Chapter 7
Luna spends her time at Moaning Myrtle's bathroom. She often spends her time here so Myrtle is not hysterical when she sees her. Instead, she just hovered over her and looked at her curiously.
"I'm fine, Myrtle, truly," Luna said in a husky voice.
"You're crying," Myrtle pointed out.
Luna smiled a little. "I am," she replied quietly. "But I'll be fine if I'm alone."
Myrtle scowled and Luna knows it's not a good sign.
"You are kicking me out from my own bathroom!" Myrtle shirked before flying away while screaming a top her lungs.
Luna sighed. She just needed some time alone, in peace. And the first place that comes to her mind is this bathroom. Actually the other place she thought of was the Forbidden Forest, but it was too late to change her mind.
She leaned her back against the cold bathroom wall and closed her eyes. The incident a few moments ago back playing in her head. She doesn't understand why people are mean to her? What she has done so they treat her like this? Is being different is a crime? She will never understand them.
She doesn't need to be accepted by them, she just wants a little respect, is it too much to ask?
She closed her eyes tighter to hold back her tears that threatened to flow from her eyes. But if she remembers that portrait is the only memory she has about her mother, her heart feels ache again. She has no other pictures of her mother, that's all that's left, and now it's gone.
And the first time in her life after the death of her mother she cried. She promises that she will be strong for herself and her father, but she is not as strong as what she thinks. It made her feel worse.
Draco lost his words; he couldn't find a nasty remark for her. He was too stunned. He didn't know that Luna's mother had died. He became panic when everyone looked at him with disdain and whispered to each other. He didn't do anything wrong, he didn't ask for the portrait in the first place. He turned his face toward the Ravenclaw table and glared at the girl who makes him stuck in trouble, but she looked away.
Draco is too occupied and not sees his rival walking towards him. He was aware of Potter's presence when Potter's fist landed hard on his jaw and knocked him back. He growled in agony and looked up, glaring at him, "What the fuck, Potter?"
"You deserve it, you piece of shit!" Potter barked at him, looking very angry. "I hope you're happy to have ruined other people's memories."
"Who the fuck cares with the shitty portrait," Draco yelled, unable to stop his own mouth. He fucked up even more!
"Fucking git," Potter said through clenched teeth, his face flushed with anger. Potter grabbed his collar roughly and pulled him to his feet.
"Get your hands off me, you're an orphan," Draco snarled pushing Potter away. Suddenly, Potter swung his fist, this time landed right in his right eye, and another blow on his stomach. And Draco thinks he might die.
"Harry, Harry, stop it, he's not worth it." He heard Weasley say.
"He's worth every single blow, Ron," Harry growled.
"Forget about him, let's find Luna," Ginny said. "She'll need us."
Potter is just silent and doesn't respond, he glares at him before turning on him heels, leaving him.
Lysander and Scorpius watched without saying a word. They don't know how to act, too confused to act. But the conclusion they get is that their father is a jerk, they will not dismiss him, most Malfoy are jerk, it flows in their blood.
Scorpius sees that Crabbe and Goyle rushed over on their father and helped him to his feet. But as they guessed, he was too proud, so he pushed his 'friends' roughly.
"Let go of me!" He barked at them. "What are you looking at, Goyle? Bring my bag," he snapped and walked out as if nothing had happened.
After their father left the Great Hall, people were still silent, mostly of them. They just muttered to each other and whispered, obviously talking about the previous incident; it would be hot news all day.
After the class has finished, Scorpius heads to the Court Yard, looking for his brothers. During his journey to the Court Yard he will look around carefully, looking for two familiar faces he doesn't see after breakfast.
His father and mother disappeared mysteriously, he saw their friends at lunch, but he didn't find any of them. Maybe they were hiding, too shaken maybe? He didn't know, but he wondered what happened to them.
When he arrived at the Court Yard he found his brothers chatting under a tree. Lysander leaned against a large tree trunk while Lorcan sat on the bench.
"They're not here then," Scorpius muttered as he looked around.
"I haven't seen them yet," Lorcan said.
"He skips Potions and DADA," said Scorpius. "Those are his favorite."
"Maybe he was too embarrassed, he got beaten by three person today," Lysander said, grinning. "If I remember that again, that's pretty ridiculous."
Scorpius grinned. "Serve him right."
"I wish I was there," Lorcan muttered.
"Too bad you missed it," Lysander said. "So how's the tutor session?"
Lorcan shrugged his shoulders. "He's not so bad; he's just easily distracted so he forgets the right composition and sequence. I can't change that, only he can," he said, shaking his head.
"You have to say that to Snape," Scorpius said with a small laugh.
"Like he'll listen to me," Lorcan rolled his eyes.
Scorpius and Lysander chuckled, but abruptly stopped when the troubled girl entered the Court Yard. She laughs with her fellow Ravenclaw, doesn't even care that she is the cause of the problem.
"Bitch," Lysander muttered hotly.
"How could she behave as if nothing happened?" Scorpius asks in surprise, he expects her to feel guilty just a little, but no, she actually looks happy and cheerful.
Lysander pushed himself from the tree trunk and approached Brocklehurst. Without the need to tell Scorpius had known what Lysander was going to do, so just follow him with Lorcan trailing behind him.
"You look happy today, Brocklehurst," Lysander said, taunting with a grin.
Brocklehurst frowned. "What do you want? You seem to be obsessed with me." She tried to sound tough, but Scorpius didn't miss the terror on her voice, it made him smile with amusement.
"Oh, no, I just wanted to say that you've made a great drama this morning. It was you who took a portrait of Lovegood's mother last night and gave it to Malfoy for Malfoy revenge?" Lysander says, pretend to amused.
Brocklehurst's friends gasp and look at her. She opened and closed her mouth, trying to defend herself.
Lysander grinned. "Just so you know she even bothered to sneak like a thief to give us a marvelous drama."
"No!" Brocklehurst shouted. "That is not me! He is lying!"
"Why would I bother to lie? Soon or later Malfoy will find you and the truth will come out, he's no fool, honey, he'll take revenge on you," Lysander said with a dramatic sigh.
Lorcan bit his tongue, hold back his laughter.
"Why did you do that, Mandy? What has Luna done to you?" The girl with the oriental face (not Cho) asked.
"She did that so she could go on a date with Draco Malfoy on the Hogsmeade this weekend. She's a real bitch, right girls? But too bad she will not get laid from Malfoy."
Scorpius and Lorcan bark a laugh, making Brocklehurst aware of their presence and blushing in embarrassment.
"Girls, you have to get away from her, she's bad news," Lysander says. He sounds like those guys who care about the latest gossip and the latest lipstick colours.
The girls whisper to each other and stare at Brocklehurst in disgust before they leave without saying a word. But surely they will gossip after arriving in the common room. Once the girls leave, Lysander's face changes drastically, he looks scary. "It was nothing. Bet Malfoy will treat you much worse, he might just curse you now. "
Brocklehurst didn't say anything, but it was obvious she looked horrified. Her face was getting flushed and her eyes filled with tears
"Better we go, she starts using her tears against us," Scorpius said as he shoved his hands into his pockets.
"Nasty drama queen," Lorcan sneered as he passed her.
Scorpius almost laughed out loud, considering he's also a queen drama.
In the middle of the night, Luna can't fall asleep. She feels nervous; usually looking at her mother's portrait always makes her feel better. But since the portrait has been destroyed she has no idea how to overcome her anxiety. So she decided to sneak out of the dorm and head for the Astronomy Tower.
As long as she makes her way to the Astronomy Tower she tries not to make a sound at all. Not just to avoid Flith and Mrs. Noris, but also the sleeping paintings. They will become very grumpy when their sleep is disturbed.
For a moment she had reached the Astronomy Tower, she sat silently as she tightened his mother's brown cardigan, a bit loosens on her body but at least it could help her. She looked up and frowned with disappointment as the moon chose to hide behind the dark clouds, but she could still see the light.
The next morning she will face everyone, she will no longer hide. Besides, she knows she made Ginny and Harry worried. She has seen them pacing around looking for her, but she chooses to hide and return to the common room when everyone has dinner.
Talking about dinner, she has not eaten anything today, just a chocolate frog and an apple that she get from the house elf. Maybe she can get something in the kitchen; the house elves are very kind to her after all.
As she stood up, she heard footsteps coming up the stairs. Her eyes grow and she starts to panic. What if it's Flich? Or worse Professor Snape. She will pay dearly for wandering after the curfew.
Her body stiffened as the footsteps getting closer, she pressed her back against the wall and stared at the door with aniexty. There is no place to hide. She has no choice but to reveal herself.
As the door opened, her body tightened even more as she saw the last person she wanted to see, Draco Malfoy.
"Draco Malfoy," she muttered emotionlessly in her voice.
Draco was shocked to find the person he most avoided staring at him, apparently as shocked as he was.
"Oh, it's you," the words slid out without him planning. He couldn't sleep because of the guilt that haunted him. He regrets what he did and it bothered him. And to make it worse, he can't get rid of her from her mind, especially when she's crying with what he does during the breakfast; he feels he cannot forgive himself. He hates to admit it, but he searches for her all day just to see if she's okay, and the fact that he doesn't see her all day after breakfast, he thinks he deserves to rot in hell.
"What are you doing hanging around after the curfew?" She asks, she looks a bit more relaxed.
"I could ask you the same thing," he said as he closed the door behind him. They both stood awkwardly, none of them intend to do anything. Even Draco doesn't know what to do, should he go or should he stay, that is a very hard decision.
Suddenly she cleared her throat gently. "I'll leave then," she said softly, straightening her cardigan.
"No need, I'll go, you're here first," he said, trying to sound tough. But damnation, he's nervous; he never gets nervous when facing a woman, not even when he gets his first kiss.
"I plan to leave before you come," she responded as she stepped toward the door.
When she was very close to her reach-he didn't know what possessed him-he grabbed her arm and muttered, "Stay."
What the hell is he doing?!
She looked at him and jerked her arm out of his grip. "No," she said coldly. "What would you do if I stay? Taunting me? Taunting my parents? Or do you just want to laugh with what you've done?" Her tone was very quiet, but it was like a dagger stabbed his chest. Especially when he's never seen Luna Lovegood upset, that's pretty horrible.
"I'm sorry." He finally saidy the words he never said to anyone, Draco Malfoy never said 'sorry', not even when he was obviously wrong. But this time he felt he had to apologize, he had destroyed the only memory of the person she loved.
He raised his eyes and looked into her blue eyes; she looked at him in surprise, as if he had just said that he wanted to be friends with Potter and his minions.
"I know what I'm doing is wrong, and I'm sorry, I'm really sorry," he said genuinely. He clutching her arm again, hoping she would forgive him. But apparently she doesn't intend to forgive him, so he intends to surrender.
She suddenly smiles at him and he holds her breath. "How kind of you," she said, this time a softer tone. "I forgive you." She smiled at him.
When Draco wants to smile back with his awkward one, she suddenly wraps her arms around his neck and hugs him tightly. He's confused with what he should do, so he just returns her embrace with his arms wrapped around her waist. He felt the safety and comfort in her arms.
