"Scott!"

Melissa McCall's voice rang through the old, weathered house and her son winced.

"Geez Mom, you don't have to yell," Scott scrunched his face up at the volume as he turned the corner from the stairwell to the kitchen.

"But I wasn't-you we're all the way upstairs and I...," Melissa's unfinished sentence trailed off as she realized that her son, being a werewolf and all, could hear her just fine.

Werewolf.

It was such a strange notion; accepting that your only son is a mythological creature is no easy feat. It'd been two whole weeks since the incident at the police station when she'd found out, but things were still tense between her and Scott. Melissa had a hard time adjusting to the little things. How he left in the middle of the night, how his eyes flared golden when he stubbed his toe, how he smelled the steak in the fridge that was supposed to be a surprise dinner in honor of his B+ on a chemistry test.

Shaking out of her revelry, Melissa refocused her attention to the boy standing in front of her.

"Sorry sweetie," she smiled, hoping to brush past her previous disaster of a sentence, "I was just calling you to take out the trash."

Scott, being the amazing son that he is, took out the trash bag with a simple "No problem Mom." As he walked out the back door, his strong nose crinkling at the garbage stench, Melissa went to the window to test her hypothesis.

You see, Melissa had a plan. The next-door neighbors had a cat that liked to wander around their yard. Naturally, Melissa had a million questions concerning the extent of her son's werewolf abilities, but she wasn't quite ready to ask them all, especially ones that seemed silly such as this. Seeing the cat outside, she thought it was as good a time as any to see how the feline reacted to Scott's canine aspects.

When Scott reached the dumpster his head tipped up, nose catching the scent of the cat sitting on the fence behind him. He turned around slowly, and the cat froze. They stared at each other for a few seconds as if locked in a standstill. Suddenly, the cat raised its hair and hissed, backing away from the teen. Scott let out a tiny growl and smirked as the cat fled back into its own yard. He watched it go then shook his head as if clearing it before turning to head back inside.

As she watched the interaction, the thought occurred to Melissa that she was a terrible mother. Alright, maybe not terrible, but certainly not good. She'd been avoiding her son for two whole weeks now! Seeing how casual his encounter with the cat was made it clear that the wolf was a part of him. Melissa decided that, like it or not, her son wasn't completely human anymore, and that wasn't about to change anytime soon. They couldn't live in this tension and fear of each other any longer, and the best way she could help was by understanding him the best she could.

When Scott returned inside, he was surprised to find his mom waiting to give him a hug. She took him into her arms and held her closer than she had in a long while, and Scott grasped her back after his initially shocked reaction.

"I love you," his mother whispered gently into the embrace, "and I'm ready to talk. I've got a lot of questions about this whole werewolf thing."

At the word 'werewolf', Scott flinched, but then he leaned his mother's embrace and relaxed his shoulders. The tension that had been pushing them apart the last couple weeks vanished and Melissa knew that her son needed her just as much now as he did before their lives got so crazy. Before the bite, before the late shifts, before the divorce. Scott was still Melissa's little boy, and she was not about to let him slip out of her fingers. She would hold him tight like she was now and try, best she could, to adjust to their new normal.

Sooooo yeah! 1st chapter is up! I'm not sure how often I'll update, but I'll post whenever inspiration strikes. Any and all constructive criticism is welcome! Also, let me know if the characters are too OoC, because I felt like Melissa was a little too sappy while writing this. Also, let me know if you want some chapters in Scott's POV.
