Hey guys! What's up? Right now I'm just chilling oh and hey! Thanks for all the reviews, that was kind of a new one for me. Don't really get too many of those on a single chapter ya know? It's nice to hear feedback! Anyway, on with what I think I want to be a bit more of a somber chapter.
So I came back after writing and yeah there's a lot of very not somber chapter here but I think I like it more this way. I think you guys will too. If you want though, I can write a somber one later.
It really didn't take long for Natsu to get back to the guild. He slipped through the wide doors and into a barstool. Everyone seemed either minorly confused or angry. He sighed. Things would only get worse from there. At least the truly worst part of today was over. Now all they had to do was explain what happened. He imagined some people would be mad about Laxus trying what he did while others would be more upset over his departure.
Natsu's ear twitched as he heard someone slide into the seat next to him. He was wondering where she was. Natsu sucked in a quick breath before turning to face Mira.
"Hey."
"Hey yourself," Mira said lightly, "how'd your fight go?"
"About how you'd expect I imagine?"
"Yeah?" She paused and looked at Natsu, "What's wrong?"
"Mmm," Natsu shook his head, "Not really feeling all that great."
"Are you sick?" Mira asked, placing her hand on his forehead, "Can dragons even get sick?"
"I mean sure, magical illnesses are a thing," Natsu said, a smile flitted across his face before disappearing, "I'm not sick. Just confused I guess?"
"About what?"
"Laxus Dreyar," Natsu said quietly, looking down at his feet.
"Like… Like you have feelings for Laxus or something else?" Mira asked. Natsu looked horrified for a moment before registering the look that danced across her features.
"No of course not, you of all people would know that," Natsu chuckled, "No. He, uh. He got kicked out of the guild."
Mira's eyes widened just a smidgen, "Just like his father huh?"
"What?"
"Master kicked out Laxus's father for putting the rest of the guild in danger as well, though Ivan Dreyar was more interested in getting mixed up with Dark Guilds than Laxus."
"I see," Natsu said pensively, "I just don't get it. As a dragon, your family is the most important thing to you. Even if they mess up, you don't just cast them aside."
"But how does Master know that Laxus wouldn't do anything again?" Mirajane asked, rubbing the back of her head.
"He cast Fairy Law."
"He did?" Mira asked, surprise working its way into her voice.
"Yeah. And nobody was harmed," Natsu said, looking into Mirajane's eyes, "That's how he knows."
Mirajane nodded. It made enough sense to her. And yet, Laxus was still removed.
"What's more is that Gajeel is part of the guild, yet Makarov has banished his own blood. What sense does it make?" Natsu asked, shoulders slumped.
"The master is only human. Maybe Laxus reminded him of his own failures and he couldn't stand being around them," Mirajane said, "My magic is the perfect example of that."
"How so?"
"I never did tell you about Lisanna, did I?" Mirajane asked wearily.
"No you didn't and I didn't want to push it," Natsu said, "It's been a long day. Why don't you rest before the parade tonight?"
"What will you do?"
"Dunno. Too much on my mind I guess," Natsu before giving a rueful laugh, "Funny coming from me right? Never much on my mind."
"Guess so," Mirajane chuckled, "Well, I'll stay with you. I've got a bit on my mind as well."
"Yeah?"
"Let's go for a walk around the forest, yeah?"
"That," Natsu paused as a hint of a smile flashed across his face, "Sounds nice."
Natsu found himself walking next to one platinum blonde. For the most part, they walked in silence, alone in their thoughts but together in the world. Even though they hardly spoke, the atmosphere was calm and pleasant. Natsu thought this was far better than that of earlier. Natsu's thoughts wandered, his mind restless.
As a dragon, it was hard for him to understand. Igneel would later tell him that it was his own heart as well, and not just his inner dragon. Natsu sighed which drew a look from his companion. Natsu didn't notice her stare.
Mira, as opposed to Natsu, had her thoughts focused on one thing, or rather one person. It tugged at her heart to see the normally upbeat man stuck in his own head. She stared at him. He really had changed a lot of things in her life. It was nice. The positive impact he'd had on her was quite noticeable. Erza had commented on it. Erza would never have admitted it, but she was glad Natsu had changed Mira. Mirajane chuckled as she thought about the redhead.
Now if only Natsu could bring Erza out of her shell too. Mira shook her head, nah. She'll find someone else; Natsu was hers. Mira barely registered the thought but a small part of her catalogued it in the back of her mind.
"Natsu," Mirajane asked, "I wanted to talk to you."
"About?"
"Lisanna."
Natsu's eyes widened just a tad, "You sure?"
"Sure as I'll ever be," Mirajane sighed and brushed a bit of hair away from her face, "You know I used to be S-class and I was so confident in my abilities and I decided to take Elf and Lisanna on an S-class mission to slay the Beast which is supposedly the king of monsters or some crap like that."
"Who gave it that name?" Natsu asked.
"No idea, but I ended up getting hurt. It fractured my radius and so I couldn't use one arm. Elf decided to try and use his Take-over magic and he lost control. Lisanna always put us before herself and ended up getting killed trying to talk Elfman out of the Beast's control."
"I see," Natsu said, looking up at the sky, "And that's around the time that you put a lock on your magic huh?"
"I suppose so. I'm not entirely sure how it happened but that's most likely reason number one."
"You alright?" Natsu asked, "Come on, let's sit down for a second."
"Why?"
"I want to?" Natsu said.
"Fair enough," Mirajane walked over with Natsu and sat down by the base of a tree.
"You never answered my question," Natsu said teasingly.
"You never gave me a chance to answer," she chuckled as she flicked his forehead.
"Well here's your chance then!"
"I'm okay. It hurts a lot less than it did," Mirajane rubbed her temple.
"But it still hurts," Natsu said before looking at the platinum blonde. He thought for a moment before wrapping his arm around her.
"What's this?"
"You need a hug."
"Not exactly what I'd call a hug, Natsu," Mirajane snickered.
"Alright fine!" Natsu said as he withdrew his arm teasingly, "No hug for you then."
"Hey now, you can't call it a hug but give it back," Mira said, feigning annoyance.
"Give what back, my arm?" Mirajane nodded. Natsu cracked a smile and placed his arm back.
"Is this better?" Natsu teased.
"It is, in fact, better. You are an excellent space heater," Mirajane smiled, "and you smell nice."
"Do I?"
"Mmhhhmmmm. I may not have your sense of smell but you smell pretty great. Like a campfire or something," Mirajane said, leaning her head back against his arm.
"I see," Natsu said, scratching his chin with his free arm, "What are you looking at?"
"Nothing?"
"Why are you looking up then?"
"Like I said, space heater. Very warm," Mirajane said before giggling, "you're pretty comfortable for a dragon."
"Am I?" Natsu asked, "You know, when I was growing up with Igneel, I used to curl up on his arm and lay against him. Musta tickled the hell outta him but he still let me."
Mirajane cooed, "That's fucking adorable!"
Natsu chuckled, "Is it?"
Mirajane looked at him as if it were obvious, "Well of course it is! You're pretty cute now so little you must have been adorable."
Natsu laughed, "I'm glad you think so. Hey, Mira."
"What's up?"
"You want to do something after the festival?"
Mira looked at Natsu and smiled, "That sounds nice."
"Meet me by the bakery after?"
"Sounds like a plan. Try not to get scooped up by Erza, yeah?"
"What?"
"You know she loves those strawberry cheesecakes. It's a wonder she's not as heavy as you."
"I'm not that heavy, am I?" Natsu asked, pinching his stomach. Mira giggled and moved his hand away.
"Not that way Natsu!" Mirajane said, "You're really well built."
"You could chalk that up to my magic," Natsu said easily.
"Oh? Do tell Natsu."
"My fire and internal body temperature naturally burn fat," Natsu laughed, "Everything else is fine because it's necessary for a dragon to function, but you'll never see a fat fire dragon. Our muscles, bones, and skin are all strengthened even more than regular dragons to account for the heat."
"Oh really? You'll have to teach me your fire magic at some point then! It'd make my life so much easier," Mira laughed, pinching a bit of skin on her thigh.
"Nah, you look better with a bit of fat on you," Natsu laughed, "You're perfect the way you are! Besides, you and I both know you don't really care about your looks enough to force yourself into a diet."
"Even if I did, the amount of training we do as mages makes up for the lack of it," Mirajane said as she leaned back a bit, "I need to eat as much as I do."
"Sounds about right," Natsu said as he shifted a bit, "What do you want to do later?"
"I'm assuming you'll be hungry later?"
"I'm always hungry."
"I know you are," Mirajane turned to him, "Why don't we go back to my place and I can make dinner?"
Natsu's eyes widened. Mirajane was nothing if not one of the best cooks around, aside from ya know, being incredibly strong, smart, and pretty, "Really?"
"Wouldn't have offered if I didn't mean it," she laughed. Natsu grinned and thought about how lucky he was. In more than one way.
"Oh that means that I have to get you something!" Natsu shot up to his feet, practically bouncing with energy, "See you tonight! I gotta go figure out what I'm going to do!"
"Wait you don't have to. I invited you over," Mirajane sputtered, not expecting the sudden burst of energy.
"Don't care!" Natsu shouted as he started running, "See you tonight!"
Mirajane sighed as she stood up. Never a boring day around Natsu. She smiled as she thought about her favorite dragon slayer. She brushed herself off and started towards town. She had stuff to do too.
Natsu hadn't particularly cared for the parade. Lots of noise. It was fun to show off and be a bit flashy though. He had made some kids' nights with his fire. That was worth it enough. Natsu looked down at himself. In a bit of an impulsive decision, Natsu had decided to wear something a bit nicer. He wore a nice pair of light wash pants with a darker button down shirt. The sleeves had gotten in his way so he rolled them up a bit. Out of laziness, he had left the top button undone.
Natsu didn't much care for fashion but he thought he looked rather good. He laughed at himself and shook his head. It was a bit tighter than his normal clothes. He struggles to not act like Gray and unbutton his shirt. Natsu's eyes glimmered in the dark as he was struck with an idea. It didn't take Natsu long to reach the doors of the bakery. To the surprise of nobody, Natsu saw one Erza Scarlet inside ordering something. Most likely cheesecake.
Natsu didn't particularly care for cheesecake, pie and ice cream or brownies were far more his speed. Natsu looked at the clock in the square where the bakery was located. Eight wasn't too bad for a later dinner. Natsu leaned against the wall of the bakery. Unfortunately for him, his sense of smell got the better of him and he wondered if he should get something.
In the end, reason won out and he went in (with reason being that of course he should because food was food and he was hungry). He stepped inside and was met with the pleasant smells of sweets and baked goods. Natsu walked up to the counter. Erza, being the vigilant woman she was, had turned to look at the door when it had opened. She stepped to the side as Natsu walked up next to her.
"Natsu," She said as she looked him over, " You look nice. What are you doing here?"
"Got hungry," he shrugged. Natsu hovered looking at the various things to get before turning to Erza, "Okay so other than strawberry cheesecake, what would you recommend?"
Erza thought for a moment as she gazed at the selection, "You can never go wrong with a good-"
"Stop that thought right there. I said no cheesecake," Natsu chuckled.
Erza sighed, "A foolish decision on your part. But if I had to say something, I think the cinnamon buns are rather good."
"Are they?" Natsu asked the baker who nodded (though of course he would, he wanted to sell his product), "I'll take a dozen!"
Erza turned to him, flabbergasted, "But you've never even had any. How can you order that many without a second thought?"
"Food is food," Natsu said. The door opened but he was rather enraptured by the pastries being placed in the box. Oh they smelled so good. Erza had made a good choice. Natsu handed the baker some money and took the box as it was offered. Natsu moved to open the box but found that a pair of rather soft hands had covered his eyes. He did, however, manage to get the box open. Even though he couldn't see them, he could still smell them though. And damn they smelled good. Though she arguably- he mentally shook his head.
"Who is it?" Mirajane's voice came from behind him.
"Hi Mira!" Natsu said happily as he turned around to face her. Oh. She looked good. Natsu's eyes quickly gave Mirajane a once-over. He licked his lips which didn't go unnoticed by either Erza or Mirajane, "Cinnamon roll?"
Mira hummed to herself, "Maybe later. You ready?"
Erza's eyes flicked between the two. So they were going on a date? Natsu didn't seem like the type but hey, she didn't know him nearly as well as Mirajane did, "Well, you two enjoy yourselves."
"You too, Erza," Natsu called as she walked out of the door briskly before whispering to Mirajane, "Is something bothering her?"
"Probably?" Mirajane shrugged, "Cinnamon rolls huh?"
"They smell so good!" Natsu said not unlike a small child. Mira laughed.
"Well let's get some dinner before we have you spoil your appetite."
"You know that's basically impossible!"
"Alright, how about let's get dinner before you spoil my appetite," she said easily as she pulled him out the door, "you look nice."
"Do I? Well I'm glad my clothing is acceptable, Miss Model," Natsu teased.
"Oh please, you could be wearing just about anything and you'd look fine," Mirajane shot back, "Oh don't look now but you have yourself some admirers."
"Do I?" Natsu asked, subtly surveying his surroundings, "So do you, but that's everywhere you go."
"So I do," Mirajane shrugged, "You do though, with your number one being right here."
"Yeah?" Natsu asked, "Well can I get you an autograph or something?"
"Very funny," she deadpanned, "Not like I'm inviting you into my house for dinner or anything."
"Yeah so?"
"For all you know I could be planning on drugging you and taking you for myself," she said as she looked at him blankly.
"You know, that's kinda weird. Probably not the worst thing to happen though," Natsu chuckled.
"You'd be surprised how often people like you get comments like that," Mirajane said as she gently touched the scarf that was wrapped around her neck.
"People like me?"
"People who're attractive," Mirajane shrugged as if it were obvious.
"I think you mean people like us then," Natsu laughed.
"Should I?"
"Oh absolutely," Natsu said as he looked at her. She wore a black top that hung easily around her. It stopped just at her midriff before cutting off rather loosely. She wore a pair of tight, ripped jeans. Natsu's own scarf found itself wrapped securely around Mira's neck, topping off the casual yet elegant look.
"I'm glad you think so!" Mirajane's eyes lit up and she smiled a bit wider.
"So what's for dinner?"
"Straight to the food huh?" Mirajane asked teasingly.
"Well that's what we're here to do, right?" Natsu asked innocently, "eat?"
Mirajane giggled at his antics, "Yeah among other things."
"Bet you had to make a lot of food for us and Elfman," Natsu said, looking at the sky.
"Oh Elfman is staying at the guild. Porlyusica wanted to keep everyone who got injured back just in case. More so Freed, Evergreen, and Bickslow than anyone else. Any idea why?"
Natsu whistled and feigned innocence, "No idea."
Mirajane laughed, "Sure you don't. As it would appear, we are here."
Natsu watched as she moved to dig her key out from somewhere but Natsu simply placed his hand on hers and gestured for her to stop. He placed his finger against the keyhole and a small piece of ice slowly filled it. He twisted it and the lock clicked open. Mirajane looked at him for a second before laughing, "I'm not sure many would appreciate that ability, Natsu."
"Ah but it only matters if you mind," Natsu said easily.
"I suppose you're right. If you're doing that to other people, we have a different issue."
"Nah. Only you," Natsu said as he suppressed a snicker.
"I'm flattered," Mirajane said overdramatically, "that my house is the only one that you'll break into."
"I'm sure you wouldn't mind," Natsu laughed.
"No I suppose you're right. At least I'll get a nice space heater out of it, huh?"
"Exactly right!" Natsu said before sniffing the air, "It smells so good."
"Does it?"
"You have no idea!" Natsu said happily.
"Then show me so I will," Mirajane said easily as she closed the door. Natsu stared at her before nodding. He placed his hands on her temples and focused a bit. Mirajane gasped at the sudden feelings that bombarded her, though not unpleasantly so. She sniffed the air. She had done quite the job! It smelled great, though not nearly as good as Natsu did. Damn. He smelled delicious. He looked it too.
"So? How is it?"
"Amazing," she said airily. Natsu focused a bit more magic and she felt her senses dull a bit.
"Now!" Natsu said eagerly, "can we eat?"
"Someone's eager!"
"Hell yeah I am!" Natsu said as he practically picked up the woman next to him and pulled her into the kitchen, "How could I not be?"
"Fair enough," Mirajane giggled, "I think I outdid myself."
"Everything you cook is somehow better than the last," Natsu said happily as he smelled the air.
"Sure it is," Mirajane laughed, "We've talked about compliments getting you nowhere."
"I'm pretty sure you said flattery," Natsu said as he looked around.
"Looking for the food?"
"You know me so well," Natsu laughed, "Actually, may I set the table?"
"That's a bit of an odd request, but the plates are in the cabinet to the left of the fridge, and the utensils are in the drawers below that. May I ask why?"
"You've already done so much work. I want to help out a bit," Natsu said as he began gathering everything, "What do you want to drink?"
"I was hoping you'd have a bottle of wine with me," Mirajane said bashfully, "It's one of my favorites."
"Then I'll happily have some. Though I thought whiskey was more your speed," Natsu said happily.
"It is, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy wine as well," Mirajane laughed.
"Fair enough," Natsu said as he opened another cabinet.
"Glasses are to your left," Mirajane called as she moved several plates to the table.
"Thanks!" Natsu said back as he rummaged through the next cabinet. He made a noise of satisfaction as he surveyed the gathered items. Everything seemed to be in order. Natsu picked up everything, expertly balancing everything as he carried them to the table.
Natsu set everything down and went back into the kitchen. He assumed the bottle of wine on the table was the one that Mirajane had in mind. He was no expert in the stuff, but even he could appreciate the quality wine. Maybe he could do something nice for her. She'd never tasted it the way he did. She seemed to enjoy the enhanced sense of smell and hearing, maybe she'd enjoy tasting things that way too.
Natsu grabbed the bottle and walked over to the table. Mirajane passed him on the way there and bumped him with her hip. That was pretty fucking cute. Natsu liked that about Mira, she wasn't afraid of being up front and personal while remaining calm and kind. She managed to do that while also maintaining a cheeky personality and mixed in witty remarks with her cute attitude and actions.
Natsu turned to watch as she brought out the last plate of food. Natsu watched as she cutely pursed her lips as she bent over the table to place the last plate down, the concentration evident on her face. Natsu couldn't help but notice the way she filled out her clothes so nicely. She really was pleasant on the eyes.
"Ready?" Mirajane asked.
"Thought you'd never ask!" Natsu said as he moved towards her. She looked at him questioningly as he walked towards her but donned a thoughtful face as he pulled her chair out. " Who said chivalry was dead?" Mirajane thought to herself, "If a man raised by dragons could do this well, surely everyone else could as well."
Mirajane sat down and Natsu set himself to serving her. After a few moments, her plate was filled with assorted foods. Natsu then leaned over slightly and grabbed the bottle of wine and delicately lit the tip of his finger alight and held it to the bottle. The cork slid up a tiny bit and Natsu pulled it out easily. He took Mira's glass and poured the red liquid into the glass. Natsu set the bottle down and quickly set about, filling up another glass with water and setting it opposite of the wine.
Mirajane was unused to this kind of treatment and blushed as Natsu sat down across from her and smiled. That really was nice of him. While Mirajane didn't normally care about other people (especially men) caring for her and waiting on her, there was something different about it when it was Natsu. It was nice to know he cared. Most everyone else she'd gone on dates with had not been nearly as courteous or kind as Natsu was. She and Natsu were at home, and yet he still treated her like that. She smiled to herself and thought about how lucky she was.
"You know," Mirajane said as she took a sip of her water, "You're the first person I've ever done this with."
"Yeah?" Natsu grinned, "Well, you should be pleased to hear that you are, in fact, the first person I've done this with."
"Oh really?" Mirajane asked, surprised, "With your manners, it seems as if you'd worked it down to an art. Am I really the first?"
"Absolutely. Igneel really did hammer my manners in," Natsu said before whispering conspiratorial, bringing a hand up to the side of his mouth, "You wouldn't know it though!"
Mirajane giggled, "You're always kind and while some of your actions are strange (such as his lack of feelings about nudity), you're always courteous and you're pretty quick to learn for someone with a head that hard."
"What does that mean?" Natsu asked, feigning indignance.
"Let me spell it out for you Natsu," Mirajane laughed, "You're kinda dumb."
Natsu stuck his tongue out at her before taking a bite. He moaned as the flavors hit his tongue. Mirajane found that this particular noise did something rather strange to her, but she brushed it aside for later, "Well? How is it?"
"No time to - talk, must- eat. Too -tasty to -stop," Natsu said between bites. Mirajane laughed before taking a bite herself. Oh she had positively outdone herself. Natsu wiped his mouth before setting his fork down to breathe.
"Hey, Mira," Natsu said, "You know how I have enhanced senses?"
"Yeah? Why do you ask?"
"I taste things better too," Natsu said as he rubbed his head and reached for his glass, "Wanna try it?"
"That's a thing?"
"I mean all my senses are enhanced, touch and taste included. I mean I guess there are other ones like how my balance is and how I'm moving and all but most people don't think about that."
"Sounds like fun," Mirajane said, bending her head a bit. Natsu stood up just a bit and reached around her temples and focused a bit of magic.
"That should do it!" Natsu said as he sat back down in his chair and took a sip of wine. Mirajane took a bite of her food. Was this how Natsu tasted everything? Surely not!
"This is amazing," Mirajane said as she took another bite, "No wonder you eat so much!"
Natsu laughed, "You have no idea. I gave you a dulled version of mine because well, otherwise you might overload."
"Makes sense," Mira said, "Even now, it feels like a lot though it's not unpleasant."
"Yeah, I figured you might say that. When I was first learning how to use my magic, I enhanced my senses a bit too much and knocked myself out because it was so much. Igneel got a good laugh outta that one."
"I wish I could have seen that!" Mirajane laughed, "Does Igneel know all these different magic?"
"No not the types I learnt. Dragons typically can't learn other magic outside of their group."
Mirajane donned a pensive face, "Group?"
"Well I don't really have a better word for it that's not draconic, but basically dragons are divided into categories. You have your broad, more common groups like fire, water, earth, air, shadow, light, so on. Within each of those categories, you have dragons that are more specialized. They can use only their magic and the broader category but their magic tends to be a bit stronger than normal. That being said, a dragon of the main category such as a fire dragon can learn the subskills like lava or smoke magic.
It's not as strong as one with the specialized magic but it's made up for with the fact that they can learn more magic and use different skills. Dragons typically have a set magic container which struggles to accommodate other magic that isn't of their category. Since I'm a dragon slayer who with no draconic roots, I have no issue learning other magic. So while it's basically impossible for a fire dragon to learn ice magic, I have no restriction because it's just more magic. Though, I suppose I'm a bit special as well. Zeref, when he brought me back, gave me a natural aptitude for magic since it essentially replaced my functions for a bit.
Magic was what kept me stable when he was bringing me back and so I bonded with it. It's an integral part of my body. Once my heart and brain and all that stuff got back, the magic stopped being used. With nowhere else to go, it became part of me. And now I'm freaking awesome!"
"That's," Mirajane paused, "that's a lot but it makes sense. The dragon part was easy to understand. I just can't imagine little you somewhere being brought back to life. Hell, I can't imagine little you dying."
"Happens."
"Drying and coming back to life?" Mirajane asked, "no not really."
Natsu rubbed the back of his health, "Yeaahhh. Oh well!"
Mirajane smiled as Natsu took another bite. She reached for her glass precisely as Natsu reached to grab more food which slightly bumped the plate it was on. This caused the plate to bump into her glass and tip ever so slightly as she reached for it. It was because of this sudden shift that Mirajane missed the glass partially, causing it to fall. Oh that wasn't fun. Natsu tapped the table with his index finger and Mirajane watched as the glass righted itself once again. The drink inside swished around but didn't spill out.
"That was close!" Natsu said before sheepishly saying, "sorry Mira."
"It's fine Natsu. What… What exactly did you just do?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well I didn't see any of your fire magic or ice magic and your sensory magic would have been useless," Mirajane said, "The glass just stopped and went back."
"Shit," Natsu cursed before sighing, "There are worse people to know I guess. Another one of my magic is a bit out there but I can use Gravity magic. Because you know, why not? I really just kinda picked it up. I used to fight this one dragon, Dridun. After fighting her so many times and getting used to the magic, I just kinda used it one day. Ya know?"
"That's impressive. You know, you're really bad at secrets," Mirajane teased.
"Am not!" Natsu said, "Only around you. Well I almost did slip up around Gray with my Ice dragon magic. It looks so tasty."
"And who taught you that?"
"Twins actually, Eknel and Baknul. Technically one specialized in blizzard magic but I never really picked that one up."
"Why not?"
"I had a hard time learning ice dragon magic. My fire magic made it hard," Natsu shrugged as he took another bite.
"So you're mainly a fire dragon slayer and you're really strong with just that, but how strong are your other magics?"
"Well, I'd say my fire dragon magic is the strongest followed by my demon dragon magic followed by-"
"Demon dragon magic?" Mirajane asked, "Who taught you that?'
"Uh nobody. Technically I created it," Natsu said before shaking his head. He really needed to be more careful, "I'm part Etherious remember? I'm like a human, dragon, book demon thing. Dragon magic fuses with your body and since the demon magic that my brother used to keep me stable was already fused, the two fought it out for a bit before deciding to combine."
"So how did you find out you had it? And book?"
"Uh well I met Zeref and you know how he's cursed?" Natsu asked, Mirajane shook her head, "Oh well he was cursed for trying to bring me back to life-that's what the book is from- and essentially it made him kill anything and everything that he loved and my brother rather loves all life. See, I didn't know about the curse at that point and it ended up attacking me."
"What happened?"
"Since Zeref used the same death magic as the curse to revive me, it simply stirred my demon side and it made me really sick because it began to fuse with my dragon side. It felt like being on a train," Natsu said as he shuddered.
"Wait so where does the book come in?"
"Zeref used the death magic of Ankhseram the Death God and wrote in a magic tome with it as a catalyst to bring me back to life. It took almost all of his magic to do it. Igneel said it nearly killed him."
"So you're also part death god?" Mirajane asked incredulously .
Natsu blinked, "Probably not. It only helped the revival. I'm pretty sure it didn't replace anything or add anything to me."
Mirajane breathed out, "Okay that's a lot."
"Yeah I guess it is," Natsu laughed, "After that is my Ice dragon magic then my gravity dragon magic and sensory magic are tied then there's my creation magic."
"Any more magic I should know about?"
"That'd be telling," Natsu chuckled.
"Okay, you said that about a book too. Why do you need it?"
"Well since I told you about my demon side, I need the book to become whole basically. It's just the tome that my brother used to bring me back."
"Makes sense," Mirajane took another bite, "Well, I think that's about all the information I can handle for the next week."
Natsu laughed and the two engaged in other talk while they both ate. Mirajane ended up going back for thirds and Natsu went for fifths. Mirajane had made sure to make a lot. She ended up finishing the bottle of wine with Natsu. Natsu had just burned it off while Mirajane was a bit tipsy. The light pink blush that dusted her cheeks was rather cute in Natsu's opinion.
Natsu took to cleaning up while Mirajane put a bit of water on the dishes. It didn't take long to get everything clean as Mira began to wash dishes while Natsu cleaned up the table. As soon as that was done, he took to drying and putting everything away. Occasionally, he'd have to ask where a specific dish would go, but he soon got everything down.
"Alright," Natsu said as he lit his hand aflame and dried the last dish, "Cinnamon rolls?"
Mirajane's eyes flashed and she cracked a wide grin, "Absolutely!"
Natsu laughed and walked over focused a bit of magic into the bottom of the container they were in. Mirajane practically drooled as she watched the icing melt a bit. Natsu wasn't doing any better. They both took two and sat down.
"You're terrible, you know that?" Mirajane asked as she lightly punched Natsu's arm. This time, they were sitting next to each other.
"I know!" Natsu chirped as he took a bite out of his pastry.
"Feeding my sweet tooth like this. If you keep this up, I'm going to weigh more than you."
"You know that's not true," Natsu laughed before reaching for Mira's own treat, "though I'll happily eat the rest of yours if you're that worried."
She smacked his hand away and smiled, "I appreciate the concern but it's mine now."
"Yeah? And what if I take it?" Natsu polished off the rest of the cinnamon treat.
"You couldn't stop me from eating this if you tried," Mirajane said, her eyes alight as they playfully teased each other.
"That sounds like a challenge!" Natsu said as he stood up to wash his hands.
"Mmm not really," Mirajane said before finishing off the rest of her own. Like Natsu, she got up to wash her hands. They were delicious but they were sticky too. Mirajane bumped Natsu with her hip again as they stood together at the sink. Natsu passed Mirajane the water as he soaped his hands, and she moved the faucet back towards him for him to finish up while she rubbed her own hands with soap. Natsu withdrew his hands from the water and heated himself up until it became steam and floated away. Mirajane finished washing her own hands and went for a towel but was stopped when Natsu took her hands in his own and dried them with a bit of magic.
Mira smiled at him, "Thanks Natsu. So, we've eaten, had dessert, what now?"
"Whatever you feel like," Natsu shrugged, "What do you like doing in your free time?"
"Reading is really only a one person activity but I do have one of those lacrima they use for big events and stuff," Mirajane said.
"What's that?" Natsu asked curiously.
"Well, it's basically a device that gets signals from different stations and you can watch things with it," Mirajane explained.
"That sounds neat!" Natsu said, "Do you think they have cooking shows?"
"I bet they do, but I figured we'd watch something else."
Natsu's mouth formed an "o", "What did you have in mind?"
"There's an action movie on in a few minutes," Mirajane said as she sat down and turned the screen on, "something about a dragon knight?"
Natsu's eyes widened and he practically bounced up and down, "Can we watch it can we watch it can we watch it please?"
Mirajane laughed, "Sure Natsu."
Natsu grinned happily as he hopped onto the couch next to Mirajane. Mirajane hit a button and Natsu watched as the screen changed to show a dragon and some guy standing in front of it with a blade.
Natsu felt Mirajane shift a bit, almost moving herself into the couch. Natsu instinctively heated himself up a bit and he heard the soft sigh of contentment from Mira. Natsu smiled to himself and settled down to watch the movie. The only time they were talking was when Mirajane had a comment or question about how realistic the dragons portrayed were.
"Well for one, we move a bit more fluidly than that and that dragon is pretty small, even for a hatchling."
"I guess if he was comfortable enough, he could be ridden, but I imagine it wouldn't happen often."
"We absolutely fight other dragons like that!"
"He wouldn't have come even close to killing that dragon on his own. The sword he had would have shattered on its scales."
"There are so many holes in how he can use magic."
"He should absolutely be dead."
"He should be weaker, not stronger now that his mate died."
Natsu poked various holes and answered all of Mira's questions rather easily. There were some things that had been correct which Natsu thought was nice. After a bout of questions, Mirajane's head started drooping ever so slightly. Natsu saw this and nearly sat up. Nearly because Mirajane proceeded to look at him dead in the eyes before flopping into his lap. Huh. Well now he was stuck. Natsu found himself staring, and not for the first time that night.
Mirajane looked up at Natsu as he leaned back a bit and ran a hand through his hair. Even if it was a strange color, it suited him rather well. Natsu sighed happily before slightly stretching his upper body. Mirajane watched appreciatively as he undid another button on his shirt and giggled when he looked down to see her staring up at him.
"What?"
"Nothing," she said as she closed her eyes a bit, "you're warm."
"I'd hope so!" Natsu laughed softly.
"Can you just stay here and keep everything warm?"
"So act like a space heater?" Natsu teased, "I'm sure there are devices for that but since you're asking so nicely."
Mirajane smiled a bit and closed her eyes, "I think I'm just going to stay like this unless you feel like heating my bed."
"Hmm?" Natsu asked, "I can do that."
"Yeah but then it'll get cold again," Mira said gloomily before rolling a bit onto her side, "I'll just stay here tonight."
"Alright," Natsu said as he let himself sink into the couch a bit.
"You smell nice," Mirajane said sleepily.
"Yeah?" Natsu asked, "Glad you think so."
"Know so," Mira snuggled a bit more into Natsu's thighs, "You make a pretty good pillow."
"Glad I'm comfy."
"Yeah, me too. This-" Mirajane yawned before speaking again, "this is pretty nice."
Natsu slumped down a bit and ran a hand through the barmaid's hair. Mirajane found herself to be quite enjoying it and stretched a bit before snuggling into Natsu a bit. Mirajane smiled to herself. She was content with another's company for the first time in a long time.
"Night Mira," Natsu said before using a bit of magic to heat himself up a bit more. He didn't want to get too cold during the night. Plus Mira probably was enjoying it (she was indeed enjoying Natsu's company). Natsu breathed out softly and waited until Mira was asleep before he moved her a bit. He had simply lifted her a bit and moved her so that they could lay down. Natsu found himself lying on the outside of the couch facing in with Mirajane laying between him and the backrest. She was instead facing him and as she was a bit shorter, her head was roughly around his chest.
Natsu closed his eyes and wrapped his arm around the woman in front of him and pulled her a bit closer before he heard the faintest, "Goodnight Natsu."
Pretty not somber huh? Lots of fluff. I think I did well. What do you guys think? More fluff, less fluff, too weird too basic? Talk to me. I really wanted to do some relationship building here by having them interact in a way that one would associate with a couple even though neither of them realize yet. Lul. Anyway, see ya next chapter!
