Shrek's feet were hurting from all the walking. He was feeling as if he had been walking nonstop for a million years.
God, I'm suffering. But it is all for Fiona. All so I can get her back, he thought.
He glanced at the sign above him. "Far Away 700 miles" it read. Shrek groaned and he cried out, "Oh my God, I will never make it there! It will take me a whole year to get there!"
He bent over, putting his hands on his knees. He looked backward and forward, hoping to find anyone passing by him, but this was negative.
"I never should have left her in the first place. God am I an idiot," Shrek sobbed. He eventually dropped down to the ground, sobbing into his knees.
If only Donkey were here right now. He would know what to do.
"You all right, sir?"
The voice didn't sound familiar at first, so Shrek looked up from his knees.
Oh my God… it's Lord Farquaad! I thought Dragon ate him!
"Lord Farquaad?" Shrek managed to say through his disbelief. He immediately jumped to his feet with his mouth wide open.
Lord Farquaad was on a horse and he said, "That is me. Are you alright?" Of course he didn't recognize Shrek since he was a human.
Shrek stammered, "U-Uh yeah. I-I'm okay. I thought you were-."
"Dead?"
"Yeah. I heard that you were eaten by a dragon."
"Yes, well, the dragon ended up letting me go. Such a nice dragon. I'm surprised she let me go."
Shrek sighed and he thought, I need him to take me to Far Far Away. If I keep my identity a secret from him, then he'll for sure take me.
Shrek smiled, and he said, "I need you to do me a favor, Lord Farquaad."
Then, Lord Farquaad frowned. "Your voice sounds familiar... "
Oh crap… please don't recognize me!
"What do you mean my voice sounds familiar?" Shrek asked.
Lord Farquaad got off his horse, pointing a sword towards Shrek. "You're the ogre! That's how I know you!"
Shrek held his hands up defenselessly and he said, "Whoa, whoa, wait! Please, Lord Farquaad, do not kill me!"
"You're the ogre! You're the reason why I am not king! You bastard!"
Lord Farquaad swung his sword at Shrek, but he dodged it. Shrek yelled, "Please Lord Farquaad! Do not kill me! I have to get back to Fiona!"
"For what?! You stole her from me! You stole Duloc away from me!"
He continued to swing at Shrek, but eventually Shrek grabbed Lord Farquaad's arm and made him drop the sword. "Listen to me or else I'll turn the sword the other way!"
Lord Farquaad growled, "Don't you dare!"
"Then listen to me!" Shrek let go of Lord Farquaad and picked up the sword, pointing it towards Lord Farquaad.
"Look," Shrek started. "I married Fiona and right when we got home from our honeymoon, we were invited to come to Far Far Away by the king and queen, Fiona's parents, to celebrate our marriage. Of course, they didn't approve of me as an ogre so I took a magic potion, which turned me into this. Then I had to fight the Fairy Godmother and I kissed Fiona by midnight, so now I am permanently human. Then, the king died and Fiona told me she was pregnant. I freaked out on her and yelled at her, and then I ran back home. So now, I realized that I never should've left her because I love her and I want the baby. Now I am going back to Far Far Away to get her. That's why I need you and your horse to help me get back to Far Far Away."
Lord Farquaad asked, "And why should I help you?"
Shrek sighed, tears coming up his eyes, "Because I am begging you. I really love Fiona and I am the father of her baby, so I really need you to help me out here. Please."
Lord Farquaad sighed. Then he asked, "What do I get in return?"
Crap, I don't know what to give him in return! I have to give him something or else he won't help me!
Shrek replied, hoping for Lord Farquaad's belief, "I'll give you a home in the king and queen's castle. You can live there… for free."
Lord Farquaad thought, well, that is a good deal. I think I can help this ogre.
"Fine. I will help you, but you better promise me a room in the castle," Lord Farquaad said.
Shrek smiled and he cheerfully replied, "Oh, yes, of course! Thank you so much! Thank you!"
He picked up the petite man and they mounted on the horse. Shrek's smile was not going to disappear for the next 700 miles; he was too happy to not smile.
"To Far Far Away, Olympus!" Lord Farquaad announced to his chocolate horse.
And then they were gone with the wind.
On the ship back to Far Far Away, Fiona was viewing the ocean from the end of the boat. Her mind could not lay off of how she held Charming's hand. She had a rush of adrenaline flow through her when they touched. She couldn't believe that she had done that, but she thought it felt right.
She had this smile on her face that was being burnt from the sunset ahead of her. Then she felt a hand slowly run up her back.
She could feel her body shudder at the touch of Charming's hand. Her smile slightly widened and she turned to face him. He was too burning from the sunset, but that didn't stop him from smiling at her.
His hand didn't leave her back. Then, she gently grabbed his hand and removed it from her body.
Boy, is this getting intense, she thought sexually. When she was a girl, she had this massive crush on him. She couldn't tell if these feelings were already coming back or she is just infatuated with him.
"Hey," Charming said in his casually sexy voice.
"Hi," she replied.
"Beautiful sunset, huh?" he asked. He leaned on the edge of the ship, facing the sun.
Fiona said, "Yes it is. I used to hate sunsets, but now I think they're pretty."
"Why did you hate them?"
"I thought you knew about my curse… your mother didn't tell you?"
He shook his head. "Tell me about it, Princess."
She took a deep breath and explained, "When I was a little girl, a witch casted a spell on me. Every day I'd look like this, but every night I'd turn into an ogress. When I kissed Shrek for the first time, I remained an ogress. Then, he took that magic potion, which turned both of us into humans. Then, I kissed him again and then we permanently became humans."
He stopped leaning on the ship and he asked, "Why did the witch cast a spell on you?"
Fiona shrugged. "I don't know. I was very young, so I don't remember much about getting cursed. I just remember being locked in a tower and turning into a hideous beast every night at sunset."
"Surely you were not hideous, Princess," Charming calmly replied.
Fiona slightly smiled at him and she said, "Yes I was. I cried myself to sleep every night because I could not stand that tower and me being hideous. It was awful in there."
She could not hold back the tears that were coming up. Even though she had been out of that tower, she was still afraid of it. It still haunted her, just like the argument she had with Shrek.
She looked over the ship and watched her tears fall into the ocean. Charming had put his arm around her shoulder and he comfortingly said, "It's alright, Princess. We'll make sure that you'll never see that tower again."
"It's not only that that is pissing me off right now," she replied tearfully.
Charming gave her a confused look, and he asked, "What else is it that is bothering you? Is it me?"
Fiona looked at him and she said, "No, it's actually not you. It's my whole situation with Shrek right now. He was the one who was supposed to get Artie, but here I am getting him. I should be at the castle right now worrying if he had made it or not. Since he had stormed out on me, I had to do this, and I get seasick very easily. I just hate how he walked out on me like that."
Charming frowned, and he said, "He left when you needed him the most. Your father just died and all you need is support, which is what he didn't give you."
They both looked upon yonder and saw the top of the castle in the distance. Charming smiled and said, "Well, we made it back safely."
Fiona thought, I hope Shrek is there waiting for me. I hope that all of this was just a big nightmare.
Fiona looked at Charming and she said with a smile, "Thanks for being here, Charming. It was nice to have someone to talk to."
He replied, "No problem, Princess. Being there for someone is my specialty."
She hesitated, but gave him a small kiss on the cheek. She saw him blush, and he smiled.
"Call me Fiona," she told him with a smile. He gave her a nod and they continued to smile at each other as the ship drifted towards the castle.
When they had walked inside the castle, it seemed as if everyone was asleep. There was no one around when they had walked in.
"So this is where I am going to live?" Artie asked Fiona. He seemed anxious to be ruling a huge kingdom and living in a huge castle.
Fiona replied, "Yep. My mother will still be the queen, but you're the new king."
Artie smiled and he said, "Oh man, this is so cool! When do I start as king?"
Fiona replied, "I don't know. My mother needs to talk to you about that."
Donkey chimed in and said, "We can take him to your mother if you want, Princess."
Puss asked him, "Do you know where she is?"
Donkey shook his head and said, "We can just look around for her. Surely she's in her room."
"Now do you know where that is?" Puss asked, almost laughing.
"Shut up, Puss! Come on, Artie. Follow us," Donkey said.
Artie laughed at them, and he followed them as they walked up the stairs near them.
Fiona and Charming were laughing at them, and he asked, "Well, wanna call it a night, Fiona?"
She gave him a smile and thought, one drink with him won't kill me, will it?
"Want to go to the Poison Apple for a drink? With me?" she asked.
"I thought you weren't supposed to drink alcohol when you're pregnant…" Charming said with confusion.
"Don't worry. I'll just get a water, but would you go with me?"
He took her hand and said, "I'd love to join you. Let's go."
Maybe I will be happier if I continue to spend time with Charming… did I make a mistake by marrying Shrek? She thought.
"I made a huge mistake leaving her," Shrek told Lord Farquaad while they were riding on the horse.
"Why did you freak out on her?" Lord Farquaad asked.
"I don't know. I know I wasn't ready to be a dad, but I don't know why I left her. What I did was wrong and it was rude. I bet she thinks I am a complete fool and asshole. I can't even imagine the look on her face when I see her again. She has every right to be pissed at me," Shrek said sadly.
Lord Farquaad sighed and said, "Well, now you know that you shouldn't do that. I remember when my father did that to my mother."
Shrek gave him a concerned look and asked, "What?"
Lord Farquaad made Olympus slow down and he sighed. "I was a boy when my mother was pregnant with my younger sister. My father had only wanted one boy so they could take the throne after him. His heart had never desired to have a daughter; only a son. I was there when my mother had told him the news and he even went so far to slap her to the ground."
Shrek gasped lightly and replied, "Oh my God."
Lord Farquaad felt some tears fall down his cheeks and he continued, "It was the angriest that I had ever seen him, and it was all over my sister. My mother had decided to leave my father, but she decided to let my father have me. I have seen my sister a few times in my life, but my mother refused to see me because she believed that I had turned out like my father. Sadly, I did. I became ignorant, conceited, and selfish throughout the years. Then once my father died a few years back, Duloc knew that they couldn't live without a king, so I was the next in line."
Shrek asked, "So then you needed a princess to make you a king?"
Lord Farquaad nodded, and he said, "Yes. The Magic Mirror stopped by my castle and we had a small bachelorette party to see who would be my future wife and Duloc's queen. So, that's pretty much how I turned out."
Shrek said, putting his hand on Lord Farquaad's shoulder, "Damn. I'm sorry. That almost sounds exactly like how I reacted to when Fiona told me. However, I didn't slap her."
Lord Farquaad sighed and he said, "Just remember that she may not be happy when you return."
Shrek's eyes widened and he thought, Crap! His mother left his father when he freaked out on her! Now Fiona is going to leave me! I have to hurry!
Shrek anxiously said, "Lord Farquaad, I need you to speed up your horse! I do not want Fiona to leave me! We need to hurry there before…"
Lord Farquaad looked behind him and asked, "Before what?"
Shrek replied, "Before Charming gets to her! Come on! Let's go!"
Lord Farquaad yelled at his horse, "Run as fast as you can Olympus! All the way to Far Far Away!"
Olympus whinnied, and he started to gallop as fast as he could. Shrek had read the mile sign that was in front of him. Only 600 more miles until I get to Fiona, he thought.
Back at the Poison Apple, Charming and Fiona were let in and they sat down at the bar. Doris came up to them and she smiled dreamily at Charming.
"Uh, can I get two shots of tequila and a water for the Princess please?" Charming asked.
"Of course you can! Anything for you, Prince Charming!" Doris said excitedly as she went to go get their drinks.
Charming looked at Fiona with a smile and he said with a small laugh, "She has a huge crush on me. She forcefully kissed me at your wedding party."
Fiona laughed a little and she said, "That's funny. I wouldn't have even noticed because there were so many people there."
What was nice was that they were the only two in there, which is unusual for the Poison Apple to be empty at eight o'clock. Doris came back with their drinks in no time, and she asked with a smile, "Anything else for you, Charming? Maybe a kiss?"
Charming gave her a smile and said, "Uh, no thanks. Maybe a little privacy would be nice."
Doris gave him a sad look and walked away from them. She was too distracted by Charming to realize that he was out with the Princess… who was Shrek's wife.
Fiona said, "Thanks for my drink." She started to drink it and he replied, "No, thank you for inviting me. I didn't expect our relationship to improve so quickly."
She slightly chuckled and she replied, "Well, it's nice for you to comfort me at this time. Even though I did tell you yesterday to not touch me or anything."
They both laughed and Fiona looked down at her stomach, noticing how much bigger it had gotten within a few weeks.
Charming asked, "Are you excited to have your baby?"
Fiona smiled and replied, "Very much so. I honestly hope it is a girl so I can name her Felicia. I've always wanted a daughter named Felicia. If it's a boy, I don't know what name I'd give him."
He replied, taking some drinks of his shots, "That's great that you are extending your family. I've always wanted a child myself. For me, I've always wanted a son and name him Charming, just like me."
Fiona said, "Well, maybe if you meet a girl, you could have a son with her."
Charming said with a laugh, "Yeah, I guess it's that easy, but right now, most people hate me at this point because of what I did to you at your party. So it's not that easy for me to be honest."
She said with a smile, "They should just forget about that right now. They should be all hating Shrek for what he did to me, which is worse than what you did."
"Yeah, that's true," Charming replied. Then they continued to smile at each other, wondering what would happen to their relationship if Shrek had never returned.
