"Athena"-flashback or something in the past
'Athena'-thoughts
I don't own any of the Saint Seiya series btw. :D
Despite of having a god in the Sanctuary, there's no other special events happened aside from the welcome party few days ago as per Melpomene's wish to just keep what they have been doing like she wasn't existent. However, there are some curious gold saints who can't help but stole glances to the hooded goddess. Although the curiosity about the goddess is eating them (mainly Kardia and Manigoldo) they never bothered to ask her as they rarely seen the goddess but whenever they got together, talks about her will definitely be the subject.
It was one of those mornings when Sisyphus awakened earlier than his usual and decided to run around the Sanctuary ground. Leaving his temple, he meets the young Gemini saint to his glee. The two exchange greetings and decided to run together. Out the sudden, Sisyphus asked Aspros about his thoughts to the muse.
"Lady Melpomene? She's somehow an odd goddess." Aspros answer made the Sagittarius saint puzzled and seeing his face, he decided to continue. "I have this belief that gods would rather love to have themselves known and worshipped. I'm sure even Athena wanted to be acknowledged yet she wanted to be isolated, to be ignored by us like she is just an ordinary person with no deeming trait. Like, she wasn't a goddess or doesn't like to be one."
Nodding Sisyphus also noticed it. After the party, the goddess could be hardly seen. "But I think it is just her antics. Remember what the mythology told us? Musa aren't fond of interacting with others except for their own kind. Humans or gods alike, they would prefer to be alone or to be with their sisters. Perhaps that is indeed true as Lady Melpomene seems to fancy to be on her own."
"Well it doesn't really matter to us right? After all she is a divine being that shouldn't be touched and we are just mere mortals and Athena's saints." Aspros spoke indifferently without looking at his partner. He didn't even notice that Sisyphus had stopped running.
"Shouldn't be touched eh?" The Sagittarius saint softly muttered as he remembered the Muse of Tragedy. He was not sure as to why he find the idea repulsive. "Because you wanted her touch as you wanted to be touched by her." A tiny voice whispered at the back of his mind and he was stunned. How dare he think about such thought!
"Oi Sisyphus! I'll gonna leave you behind if you keep on stalling!" Hearing Aspros, the centaur decided to disregard it and started to jog towards the Gemini.
On the other side, Melpomene who was already on her feet strolling the forest, sat down at the nearby spring to rest. By on by, while looking at her own reflection, the scene changed and showed her father's dignified form. Surprised, she was about to stand up to greet him but was stopped. "There's no need for you to bow my child. Stay as you were." Her father, the ruler of the Olympus with his golden hair shines along the reflecting sun rays and his clear blue eyes mirrors the sky calmly spoke. "Ah. It's glad to see you feeling great my daughter. Somehow it became boring when I can't see you at the Olympus."
"Blessings upon the ruler of Olympus. What might be the cause of your sudden contact?" Hearing that Zeus chuckles. "As expected of you, child of mine. Yes you got it right. There is indeed something I want you to do for me." It was always like this. Whenever he got the chance to talk with her, his daughter will just brush off his words except for his orders. Unlike her other sisters or any woman, might be in the Olympus or on earth, she never get affected or swooned by him. Whether it is such a sweet talk or a heart talk as a father, his beloved muse never batted an eye. It makes him mad and yet at the same time it makes him want her. Ah to desire a fruit of your own. Disregarding such thoughts with another quiet laughter, Zeus started to relay his will. "Melpomene my sweet child, hear me. On the North East of Mediterranean Sea, there's once a certain flourishing yet at the same time preposterous village that now was known as a country, Pompeii was its name which holds the mirror of your mother. It was her gift to the village before when they have helped her yet those people became full of themselves as they used the mirror for selfishness. People believing they finally had power of gods started to ostracize the gods. They became full of themselves to the extent that they created and worshipped a false god with their king as the vessel they said mightier than us, than me. Such blasphemy! Cast them out. Befell them the punishment on my behalf, a death appropriate for the sin they have committed against gods, against me."
Hearing her father's request, Melpomene vowed and with stern voice responded, "Yes Father. Upon your will, I shall take upon my hands to bestow them the punishment they deserve." Satisfied with the reply, Zeus bids farewell and vanished. When he is already out of her sight and knowing that his cosmo indeed disappeared, Melpomene released a small sigh. Once again, there are people who defy them, the gods that rule everything once they obtain on their hands a power resembling to theirs. Greediness, she presumes and with that she touch the surface of the water to splash it and soon enough she was on the place her father mentioned. Pompeii, unlike other place, looks very extravagant and capricious. People living here reek of malice and vice. Oh how vile this place was.
While surveying, a child caught her attention. Somehow he looks like a 13 year old boy and a Grecian. He was being bullied by 3 giant kids mouthing disgusting and abominable words for being a Greek. After the kids left, the poor child slowly got up and dusts himself. He took noticed of a figure that suddenly approaches him. A hooded person who wear a plain white cloth which upon his closer inspection was made of finest silk. That person gave him a flower and though he didn't know the person, there is something on him that made him accept the flower without hesitation. He was about to thank the hooded person but was already walked away towards the crowd leaving him astounded.
On the center of the country was a palace made of marble and gold, Melpomene appeared in the front of the king and had caused uproar. "Who are you?! How dare you come here uninvited!?" The king of Pompeii angrily shouted. All his people, his guards stood up ready to kill but she didn't care. Mere mortals will never be able to hurt her much more kill her.
"I'll give you another chance." She spoke and despite of her soft voice, it had echoed all throughout the whole chamber hall. "Ask forgiveness to the God Zeus, throw away your false god and return the mirror to the rightful place it should belong." It spoke which made the king and everyone laugh.
"Your God? Your Greek god is nothing compared to ours. I bet it can't even prove itself to us. And why would we return the mirror when we already own it? It ours." They laughed. The figure shook its head. "Then so be it. There's no hope for those who are blinded." With that she disappeared only to reappear at the top of the palace. She out stretch her hand revealing a spider lily so red like it was dipped in blood. Slowly she drops the flower and as soon it was fallen, the supposed to be dead volcano erupted, giant explosion that caused tremor on the land. People panicked as lava started to flow downward and rock descended from heaven. In the midst of the disaster not wanting to stay furthermore, Melpomene disappeared.
Pope Sage called all the gold saints as the news about the eruption at Pompeii reach the sanctuary. Questions as to why and how it happened not only plague the holy ground but all throughout the country. Sisyphus, together with other gold saints also asked the great pope wanting for a plausible answer since there are already a lot of speculations behind the tragic event.
"Could..it be a work of specters?" El Cid, the Capricorn saint voiced out.
"But to make a decade dead volcano erupt can't be done by mere specter alone." Shion commented which was agreed by Degel.
"Indeed. Such calamity can only be caused by a god."
"Perhaps it was Hades. No specters could possibly make an inactive and dead volcano to erupt." Manigoldo jested. "Rumors also said that it was done by their own god."
"Hades still not reincarnated and if its him, we should have felt his cosmo." Pope Sage who remained quiet decided to spoke. "I think you know what happened since your supposed to be next destination was there, Ilias."
At the call of his name, Ilias kneeled down and reported. "As you have said, Pompeii was my next destination however I didn't have the chance to reach it since the moment I had arrived just a border away, the tragic event occurred. However I managed to asked a witness in the form of a child together with his family who for some miracle had survived the deadly eruption." Suddenly he brought out something as he put it down the floor. The remaining gold saints went nearer to see what it is and saw it was flowers. One a lily and the other was only a red petal. Pope Sage stood up and pick the two. "What else did they tell you?"
"The child who carries the lily said that it was given to him. During the eruption, he is out of his mind on what to do but suddenly out of nowhere he heard a voice telling him to go to his family and to not worry for they will be saved. And indeed they were saved."
"Did he know who give it to him?" Asmita asked which Ilias shook his head.
"No. He was not able to recognized the person since the person was wearing a white cloth covering its face."
The Pope inspected the flowers. It holds a little amount of cosmo which he can't recognized however looking at the red petal, he instantly recognized it as one of the petals of red spider lily. With that he give a small laugh. "Ah I see."
"Your honor?"
"There's nothing to worry about it anymore. As like what Manigoldo said, it could not be specters for it was done by a God but it was not Hades."
"Then who?"
"It is I." A clear voice rang which made them jump. Out of the center of the hall, golden butterflies manifested as a hooded person emerge from nothing. "I'm sorry for the commotion I had brought out." Melpomene had arrived with her usual get up. Everyone then kneeled down and greet the goddess.
"My lady, I, pardon for this question but what do you mean with it was you?" Shion bravely asked.
Though they weren't able to see her face, they could feel the slightly upturning of the muse's lips. "It was me who brought Pompeii to its destruction." At her answer everybody was quiet. Knowing that it would take long before they could recover, Melpomene then face Pope Sage and talked. "To the great Pope, there is something I request for you to do so." She slightly raised her hands and with a sway, a mirror appeared.
"This is…." The Pope was left speechless. He know what is that mirror through numerous legends but never in his life he had expected to see it personally.
"Please keep my mother's mirror for now. Sanctuary is the only place I deemed safe so I will leave it under your care for there are things I have to do for awhile."
The Pope who was still kneeling bowed. "Yes our lady. In Athena's name, we would make sure to keep Mnemosyne's mirror safe." Hearing the answer of the Sanctuary's head, Melpomene muttered a soft "Thank you" before disappearing leaving traces of golden butterflies on where she once stood.
Although the issue had been closed, another one was brought up as the curiosity driven gold saints wondered about the mirror the Goddess of Tragedy brought. After some time, not able to contain the curiosity, with Kardia's lead, they directly asked the Pope. They all went to the room where the mirror was placed as Pope Sage explained that this mirror was one of the Goddess Mnemosyne treasured item which can show the future and connect to it. She had once given it to a village that helped her but unfortunately they had used it in a wrong way which caused their demise. They soon found out that this village was the ruined Pompeii and everything was now clear as to why the muse destroyed the country. "With that reason we must keep it and protrct it as what Lady Melpomene requested."
Sisyphus unknowingly approached the mirror and slightly touched it. Suddenly it lit up and instead of his reflection he saw a woman standing at what seems to be balcony. She had long purple hair which swaying along the night breeze and is wearing a white gown. Checking the mirror, everybody had stopped talking as they look at the mirror. Despite not knowing who the person was, they can't' help but feel an attachment to her. The scene was then changed however it was the same woman they saw earlier but now was facing them as she sat on her throne. They can clearly see that the woman was indeed beautiful with her green emerald eyes.
"What the hell? What happened? And who is that woman?" Manigoldo who is confused asked.
Like him, Pope Sage was also baffled and with utter shocked he muttered "Athena" which did not go unnoticed. All the gold saints were shocked especially Sisyphus. To think that the woman they had been seeing was Athena. "Then does it means..."
"No. Like I said this mirror shows the future so this Athena we see is the Athena from a far future." Pope Sage interrupted.
By on by a masculine voice calling "Athena" caught their attention as everyone turned their head to the mirror. There standing was a man with spiky brown hair and is wearing Pegasus cloth facing his back at them.
"Athena, everything is now in normal state. We already had the sanctuary rebuilt and the saints started to train once again."
"Thank you for your hard work Seiya." The future Athena spoke with gentleness on her voice however her eyes had a tinge of sadness on it.
"Is there something wrong Athena?"
"No." She shook her head. "You can rest now." She stood up and was about to go to her chamber when she was called.
"Saori-san..." And with that the scenario had frozen leaving that particular scene.
"Hey? What is that guy doing calling the goddess on her name?" Manigoldo commented out of the sudden but before anybody could reply, the scene once again change.
"Milo, Aiolia. This is of no importance. Mu, you too, you must understand." The same Athena spoke as she looked at her gold saints. Slowly she approaches the one wearing the Gemini cloth, and hold his dagger yielding hands.
"Why have you given this to me?" The Gemini saint asked. His voice is trembling as his body does too but even so, Athena answered him with such conviction.
"This is quite evident, Saga." She had called him. "So that you can take my life. Go ahead without hesitating. Pierce my throat. At long last, this way, you will be freed of your pain. Ah things must be this way."
"Athena… You.. You!" Hearing their goddess, Saga was filled with disbelief and shock.
"Saga" Athena called him once again. This time with gentleness. Saga looked back and his heart once again hurt. Looking at him with sad and kind eyes was their goddess as she gives a warm and understanding smile.
"No!" The Gemini saint shook his head. He did not want it. He never wanted this. But his pleas were not heard as Athena guided his hand towards her throat piercing it as he heartbreakingly shouted her name. "Athena!"
"Stop.. Stop it!" Young Aspros can't helped but scream as he run towards the mirror. "Why?! Why should Athena sacrifice herself?! They were traitors!" He blurted out as he cried. But before the future Athena fall down; the mirror was then covered with a cloth. Everyone become silent as they watch Melpomene materializes beside the mirror.
"La…Lady Melpomene!" All of them shouted like they are deer being caught on the spotlight. Without further ado, Leo Ilias and Pope Sage fall into their knees as they utter apologies on looking at the mirror without any permission.
"We are deeply sorry for such unsightly act Melpomene-sama. It was my entire fault as I am the one who brought them to this room." Pope Sage bowed too low for Melpomene's liking.
"Please stand up. I understand but once is enough. This shall not be repeated again. You had already seen too much. The future the mirror shows is different from what the Delfins could give. That's why never seek this mirror ever again." The muse explained as she eyed everyone at the room and with somehow a sad voice she asked them to leave.
All of the saints and even the pope bid their farewell as they left the room. As soon Melpomene was sure she was alone, she uncovers the mirror and there the previous scene froze, Athena within the arms of the future Gemini saint lifeless. She touched the mirror and it disappeared. Such cruel fate bequeathed upon to the owner of the gold cloth of Gemini. If possible, she doesn't want them to see it. She once again looked at the mirror and instead of her own reflection staring back at her; it was a woman with russet hair and sun colored tearful eyes that filled with blazing determination in spite of the sorrow and pain it stored. "The condemned future should not come. For the sake of their souls, for the sake of this cycle, I… I…" The woman wasn't able to finish what she was saying as the mirror ripples under the palm of the goddess. Melpomene slowly removed her hood with her other hand to reveal a long wavy tresses of earth-like chocolate hair and the same sun colored eyes of the woman. This time it was her own reflection but unlike the crying lady, it was a sad and dejected looking young goddess. "I… understand. For I am Melpomene. The harbinger of tragedy and divine punishment."
END! So that was it. What do you think? Well somehow this is quite a long chapter and perhaps you find it quite confusing due to changing scenes. I apologize for that. Even so READ and REVIEW minnaaaa. Thank you.
