-Midoriya POV~
The half an hour break was up. Walking outside to stand in the ring. Looking at my opponent, I saw a tired look that can be the successor to my homeroom teacher. He held a smirk on his face, given that he was part of my classmates' team during the Calvary Battle, I knew better to get this match over with. Ojiro's advice truly came in handy.
"Nice quirk. Mind sharing how you did it?"
I held a scowl. My stance was ready, mimicking my girlfriend's art. She always thought ahead. My left hand was an open palm while my right was a closed fist.
"Let the first match...begin!" I heard Midnight announces before my feet took charge at the purple-haired guy. My quirk flared into Full Cowling 5%. The first blow was mine but the second hit gave me first blood.
Throwing combination after combination. Ignoring the desperate yells from my opponent, I began to indulge myself before suddenly I heard him whimper. My fist stopped in front of me, knuckles bled but not from me. My scowl was almost gone as I looked at the fearful face on his face.
"Please...stop..." he begged me. I backed away.
What the hell was that? Did I do that?
"I...uh..." my words were caught in my throat. As soon as I spoke, I saw him smirk. Soon my quirk deactivated and my arms dropped to my sides. I had no control over my actions.
"Leave the ring." He commanded and my body did it.
Move! Goddamn it! I was too careless! Stop! Stop moving!
My feet's stepped slow and with each passing second my dread grew. Looking over to the edge, a shadowy figure made an appearance. It was hazy.
As soon as I touch the figure, it engulfed my entire body. Fear took over, for a second I didn't care about the festival or even the match. I just wanted to go to her. More than ever. She was my drug, the one person to keep me away from my suffering.
"Then allow me to relieve you of this mind control."
My mind went blank, for whatever happened next, I welcomed it.
Third Person POV~
Shinso was beyond elated. He saw victory only steps away. His grin was wide and victorious. The taste of winning was just moments away from his grasp.
That is until he saw Izuku stopped just before the edge of the ring.
"What...?" Shinso asks himself, did the boy gained control? No, it should work! As much as he wanted to deny it, he could feel the suddenly immense feeling of fear hit him. His whole body screamed at him to run out of the ring but he wasn't sure why.
When Izuku turned his head sideways to looked at Shinso, that was when the brainwashing-user truly felt petrified. That wasn't the same annoyed scowl he saw moments before, no it was a detached stare.
His whole body slowly turned. His stare had only intensified with detachment. Shinso collapsed to his knees, scared shitless of what's to come.
The brainwashing-user didn't even realize that Izuku walked over to him. He looked up to find those same eyes piercing down back.
"H-How..." Shinso stutters but Izuku didn't let him finish. Pulling up by the collar, the teen merely stared at the shaken guy.
Izuku started to infuse his quirk throughout his entire body again before spinning himself and Shinso. Building up the momentum and speed, he eventually let go, tossing Shinso outside the ring.
There was a mere moment of silence before Midnight announces Izuku's victory. The audience cheered as Izuku walks back inside the arena, not giving anyone his attention.
Instead of heading upstairs to where his classmates were, he went into one of the waiting room. After locking the door, Izuku lost his blank face before falling down on his knees. His head was now starting to sweat, he was scared.
Not scared that he didn't seemed to care for his opponent's wellbeing but merely the fact that he was starting to enjoy himself. Izuku was glad he learned to keep his poker face strong otherwise, the sickly-sweat grin plastered on his face right now would be shown to the entire world on live television.
He lost track of time. His mind racing for what seemed like hours. With nothing but short gasp and rising chest, his labored breathes were all he heard. That is until the announcement called for his name again.
His second match, this time it was with Todoroki. Soon his body started to calm down. Getting up off the floor, Izuku merely waited a moment before unlocking and opening the door. As he walked out the hall, he was about to go out before a rough hand clasp onto his shoulder.
Turning his head to the side and up, he met the number two hero: Endeavor.
"You seemed rather talented boy, I will give you that much. But you don't stand in comparison to Shoto." His rough voice echoed in his ears. Izuku looked away, the number two hero was right in many ways.
Izuku shook his head and shrugged off the man's hand.
"So what? You're here to discourage me?" Izuku's more bold attitude came off in a more disrespectful manner.
"Well get off my back, your not my dad and you sure as hell don't act like Shoto's. Ya fucking loser." Izuku walked forward. He was immediately slammed against the wall before a hot palm was against his face.
"Watch your tone boy. I ain't in a mood for any disrespect."
"Ya well, I don't respect assholes like you. Torturing their spouses, only using them as breeding cattle. Or even the fact that you put your "perfect" result through so much misery and punishment. You may be a hero to the eyes of the public but I know...oh I know." Izuku states darkly. His own quirk ignited.
"Your no father and you sure as hell ain't a goddamn man! Just some sore loser who put all of his anger into a boy who didn't deserve any of it." Izuku grabs the big hand with both of his arms and peels it off of him. His uniform carrying a burnt handprint that was starting to burn a bit.
During this whole ranting, Endeavor felt so angered. This child knew?! Did Shoto tell him?! Why? As far as he's seen, his own son and this teen are not even friends.
Once he felt his hand grabbed, all of that anger was put into his other fist. In a split moment, he had struck the teen square in the face. Izuku took it while still standing but he would be lying if he didn't feel like passing out right now.
"Like you know anything brat. I was going to commend you for your progression but it seems we don't have any time for that don't we."
"No..." Izuku spits out some blood. "No, we don't."
"Get out of my sight." Endeavor orders. Izuku flips him.
"Don't have to tell me shit stain."
As Izuku walks out he heard a distant grunt before being welcomed by cheers and claps. As he walks up to the stage, he trips on the top step before face-planting against the ground. Oh, the crowd got a good laugh out of that.
'Welp, at least I am humorous.' Izuku thought as he pushed himself up and walks somewhat wobbly towards his opponent. Shoto who already got a good look at the state Izuku was in. His anger for the teen quickly disappeared into mild concern.
"Midoriya are you?"
"You know, that guy is a real asshole."
Taken back by the explicit language, he saw Izuku looks directly back into his eyes. They held pity.
"Listen Shoto, you don't have to worry about me winning the match."
"What do you mean?" He couldn't possibly be thinking.
"Ready? Fight~"
"MIDNIGHT!" Izuku shouted directly at his teacher which got the woman by surprise.
"I forfeit." Izuku admitted before turning back around.
"Izuku Midoriya forfeits! Shoto Todoroki wins by default."
Shoto couldn't believe what his classmate just did.
As Izuku walks off the stage he found himself smiling. He was going to keep his promise to his girlfriend. No matter what it takes.
Oh, he just wanted to sit down and enjoy the rest of the sports festival. Looking up the hero viewing seats. He nodded to All Might subtly. He needed to talk to his mentor.
Once inside the building, Izuku takes out his phone from the locker room and sends a text to his girlfriend. Letting her know he's okay but nothing life-threatening.
Then he sends a text to All Might. To meet him by one of the men's changing rooms.
After several minutes, All Might showed up in his buff form before deflating into his weak form.
"Young man. You called? Something about an urgent meeting. What's the matter?" Truthfully, All Might was concern for the boy. He wasn't acting like himself, over the growing weeks since USJ, his student was becoming more and more distant. He didn't have that same enthusiasm and hoping atmosphere about him. Don't mistake All Might, Izuku was working hard, hell even harder than what the number one hero expected. It was nothing compared to the ten-month training regimen.
"Yes All Might, I need to talk to you." Izuku said in a serious manner before plucking out a piece of his hair. All Might was confused but felt worried.
"You need to find another successor." Izuku states with solemn in his voice.
"Young man. What's going on? Is there something bothering you?"
"Yes, but it's only made me realize that I am a poor example to be the Symbol of Peace. You saw me today, how I performed. I wouldn't call my actions heroic." Izuku admitted. He was wasting time, eventually one of his classmates would go to find him.
"Young man, one setback in your development doesn't mean you should give up the power~"
"I enjoyed it..." Izuku cut All Might off.
There was a puzzled look on the man's face.
"When I was fighting Shinso, I was enjoying it, beating him. Making him scared out of his pants. Over the last three weeks, it made me realize how much I saw myself. This power...it shouldn't belong to me. A kid like me, who knows absolutely about responsibility and sacrifice. I may have the hero's instinct but I don't have the genuine heart for heroism. So please take back your power." Izuku said walking forward.
"Please young man, I know you are confused and worried but I chose you because I had faith you would surpass me. Be a better Symbol of Peace than I could ever be."
"Touching words, but it's too late All Might." Izuku used his Full Cowling and grabbed his hero and force-fed him his hair.
Izuku looked around and saw the water bottle he had placed. Grabbing it he busts open the cap and chugs the water down All Might's throat.
He held the hero's mouth, he made sure that the man swallowed before eventually letting go.
"Midoriya! I don't understand why you take give this power back! I am on borrowed time kid! You need this more than I do!" All Might shouted, kneeling on the floor holding his throat in disbelief.
"You helped me go so far, but all I am doing is wasting your efforts. I was too weak to stop the Nomu. I was obsessed to find a better way to fight but not for the sake of saving others but to save my own ass. Then all I did today was provoke, beat, or even walked out on the people around me. Face it All Might, I am a shit person. I don't deserve your power and if I could rewind time I would go to the point where we met briefly. Our first encounter after the sludge incident should have been our last! I am pathetic! I wasted over ten years of my life dreaming of being a hero but became a pussy to some blonde asshole who I still fucking idolize as a hero. Despite that, we are in the here and now. Nothing I can do can't change that fact. So please, find someone worthy of that power of yours. I lost my right to use it a long time ago." Izuku ranted but stopped short from the choking of his own tears and realizing how much time his idol had wasted on him. If only he had grown up ten years ago, learned to be braver when he was diagnosed quirkless. Then maybe, just maybe, he would be worthy of One for All, but maybe in another world.
Wiping his eyes and sniffing, he clears his throat to look up at his idol. They both were hurt but looking at each wouldn't help at all. Izuku saw the look of a saddened father figure. That was what he was to him. A father that Izuku never known.
All Might saw the despair in his student's eyes. It left him hollow, he wanted nothing more to tell him otherwise and explained that the boy was too stressed to think rationally. But what right did he have to say that? He wasn't Izuku's father and he wasn't his son. As much as All Might tried to muster the words, nothing came out.
Izuku dropped his head into a formal bow and walked past his idol.
Upon reaching for the doorknob. He spoke to All Might.
"I'm sorry for wasting your time on me." The apology alone made something in All Might broke.
Izuku walks out and closes the door. All Might sat down on a nearby bench and sighed sadly. "No, I am sorry for not seeing your pain earlier...Izuku."
Outside in the hallway, Izuku walked up to the staircase. He needed to go back up and sit down. The festival was still not done yet. But he couldn't muster up any positive optimism. When he reached into his pocket, he wanted to call his girlfriend but something inside not too. He just needed to be alone for now. So he abandons the plan to watch the rest of the festival and sat somewhere where he couldn't be bothered or noticed.
