Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.
Happy Birthday to Hermione! This was a bit rushed (hence why it's short, and kind of why it isn't also smutty), but I had to do something. It is tradition after all.
He appeared like a spirit in the corridor, startling Hermione.
"Fred," she gave a whispered shout as the tall redhead smirked at her. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to give my favorite girl a cupcake," he brought a confection out from behind his back. It was normal sized, not a single bite, but not an enormous monstrosity that looked more like a small cake than the personal sized item people thought of when someone said cupcake. It was rather… normal looking, for something created by a Weasley Twin. The dark red spoke of red velvet and a plain white frosting was likely cream cheese, topped by a single candle.
Hermione's mouth watered.
"You snuck into Hogwarts to bring me a cupcake," she eyed the cupcake warily.
"I did."
"A normal cupcake?"
"Perfectly edible."
"Prove it."
"You mistrusting girl," he grinned, "I've taught you so well."
He took a small bite, then held it out. Hermione crossed and took it.
"The candle is safe to blow out?"
"Perfectly. Make a wish, birthday girl."
Hermione closed her eyes and blew.
"So, what did you wish for?"
"If I told you, it wouldn't come true," she took a bite of the cupcake. Mmm, heaven. No one would believe that Fred Weasley was a master cook and baker. Yet somehow, he was the one who had truly inherited his mother's cooking and potions abilities, despite never showing the former.
"Can I guess?" He asked, eye twinkling.
"I suppose," Hermione agreed. Fred stole the cupcake out of her grasp, just after she took a bite, and held it away. She whined and reached out for the treat.
He kissed her gently, but only fleetingly, a light brush of lips.
"Was that it?"
"No," Hermione shook her head, "Not quite." She tried to steal the cupcake back.
"Hmm, maybe this will do?" Fred asked, holding the cupcake away and pressing his lips a little firmer to hers. But it was still brief.
"You're not very good at this," Hermione bit her lip and calculated how to retrieve the cupcake when she was vertically disadvantaged by the match up.
"Am I not?" He tilted his head. "I suppose I had better up my game then."
This time he kissed her thoroughly, lips demanding against hers, then making her chase him. Hermione forgot about her cupcake and pushed up on her toes to shorten the distance between them.
Several passionate minutes later, Fred let her lips go. Hermione blinked her eyes back open.
"Was that close enough?"
"I suppose," Hermione gave Fred a satisfied smile. "Not entirely complete, but…"
"But we don't have time for that." He proffered the cupcake once more. Hermione took it, leaning against him as she finished the treat and vanished the remainder. Fred toyed with her hair.
"Will you stay around for a while?"
"I can't. I just wanted to make sure I saw you today."
"Harry helped?"
"Yeah," Fred nodded, handing over the Marauder's Map, "Happy Birthday, Hermione."
"Thanks, Fred."
