I apologise that it has taken this long to finish this story. I was stuck for how to end it. I hope this was worth the wait!

Fate

The Man and the Elf fought side by side, their blades cutting down every creature that threw itself at them. Legolas could feel the eye of Sauron honing in on him, watching his every move, waiting for the one wrong move that would end him. The elf kept his mind blank to everything else, he did not want the dark lord knowing the true nature of why they were fighting a battle they could not win. He felt himself being separated from the Ranger and looked to see that there were now a good few orcs between himself and the future King of Gondor. He did not let this stop him however and so he continued to slice through the enemy with his twin blades, making light work of the Mordor Orcs. The ground then shook and a roar filled the air, consuming the battle sounds around them. Aragorn turned to see a great armoured troll staring him down, with eyes wide he readied himself as the creature charged at him wielding a mighty sword. The man swung his own blade, blocking the blows as best as he could but the troll was mighty and he could feel his arms tiring as the troll rained down blow after blow before finally throwing Aragorn through the air with one bat of his huge hand. Legolas stood there in horror, watching as the creature stomped towards Aragorn who lay winded on the ground. He felt hopeless as he watched it get closer and closer as Aragorn gingerly pushed himself up but his efforts were for nought as he was pushed back down by the trolls club foot. Legolas managed to move from the spot he had felt glued to the moment before and pushed his way through both man and orc in an attempt to get to his friend.

'Aragorn!' he shouted as his path was blocked by two orcs.

His eyes were wide as he watched in complete horror, unable to reach his friend. His attention was then grabbed by one of the orcs that had blocked his path, cutting it down before another challenged him. Aragorn stabbed the dull creatures foot with his blade which did little but anger it further. It roared in his face and rose his sword ready to strike but abruptly stopped and turned his head in the direction of the gate. Screeching filled the air and the troll and surrounding orcs fled as the battlefield crumbled beneath their feet. Aragorn stood up slowly, mouth agape as he watched the eye of Sauron shake in fear, the tower crumbling beneath it before exploding and knocking everything evil to the ground. They all watched in awe as the darkness of middle earth crumbled to little more than shards of rock before their very eyes. Merry began to chant Frodo's name with his sword above his head but the shouts stopped when the mountain began to spew fire, taking down the Nazgul that still swarmed that blackened land beyond the gate.

Without a word Gandalf fled to the edge of the battlefield, mounting one of the eagles that perched waiting there. The group then watched as the wizard flew towards the mountain with a mixture of hope and sorrow filling their hearts. Legolas stalked towards Aragorn, taking in the mans general condition and pleased to see that he was not harmed.

'You are well Mellon? he quizzed as he watched Aragorn sheath his sword.

Aragorn nodded and then placed a friendly hand on his companion's shoulder 'Aye I am well.'

The adrenaline from battle began to wear off and the elf began to let his mind fill itself again. The pain was the first thing he was aware of and his expression soon changed to one of confusion as it began to consume him. Breathing started to become more difficult, each breath a battle in its own right. The prince's eyes drifted down and were greeted by a bloody palm, a palm that had been holding his abdomen but a minute before. He soon realised that his tunic was saturated, his eyes drifting back to the Ranger who had also seen this and whose face now was etched with terror. The world came rushing towards him as his legs gave way, to fast for the man to react and so he hit the ground with some force.

'Legolas!' Shouted Aragorn as he dropped to his companion's side.

He rolled the elf over and was greeted by his paling face, lips painted with blood as his breath gargled in his throat. The Ranger looked closer at the wound and saw that it was deep and jagged, most likely from an orc's sword. The wound gushed blood and so he tore some of his cape off and placed it onto it in an attempt to staunch the bleeding.

'I heard his voice in my head. Sauron told me that I would fail.' Said Legolas as he fought to stay conscious.

'You have not failed Mellon Nin.' replied Aragorn as he placed his hand on the elf's shoulder in an attempt to comfort him.

'I said that we may not survive this, I saw the troll in a vision. I did not see this coming, however.' continued the elf as he coughed, blood splattering his pale cheeks.

The rangers heart sank at the sight 'You will not die here today, I will save you.'

Legolas smiled weakly at the future King, his eyes then wandering to the dwarf and hobbits that now stood around him. Even Éomer stood behind Aragorn, his brow furrowed as he watched the scene unfold. Legolas returned his gaze to the man who was watching him with tear-filled eyes, he was glad to be surrounded by his friends, he had never wanted to die alone. The elf began to gasp for breath, coughing more violently as blood began to spill from his lips and then he stilled as his eyes rolled back and his body went limp.

'Legolas?…' said the man as he shook his companion 'Legolas no, please wake my friend.'

The Prince did not wake and he felt the tears that had threatened to fall, now slip freely down his dirtied cheeks. The Hobbits fell to their knees as fresh tears fell from their tired eyes, everyone was so fixated on the elf that no one saw the eagle come towards them. Picking up Legolas in its mighty talon, it then followed Gandalf and its kin back towards the white city and leaving the others there in shock.

The rest of the troop made it back to Minas Tirith a little while after the wizard. In that time, Frodo, Sam and Legolas had all been taken by various healers. Aragorn had ridden hard back to the white city, not even stopping to change, he had headed straight to the infirmary, relieved to hear that the hobbits were in relatively good health. The elf, however, was gravely wounded and he was told that they would do all they could to save him. With this news, Aragorn had headed straight to the room where Legolas lay. He was laid out under fresh sheets, his bloodied bandage stood out in stark contrast to the white sheets that covered him. His breathing was weak and raspy but there. He sat and watched his friend fight for each breath he took. He could not believe that after all that the elf had been through, surviving the Palantír and the visions that had plagued him that he may fall to a blade. The man wondered what he should say, but words escaped him and so he chose to say nothing at all, just sat and watched his friend for he felt that if he took his eyes off of the elf for a moment, he would slip away. Others visited Legolas, the Hobbits, the Dwarf, Éomer and even Éowyn visited the Prince. The days passed and Legolas showed little if no signs of recovery. His wound would not close and his breathing slowed yet Aragorn still held on to the hope that his friend would survive this.

'How is he?' said a soft voice.

Aragorn looked up to see Frodo stood in the doorway, concern painting his features.

'He still lives but he does not heal.' replied the man as he took a puff from his pipe.

Frodo stepped further into the room, noting the paleness of Legolas' skin and the blue tinge to his lips. Never had he seen the elf in such a delicate state, for he always thought the elf invincible.

'Frodo.' said a small voice and both the Hobbit and the Ranger jumped in surprise as they looked at the elf.

Legolas' eyes cracked open to reveal sapphire orbs beneath. The hobbit leapt to the Prince's side and poured some water into the cup that sat on the table beside his bed, bringing it to his lips and watching as the elf sipped it before nodding in thanks.

'I was starting to think I would never hear your voice again Mellon Nin.'

'Bah! I'm not that easy to kill.' Joked the elf as he opened his eyes wider 'how bad is it?'

'Your wound does not seem to be healing. You have been bedridden for days with no sign of recovery.' replied the ranger as he leant forward in his chair.

'I see,' replied the elf as he blinked, his eyes still adjusting the golden light that filled the room 'how do you a fair dear Hobbit?'

'I am well Legolas, but you should not trouble yourself with me. Focus on you and getting well. I am sure we would all like to see you at Aragorn's coronation on Saturday.' replied the Hobbit as he placed a comforting hand on the Prince's shoulder.

'Aye I would like to be there if I can.' he replied as he smiled weakly.

'Then rest.' Finished the halfling as he smiled at the elf before turned to face the Ranger again 'I should see how Sam is. Please keep me updated on his condition. I will not rest easy until I know he is well.'

Aragorn nodded and watched as the halfling left again, smiling at Frodo's selfless nature.

'Come now stubborn elf, listen to Master Baggins. Rest so that you are well for my ceremony. That is not a shindig that you will easily escape from.' stated the Man as he stood from his chair.

Days passed and Legolas began to finally show signs of improvement, by Friday he was hobbling around with a stick for support. Many of his people had arrived from Mirkwood for the coronation. Preparations for the big day filled the palace with the sounds of frenzied servants trying to get things done. Legolas would sit and watch them as they scurried about, a smile on his face. It was over. The darkness as defeated. Perhaps this meant that the visions would no longer plague him. For now, however, he cherished the peace that now lay over Middle Earth, he was just glad that he had survived to see it. He knew now that darkness would never return to Middle-Earth.
