard as students ask each other questions and the gruff voice of professor scolding at what others are doing wrong.

Finishing her circle, Tsuna stands up. Lifting her arm to get the attention of the professor. After the professor has come over, to take a look at her summoning circle and the outline she is using, with professor Saki signature giving Tsuna permission to use it, she gets permission to begin. The room is filled with magic causing her skin to tingle and Tsuna can hear the excited squeals of joy as some students are successful with their summoning.

'Thats great!' Releaved, Tsuna thinks to herself with a smile as she concentrates on her own summoning circle, 'this means they solved the problem and it wasn't my fault.'

All of a sudden her magic circle starts to pulse as something tries to come through and Tsuna holds her breath. The first thing she sees is a bit of blonde fluff and she begins to panic. The memory of her last summoning pops into her head and she worries that maybe it's the same creature. But her fears are quickly put at ease as the creature pops all the way out of the magic circle, revealing a fuzzy round yellow body about the size of a soccerball, two fluffy wings on either side, big blue eyes and a yellow beak.

'So cute!' Tsuna thinks as she reaches out and hugs the small creature.

"You're so cute," she gushes, "you're definitely not a Azure Bird but you're just as cute!"

Running her hands through his feathers she whispers, "and so soft!"

Ready to begin the process of forming a contract with this fluffy creature, Tsuna holds it out and gives the bird creature one last look. But pauses as she meets its eyes. Unblinking blue eyes stare back at her. A pair of familiar looking unblinking blue eyes stare at her. A pair of familiar creepy looking unblinking blue eyes stare at her. Eyes that remind her of a group of babies who weren't babies.

Smile quickly disappearing, Tsuna doesn't even notice as the bird begins to sweat and flutter its wing in worry.

"You bastard!" eyes flashing orange she tightens her hold on the creature and then throws it down into the magic circle with all her strength, "did you really think I wouldn't notice!"

The creature gave one pitiful squawk before it disappears into the circle. Quickly Tsuna breaks the magic and ends her summoning. As she turns around to grab the tools to clean up her mess, she meets the face of professor Yi who has finished helping the other students and is now checking on Tsuna. Feeling a cold sweat break out on the back of her neck, she laughs nervously.

Letting out a sigh Tsuna leaves the classroom. As she was one of the few students who had been unable to summon a creature, at least that's what she told them, and she had broken her summoning circle. Because of this, she had to stay behind to listen to the standard lecture on how to properly create and maintain a summoning circle. While not a big deal, it is still incredibly annoying. She knows how to properly create and maintain a summoning circle.

If anything, Tsuna supposes she should be thankful no one had seen her. If they had, she would have a lot of explaining to do.

Thinking about it, Tsuna silently cries and thinks, 'this can't be happening! This is just some kind of a mistake, right?! That couldn't have been him! Maybe I'm just over reacting? Maybe it really was just a normal creature? But what if it was him? What if I can't summon a normal creature? What if he keeps showing up in my summoning circles?! No don't think like that, I've already decided I will put my past life behind me and live this life how I want! And no matter how much they look like my family and friends from my previous life, they aren't them! There's no reason to get involved with them! Anyways, the next practical summoning class will be focused on creatures with storm flames, which means it's unlikely I'll run into him again!'

Burying her fears and concerns deep down, Tsuna takes a deep breath and lets it out. It's then that she catches movement on her left. Turning to look down the hallway she notices a familiar face. Yamamoto stands in front of her making some wide gestures and looking as if he is talking to someone. Not being able to hear, she moves slightly and sees the person that Yamamoto is talking to. A young man with disheveled black hair that reaches his chin, black eyes with bags under them and wearing a black shirt and black jeans holds out what looks to be some rolled up paper. She watches as Yamamoto takes the paper and smiles happily.

For a moment she watches their interaction before turning away. What yamamoto does isn't any of her business. No matter how weird and suspicious it looks. As she continues to walk, she can't help but feel that something is wrong, that something is going to happen and she most likely won't like it. Not wanting to think about she buries those feels deep inside.

There are several reasons why this fic took so long to update. But I won't bore you with the details. I seriously hope you enjoy this chapter because I had so much trouble writing it and kept second guessing myself.

Like I mentioned before this fic is a bit slow paced but things should be picking up next chapter. And look Tsuna managed to summon a cute bird this chapter. Unfortunately it wasn't the bird she wanted and she had to throw the beast back to the hell it spawned from but still a bird!

A summoning hall is basically a assembly hall, a large room for events to take place. Or in this case for students to summon creatures.
