It was an eventful week— far too eventful, although the Foster family should already be used to so much drama. This week, however, was different. Sure, the family of 5 siblings along with their parents had gone through a lot of scary things, but they were trapped in a school with a psychotic kid who had a gun that then decided it was a better idea to camp out in their house before bombarding poor fifteen-year-old Mariana in her bedroom, threatening to kill himself.

It was a horrifying event for the family, especially Mariana and her twin brother, Jesus who had obliged from a very young age to protect his baby sister— even though she was only twenty minutes younger, forever.

So that's why at 1am while everyone else was asleep, Jesus had gotten up after lying in bed for so long unable to sleep with so many worrisome thoughts running around in his head. He roamed the hallways, wanting to make sure that his sister was safe as he popped his head into the girls' room quietly to see Callie fast asleep. But before he turn his head to look for Mariana, he heard a gasp.

His eyes widened and worse-case scenarios popped up in his head as he rushed into the room to make sure Mariana was okay.

"Mariana?" He sighed in relief when he saw a small figure lying in bed with clenched eyes, obviously trying to pretend to be a sleep.

When Mariana heard the gentle and concerned voice of her twin brother rather than the rough one of Nick Stratos, she let out a sigh of relief and opened her eyes.

"Are you okay?" He walked further inside and sat down at the side of her bed. She sat up straighter and looked at her twin with fear filled eyes and shook her head.

"I just- I can't stop thinking about how he was in our house for- for a week and we didn't know." The Latino girl whimpered shakily. "I'm scared, Jesus."

"Hey, hey, it's okay. You saw the police take him away." Jesus shifted closer and put his hand on his sister's. "And- and I'm here, alright? You're safe."

"For now..." Mariana mumbled and sighed, looking down at her hands. Her heart was still beating at an abnormal pace. She didn't want to look up because she couldn't focus her eyes on one spot for even two minutes without Nick suddenly appearing in her sight.

She looked back up at her brother, revealing tear-filled eyes which instantly made Jesus' heart break a bit. There was nothing he hated more than seeing Mariana being this terrified.

"Look, as much as I hate to admit it... I was scared too, okay? I was scared that this insane guy who used to be my best friend was going to hurt you. But he's gone now and he can't hurt you, okay?"

Jesus pulled his sister into a tight embrace, resting his chin on her head and rubbing her arm comfortingly.

"Let's get some sleep?" Jesus suggested with a half-hearted smile. He got up to tuck his sister in but she refused to lie back down.

"Come on. It's okay." He sighed not knowing what else to say anymore. "What can I do to get you to sleep, Mariana? Water? Do you need to go to the bathroom? I can make you mint tea if you want. "

"Stay?" Her small, scared and tired voice spoke.

"Yeah, move over." Jesus smiled softly, climbing into Mariana's butterfly-patterned bed. She turned her back to her brother who wrapped his arm around his sister, wanting to assure her that she was safe as long as he was here to protect her.
