Hey guys… so I realized I've been using the wrong name… it is Padma not Padme, I know, I'm an idiot. So, I will try to use the right name, but I will not go back to fix all occurrences of this until I at least get finished with year 1 of this story. Also was looking over the characters, did you know Remus' parents' names were Lyall (which translates to wolf) and Hope Howell (Howl! Are you kidding me?), the Lupins are just a series of wolf puns and I love it.
Also, regarding the trial, no I have not forgotten, and I am aware of how soon the trials take place normally, but this isn't a normal trial. Many people know how loose Peter's lips are when he fears for his life, and they don't want him speaking. Also when Peter was taken into custody, a look into Sirius Black's court records revealed there was never a trial, and so the DMLE has been using this time to investigate those involved to see if it was prevented either on purpose or by mistake.
Originally the wait for the trial was going to be a few weeks, but sometime before Halloween, but I felt it was a bit too close to the full moon for a certain Marauder to attend the trial, and Nov 6th was a new moon, so that's the date I went with.
This will be the last chapter regarding the events of Halloween.
Sorry for the long AN, back to the story
After breakfast, Harry and the Patil twins went to go see McGonagall.
They entered the witch's office to find her grading a few 3rd year papers.
"Mister Potter, Misses Patil, how can I help you three?" she asked not even glancing up from her grading.
"Professor, I…" Harry stopped, struggling with the words, 'How do you just come out and say, "Your colleague is a unicorn murdering psychopath who might be possessed by Voldemort!" The only reason I know any of this is because I'm a xenomorph, which I can't tell her. I've been sneaking out of the dorms, can't tell her. Attacking a professor, which I can't tell her.' Harry stopped his thinking and looked at Parvati and Padma to try and help him.
Padma was the one who took over, "Professor McGonagall, we are very concerned about Professor Quirrell."
At this Minerva put down her quill, "What about him, has something happened?"
"He's acting weird, talking to himself when he think's no ones watching him, it is rather unsettling," Padma replied.
"Also, he's overly afraid of any loud sounds in the classroom, I dropped a book by accident, and he jumped behind his desk in fear," Parvati added.
Harry then added, "And remember the other week when he got that really bad injury? Says he got into a fight with something in the forest, what was he doing in the forest?"
"It just seems that Quirrell isn't ready to handle working in a school, somethings obviously scarred him, he needs to be in a hospital receiving care," Padma finished.
Minerva's sat up in her chair, "It warms my heart that you three worry so much for Quirinus' health, but I've brought this up with Dumbledore several times. He's assured me Professor Quirrell is more than fit to continue teaching for the year. Is that all you wished to talk to me about?"
The three nodded before turning and leaving.
"That didn't go well," Parvati commented.
"No kidding," Harry said.
"Maybe if we found out what he's trying to steal we could stop him, and show proof," Padma suggested gaining a nod from her sister and Harry. Thus, the search for what the hell was being hidden in the castle began.
The first idea was Harry's. He had interacted with Hagrid a few times since he dropped by for tea and during their short conversations it became clear to Harry that Hagrid really like creatures, but not just creatures, dangerous creatures. The last time he spoke with Hagrid the half-giant remarked he always dreamed of raising a dragon, despite the fact he lives in a wooden hut. If there was ever someone to go talking to about a 3 headed dog, it would be him.
They took this free time to go and stop by Hagrid's Hut to ask him some questions. They found him sitting on the front steps of said house, Fang laying on the ground next to him, whilst he practiced playing a flute.
"Hey Hagrid," Harry said.
Hagrid stops playing, "Mornin' Harry, what can I do fer yeh?"
"Did you hear about the troll?" Harry asked.
"O' course, they needed someone to drag it ou' of a bathroom."
"What did you do with it?"
"Gave it to Aragog, his family will have plenty o' use for a troll," Hagrid answered.
"You must deal with all sorts of interesting creatures," Parvati said.
"I try to, one o' the most magical things about this world," Hagrid replied.
"You wouldn't happen to own a 3 headed dog, would you?" Padma asked.
"Who told you about Fluffy?" Hagrid asked.
"You named your Cerberus Fluffy?" Parvati asked.
"Course, you should've seen him when he was a pup, no bigger than Fang 'ere," Hagrid answered his mind going back to the time in question.
"Where'd you get him?" Harry asked.
"Bought him from an Irish feller I met at the pub last year, then I lent 'im to Dumbledore to guard the…"
"Yes?" Harry asked.
"Shouldn't 'ave said that. That's top secret that is!"
"What could he be guarding at a school I wonder," Padma thought out loud.
"Could be a powerful magical artifact," Parvati said trying to get Hagrid to either confirm or deny.
Hagrid sighed, "Now you listen to me, all three of you, yer meddling in something that ought not to be meddled in. It's dangerous. What that dog is guarding is strictly between Professor Dumbledore and Nicholas Flamel."
"Nicholas Flamel?"
"I should not have said that," Hagrid admonished himself over an over again before walking into his hut ashamed at his inability to keep secrets.
"Who's Nicholas Flamel?" Harry asked, neither of the Patils knew either. Thus the search for information on Nicholas Flamel began. The first obstacle, the library. If information about him lead to knowing what was being kept in the school, then obviously that information would either be restricted, or if not, hard to find, and asking a professor about him was out of the question.
Harry told the Patils about the library in the Sanctum and how they could search through there. So, Harry lead the two back into the Sanctum and they began searching for information about Flamel. Harry had initially asked Salazar if he knew anything about the man.
"No, sorry," Salazar responded.
"Really? You knew about Tom Riddle," Harry said.
"Yes, but he was my heir. I interacted with him here in the Sanctum. You forget I'm dead, been that way for almost a thousand years."
"Yeah, would you happen to know of a way to filter books?" Harry asked, to which Salazar shook his head, 'Thanks for nothing great-great-great-whatever grandfather.'
