Wrong Place Right Time
Chapter Twenty-six
I Don't Know What to Call You Yet
(A/N: The chapter was made short because the next chapter will be a doozy, I think. Enjoy.)
Jo:
The dream started somewhat unusual for me, even though I was no stranger to weird dreams.
I stood in a meadow of soft green grass and poppies. I stood on the yellow brick road. All of a sudden, I grew cold and it started to snow. In the back of my head, I wondered if the Emerald City would appear, and I could almost hear the gals singing, "You're out of the woods, you're out of the dark, you're out of the night, step into the sun, step into the light."
I don't think I do drugs...
Out of the blue sky, I saw a witch on a broom that brought chills down to my very soul. She was a blind woman that had a hood over her head and twin braids that went down from the sides of her head.
"Shepherd…"
… SERIOUSLY! I DON'T-!
My dream was cut short by the feeling of a palm striking across my face. I turned to see the familiar face of the woman who was in the room I entered prior whilst rubbing my cheek.
"Are you done with the dramatics, Shepherd? Or do you want to just go back to whatever abomination that was?"
Abomination?! That place looks a whole lot better than- how did she know about that?
"Shepherd, my name is not important right now. What is important is that right now you're in your mind, as am I."
My "Head" started feeling fuzzy from that information and my eyes almost closed before another slap came across my face.
"OWWW!"
"Will you shape up girl?! I'm trying to help you!"
"What are you talking about?! If what you say is true, then you're a figment of my imagination!"
The woman sighed, "No. I am not."
I wanted to deny it.
"And why should I take your word for it?"
"If that was the case girl, then right now you are having an argument with yourself. Do you really want to accept that conclusion?"
But she had a point. If she was a part of my mind, I would have recognized her from somewhere. So I accepted the woman's logic.
"Alright then, what do you want?"
"Finally. I'm here as part investigator and part teacher."
I thought a moment before I asked her to explain it.
"For my own curiosity, I am here to learn who and what you are. You and your 'brother' can use the force, and yet you are not dictated by it."
This confused me more, and I asked, "And that means?"
"The force itself controls all within its reach. Actions, desires, and emotions are not safe from it."
"But that sounds stupid! We would be nothing but robots at its whim!"
Instead of retorting, the woman started laughing gradually. It grew to the point where it sounded psychotic.
"It seems I have chosen well."
"I don't follow?"
"You see… I hate the force… It has led me to nothing but pain. And yet I trained in it, only as a way to defeat it. I fell, forever trapped in its clutches."
She slowly moved closer, and I slowly moved back.
"Then one day, the force gave me a chance. You. It cannot lay hold of your mind, or your 'brother's.' You have twisted it's very fabric. The force believed it was nigh by merely existing, you have changed what was set in stone for millennia. Something I could not do, no matter how hard I tried. I tried…"
My back was now flush against the wall and the woman stopped walking.
"As you can see Shepherd, I need you to enact my will."
"A-and what 'will' is that?"
"To put an end to the force..."
Such a thing was way out of my comprehension as to guess why.
"Why would you want that? I thought the Force was like a life force for your galaxy."
"Exactly, but things can exist without it. Your people are the missing link to the puzzle."
The woman then backed off and walked to the center of the room with her back towards me.
The Earthicans?
"If you will allow me, I can show you a glimpse into the power I hold."
She quickly turned around and the room quaked to the power she gave off. Her hands rose up and lightning formed around them. As they struck the floor around her I fell to the ground in fear. Even seeing Dooku preform the act not a few days ago prepared me for this amount.
"Listen here girl, you have potential. But just potential at this point. Only by mere chance have you made it this far. What I offer you will be the solution to that issue. You will be rejected, possibly hunted by jedi for what I will give you."
It was unreal, surely it was impossible to just learn this power...
Even so…
"Why would I be hunted down?"
The woman breathed before stopping her flow of power.
"What I showed you was just a taste, with my full knowledge you could stop anyone in your way. Becoming stronger… It is what the Jedi would call the power of the darkside."
The word darkside didn't register in my mind, only the word before echoed in my head. Stronger… It was something I lacked my first week. She was offering it on a silver platter!
If I was strong enough, I wouldn't have been scared facing off against the raiders! Arik might be alive! If I had this power I could have defeated the slavers with ease! Surely! I-!
I stopped my mental tangent before it got worse. Something was wrong…
The woman smiled, "What's the matter girl? Is it too much?"
"Why am I in my mind?"
"Don't you remember Shepherd?"
"WHY AM I HERE?!"
The woman's smile fell, "If you think hard enough you will remember, but I shall give you a hint. You were with those who call themselves 'jedi.'"
That hint seemed familiar, it was enough for my mind to build a picture.
We were having a meeting. We had rejected an offer given to us… Then… the man…
No sooner having realized what happened, I felt hatred. Hatred at me, the fact my brother might be...
"I should warn you, giving you this knowledge will be painful. Your mind will need to adjust."
I ignored the warning as I only had one thing on my mind.
"Teach me!"
And I would do whatever it took to get strong.
I won't give in!
I didn't know how wrong I was until it started.
