"McCall, wake up" Merle's irritating voice thunders through the small enclosure of the car. "We're here, look alive"
"Where's here exactly?" Grace asks as she raise my head up off of Liam's shoulder and look out of the window.
"Everville" Merle grunts as he climbs out of the car.
"It's cute" she mumbles in a reply as Liam follows her out of the car, closing the doors behind us. The three of them look around the empty parking lot of the store not seeing a single car in sight. "It's a little weird. There are no cars. There should be cars"
"Maybe everyone left"
"Or maybe. They're all dead and we'll find 'em a little further int' town"
"Merle, how did you ever get by on that Sally Sunshine attitude around all of your drug dealing biker buddies, that have mom tattooed on their bicep?" Grace asks as she walk to the trunk of her car and pop it open. She begins rifling through the bed, pulling things out and throwing them to the others "Okay, backpack, backpack, whip. Walker hand... EW!" she gasps out, holding up the severed bony appendage that looks to belong to an old lady. "Guys why is there a hand in the trunk of my car?"
"It must have gotten in there when we got hit by the horde"
"Obviously... get rid of that for me, will you?" Grace rolls her eyes and throws the hand to Merle who catches it with a look of disgust. Turning back to the trunk, Grace pulls out the last back pack and a storage crate.
"Here, give me that" Liam reaches over and takes the crate from her.
"You really think there's gonna be enough in there to fill all this?" Merle asks squinting his eyes as he looks up at the sign on the building.
"Better to be prepared" Closing the trunk, Grace moves to Liam and takes the baseball bat out of his hand. "Silent weapons only Merle" she glares at the man as she passes him and makes her way to the entrance of the store. The Automatic doors are locked, probably from when the electricity was cut off. The brightness of the Georgia sun makes it had to see through the closed windows and with the fact that there are posters covering the top half it makes it a lot harder to see inside.
"Anything?" Liam asks as Grace crouches low to see if it is possible to get a better view from lower down.
"It's better, but it's still very dark inside. Can you hear anything?" Grace asks looking up at Liam who stands at the side of the other side of the doors.
"I'll you two hurry up" Merle growls as he stands on guard for any walkers.
"nothing" Liam nods after listening intensely.
"Nothing, not even a shuffle?" she questions
"Nothing"
"Okay, help me pry these open" Grace stands up and place the bat and bag on the ground. Liam follows the action dropping the things in his arms down and moving to join his mate.
"Can't we just smash the doors open?" Liam asks as he stands across from her.
"No, too much noise. We need to do this quietly" Grace stresses again
"Okay" Liam agrees easily and pulls at one door as Grace takes the other. It takes a few seconds but the latches brake inside and the doors slide open.
"Merle, let's go" Grace directs, stepping back and picking up the bat and backpack. They move forward in sync all on high alert just in case. It's dark inside beyond the main entrance. But the stench hits them like a freight train "what the hell is that?" Grace asks, her nose scrunching up at the rotten smell.
"walkers?" Merle asks as they hesitantly walk forward "Maybe the town stuck all their dead in here"
"It doesn't smell like rotten flesh" Grace advances with Liam and Merle on her tail.
"Princess, can ya light this place up without burnin' the buildin' down on us?" Merle ask, his eyes scanning every inch of the blackened room.
"You insult my abilities with your scepticism" she smiles, adjusting the green cap on her head and handing her bat over to Merle on her right. Holding her hands out to the side, flames flutter to life in each palm burning bright and illuminating the three. Pushing her hands out, streams of fire spread out and cover the room. In seconds, buzzing begins as flies begin swarming the old vegetation left on the shelves.
"That explains the smell" Liam turns his nose up at the sight of all the bugs.
The three stand and watch as the flies follow the strips of fire, attracted to the new burst of light.
"Let's move quickly"
"Yeah" Grace agrees with Merle. "The fact that this place is so clean, you know besides all the rotten shit, gives me the creeps" she continues as she looks around at the low stocked shelves. The place hasn't been scavenged... it's more like the staff had closed before the world went to hell and no one had restocked the shelves beforehand.
The all move forward and split off between the isles. They dump as much as they can into their backpacks before Grace moves on with then crate and heads to the hygiene isle as Liam and Merle break into the pharmacy to get the heavy-duty meds.
With the crate dangling by her fingers she heads straight to the toothpaste and mouth wash, filling the bottom and side. She moves down the aisle to the vitamins gathering as many as she can, stacking them neatly before moving on. She turns to the left and spots something and a smile stretches on her face, a tray of toothbrushes. Not like those boring adult ones the Marvel and DC kids' kind. Laughing, Grace pulls out a superman one and throws it in the crate on the floor before searching through the rest and finding a Batman, Spiderman, Wonder-woman, Hulk and Ironman.
"Princess, ya' done?"
"Just about" Grace glances over her shoulder to the two standing at the end of the aisle. Her eyes flash down on two piles of crates stacked three high each. "Where exactly are you two planning on putting all of that?"
"Back seat" Liam shrugs like it is obvious, making Grace roll her eyes.
"what else is there t' get?" Merle grumbles as Grace stands up from her crouch and kicks the crate over to the other side of the aisle before following it and grabbing a can of the shelf in front of her and throwing it to Merle
"Deodorant, you stink" Grace smirks as Merle huffs but pockets the can. Grace turns back to the shelves and continues packing the sprays for both the males and females of the camp.
"Is all this really necessary?" Liam questions, looking down at the filling crate.
"Men disgust me" Grace crinkles her nose at her mate and dumps a packet of soap bars into the box without any emotion on her face, keeping eye contact with Liam the whole time. "Okay" Grace finishes, crouching down and wedging her bat between a few items sticking out of the top so it doesn't roll away. She stands back up with everything gathered in her hands and looks between the two "Let's go" She pushes past them and makes her way to the exit, silently laughing at the sound of the two men struggling behind her.
Stepping back out into the natural daylight, the three are temporarily blinded by the difference from the smooth embers of phoenix fire to the blazing sun rays. Grace looks around at the empty parking lot no cars except Grace's own. A creepy chill runs down her spine making her visibly shiver.
"It's disturbing, right?" Liam asks stepping up beside her, his body turned slightly so he can get a proper look around the towering crates in his arms.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah there ain't any assholes crowding the roads"
"What about the walkers?" Grace looks over to the Redneck on her other side.
"Like 'em betta' th'n the livin'" Merle releases a humourless laugh and walks away from the two and over to the car.
Liam and Grace watching the man walk away, shrugging to each other and following after him, ignoring the man's comment about his blatant disregard for human life. By the time they make it to the car, Merle is already there and packing his crates in the back seat. Liam copies, as Merle moves to the trunk and opens it for Grace and takes the Crate from her hands. Waiting for her to take the bat from him, he then pushes the box far back as possible, allowing them space for the overflowing backpacks.
"Let's get out of here" Liam stresses after dumping his bag in the car and closing the top. Grace hands over the keys and heads to the passenger seat as Merle once again climbs into the backseat. Opening the door, Grace glances around the area, her eyes landing on an advertising banner. "Grace?" Liam asks leaning over the middle console and looking up to the blonde still outside.
"Let's head further up the road" She replies, sliding inside and pointing the same way as the arrow on the sign.
Not questioning the girls' motive, Liam starts the car and follows the direction. The streets are empty. No walkers. No cars crashed or stopped in the middle of the streets. The three wouldn't be surprised if a tumbleweed passed by.
"It's like the entire town has just vanished" Grace comments as she watches everything pass by. "Maybe they all got somewhere safe, you know. Before the dead could get to them."
"Like a school, or somewhere protected"
"Or maybe they're all dead an' just waiting for us breathers stroll in and snack on us"
"You're like a butterfly in that fly swarm back there" Liam scoffs as he turns the corner and drives further up the road to a small block of businesses.
"Pull over on the right here" Grace instructs and waits for Liam to do so without question. Her door is open before the car has come to a stop. It's still rolling as her foot touches the curb and her boot slides along the stone. In her excited hype, her car door is closed before the other two have even opened theirs.
"G? What are we doing here?" Liam asks looking at the stretch of stores. A dry cleaner, a bank, second hand store, toy store and a tattoo parlour. He looks around the street but doesn't fall on her thought.
"We robbin' a bank?" Merle comes around the car to stand next to Grace as Liam stays standing leaning on the hood with one foot still inside the vehicle.
"what use would a money be these days? It's probably more useful burning it to make a fire now. No" She rolls her eyes and turns on her heals making her way to the store front
"You can't be serious?" Liam closes the car door and follows after the two to the tattoo parlour. "You want a tattoo?"
"yeah, why not?" Grace questions skipping to the store front door and pulling on the handle that doesn't open. "Why is everything locked?" Grace huffs, placing her hand on the key hole and melting the catch. Pulling once again the door opens easily, with a bell jingling above.
The three steps inside, the door closing behind them as they look around at the slightly dusty counters. Grace moves around the counter pulling up a file of different sketches as Liam looks at all the photos are past tattoos.
"Merle, you know everything we need for tattoos, right?" Grace looks to the man who has decided to take a nap on one of the benches.
"Sure, but I can't draw for shit" Merle laughs, his eyes closed and his feet tapping.
"I'm sure you can copy a few lines" Grace smiles as she runs her fingers over one of the drawings of classic skull and a rose.
"What are you thinking?" Liam asks, still looking around at the photos
"I wanna learn, you ever tattooed anyone?" She looks back to Merle who has turned his gaze to her.
"Once"
"How'd it look?" Liam questions, turning his attention from the wall and onto Merle
"Like someone ran over the neighbour's cat" Grace and Liam share a look, the look speaks the same.
"It wasn't supposed to though, right?" Grace asks hesitantly
"no" Merle huffs getting up from the bad and grabbing things off of the shelves and things from the cupboards.
"What was it supposed to look like?" Liam asks; however, Merle ignores the question with a huff. Embarrassed.
"Bag this" Merle speaks up, throwing equipment on the bench he was lying on.
Expelling a gust of air, Grace picks up a case from one of the cabinets and places it on the bench next to all of the parts. With the help of Liam, the two box everything placed before them and close and lock the box once it's completely filled.
"We done?" Liam questions, looking out of the glass wall window at the front of the store. He turns back to the two as Merle gathers the case and heads to the front door, slamming it open with no care what so ever, as if the apocalypse doesn't happen.
"The man knows how to make an exit" Grace smiles as she shakes her head.
"Maybe we should go after him, I mean the man isn't exactly quiet and this town is unnaturally silent" Liam offers swinging his hand out and gesturing to the doorway.
"Yeah, let's go. I wanna check out further into town" Grace moves past Liam, grabbing his hand and lacing their fingers together and dragging him with her. Walking together, Liam lifts their hands and places a kiss on the back of Grace's as they make their way to the car.
"Well while y' two where making googly eyes at each otha' I checked the other buildings, they're all locked"
"Maybe the work day hadn't started when they all found out about the virus and got some where safe" Liam suggests.
"Everyone, all at once?"
"So what? You actually want to go into town?" Liam asks as the two let go of each other's hands and make their way to different sides of the car.
"Keys" Grace holds up her hand to Liam as she stands in the open door of the car. Liam fishes the keys out of his jacket pocket and tosses them over to her.
"You sure about this McCall?" Merle asks standing behind her.
"I'm curious" She shrugs back at him, pulling the driver's side door open and looking back at the others. "Look, if you two want to stay here, I can just fly over, take a look around and be right back, it won't take that long"
"No, we shouldn't split up, we go together" Liam replies, opening the passenger's side door and slipping inside of the car as Grace turns to Merle.
"Y' gonna get me killed princess" Merle huffs and climbs into the back seat of the car as Grace just smiles at him.
She takes one look around at the quite clean street then joins the others in the car.
"We still going?" Liam questions as he shifts around in his seat to get comfier.
"Yeah, we're going" Grace pulls away and looks back at Liam, taking one hand off the wheel and slapping her mate's thigh. "Feet off of my dash" she glares over
"It's the apocalypse" Liam retorts
"not in this car it isn't, feet off the dash" Grace repeats in a more forceful tone.
Liam listens without a word, sliding his dirty booted feet from their spot and thumps them onto the car floor with than expel of air.
"Without the attitude" Grace mumbles, her whispered words loud in the silent vehicle.
The car ride continues for another 10 minutes as Grace follows the road signs directing to the town centre. A soft whistle emits from the back seat and it takes Grace a few seconds to recognise the song and she rolls her eyes and smiles whilst beginning to whistle along with him. Turning the corner, the tone dies out and the silence becomes deafening in an eerie second at the sight in front of them.
A town fair.
Pulling the car into a stop in the middle of the road, 30ft from the beginning of the stalls, Grace turns of the ignition and the three just sit and look at the destruction. Deciding on having a look around, she pulls out the keys, pockets them in the front of her shorts then opens the door, taking her seatbelt off and stepping out and closing the door. She waits a few second, taking a few steps from the car and just staring at the sight before her as she waits for Liam and Merle to get out.
A tap on her bandaged thigh has her turning to the side to see Merle holding out her baseball bat to her. Taking the dead killing weapon she lays it over her right shoulder and looks forward. The sight is nothing like the grocery store or tattoo shop. Stalls have been knocked over with Items that were once placed neatly on top has now been forced to the floor. Jars of jams, sauces and now unidentifiable products smashed across the ground with the liquids stained across the tarmac.
Fruits and vegetables had rotted, much like in the store. The only other thing similar was the lack of bodies, however the amount of blood that was splattered, pooled and sprayed around the entire place suggested that the happy day the people of Everville had once been have had quickly turned into a day of carnage. Although oddly enough there are no dead bodies, no bodies of people that had been put down from their cannibalistic stage. The place was just empty.
"You hear anything?" Grace asks over to Liam as she pushes aside a crate of spoiled tomatoes, at least that's what she assumed that's what they were.
"Nothing" Liam confirms, looking around and listening to the noises in the area. "not even an animal"
"Where is everyone?" Grace questions, turning on the spot with her baseball bat still laying on her shoulders and her whip at her side.
"Dead" Merle dead pans, walking away and over to the closest stall on the right as Grace and Liam continue forward. The sound of a bang behind them has the two spinning with unnatural speed, their attention is drawn to the redneck to see that he has jumped up onto one of the roofless stalls with a crowbar that he had obviously found seconds before hand. The weak looking stall is oddly very sturdy as it stands perfectly still under Merles weight.
Liam and Grace watch with slight amusement as Merle uses the tool as a golf club and swings it against a jar of orange tinged liquid that had started to split. If it wasn't for the big black and white sign the identified the jars as Milk.
The jar doesn't smash as the metal bar connects with the glass. They all stand silently and watch as it sails through the air and slams against a flying car carnival ride. The glass smashes and splatters the chunky substance everywhere. The two supernatural teens turn their noses up at the sight but let out little chuckles as Merle lets out a whoop of joy.
Liam is the only one that cringes when a soft breeze of wind carry's the bitter scent towards them and hits his nose.
"Hey is this really a good idea?" Grace questions holding her hand out in a halt to stop the man from continuing.
"It's good t' blow of sum steam" Merle shrugs and bats at another jar, this one smashes on impact of the make-shift gold club, splaying the spoiled contents everywhere in front of them.
The two supernaturals look to each other and with twin shrugs and smiles, they join Merle in the fun. Splitting up, Liam begins kicking over boxes and crates, smashing them apart with forceful kicks. Smiling at the two boys', because yes Merle is a man child, Grace slides the bat from her shoulder and drags it along the ground, walking deeper into the chaos. Grace heads over to the bottle ring toss stand where stuffed toys still hang all over, albeit a few have dried blood sprayed across them.
Jumping on the counter top, Grace bats at the basket of plastic rings sending the palm sized hoops everywhere. Grabbing a stuffed toy off a clip Grace throws it in front of her and swings. Smiling in satisfaction as one by one, they sail through the sky, all landing in different directions around the street. It gets to the point were the only toy left is a fluffy grey wolf, its form in a laying position with big black eyes ringed with a swirl of bright Amber.
She pauses and smile brighter than ever before. Thoughts of the past flashing through her mind. Then a flash of Lori passes through her mind and that little baby nestled in her womb, growing. Giving them all hope for the future. A crash shocks her out of her daze and her head snaps to the left where Merle was last smashing milk and now just happens to be taking his anger out on the windows of a pick-up truck.
With a shake of her head, shew hops off of the bench top and places her bat and the wolf off to the side for safe keeping to gift it to the soon to be new little resident in the world. Snaking out her whip from the empty belt loop of her shorts, she steps back and cracks it once, the loud noise vibrating through the air like a gunshot as it snaps out. Righting herself she flicks it again, this time towards the game stall. Glass bottles shatter in an explosion. This happens 4 more times until everything but the plush wolf and the stand are the only things unharmed.
The crashing of a window vibrates from nearby and Grace looks over to where Liam and Merle had obviously been throwing bricks at the building with Grins on their faces, laughing to each other and not paying attention to anything but their emotions.
It starts with one. A little girl, seven maybe, in a pink summer dress and white tennis shoes. Her blond locks are ties at each side of her head in pigtails. She stumbles through the hole made by a brick, a clear chunk torn from her forearm. In the next second, the blacked-out window shatters, collapsing in a wave as what seems like the whole town stumbles out with vicious growls.
The laughing stops as the two finally notice as the dead once again descend upon the living. Their luck seriously sucked.
"G!" Liam screams unnecessarily as the girl is already running towards them as they back away from the dead stumbling towards them.
Grace skids to a stop 10ft from the dead and takes steps back as several notice her and brake off from the growing horde that blocks her from the other two. Grace pulls her hand to the side as a male walker get closer. She hesitates as she realises that there is nothing in her hand but her whip.
"McCall move!" Merle yells over the growls as the horde splits up, half after Grace and the rest after themselves.
"Get to the car" Grace yells as she turns on the spot and runs back to the bottle toss stand. Ignoring the dead behind her she snakes her whip back through her shorts as she runs. Her eyes lock on the plush wolf laying on top of her bat. The dead don't tire and Grace doesn't have the option to stop as she rushes to her weapon. She holds out her hands as she's gets with 10ft within the stand, as her hands grasp the objects, she throws herself over the bench and into the back of the stall, the smashed glass on the floor grates and crunches under her booted feet as she grasps the wolf in one hand and the bat in the other, keeping a tight hold on both, she swings out the metal weapon, connecting it against the head of a female walker that had reached out to her as they pile around the front.
"Let's go into town... I'm curious" Merle drawls in a mock as he runs behind Liam on their way to the car. He chances a look back over his shoulder and manages so spot Grace running back in the opposite direction. Then she disappears over into the front of the stall and Merle loses sight. Fury rages inside him at the girl's stupidity but pushes it aside as he continues to the car.
Liam moves to the passenger side as Merle slides into the driver's seat. His hand snaps to start the ignition but it ghosts over empty space.
"Where's the fucking keys?" He growls in frustration.
"Grace has them" Liam pales as he looks at the walkers that have now reached the car, their hands banging against the outside blocking the two's sight from everything but the decayed dead.
"FUCK!" Merle slams his hand on the wheel, the horn emitting a sharp blare. Ignoring the dead, Merle ducks down and tears at the fabric under the wheel "You know where she is?" he questions as he begins fiddling blindly with the wires.
"No, I can't" He panics as her lifts himself out of the seat and tries to get a look through the walkers. "I can't see anything. They're too loud" He growls out his eyes flashing their bright gold.
Hearing the panic in the teens voice he looks turns his head and glares. "Hey, hey. Panicking isn't gonna do shit. And she ain't gonna be happy if we both tear at her car" He reasons as Liam continues to shift. The car rumbles, coming to life the noise teasing the dead and they become more agitated. "How does she feel?" Merle asks as he tries to push the car forward.
"What?"
"You too feel each other, right? So... is she hurt, scared, having the time of her fucking life?"
"She's... frustrated, annoyed" he growls out
"She hurt?"
"No"
"Then chill the fuck out. She can protect herself. She ain't weak, you know it. I know it, heck she knows it".
"GO!" A female's voice shrieks from far away, the words drowned in the sound of the supernatural creature's call laced around it. A bright orange glow raises in the distance after seeing the light holding in place, the clear view of the tips of two flamed wings standing tall and on point.
Listening to orders, Merle doesn't hesitate as he back the car up, knocking down two walkers and driving over them, creating distance so that with the new found space, the two catch a clear view of the teenage girl with large flame wisped chocolate wings running up the front hood of a car and onto the roof, launching into the air, narrowly missing the grabby walkers.
Merle turns the car with a loud squeal as the rubber of the tires burn against the road, sliding around and slamming to a stop before shooting forward in a rush to get out of the now damned town. A few minutes into the drive soft thuds hit the roof of the car and Merle eases on the gas, slowing into a smooth drive. The two in the car chance a look to each other but Merles eyes slide from Liam's face to outside the window beside the teen.
"What the hell is this shit?" He asks in annoyance at the sight of a stuffed toy staring straight at him with big beady eyes.
With confused amusement Liam rolls the window down and takes the wolf out of the girls hand, throwing in into the back seat before turning back only to come face to face with a bloody bat. It takes seconds for Liam to pull the packet of wipes out of the glove compartment, take the bat from Grace, wipe it clean then throw the object behind him to join the toy as the wipe flows out of the window flying to the ground like a feather in the wind.
"Did you hotwire my car?" Grace fumes as she lays on her stomach on the roof, her head hanging off the side upside down to look at the two.
"NO! Y' DON'T GETTA SPEAK!" Merle roars, his eye now locked on the road ahead as he keeps his eyes from glancing at the girl with blood splattered all over her face. "Y' don't get t' make plans anymore!" he continues "The fuck, y' went back for a fucking toy"
"I went back for my bat. I left both of them"
Merle lets out a very audible growl, one that could rival one of Liam's before reaching to the side and pressing a button, the window on Liam's side slides up slowly much to the girls' dismay.
"What are you doing?" Liam asks as he tries to open the window again for his mate with a button of his own but Merle closes it again.
"Punishment" He huffs, reaching down and pressing another button on the door locking them all. A muffled "Hey!" comes from somewhere outside near the door behind the driver's seat as the door handle snaps back into place, staying closed.
"You do know she's probably loving it up there by now, right?" Liam smiles as he listens to his mate shift around on the car roof before settling still.
He was right. Above them, Grace had become annoyed with the uncomfortable pain of her car keys digging into the top of her thigh in the front pocket of her shorts. Shirts into sitting with her legs crossed, Grace relaxes as the air pushes past her face blowing the hair back in blond waves as they pass by a mass of woods on each side of the road, finally out of the town thanks to the speed in which Merle drives.
They must have been gone longer than they through because as they finally turn onto the road leading to the Greene farm the sun has dropped low in the sky giving it a warm pink and orange glow. They drive for five more minutes, with Grace hopping off of the roof to open and close the gate on the road. Merle keeps the car stopped just up ahead, with the door to the back seat open in a silent invitation to join them inside. With a smile on her face and a skip in her step, she makes her way over to them settling in the back cushioned seat with a sigh.
"Y' know the back of ya shirt is completely destroyed"
"Yeah, my wings tore through it" Grace reaches around and fiddles with the torn fabric.
"Isn't that your favourite top too?" Liam looks back at her as they continue the drive up to the house.
Realising the damage done, Grace looks down to the front of her shirt to see the once bright white printed Star Wars logo splattered with blood amongst the black background. A loud profanity that could rival Merles redneck slurs escapes her lips without her realising, leaving the two upfront silent in shock. The silence soon passes as Liam takes a look over to the smirking driver.
"She spends way too much time in your company"
"Don't I know it. Bits like a damn fly, she won't just piss off"
"You love me!" Grace pops her head through the gap between the front seats. Smiling brightly with her blond hair tumbling down towards the ground matted with blood and flesh.
"shut it" Merle snarls, taking his hand off of the wheel and pushing her head back, her face smushed in the palm of his hand. "Y' grounded"
"You can't do that! Can he do that?" Grace asks her mate, turning her head and flicking flesh on her lap. All Liam does is turn his head to the side with a slight smirk on his lips as Grace falls back into the seat with her arms crossed over her chest.
Merle pulls the car to a stop next to the one Rick and Shane had taken out this morning to abandon Randall, so obviously they were back. Peeking her head back through the space, she watches as everyone, bar Beth and Hershel surround the front of the house all joining together to greet the three back with smiles. Exiting the car with a smile, Grace leaves the door open so the others can begin emptying the insides as the continue gawking at the amount of supplies brought back.
"There's more in the trunk" Liam informs them as he moves and opens up the car for them.
Grace's eyebrows furrow as Rick jogs over from the house with bruises and scrapes all over his face. Knowing that he was with Shane today she looks over to the man standing further away with Andrea, his face marred with similar marks. Turning her attention back to Rick she recognises the look in his eyes as a concerned parent, her heart warms slightly at the sight.
Ricks eyes take in the image of the teen, his eyes roaming all over her with a look that quickly turns into horror at the amount of blood covering her skin and clothes. Her left leg is completely bathed in blood, as if she walked through a river on one foot. He switches his gaze to Liam and then Merle, taking notice of how little blood the two have compared to Grace's costume for A Carrie White look- a-like competition.
"What happened?" Glenn calls from his spot next to Maggie and Liam by the trunk of the car.
"we ran into two hordes, one on the road and one in Everville" Liam replies as he continues unloading the trunk and passing things off to people
"You serious?" Shane growls, storming over with a hard look on his face. "Y'v probably lead 'em all here"
"We took most of them out and went done so many streets, I probably couldn't tell you the exact way we went" Grace glares right back.
"How bad was the town?" Asks Ethan as he and Jackson help the others carry the items from the trunk.
"We kind of broke it" Grace beams as everyone gains confused looks so she continues "They must have been having a town fair when everything went to shit because the was a lot of walkers locked in one building. It had blackout windows. Some must have been bitten. We only just made it out of that town alive" Grace fabricates the truth slightly.
"How'd they get out?" Andrea questions, her tone snippy and bitter.
With an eye roll at the older blond, Grace answers in more half-truths. "They must have seen us as we walked past, they were so silent, none of us heard anything until the force of them pushing against the window must have been too much and the whole thing collapsed"
"With how many there was, we're lucky we made it out alive. Especially her" Merle drawls, jerking his chin to Grace who rolls her eyes.
"Does it explain how the back of her shirt is torn apart?"
"A walker grabbed me, tore the top apart as I pulled away" Grace answers the blond female again with a lie.
"How'd you get away from the horde?" Glenn challenges, seeing straight through the teens excuse.
"Jumped over a carnival stall, slipped through a side door and ran like hellhounds where on my heal. It almost felt like I was flying"
"You just keep getting into trouble, don't you?" Rick smiles as he turns to watch as everyone begins to walk away with the car's contents. All satisfied with the story.
"What's life without a little life-threatening moment" she smiles up at him but notices his gaze is on her blood-soaked leg. "When I slipped through the door in the stall, a walker was in front me and I couldn't bat it down so I tried to push it way with the tip of my bat, only I didn't notice its stomach and been torn open and my bat just slipped in so I had to kick it away, when my bat slid out so did a shit load of blood and guts, it was like someone popped a balloon with a pin.
"That's disgusting" Rick turns his nose up at the image playing in his head "You gonna tell me want really happened with the rest of it?"
"You first" she indicates to the damage to his face. "Noticed Shane and some markings of his own. I take it dropping Randall off didn't go quite as planned"
"Randall knows Maggie"
"Shit, so he probably knows the farm. Meaning if he came across his old group. He'd lead them straight here"
"It's possible"
"I take it Officer Hot Head didn't take to well to the new information"
"Not exactly"
"Randall back to being a prisoner?" Grace asks looking to Rick with her arms crossed over her chest. "What we gonna do, blindfold him and take him into the middle of the woods with a tooth pick"
"Nar, we ain't got any left" Rick jokes
"Check the boxes, we got a lot of shit"
"I talked to Shane 'bout Lori, the baby"
"Hopefully he hasn't fallen too far"
"Hopefully" Rick smiles back, pushing his shoulder into Grace's as the two moves to close all of the doors. "Did Merle hot wire your car?"
"oh yeah, and he's fixing it to" Grace replies as she crawls out from the back seat, pulling a wolf out with her and holding it up in front of Ricks face as he takes notice.
"Getting a little old for toy's, aren't I?"
"It's for the baby" Grace huffs as she drops her arms and starts playing with its ears, being careful not to get any walker blood on it. "I couldn't find anything close to a phoenix and every kid needs toys. Wolves are the next best thing. It can be like her guardian or something, I don't know" Grace shrugs as she hands the toy over.
"It's perfect, thank you." Rick takes it and smiles down at the grey animal as Grace walks away. One of his words flashing through his mind.
"HER?"
Grace just smiles and continues walking.
