Tell us a story, Mary Poppins

Fanfiction written by LivingOnLaughs

Mary Poppins had come by to watch over Jane and Michael for the night while their parents were at the hospital to prepare for the newest addition in the Banks' family. "Mary Poppins, is everything going to be alright?" Jane asked, putting a hand on Michael's shoulder. "Of course Judy, now come on, off to bed."

"Already?!" the two Banks children cried in unison. "Stop crying guys. I have a story to tell you, but only if you two behave and get ready for bed." The babysitter explained. The two kids smiled as they raced off to the nursery to get changed and clean up before they heard the story.

"Tell us a story, Mary Poppins." The two kids exclaimed, each child tucked in and ready for a bedtime story. "Alright then, how about…no….maybe….no… I got it! Do you two want to know how I met Bert?" Mary asked. Jane and Michael smiled as they eagerly proclaimed that they'd love to hear how they met.

"Well then, Bert and I, we were at the playground. I was with my mom and dad: Estelle and Frederick Poppins and little Bert was with his parents: Susan and Bert Senior when…

***Flashback***

Bert was busy playing with the bristles on his dad's chimney brush, humming a little; but not talking, as he was a very shy four-year-old son of a chimney sweep and was afraid to speak. Mary then raced towards him and exclaimed, "Wow. Your hat is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Where'd you get it?" Bert just pointed at his daddy, who was buying a bag of birdseed with his tuppence. The woman, her husband and her daughter that lived near the steps of St. Paul's smiled at him as he left, birdseed in hand. "Come on Bert, me young lad. Let's feed them birds." Bert Senior explained. Mary looked at Bert Junior's dad before telling the four-year-old to do it. "Bert, feeding birds sounds like some supercalifragilisticexpialidocious fun, enjoy yourself." She explained. Bert just looked at Mary in confusion before trying to repeat the big word she just said. "Super-cali-fragile-is-tic-x-pea-al-a-do-sh-us?" he asked. "That's right. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Yes I know the sound of it is something quiet atrocious, but if you say it loud enough, you'll always sound precautious." Mary replied before adding, "By the way, I'm the Prim and Perfect Mary Poppins, and you must be Bert Junior. Oh well, meeting you was definitely supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." The four-year-old girl explained before heading back to her parents. "Buh bye." Bert Junior called back before his father looked at him and chuckled, saying, "Well I guess you won't need to have your nose tweaked again and I won't have to tell you're bad at talking." And with that Bert Junior and Mary became childhood friends.

"And that's how we met." Mary explained before tiptoeing out of the nursery, leaving the kids to sleep and answering the phone. "Hello. Oh Mr. Banks, how's Winnifred? She did? It's a girl! Congratulations. That news definitely is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. I'll put them on the line." Mary exclaimed before calling out Jane and Michael's names.

"What is it, Mary Poppins?" Michael asked as he at Judy stood by their babysitter. "You guys have a baby sister named Leona. Go on, congratulate your parents." Mary explained as she let the Banks' children talk to their parents.

Mary looked at Beaky before saying, "Well, when Mr., Mrs., and Leona Banks get home in a couple of days, we'll have to leave Judy and Michael again." She told it with a sigh.
