Why do we Love
Brother...why did you let me die?
Hiccup looks around to see nothing but darkness.
I'm scared
Hiccup frantically looks around.
Help me!
He turns to see a little girl in white clothing looking down. She looks familiar to Hiccup however that doesn't put him to ease. He walks forward cautiously but jumps back as the girl looks up at him. The girl had brown hair and green emerald eyes. The girl looks at him expressionlessly. Suddenly she bolts forward sprinting towards him at full speed. Hiccup is too scared to move as he remains motionless just watching her run up to him.
Suddenly she starts to glitch out as she appears and reappears still running forward. Her hair starts falling off. Her skin begins to rot turning grey. Her left eye hangs loosely from her eye socket. Hiccup scared at the sight finally notices her close proximity. Once she's close enough he aims and kicks for her head but before impact, she disappears. He looks around for her but sees nothing. He turns and there she stands right in front of him. He goes for another kick but this time the girl laughs and grabs his foot before he could kick her.
"That's not any way to treat your sister now is it?" She asks while smiling
Hiccup is terrified and pulls his leg down this time aiming to punch her. The punches phase through her.
"You'll have to do better," A voice says from behind him.
Hiccup turns to see two other versions of him there. "Wha-"
"Hello there boss." The confident one says while the other hangs back a little still looking at the girl.
"Who are you? What is this place?"
"Who are we? Were locks. Chains if you will. You didn't want to remember a painful memory and so you subconsciously created me to lock him away" The confident one says while pointing to the other version. "I'm you after the incident, whereas he is you from before. And as so where are we, well we're in your mind. Your thoughts. Your memories. Your subconscious."
"Why am I here?"
"You're here because the shackles you put on your memories have become undone. From this point on I won't be calling any of the shots. You won't ever see me again"
"Shackles? What shackles?"
"When you were a kid you experienced something terrible that made you go insane. So your mind protected you by forgetting what really happened. But now those shackles are loose. Your memories are returning. You've already seen the girl before haven't you?"
Hiccup remembers the bloody girl from the park.
"That was a sign of you remembering. You entered that park, the place where it happened and it triggered a memory. Now your mind should be able to handle the stress and burden of those memories. Hopefully, you don't go insane."
"That girl... she's my sister and I remember she was killed because I wasn't strong enough."
"Hmm, funny that's what I remember too, however, that's not the complete memory. Well, no matter you'll find out the whole thing soon enough. Hopefully, you don't die from it." The confident Hiccup fades away never to be seen again.
The other quite Hiccup sheds a tear but smiles and looks at the girl.
"So. How come you haven't vanished?" Hiccup asks past Hiccup.
"Because I'm the vessel that contains the complete memories of the incident."
"Then show me them"
"I can't. If I show them all to you at once your mind might not be able to handle it. I'll have to show it to you slowly."
"Tch, fine" Hiccup looks at the smiling female ghost and squint's his eyes.
"I'll show you a small memory of what happened," Past Hiccup said while closing his eyes.
Hiccup gasps as memories start flooding his mind.
A little Hiccup can be seen looking for someone at the park. "Jeniffer? Where are you?" He asks playfully while running around. He hears whimpering and crying behind some bushes and decides to investigate. He pushes the bushes aside and sees men fondling his sister as they rip off her clothes while she screams for help.
"Je-jeniffer?"
Hiccups' sister looks at him with pleading eyes. Hiccup scared stiff doesn't know what to do. Jenifer opens her mouth to say something but is cut off as the memory ends.
Suddenly Hiccups' head feels like it's exploding. He moans in pain as he kneels on the ground. "What's happening?!"
"Side effects of the memories. Regaining your memories places a huge strain on your mind."
Hiccup starts screaming from the pain as he shuts his eyes tightly.
"I'm sorry but this is how it has to be. Your memories will be coming at you at random times. It can come at the worst possible moments but remember this, without your memories intact you won't have a snowball's chance in hell of beating your father."
Hiccup awakens abruptly yelling "JENNIFER!" He gasps for air as he feels his heart rate quicken. He feels something warm running down his mouth and wipes it with his hand. Looking at his hand he sees a lot of blood. Suddenly he feels himself about to throw up so he runs to the bathroom. He throws up blood violently all over his sink. He looks up at the mirror and sees blood leaking from his nose, mouth, and eyes.
"What the hell is happening to me?" He questions. He then widens his eyes in realization and begins to chuckle to himself. "I can't believe it. How could I have forgotten my own sisters' name?" He cleans his sink and washes his face. He looks at the mirror again and sees Jennifer behind him. He turns quickly but no one is there. Facing the mirror again he sees only himself now. A scared child.
He leaves the restroom and gets dressed. Before he leaves his room he sees the wristband Elsa gave him. Hiccup sighs and decides to put it on as to become accustomed to it for when the fights begin. He heads to the living room where he turns on the television. Someone knocks on his door. He stands up and makes to open his door only for it to be kicked open knocking him and the door down. Four men come rushing in his home knocking stuff on the floor and just making a mess of everything.
Hiccup stands up and looks to see one of them grab toothless by the tail and pick him up. Hiccup grows in anger and rushes the man but he's tackled by another. They both wrestle for dominance until Hiccup throws the assailant off of him. He looks back at toothless to see him being kicked across the room. Hiccup charges the kicker and slams him against the wall hitting him across the face multiple times. Two other assailants pull Hiccup off of him but he throws one last kick to the man against the wall. As the two hold Hiccup, the last man comes and hits Hiccup in his stomach and slaps his face.
Hiccup glares at them and the assailant raises his fist to hit Hiccup again but cries in pain as Toothless jumps on his face scratching him. Hiccup takes this opportunity to free himself as he stomps on both their feet and elbows them in the stomach forcing them to release him. Hiccup grabs Toothless and runs out of the home trying to escape them. He runs out to see more people with torches and gasoline outside. Looking around him he sees them pour gasoline all over his house.
One of the assailants lights the gas on fire burning the house. Hiccup watches as his house burns down before him but suddenly one of the assailants walks up to him.
"The boss sends his regards." the man pulls out a gun and aims it at Hiccup. Hiccups' eyes widen as the man prepares to pull the trigger. Hiccup gets a flashback to his fathers' teachings.
"Son, how would you avoid a bullet?" Stoick asks as a man comes in holding a rifle.
"Umm you can't. The bullet moves too fast to avoid or block." A young Hiccup answers.
Stoick is disappointed in his sons' answer as the man points the gun at Stoick. Hiccup is alarmed by this and is about to say something but is cut off by his father.
"Son pay close attention. Today I'll teach you to avoid something you can't see." He puts a right hand in front of him and his left hand to his hip with his right leg bent forward and his left leg bent behind him. "Spiteloud, remember. Shoot me but don't let me know when you're going to."
Spiteloud sweats but nods okay. One minute passes. Five minute passes. Another ten-minute passes and finally, Spiteloud pulls the trigger. A loud bang is heard and the clatter of a gun. Spiteloud is on the ground sitting on his ass looking surprised. Blood trickles down his forehead. 'He-he hit me?!' he wipes away the blood and stands up to see Stoick standing there in his stance. "Jesus. Martial arts is terrifying." Spiteloud says.
Stoick turns his gaze to Hiccup in a serious gaze. "Did you see what happened?"
Hiccup still shocked at what happened nodded dumbly. Stoick glared at his dumb response and demanded him to tell him what happened.
"Yo-you moved before he shot."
"That's correct. Move before your opponent moves. Follow your opponent movements and react in time you could even dodge lighting." Stoick picks up the gun and aims it at his son which surprises both Hiccup and Spitelout. "Now then, your turn" Hiccup is scared and backs away. "SON! A man who can't fight what he can't see is a second rate fighter!" A loud bang rings across the room.
Back in the present one of Hiccups scars ache. 'Damn that old man!' Hiccup grits his teeth and pays attention to the gunners' movements. He begins pulling the trigger so Hiccup ducks and moves forward. The bullet misses him startling the gunner. The gunner goes for another shot but gets punched in the face knocking him down. The gunner flinches waiting for the next hit but it never comes. Looking around he sees Hiccup running away.
'I can't fight them in this state.' Hiccup says while running away dodging the people who set his house on fire. Hiccups' nose starts to bleed again. 'Fuck! Not now.' He looks back to see his house get burned down completely. Turning his head he looks straightforward and runs full speed away with toothless running beside him.
The gunman looks at Hiccup grinning while aiming at him. 'Boss said not to kill you but to hell with that! I'll just say there was an accident, he won't blame me. Besides he was going to kill you either way.' He pulls the trigger and everything slowed down. Hiccup turns his gaze back to see the gunman shoot and tries to move but he wasn't fast enough as the bullet pierced his chest. Hiccup coughs up blood and falls to the grown.
Before the gunman can shoot again the police arrive and everyone scatters. 'Tch. Whatever not like your surviving that' he leaves dropping the gun and escaping.
Toothless meows worryingly as he licks Hiccups' face. Hiccup stands up while covering his wound with his right hand. He walks away from the scene leaving a blood trail behind him. Toothless follows close behind.
Thirty minutes later
Hiccup is walking into an alley and tries to keep himself upright but his strength leaves him forcing him to fall to the floor. He grits his teeth in pain as he pushes his back against the wall. 'Fuck! At this rate, I'm going to bleed out.' Toothless jumps on his lap and licks his face.
Smiling Hiccup pets Toothless's head. "Sorry bud...I k-know you went through a lot tonight.' Hiccup closes his eyes and drifts off to sleep not noticing the wrist band Elsa gave him start to blink.
