His shaking breath echoed throughout the room unwilling to believe how far his sister had fallen into madness. Her piercing eyes glared through him unseeing taken over by the spark of madness that now dance like wildfire. Her face was cold showing how hardened she had become in the pursuit for power and her hands grasped tightly on the arms of her thronelike chair. The look alone sent a shiver down Jaime's spine knowing she was too far gone to reason with.

Since the moment his sword cut through the mad kings back he knew this day would come the day he paid for his since. With his family in pieces, his children gone, the country facing a war it could not possible win and the women he once loved having turned into a monster. Jaime despaired, he had failed on every front all that was precious to him destroyed and now with nothing left to live for it was time for him to follow. The imposing presence of the mountain behind him was all too clear as he felt the cold breath of death on the back of his neck.

With one last glance around the empty war room Jaime closed his eyes unwilling for Cersei to be the last thing he sees in this life. Just when he had accepted his fate a flash of blue crossed his mind, materialising into the form of a pair of eyes staring back at him. He didn't need to picture anymore to know who those eyes belonged to, the sapphire blue orbs sparkled as clear as the waters that surround the isle from which their owner was born. From this glimpse, his mind began to fill with memories of the golden-haired knight. How she holds her sword, the face she pulls when carrying out a particularly cleaver move while sparing and most of all her smile. It transformed her usually stern features filling Jaime's heart with pride whenever he was lucky enough to glimpse his sapphire shine. In Brienne the doomed man saw all that was good in the world, against all the evil in Westeros she remained pure. And where was she now? ridding north to fight in a doomed war. He couldn't let her fight alone, he needed to be with her, to for once fight for what's right, together.

It was then that he realised that the cold blow of the Mountain's sword had not come to cut short his life. He dared to open his eyes to see Cersei's conflicted face before him. The Mountain still grasped his sword ready for the order which had yet to come. Jaime seized his opportunity knowing now what he had to live for.

"I don't believe you" He spat towards the shell of the women. Before she had time change her mind he turned on his heels and marched out of the room to ride north towards redemption.
