Aubrey spent a few hours in Beca's Room, trying to give her some comfort and ideas for the performance, with a little help from Stacie via FaceTime. Finally the brunette fell asleep and Aubrey thought she should let her rest a bit before the performance. She was about to leave Beca's room - that was right next to Chloe's - and froze with her hand on the doorknob when the redhead arrived there with Chicago and she couldn't help but to listen.
"I..." Chloe fell silent for a little while and Aubrey held her breath "I need time to think about it..."
"Oh, yeah. Yeah, sure... uhm... I'll pick you up later, okay?"
"Of course! See you later." Although Chloe's voice wasn't that excited, Aubrey could practically see the big kind smile on her friend's face just to reassure the marine. She then heard heavy steps walking past Beca's room and she finally got out of there, leaving Beca to rest.
"Hey!" Aubrey tried to sound happier than she was. She wanted to make Chloe stay with Beca, now that she understood Beca's side. But she wasn't going to ruin the surprise she and Stacie helped Beca to plan for that night. They still had time. "How was the date?"
"It was fine..." Chloe furrowed her eyebrows, pointing at Beca's door. "Why were you in there?"
"Nothing. You should get ready. Want help?"
.C.
Chloe had just finished doing her make up when heard a knock on her door. Expecting Chicago, she opened it with a big bright smile. She was still sad about that whole situation, but was truly proud of Beca and was excited to watch her performance.
"Hi, Ch-" Beca dropped her jaw, looking at Chloe from head to toe. "Wow..."
She couldn't help but smile widely at Beca's reaction. "That was exactly the reaction I was going for"
"But from Cincinnati, right?" Chloe was about to correct her and maybe start an argument right after that, but Beca noticed the woman's annoyance and raised a hand. "Okay, nevermind, sorry. I'm not here to fight."
"Good. Then why are you here and not getting ready? You're not gonna perform in your pyjamas, are you?"
"I wish!" Beca's soft giggle made the redhead's heart skip a beat and she felt warm inside. It was like that since Beca's freshman year at Barden and she had a feeling it would still happen for a long, long time. "But no. I'm heading there right now, Khaled's got his make up artists and all backstage. I'm here to see if you'd like to come with me.. like, now."
"Oh... I would love to..." Beca's eyes filled with hope and Chloe sighed. "But Chicago's coming to pick me up."
"Oh, okay. Cool, cool, cool..."
"I know you're not. You turn into Jake Peralta when you're not cool with something. But I'm sorry, he asked first."
"No, that's... that's fine, Chlo, really..." Chloe knew it wasn't, tho. She knew Beca way too well. "I should get going. See you there."
"See ya..." She watched Beca leave the room and sat at her bed, swimming deep in her thoughts until Chicago appeared a few minutes later.
"Hey, are you okay?" He entered the room, coming towards her with a concerned expression. "Why are you crying?"
She didn't even noticed she was crying again until he pointed that out "Nothing, nevermind.." Chloe shook her head and fixed her make up. "Just random thoughts... We better get going, right? I don't wanna be late!"
.B.
After Beca's performance, she went backstage to look for Chloe. That was kind of a coming out song for her and now she was ready to let the world know that she loved Chloe. Loved her so much that she had planned the rest of the night with Aubrey and Stacie's help so that she could talk things through with Chloe and maybe get back together. This time for real. But she needed to find Chloe now or their wouldn't get in time for the restaurant Aubrey reserved for them.
"Have you seen Chloe?" She asked Amy and CR, who were kind of blocking her way through the hallway. The two of them looked at each other, silently getting into an agreement. "What is happening?"
"You won't like what you'll see back there, Beca..." CR glanced over her shoulder and wrinkled her nose. "You really won't."
"What is it?" She fought her way through them and there was Chloe, right around the corner. Kissing Chicago like they were in some sort of romantic movies. "Oh..."
She couldn't stop staring, even though it hurt her. Her heart sank into her stomach, her whole body feeling hot with the urge to go there and punch the marine in the face, so she crossed her arms so that she wouldn't do it. Her eyes were starting to sting and for the first time she was glad that Theo showed up. They left Chloe and Chicago do their thing and Beca didn't look back.
.B.
After talking to Theo a couple of hours, Beca found herself a quiet and hidden place at the last floor of the hotel. The view was amazing, shinning stars filled the sky, the moon was bright and big. But all she could think about was Chloe. Chloe's eyes, always so shiny, closed while kissing Chicago. The way she grabbed his uniform during the kiss. Her leg up on his. Chicago's hands all over her hair, her body. his mouth on her mouth. She let out a disgusted grunt while the scene replayed itself in her head for the millionth time.
Beca heard steps coming closer and glanced their way, immediately rolling her eyes and looking back at the sky. Chicago sat next to her with a sigh and she could feel his gaze on her.
"You really messed it up, you know?.." She stood in silence, refusing to talk to him. "I get that I'm probably the last person you want to see right now. But I just wanted to let you know that I asked Chloe to stay here for a while."
Beca looked at him, letting out a hollow laugh. "Dude, seriously?! You're here to tell me that?! What, are you trying to make me feel worse about all this?! What did I ever do to you, man?!"
Shaking his head, Chicago looked up at the stars, smiling softly. "She said no, Beca." She was about to ask if he was joking when he looked back at her. "She loves you. Even after you cheated on her, she still does love you. Don't fuck with it again." They both stayed quiet for a few minutes, then Chicago got uup on his feet. "What are you waiting for, anyway? Go get your girl.."
He walked away and she drew her phone out of her pocket, going through the text messages from Chloe in the last four hours.
Where are you?*
I need to talk to you, Becs.*
Call me when you get this.*
And then there was a voicemail. She stood up, her phone on her ear and making her way to Chloe's room.
"Uhm.. hey Becs... where are you? Send me anything just so I know you're alive, It's been like four hours and nobody knows where you are! I know it sounds a bit crazy, but after that whole thing with Amy's dad... I'm really worried, please be safe..." A long pause and Beca was about to hang up, then "I love you, Beca."
The smile on Beca's face was so wide it hurt her cheeks, but she couldn't help it.
When she turned to the Bellas' hallway, she saw Chloe there, sitting on the floor in front of Beca's door. The instant their eyes met Chloe got up to her feet, running towards Beca and throwing herself at the brunette, strong arms squeezing her.
"I was so worried!" Chloe's voice cracked
"I know... I'm sorry, babe. Just needed some space."
"Bree told me all the things you planned for us tonight... that's pretty sweet. Didn't know you had it in you, Mitchell" Chloe grinned at her, taking one step back to look at her.
"I don't. It was all Stacie's idea"
"Shush, don't ruin this! You still went along with it."
"Yeah... but now it's too late to do that, it doesn't matter anymore:
"Maybe one day we could do it!"
"Maybe..." Beca smile faded away and they got into her room. "We need to talk."
"Bree told me everything, Beca.."
"I know. But I have to do this by myself." She pushed Chloe to sit on the bed as she walked back and forth, playing with her hands. "What I did with Calamity wasn't an accident, I know that. But I was just so scared of being in a serious relationship again that I tried to push you away. You were right, I'm so sorry I tried to do that. You know, after Jesse and I broke up I've never had that with any other person and you know how bad that relationship ended. I didn't want that to happen to us... but I realized I was making things worse and-"
"Beca!" Chloe called a little bit louder, giggling at the brunette. "Breathe."
"Right..." Beca took a deep breath and stopped in front of Chloe. "So, the point is.."
"I get it. Will you please just kiss me?" And with a smile, Chloe pulled on Beca's jacket, bringing their lips together.
