Doomsday; that was the only way to describe it. My heart had been pounding the whole four hour drive up to Seattle, and it wasn't getting much better as we walked down the ward towards the NICU. We were to have a meeting with the nurses and doctors and the social workers before we were to see the babies whom had been born an hour and a half ago. We'd received the call in the truck as we drove up here, and now it was starting to hit. We're parents to six babies, my siblings, my mind whirled at the thought.

Jake squeezed my hand as we were ushered into a pristine, white office. A man and a woman sat behind a desk, their badges reading Dr Coombes and Dr Sanders. They both greeted us with warm smiles. "Mr and Mrs Black, its lovely to finally meet you." They greeted just as warmly.

The door creaked behind us and Shelia gave me a wide smile, gently enveloping me in a warm embrace. "Ah, Eleanora, lovely to see you again." She murmured, squeezing me before releasing me and giving Jake the same treatment. She motioned for us to sit and we all did so.

Conversation flowed easily and a small smile overtook my face as we were told the genders. Four boys and two girls, not three of each as they thought. It didn't matter; they would be loved regardless, each of them never knowing the horror I had growing up.

Dr Coombes had a solemn look on his face as he surveyed us. "Now, the sextuplets are otherwise in good form, surprisingly, but they will have some issues. Baby F, the smallest girl, she has an issue with one of her aortic valve; that will need to be sorted immediately. It could help further her progress, but it will set her back behind the others for a while in terms of the progress they make in the NICU. One of the males, Baby C, had acute respiratory issues. He wasn't breathing when he was delivered, and he continues to have difficulties to this very moment. They are all very, very sickly and while we're doing all we can, its my job to be frank with you, and tell you that some of them have a limited chance for survival."

My heart stuttered, Jake giving my hand a tight squeeze. "Whatever is thrown our way, we'll handle it." He stated calmly, gently rubbing his thumb over my knuckles as he did so. I squeezed back, relishing in the comfort his answering squeeze gave.

Shelia nodded before she turned back to the doctors. "No one but myself, Eleanora, Jacob and anyone they authorise is to see the sextuplets," she stated and both doctors nodded. "The authorities are already with the biological mother, and father, talking to them. We will see to it they do not see them. The babies will be kept in insolation but for the doctors for the next few days, while we survey how best to provide the ultimate care to them."

Jake nodded, giving my hand a gentle squeeze. I looked at him before back to the trio before us. "We're ready, and willing, to do whatever it takes."

Hi everyone! I appreciate its a tiny, feeble little update, but it was better than nothing. I really hope to be coming back to this, and now I have a routine worked out in reality, around university ( which I desperately want to pass can I just add), I should be coming back with updates across the majority of my stories soon!

In the meantime, I would really appreciate it if you could go and give my new release a read, follow/heart and maybe a comment, just to let me know how I'm doing so far and if you like how its going further down the line! Thank you all for your patience and I promise I'll be back with an update soon!
