Izuku made his way through U.A's campus with the Support Department as his destination. He and Mei had a date to see a hero exhibit at a local museum. Unfortunately the time for their meetup had long passed; he was frustrated with this happening again, but more worried at the state she was likely in. The most likely reason was that Mei had overworked herself once again, and had stayed up for days at at time. He was also worried she may have hurt herself constructing one of her babies.
With the department in sight he sped up his pace towards Poweloader's lab. That was her most likely location. If Mei wasn't there he hoped it meant she was sleeping in her dorm. Reaching the big metal doors of the Development Studio; Izuku knocked twice and then let himself in.
"Hatsume! You working in here?" Navigating around the various projects Izuku kept calling out for his girlfriend. "Hatsume?" Normally he would have responded to him by now. If she wasn't here Izuku hoped she had returned to her dorm, and not fallen asleep anywhere in here.
Just as he was about to give up a noise from above him caught his attention. Mei was suddenly in his face and upside down. "Midoriya! What are you doing here?"
"C-came to see you of course." Once Izuku had adjusted to the invasion of his personal space; he took in Mei's appearance. There were heavy bags under her eyes, her normally pink hair was matted with grease, the tank top she wore had a number of stains and burns, and finally she reeked. Despite everything he was glad to see her. "Hatsume how long have you been cooped up in here?"
"No more than a couple days. I didn't have too many things to work on this time around. Probably could have spaced them out, but we have that date at the museum so I wanted to finish them so I could enjoy it with you. Oh! You have to check this baby out Midoriya; it's damn good if I do say so myself." So into her explanation Mei missed the grimace that flashed on Izuku's face.
"Enough about that though. Midoriya look at you; a dress shirt and tie, and it looks like you even got the tie right for once. Did you get someone to help you with that?" Izuku wouldn't admit it but she was right; he had gotten Iida to tie his tie. "Looks like you were trying to impress me or something.
"I was." Izuku could tell by the way he responded that Mei had finally caught on that something was wrong. He watched as she dropped down to properly face him.
Mei gave him another once over. Eyes widening as she finally pieced it together. "Midoriya...what day is it?"
Izuku could tell by her voice she already knew the answer, but she needed to hear it from him. "It's Saturday."
Tears were beginning to form in her eyes. "I...I did it again. I completely forgot about one of our dates. I am so sorry Midoriya." She let out a surprised gasp as Izuku pulled her into a tight hug.
"It's ok Hatsume. I'm not mad." That was the truth. While he was walking back to U.A Izuku had already decided to forgive his girlfriend. He really only wanted to check in on her; make sure she was ok.
For Mei though this was the last thing she wanted to hear. Breaking free of his hug she could only question her boyfriend's sanity. "How on earth are you not mad? This has got to be the fourth date I missed in the last two months. You should be furious with me!"
"Do you want to know why I am not furious with you?" Mei could only nod in response to Izuku's question; unable to trust her own voice at the moment. "Because when I accepted your first offer to go out I knew I'd never be the main priority in your life. That your babies and future career would likely be above me."
Mei couldn't believe what she was hearing. "And you're ok with that? Jeez I knew I was gonna suck at being in a relationship, but I never thought I'd be this bad of a girlfriend."
"Hatsume if that makes you a terrible girlfriend then I'm a pretty terrible boyfriend too."
"What? No. You're so much better than me at this. Besides how does me forgetting about our dates make you a bad boyfriend." Izuku's logic had confused her in the past, but this line of logic was a whole new level to Mei.
"You're right that doesn't make me a bad boyfriend. This does though; Hatsume how many times have I canceled on you because I worked myself too hard and I needed to rest."
"Uh...I don't know twice? I don't really see where you're going with this Midoriya."
"Seven times. I've had to cancel plans with you seven times." The look of confusion on her face told him she still didn't get what he was trying to say. "My point is just like you are dedicated to being an inventor; I am determined to be the best hero I can be. That's something we both share. We both want to be the very best in our fields. It is also what I like about you." Izuku once again pulled Mei into a hug; only this time she returned it. She even buried her head in the crook of his neck.
"I don't think it's quite the same Midoriya, but I get your point. I still feel terrible though. Weren't you really looking forward to that exhibit?" Though it was muffled Izuku still heard her.
"I was, but we can always go next weekend." Izuku had actually seen this exhibit the last time it came through Musutafu. The reason he had wanted to see it was because he remembered they had an interesting section on the first support devices.
She looked him in the eye and smiled. "Alright. Still need to make it up to you though. Oh I know; how about I make you dinner again?"
Izuku blanched at the idea. While Mei was fairly skilled in the kitchen; her idea of food was practical over anything else.
"T-that's not necessary. Really all I want you to do for me is to take a bath and get some sleep. I'll be honest Hatsume you look worse than usual."
"Like I said I was working overtime so I could enjoy our date. Thats it though? I was going to do those things regardless. So it doesn't seem like I'm making up for anything..." Izuku felt a shiver go down his spine when her smile widened and her arms tightened around him. "What do you think about joining me for that bath. You know, make sure I get nice and clean?" The last part she said right into his ear.
Izuku blushed harder than he ever had at the thought. He tried to break the hug but Mei was surprisingly tough and wouldn't let go. "H-hatsume I-I can't do that. I-I'm not ready for that!"
Mei's laugh made him stop struggling. "Calm down Muscles. I was kidding." Izuku let out another sigh. Mei didn't tease him often, but when she did it was particularly effective.
"That was a good one Hatsume. I think I'll leave you to it now though." They broke the hug and Izuku turned to leave when he felt Hatsume grab his sleeve.
"You know I hate leaving projects unfinished, and I still have about a day's work left to do here. There's a good chance I'll wake up and be back here working. I'll probably need someone to make sure I stay asleep the whole night. So if you're alright with it could I stay with you tonight?"
Izuku wasn't about to fall for the same joke though. "Hatsume it's not good to keep joking about this kind of stuff."
"I'm being serious." Turning to face her again; Izuku saw that she really was serious. "My dorm is practically a second workshop If I want any chance of sleeping through the night I need to be away from it all. Besides I feel so comfortable in your room I know it will work. Midoriya please...let me do this."
Izuku was torn about what to do. He wasn't completely comfortable with her plan, but he could tell she needed this. "O-ok but what about your dorm won't it be suspicious if you aren't there after curfew?"
"They would be if Powerloader hadn't got me permission to visit the workshop whenever I wanted. It's just accepted if I'm not in my room I'm here and vice versa." Powerloader would be mad she was abusing her permission like this; but what he didn't know won't hurt him.
"How will you get into my room though? My classmates will notice if you visit but never leave."
Mei gave Izuku's cheek a light kiss. "Don't worry I have an idea. Now get going. I have a bath to take...that is unless you really do want to join me." Mei's laugh followed Izuku as he sprinted out of the studio.
Mei was glad Izuku was on the second floor since it made it easy to climb up to his veranda. She didn't even need one of her babies; just a regular old grappling hook. She made a note to make a grappling hook baby later though. Mei was grateful that Izuku had apparently forgotten to lock the sliding door; she really didn't want to wait outside for her boyfriend after all.
Stepping into his room she could only admire all of his All Might merchandise. This wasn't her first time in here; they actually hung out in his room fairly often all things considered. This was the first time she had been in it by herself though. The only thing she felt her boyfriend liked more than All Might was probably quirks. He was practically a encyclopedia about different quirks. Izuku had several notebooks on his desk full of different observations on them. His knowledge had been invaluable to her on many occasions. Mei decided that reading through them would be a great way to pass the time; she laid down on his bed and began to flip though one of the notebooks.
It came as no surprise to her that Izuku's bed smelled of him, but how comforting it was to her did. Mei had overheard a few people comment how, because of his green hair, they thought he should smell of mint or grass. They couldn't be more wrong about his scent. Because of how much he worked out Izuku had a more musky natural scent. It made her feel safe, and was part of the reason why she knew she'd sleep well with him around.
A couple hours passed when Mei finally heard the door open, and she looked up from the notebook and saw Izuku gapping at her. "Hatsume...how did you get in here? I was waiting downstairs for you; I thought you might have gone to bed back in your dorm."
"Scaled the building of course. No one sees me come in and no one sees me leave." Izuku could only palm his face at her logic. He was sure someone saw her, but knowing how infamous she was on campus they probably just looked the other way. "Now get over here; time for bed." As Mei said this she slipped under his comforter.
Izuku was glad he kind of expected Mei to do something like this. He had already brushed his teeth and changed into his sleeping clothes. Walking over to his bed he turned his lights off and slid under the covers with Mei.
The two of them were on opposite sides of his bed. Izuku was unsure about what to do next. Should they just stay like this? Should he get closer to her? Could he even fall asleep like this? All these thoughts were running through his head. "Hey Midoriya you look pretty uncomfortable on the edge of the bed. I won't bite so come closer; this is your bed after all get comfy."
He did as she asked but still left some room between the two. Izuku almost lept out of his bed when he felt Mei put her head on his chest, and her arm around his torso. "You're heart is beating so loud Midoriya. It's almost loud enough to drown out my own."
Izuku swallowed the lump in his throat before responding. "So you're just as nervous as me?"
"Of course I am. More nervous than I was when I first asked you out." In an attempt to calm both their nerves Izuku put his left hand over the one on his stomach.
Mei smiled at his attempt to help the two of them relax. "Despite being up for three straight days I don't really feel tired. So how about we just stay up and talk until we both fall asleep?"
Izuku liked that idea; so the two of them spent the next couple hours discussing random topics. The two finally had enough around two in the morning and started to fall asleep. Before she could pass out Mei had one last thing to tell Izuku. "Midoriya I know it must be tough putting up with me, but I hope you know I appreciate it. I don't know what I did to deserve someone as patient as you."
"I know you have trouble expressing it, but I know you care Hatsume. You make me happy and that is enough." The two then fell asleep in each others arms content.
Sundays for the students of 1-A followed a simple routine. Everyone had their morning routines; whether that be working out, jogging, or finishing whatever homework that was left. Once that was done Satou had a delicious brunch waiting for them. While not everyone in 1-A attended the meal; Izuku was usually one of the first there so his absence was noticed. The first to pick up on it was Ochako. "Hey has anyone seen Deku today?"
"We usually cross paths when I'm out doing my morning run, but now that you mention it I have yet to see him." Came Iida's robotic response. He then rushed over to the dorm's entrance. "His shoes are still here so he is in the dorm. Sleeping in is very unlike Midoriya though."
A murmur of agreement went through the group. It was Mineta that spoke up next. "Well I'm heading back up to my room; so if you all want I can check up on him." Hopping down from his seat Mineta made his way to the elevators.
Mineta knocked on Izuku's doors a few times and got no response. He then checked the door knob and found it unlocked. "Huh why would he forget to lock his door? Well might as well poke my head in and see if he's up." Nothing would have prepared Mineta for what he saw once he opened Izuku's door.
What Izuku hadn't known about Mei was that she tossed and turned as she slept. While they slept she had managed to pull him on top of her; she also had positioned his head right between her chest. Swallowing his jealousy Mineta slowly tip toed over to Izuku's bed. Poking him in the side he tried to wake up the sleeping boy. "Pst Midoriya...C'mon man wake up." After a few more pokes he saw Izuku begin to wake up.
"M-Mineta? What are you doing in my room?" Having just woken up Izuku hadn't realized the position he was in yet.
"I'll explain out in the hall. I'll give you a minute to untangle yourself." With that he rushed out of Izuku's room. Seeing his friend speed out of the room was all it took to make Izuku remember who else was in his bed. Eyes widening Izuku did his best to not wake up Mei as he rushed to meet Mineta outside.
Taking care to not slam his door; Izuku saw Mineta leaning on the wall typing a message out on his phone. "Mineta I know what that looked like, but you have to believe me it's not what you think. Please don't tell anyone about it." Izuku was desperate to get the smaller boy to understand.
"I believe you, and I wasn't telling them about that." Mineta saw Izuku's dumbfounded look and sighed. "A few of the others noticed you missed Satou's brunch and were concerned. I was going back to my room and told them I would check on you. That message I just sent was letting them know you're ok. Didn't want anyone else coming up here and misunderstanding what you two were doing."
"Really just like that you believe me?" Izuku was shocked. He thought Mineta would have freaked considering the compromising position they were in.
"Look Midoriya I'll be honest with you. I felt bad a while back when we all interrogated you, and Ashido spent a week trying to pry information out of you. That all happened because I jumped to conclusions. I don't know why she spent the night but it was pretty clear all you two did was sleep. You're one of the few people willing to be my friend so I don't want to screw that up. Besides I was up late last night; so unless you two are the quietest lovers in the world I'm sure I would have heard you two getting it on."
Izuku was humbled by Mineta's answer. "Thanks for being a good friend Mineta."
"Don't mention it dude. Seriously; I have an image to uphold. Now let's go downstairs; you can show everyone you're good, get some food, beg off saying your still tired, and then return to Hatsume's side before she wakes up." Izuku nodded at Mineta's idea and the two went to the elevator to join the rest of their classmates.
"There you are Deku! What was holding you up?"
"Oh hey Uraraka. Yesterday Hatsume missed our date; we stayed up talking things out I guess." Izuku didn't want to lie to his friends, but hopefully they bought the half truth of why he was up late.
"Midoriya while it is goo that you and Hatsume worked things out; staying up like that is detrimental for one's health. Be sure to not make a habit out of it." Izuku thanked Iida for the concern, and took a seat at one of the tables in the common room.
"Give him a break Iida. He hardly gets any quality time with her during the week. The guy can do what he wants with his girlfriend on the weekends." Mineta's defense got a laugh from those around, and a stern glare from their class president.
Izuku accepted a plate of food from Satou, and made small talk with everyone. After a while he felt that he had been away long enough. Right as he was about to excuse himself; he saw Mineta's face go pale. Then he heard someone gasp. Turning to see what was causing this reaction; he saw Mei leaving the elevators. She was wrapped in his All Might blanket, and was heading right for him.
"Midoriya I thought you promised to make sure I got a good night's sleep. How can you do that if you aren't in bed with me?" Panic was filling Izuku as Mei created all kinds of misunderstandings. She made it over to where he was seated; then seated herself into his lap. Instinctively he wrapped his arms around her as she tried to get comfortable. "I missed you Midoriya. Won't you take me back to your bed?" Then as quickly as she came she was gone once again; this time falling asleep right away.
Daring to look up; Izuku wanted to gauge his classmates reactions.
Ochako was laughing so hard at his predicament she was crying. Izuku didn't blame her. He could appreciate just how funny this must look.
Mineta was shaking his head. After going out of his way to prevent a misunderstanding one still happened.
Mina and Tooru were whispering to themselves. Judging by the hand gestures Mina was making Izuku was sure another interrogation was coming his way.
Finally he looked to Iida. His face was red; whether from embarrassment or rage Izuku wasn't sure. All Izuku knew was that he had a class three lecture coming his way.
"MIDORI-Mmph" Then out of nowhere one of Mineta's pop offs covered Iida's mouth. Several more landed on his feet as well as Mina and Tooru's feet.
"GO! Make a break for it Midoriya! I don't know how long I can hold them in place." Izuku was totally confused by what his friend was doing. He wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth though. Iida's lectures could go on forever sometimes. Cradling Mei in his arms he got up and made a break for his room. Being careful not to jostle her too much as he did so.
Once they were back in the safety of his room Izuku let out the breath he was holding. He made sure to lock his door and to pull his curtains back. This was only going to add to the misunderstanding but Izuku didn't care. Mei made him happy, and he could deal with everything his friends were going to put him through with her by his side. He just hoped she woke up in time to give him a hand with everyone.
AN: Thanks for reading. Of my original one shots (Good View, Interrogating, and Studying) this was by and large the most popular of them. I value every view, follow, and favorite this fic has gotten. I could tell people wanted more IzuMei and I was happy to provide. This ship has become my second favorite after IzuMina and I want to do more for it. There might be a third chapter for this but I really don't know right now. Have other things I want to work on before that.
