It had only been 60 days.

Why did it feel like eternity?

Her body was healing, sure. But her heart. Her soul. It was diminishing. No matter how much good she did in Reeves name, nothing seemed to ease the ache. Nothing even scratched the surface. She knew the change would be hard. That leaving everything and everyone she knew for so long would take time. An adjustment period.

120 days.

"Hey Gibbs."

"Hey Abs." He encompassed his usual silence and was prepared to listen to everything she wanted to update him on. He wagered about twenty minutes since it had been a while since she'd called. But this time, she was silent and he was venturing into unchartered territory. "You there?"

She responded quickly. "Yeah."

"Homesick?"

How did he always know? "A little…" She paused. "Okay, a lot."

Silence came again. Gibbs was usually comfortable with silence, but his gut was telling him something was wrong.

"Sleeping much?"

Abby had to smile. "How do you do that?"

"Been through a rough patch or two myself before."

She nodded to no one. "I think it will just take some time."

Gibbs wanted nothing more than to end the call and take the first flight out to her. All she had to do was ask. All she ever had to do was ask.

"Just wish…"

He finished for her. "It never happened. Yeah. I know. Can't go down that rabbit hole Abs."

"I really liked rabbit holes when I was a kid…" she sighed outwardly.

Then the silence came again.

She didn't expect much back and forth from Gibbs. She never did. Him always being there was enough. He was always enough.

"I should get to bed."

He understood. "I'll be up if you need to call."

"I miss you Gibbs." It was out of context but it had to be said. She almost felt a little better just saying it out loud.

He responded in kind. "Miss ya too Abs."

The phone call should have ended then.

"I have a spare bedroom?" She regretted it as soon as she said it. He hadn't taken a vacation day off work since she'd known him.

Gibbs didn't hesitate. "Just say when." But just like before, his gut told him what he already knew. "I'll book the first flight out Abs."

She instantly felt at ease. "Should I stock up on Bourbon?"

"From the sounds of you, maybe Kleenex?"

Abby laughed outright. "Thanks Gibbs."

"See you soon Abs."
